Does anyone know when we will receive the next Android security patch?
I hoped a HTC phone - just a year old would've been better supported. It seems odd that the last one was back in December last year...
Anyone?
MMB.

Only HTC knows. One of the downsides of owning a non-Nexus device is that the manufacturer is under no obligation to follow Google's schedule.
....and because of the customizations added to Android, it takes even longer to issue updates.
Vodafone released 1st of july 2016 the patch for 1 june 2016 (equal to the HTC 10).
It is version 3.50.710.1.
Guess that for WWE it will be 3.50.401.1.

The update seems still confirmed for the Q2 (April, May, June)
So now we are on june..Why don't bet on the release DAY?
UMAD!1!1
last weekend of june is my guess - 26th
if I remember the Froyo it was on a sunday that it started flooding out, and that's probably the last point of Q2 that they have left.
FroYo for the Desire came out in August last year as I was in the US when it was released so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see 2.3 until then

when did Froyo come out for nexus one though in comparison?
Google says June 2010 but can't find an exact date. Baring in mind the Nexus One/Desire were flagship devices back then it was obvious they'd get the update first. This time the delay might be longer so I reckon Q3 2011
Desire got 2.2 same time as EVO 4G. Evo just got 2.3 -> Desire 10th...

Unbranded Desires will, most likely, get the update before the end of June. Branded Desires won't probably get the update until 2-3 months later. For the 2.2 update, while most phones got the update by August 2010, my Telstra phone didn't get it until November 2010.
Hi guys !
Only one question for now :
My Desire has been rooted and last clockwork recovery installed but when gingerbread ota update will be received, will my phone accept the update even if it is rooted ?
Can't it be "bricked" after that ?
Thanx a lot for sharing your knowledge !

thumb up for pool heh I say somewhere around 30.6
Don't install any ota when rooted as a general rule

I think HTC released Gingerbread in Q3. It is june and HTC can not hear anything from him
Why lot of people are voting for 30 june? Do you mean htc will not release it for this month or that they will wait the last day of the Q2 as they promised?

How the security patches are deployed is up to the OEM. I don't know if its so much that HTC doesn't care; its probably more that they don't have the resources. But comparing HTC (which is having a very tough time financially) to the largest smartphone maker in the world is a bit unfair. Even so, Samsung definitely does not send out monthly security patches for all their devices. Maybe their most popular ones (if even that).
Quote from this article:
We thought that was going to happen when people like Samsung and LG promised monthly updates, but instead we got a few updates on specific versions of a small handful of models. And a bunch of broken promises.
I can personally attest to the Samsung Tab Pro 8.4, which didn't sell too well, and was quickly abandoned and ignored by Samsung. It maybe got 1 or 2 patches early on, then nothing.
Folks seem to be freaking out about the new QuadRooter vulnerability as much as they did StageFright. And HTC rolled out the StageFright fix fairly quickly. So unless HTC is done with the M8 updates (and they might be); we may see a QuadRooter fix fairly soon.

Tnx for your help
What's the deal with HTC. Why haven't they released Nougat yet?
Seriously?
Once they do release it there will be nothing but complaining just like every other new version.
Relax it will get here when it gets here.
Given that the Sprint exclusive Bolt is coming out with Nougat, I would bet that it is just around the corner for the HTC 10 as well.
However, I really hope for a stable update, rather than a rushed one, full of issues.
only Name exclusive, but yea, htc 10 nougat build is really near
They said Q4 2016... so until 31 December 2016 23:59 they are on time.
I really hope they put in the ability to change what's in the quick settings within the notification tray. There are a good amount of them that I don't use.
nougat update let you change the quick settigns toggle
Hmm even mediatek devices gotten Android 7.0 earlier that HTC 10 like oukitel devices
I really hope the update brings much better camera performance and soon, I'm really disapointed with it. But isn't the rumor saying late November beginning of December?
In Nougatland where kitkats are delicious and you can lick lollipops.

HTC just posted on their Facebook that US Unlocked will start receiving Nougat tomorrow Friday. Carrier varriants of HTC 10 and M9 owners will see the update early next year.

I'm downloading the new firmware as we speak. All 1.11gb of it!
I just want to know that how the security patches are released to the manufacturers, is it directly rolled out by Google? Does manufacturers (Nokia) modify the code according to the hardware and release it after that? I am on Oreo 8.1 May 1 patch and since this may patch there is a minor issues with the range of the WiFi and bluetooth. The range has drastically reduced. While the other connected device is well in range, my Nokia would fall short on the coverage and signal will lower. So who's at fault is it google or Nokia?
the update is launched by Nokia, but since Nokia uses almost pure Android, it is not much that the firmware must be modified. that's why the update is almost instantaneous when Google launches it.

Did any one revive the update?
i am in the MENA region and its 3rd of may and still no June patch
Waiting for the june update, hope the bugs will be squashed out in this next update, really love Nokia but these bugs are making people disappointed. Google should go through the check up process very carefully before the release as not only these devices as well as nexus devices are also affected resulting in different issue.

You mean 3rd June, not May?
You can't get the patch on 3rd when it is not released even for Pixel devices, Google releases it in about 6th for Pixels. Last month I got an update (for my Nokia 6.1) in the middle of the month, about 16th, what is I think totally normal.

Oh ya i meant 3rd of June , OK then waiting for it thanks a lot for clarifying this :good:
Many of us have some personal and confidential info stored on our phones. Timely security updates are critical.
That said, has anyone gotten a security update for this phone? I haven't gotten one since I purchased it on the day it was released. I'm still on the August 1st 2020 security patch. I thought Motorola issue security patches every 2 months. I reached out to them on this but the person that I communicated with had no idea on when a security patch would be available for this phone.
I love the form factor of this phone but I think outdated security patches pose a huge risk.
I'm on se the September security update

Did you get a security update or did it come with the September security patch when you bought the phone?
Motorola also told me that the August security patch was the most up-to-date. Go figure.
To be honest, I'm not sure if there was an update when I started using the phone, or if it came that way. The phone is less than two weeks old.
No problem. Thanks for the update. I got my phone on October 2nd with the August security patch on it. No updates from Motorola since.

Did you receive any update, yet? Mine came with the August patch, and an update was available as soon as I got the basic settings dialed in. I'm on the September patch now, which is still pretty dated in comparison to my OP8Pro. No further updates, or news, as of now.
Nothing yet. Still waiting. I check almost daily.
you should have the october security update. The Retail US channel got that late in mid november (me on the 17th). I purchased directly from motorola and use t-mobile sim.
motorola does quarterly security updates it seems and when you get the update it'll be a month old.
Nothing yet. I wonder if T-Mobile is the holdup. I bought the phone from T-Mobile on release date. Perhaps Motorola released the update to T-Mobile but T-Mobile has not sent the update to my phone yet?
Motorola also said this phone will get the Android 11 update. If it's dependent upon T-mobile and if T-Mobile is the reason for the security patch delays, I'm not hopeful.
when you go to 'about phone' in settings, under 'software channel' does it say 'retail us' or something else?
If so, You could try this method:
turn the phone off, remove the sim. Connect to wifi and check for the update then.
In 'about phone' in settings, under 'software channel' it says "T-Mobile".
yea...you have to yell at t-mobile then. they're in control of your updates.
edit:
you could try and use the motorola firmware flashing tool to flash https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/smith/official/TMO/
if yours is a lower version than that (you can verify in the about phone page under firmware version)
But firmware flashing that way vs ota usually means wiping the phone when it's being done.
Finally, I got an update today...
it looks like t-mobile just pushed that firmware out (if you go by the time stamp on the link i posted). So the phone is not delayed in seeing updates, t-mobile is just super slow at pushing them out.
though, they could have a different offset for their quarterly security updates than motorolla, as they're not much slower than motorolla (2 months vs 1.5 months). Considering you got November 1st's patch at the end of december and I got october 1st's patch in mid november.
I expect the next update we see for this device will be sometime in late february. Probably not going to see the OS update until mid next year.
Yep. I finally got it yesterday.
Wow. I went from zero updates in almost 3 months to two updates in just over 3 weeks. I was on the August security patch all the way until December 28th when I finally got the October security patch. Now, just a little over 3 weeks later, I got the December security patch today...
I feel a lot better about the phone now.
