Devices will be shipping this week and some lucky people have one already. So if you have an HTC 10, please give us your first impressions and thoughts about the device. Tell us about the display, camera, battery life, audio, build quality or whatever else comes to mind. If you've had any problems, we'd also like to know about that too. Unboxing pics are encouraged
Let's avoid lengthy discussions about particular topics here and leave them to their dedicated threads, ie for camera, battery, audio, etc.
Also, discussion about published reviews should go here.
So, who will go first?
I ran out of RAM! All 4GB filled.

I was just listening to some music, downloading stuff via Chrome. Download a Video via DsFile, downloading GFX bench GL dataset.
And while switching between these apps and reading on XDA I realised that my downloads would be interrupted because the app got sent into cache....
If the onePlus 3 has 6gb RAM I might consider selling my 10.
Edit: might be due to Boost+ SmartBoost feature....
Deactivated it now. Let's see how it goes.
The more the phone utilizes the RAM the better.. I'm glad to see it's literally guzzling it to keep apps in RAM, faster multitasking you know.
HTC probably utilizing zram as well, can anyone confirm that?
How is call quality and loudness?
Alright guys & gals, Verizon is already shipping the 10 and HTC pre-orders for the US are going out tomorrow. I really want to hear from you what you think of it when you get yours

Got my vz 10 this afternoon. Usual bloat. Phone is heavy, camera lags. I think my 5x is faster and my s7 takes way better pics. Not seeing it worth the money so I am returning it.

I'm using an unlocked white/silver UK model on Tmobile network at the moment, and it works beautifully. Figured it'd work since prior I used an unlocked Compact Z3 that supported pretty much the same bands. I'm loving this phone. The responsiveness of the screen is probably one of the most underrated features that I love. On prior phones, especially my Z3 compact and sometimes my LG G3, the phones felt like they didn't always want to register my touches, but this is an entirely different story with this phone. In terms of screen brightness, I actually think it's pretty bright. I'm in California with clear whether and lots of sun, and I'm able to see outside with my phone pretty brightly. The auto brightness is kind of finicky though so I tend to turn it off and just max out the setting when I'm outdoors. It seems a little brighter than my LG G3 and maybe slightly less than my Note 3.
Audio is such a pleasure on this device. I got the Hifi headphones with mine, and they're a bit bass heavy, but I'm still enjoying listening to a lot of different music. I've only played a little bit with the front and downward firing speakers. They seem loud. Nothing insane, but it seems a lot more clear than the single downward firing speaker on my Note 3 and G3. It feels a bit louder than the dual front facing speaker system I had on my Z3, but the IP certification on those always made the noise seem kind of muddled compared to the HTC 10.
I updated my phone right away to the latest update, so I haven't experienced any wifi issues.
I only toyed with the camera a little, but it seems impressive from what I've seen. I've played with an S7E a bit, and yeah, it doesn't seem as fast, but to be honest, I'm not sure I care as long as the quality is there, and it seems to be.
No complaints. Just a little pleasure. I'm doing a lot of gaming on it right now and using Boost+ to minimize resolution. The phone stays a lot cooler than my Note 3 and G3 by a pretty long way.
One peeve I do have is that the glass is curved a bit more than I was anticipating so when I received my glass screen protector, I thought to myself,
"Wow, this looks a lot smaller than I thought it would be," but as I applied it, I realized the screen protector was still too big and there's some left surrounding the edges where the phone is. I don't know if there will ever be a screen protector that goes all around, but I also don't like the idea of not having tempered glass on my screen protector.
It's just such a lovely phone. I've gone through a lot of phones over the years, but this one is special.

I just got my HTC 10. Evidently a bit early. I pre ordered on VZW and paid $14 for noon delivery on the 5th. I was shocked to see it show up here today. If I had been home, I would have gotten it even sooner than I did.
I'm looking forward to everyone's thoughts and impressions. I'm just now getting to unbox it.

Call quality is great, you'll have a bit harder time to match the earpiece to your ear because of the smaller speaker grill, but once there it's excellent
For those that have it how does it feel in the hand for one handed use? One of things that's concerning me a little. Its not the smallest of the 5.2" phones and I wish it was.
Played with one a few weeks back but it was so briefly I don't remember much lmao
Oh and hows the front camera for things like snapchat?
What's the notification light like? Is it RGB?
Usually it' so tiny on a HTC phone.

I did take a pic of it in the box with the lid off, but that is pretty generic.
The following are my opinions only:
I've been using the phone for a few hours. I feel the one handed use is better than the LG V10.
The camera is good enough for me. Snappy, little lag. But I'm not a professional, nor do I buy the phone to take professional quality pics.
Phone quality - Great. We never talk about it. Crisp and clear. Good connections. I like it.
Almost no bloat. I mean seriously. Where is it. There are a few things on it that can be removed. Games etc. But its not overpowering like some other flagships I've played with.
I refuse to talk about battery life until I've used the phone for 3 or 4 days and stop touching it like the damn nerd I am.
Overall - At this point I'm lovin it. Especially since I got it early. LOL.
@ufkal, you get 10 bonus points for having XDA on the screen behind the box Don't use them all at once

Any chance you have someone near that has a activated Verizon sim, and can test if it works for the Unlocked 10? Many of us would be very grateful!
For those who have just gotten their 10, have you been able to do a system update? I "Check for new system update" in settings, and the phone just sits there, checking for new software. please wait. . For real I'm at 8 minutes right now, so I'm guessing its not working.

I think I may have found my first "complaint" with the phone. and its more with the software. And probably with me not knowing what I'm doing.
I use my phone for work and personal. So all my work contacts are in a group. On previous devices I could assign a ringtone to a group, so I would know if the incoming call was from work, or from one of the kids on the team I coach etc. you follow?
I do not appear to be able to do that with this particular device. I can assign individual ringtones. But that would take hours......
So. unless I'm missing something pretty basic. My first complaint...

It's working on two colors and using light flow lite I could only get green and yellow as usual. Maybe needs kernel mod as there's some rumor it's capable of rgb.
But anyway the LED is bigger than on m9 or m7
Much easier to notice

I don't want to have to mod to get RGB. HTC why do you not just fit one as std.

St. Louis as in St. Louis in Missouri in USA? Is the update actually available in the USA?
1.30.xxx.x has been available in Europe + Asia (EMEA) but it was said that the 1.30.xxx.x would arrive in USA end of this week.
I'm trying to remember whose tweet that was or where I read it but can't for the life of me find it right now.

looks like a review is up, although it will need translating
Chrome translated the review for me. Here's the meat of the conclusion:
It's time to take stock, and, unfortunately, in many ways I have to admit that the HTC One X turned out not the way this unit is pictured in person I am. What I wanted to see the new flagship of HTC as a user and fan of the brand? First, the significant improvement of the camera, and such changes are announced by the company. According to the pattern that was in my arms, I can say that the quality of the camera HTC One X not only departed from previous models of the manufacturer, but in some ways even became worse. Secondly, I would like to see a new flagship has become more flexible and open, in the sense that buying a phone for 30,000 rubles, I would have received at the hands of high-quality and highly customizable tool. However, HTC One X is not a trivial slot for memory card, so that the flagship is limited to 25 gigabytes, is used here is still not the most common format microSIM, which also adds a smartphone points. Thirdly, HTC over the summer last year, trained their users to the fact that if the body is smart and Beats Audio is 30,000 rubles, the kit you will find the just-like-quality headphones from the Beats. Here, it is not.
Of course, the smartphone has many strengths, without thinking it is an excellent display, quality plastic and, to my taste, just a gorgeous, fresh design vehicle for the company. In addition, we should not discount the HTC Sense 4.0, although the interface is the company "better" is not quite clear, it still remains the strongest link in the company's products, giving users a convenient box of HTC phones to make calls, e-mail and much more.
With all of the above disadvantages, I must honestly admit that I like HTC One X. First of all, its design (talking about the device in white), second - still comfortable Sense, and the third - the fact that the aggregate of qualities, this little smartphone stands out from the dozens of Android-repetitive clones. Simply put, I see the sparkle in it, there is a sense that it put the soul, and let's turned into such a controversial product. But if we try to answer the question, I would have bought a HTC One X, or wait a Samsung Galaxy S III - the answer is unambiguous, we must wait for the flagship of the Samsung and then draw conclusions. The new flagship of HTC's success with some points of view, but others turned out to be not good enough, this machine feels the potential, but the company failed to disclose to the end. I would like to make it like a fairy tale, HTC have taken into account the problems and errors with the release of One X (no memory card slots, frankly Camera Raw, I do not know what was going on in the module itself, or in software) and then offered to users an updated version of, say, HTC One X2 or something like that. But is it possible in today's world of commerce and endless racing technology?
Ouch :-( That doesn't sound too positive..
Using google translate the conclusion seems to be:
Bad
- Camera is worse than he expected and in his opinion worse than some previous models
- No SDCard slot
- Micro SIM
- No Beats
Good
- Excellent Display
- Quality Plastic
- Gorgeous Fresh Design
- Sense 4.0
He likes the phone but feels HTC just missed the mark slightly. He would need to wait for the SG3 specs before making a decision. He hopes for a HTC One X2 with the bad points fixed.
Indeed.
I will really consider if to return this phone or keep it

I actually think its quite positive. If you look at the bad points then we have known about 3 of them for a long time. For the camera part we have hamdir who will guide us on how to optimise it from a usage point and then we have a lot of dev's who will hopefully be able to tweak it. Also this is just one persons view.
Also I noticed he stated the battery was ok no better or worse than other android devices and he stated "When watching a video of the charge lasts for 4-6 hours, depending on the quality of the preview clip, and the selected level of brightness." Which seems ok to me.
Most of the bads aren't a surprise and therefore not bad to me. But if the camera is bad, then there is really something wrong, since the camera is supposed to be one the biggest selling points. And if it isn't great, I will return the One X that I expect to receive in a few days.
But I really hope it isn't true...
i don't really think micro sim, no memory slot, and no beats headphones should really be counted so negatively. the camera is another thing, though. i still want one because i already know the quality of Samsung software and source code, which is bad.
i'm hoping for an engadget or techradar review monday, those are my go too sites for mobile phone reviews.
Bought the phone mostly for the camera, hopefully software updates can improve it

He also notes that he was on preproduction firmware (which may imply preproduction hardware), and notes that while there was no flex or creak initially, that after a week or so he could move the screen about a millimeter by pressing down in the middle of the left edge, as shown in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj-CYNDfd6c
That's pretty alarming, and I hope limited to being a preproduction quirk.
Oh, and he says that he couldn't register multitouch beyond two fingers in any test app, although he knows that a three-fingered swipe starts the remote video function. Hope implementing that function doesn't prevent three-fingered touch, because I use at least one app that specifically needs three-fingered touch to pan.

I don't see if he mentions his settings, but his photos are noticeably, significantly less sharp than we've seen from users here.
Let's not forget that if phones came out the box perfect and problem-free, we wouldn't be here on XDA!
Half the fun is going to be identifying the flaws and working on setting them right.
Regardless of how the forthcoming reviews turn out, I think the One X is going to be a solid platform to do that on, and is going to have massive amounts of support and development here.
Bring on full root, s-off and kernel source code!
I'm starting to think his pre-production firmware may nullify much of his review. Just tried the video samples after they took forever to download, and both seem to show extreme frame dropping.
The google translate is not superb, I didn't understand a thing about speaker volume for ringtones nor the screen under sunlight performance

For the multi touch, I can tell you there is an option in the settings which allows the phone to register more than 2 simultaneous touches. It registered all my 10 fingers, though it was hard to put them all on the screen and move them around

It seems that HD video reproduction is not fluid, only with low bitrates. That's a HUGE turndown, for me.
Unless I've misread the translations, The only main bad point is the camera & in all videos & test shots I've seen - the camera is great!
What a stupid review.
No micro SD slot - Google has already stated they want it done this way, as external sd slots actually cause problems & slow the device down. (HTC are offering dropbox as a compromise too)
Micro sim - i notice it wasn't a bad point when apple did it. (apparently micro sims will become the norm for everyone in future devices anyway)
Basically, they loved the screen, speed, sense & design yet still thought up some rubbish to put a negative spin on the review.
Talking of the SGS3 to see how this device compares? - who the hell does that? - the sgs3 is still just an idea, a prototype hasn't even been introduced yet & no device should ever be judged on another device, a review is supposed to be of this device, & this device alone.
Forgive me if I pay no attention to this 'review'

You've misread the review. He criticized quite a few things, but most of them seem to be either user error, or likely related to the fact he didn't have final firmware.
One thing stands out as alarming, though. He noted that on his sample, within just a week the gorilla glass section of the case had come loose from the unibody, and could move up and down by around a millimeter when pressed.
There's a video making the problem clearly visible; hopefully it's just a handmade preproduction body that doesn't have the same tolerances as a final release product.

Either it was user error on the reviewer's part, or his preproduction firmware lacked the feature.

Yes I saw that, but I've never heard of this from anyone else, not even on demo units & HTC couldn't afford for this to happen on mass production.

Guys and gals, let me start off by saying that I am an absolute phone whore. Last year alone, I owned almost every single flagship at one point or another. I've rooted all my phones, have flashed 100's of roms, etc. You can check my posting history, blah, blah. I'm not trying to brag or anything, I just want people to know that I'm not some Android noob.
Anyhow, I am most recently coming from a Nexus 5 and a Note 3 before that. Last year, I owned the HTC One M7 twice. Each time for about a week. The first time is when my gf and I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile. When we didn't get good reception at work, we switched to AT&T and I once again got the M7. We are still on AT&T, but I dumped my M7 after a week on AT&T for the Note 3. Anyhow, here were my issues with the M7 that I see again with the M8:
1. After all the constant "excellent build quality" praise that the M7 and now M8 constantly get, I really just don't see it. Based on materials alone, yes, the M7 and M8 are excellent in materials. In actual build quality, they are both quite poor in my opinion. Both of my M7's from last year had screen fitment issues where they weren't flush with the top and bottom speaker grills. It annoyed the heck out of my OCD self and was one of the few reasons why I returned them both.
My M8 has a very similar issue. On the right side of the phone, the top and bottom speaker grills are raised above the glass. So my finger snags when I'm swiping up or down on the screen. Super annoying and I'm going to exchange it for sure, if I even keep this phone in general.
2. The LED notification light....if you can call it one. Is HTC the only smartphone manufacturer that doesn't understand the importance and desire from consumers to have a bright, legible and multi-colored LED notification light? The one on the M7 and now M8 is pathetic. Might as well not even have one. It is the size of a pinhole, can only show green or amber, and it is next to useless.
To HTC's credit, the one on the M8 does seem to be a bit more visible than it was on the M7, but it could be in my head. And also keep in mind that I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought the M8, so it's my own fault with this issue. I still wanted to mention it however as it still bothers me.
3. The camera. I will keep this one short as there is constant discussion about it and people have varying opinions. My opinion is that it's lackluster, and I never thought I would say my Nexus 5 camera is better than a premium flagship phone. But it is, and I will leave it at that.
And once again, I knew what I was getting into before I purchased the M8, but I fell for HTC's duo camera marketing thinking it might somehow make 4mp's better than 4mp's. It didn't and I'm disappointed for the most part.
4. Software....I don't know what it is, but Sense 6 feels cold and empty to me. Coming from the Nexus 5, I know this might sound like a bizarre statement, but something feels off and I can't quite pinpoint it. It feels, dare I say, boring. Yes it is fast and smooth, I will give it that. But that's about where it ends for me.
I also can't wrap my head around HTC still not addressing their messaging app oddity. On the M7, when you got a new text message and opened the app, the new message wouldn't immediately appear and it would refresh quickly and then it would show up. I don't know about anyone else, but that is super duper annoying to me. And it's sadly still present on the M8.
Some might say, "use Hangouts or a 3rd party app". And I would say "nope". I hate how Hangouts handles SMS and MMS and I don't like to use 3rd party apps for text messaging. Just personal preference.
5. The physical aspect of the phone itself....it's just too tall. I understand they had to cram amps, a bigger battery, etc into the phone. But almost as tall as the Note 3? Come on. The phone feels good in the hand however, but it's just a little cumbersome. And I still hate the top of phone power button placement even thought they moved it from the left side to right.
With all of that being said, I still really, really like this phone believe it or not. The above average sound from the speakers, good battery life, good reception (compared to my Nexus 5), very nice quality screen, and fluid performance all add up for me.
So now I'm in the dilemma of deciding if the cons outweigh the pros enough to return the phone. Are my gripes unreasonable? Am I alone here? Any advice or thoughts?
Thanks!
You are not alone...I have owned pretty much every Android flagship as well.
At least some if not most will have the same gripes.
I have a One on the way soon but I am not as particular (at least I think so).
1. I never had screen fitment issues. I owned about 4 M7's (don't ask lol)
2. Notification light...ya this one bugs me. You pointed out yourself and I'll leave it at that.
3. I give up on the camera discussion. I'll refrain on chiming in on this because this can go on for days. In the end, I'm ok with it. If I want good shots, I have a regular camera.
4. I love Sense..simple, clean, and fast. I don't need all the bells and whistles. If I do, I pull out my Note 3 which is used for work mainly.
The One (pun intended) thing that keeps me coming back is the M7/M8 just does what it does best...be a smartphone. I think the biggest complaint is the camera. I think the M8's strong points are more than enough to make up for the lackluster camera which isn't the best but it's adequate.
For you WizeGuyDezignz, the questions is are you willing to return/sell/exhange the M8 for all the things you point out?

I was just recollecting today about how much I disliked my M7 (and how happy I was to trade it for an S4), and I couldn't remember why.
This is the #1 reason why (with bad battery life of course)! There is so little color and so little contrast that the whole UI is BORING! TouchWiz on the S4 was colorful and inviting. Although it was more bloated, the experience was more pleasant somehow.
I also have to agree with all of your other gripes. The build "quality" seemed quite lacking (and mine was pretty good compared to some of the "Ones" that looked like trash out of the box). Apple does it right with the metal. HTC, not so much. I'm canceling my M8 Dev order and either going for a GPE or an S5. I'd never hated a phone as much as I had the M7 (just /using/ it made me unhappy), and I really don't want to go through the same thing with the M8 (Sense hasn't changed much and I'm sure it will go down the same). If I were you, I'd return it and go for an S5 or GPE as well.
And no, you aren't alone/crazy, but maybe I am

I have a M7 right now, will be getting M8 when T-Mobile has it. But I'll chime in as well, since theyre pretty similar.
1. Yea, I agree. I had tons of issues with my first M7, my second M7 is better but still not perfect. Your issues with the M8 sound a lot better than either of my M7s though.
First one: Badly mis-aligned top and bottom speaker grilles. Recessed power button (had to use my nail to really push it). Screen wasnt flush with the bottom grille.
Second one (current one): Top and bottom grilles are better, but still slightly misaligned. Power button is normal. Screen is slightly sunken in on the lower left corner, but I'm not sure if this developed over time.
2. Yep.. I miss the notification lights from my old phones. They all did this better than the HTC One, except for the HTC G2... which had an equally useless tiny LED behind the speaker grille... hmmmmmmm
3. I'm one of the few that actually likes the camera. I have no need for so many megapixels. My Canon 5D Classic has 12.8MP and my Panasonic GM1 has 16MP. Even with these cameras I dont like to zoom in 100%, even with my sharpest lenses in the best lighting I rarely want to zoom in that far. Theres no need for a phone to have that much... I'd say 8MP at most, but I'm fine with the 4MP right now.
4. I dont have an issue with Sense. But maybe you feel its "cold" because its completely black and white? I believe Sense 6 allows you to change the colors a bit, so try that.
5. Yeaa.. its a pretty big phone. I'm not sure how I'll adjust to the M8 after having my M7. I would rather lose the speakers since I don't use em anyway but meh. Maybe next year.

Yeah, the reason why I posted this was to type all of my thoughts out to make me think more logically. On the surface, I want to keep the M8 for the style/design, speakers, etc. But I can't let that be the only reason. I need to look beyond those things and value the functionality of the software and the user experience.
This is why I am actually going to consider the S5. I already pre-ordered it for my gf since she wants to stick with Samsung. So I am going to give hers a test drive and make up my mind at that time.
Thanks for your input!
They aren't completely black and white (one is though), but all four themes lack contrast. There's no "custom" theme option from what I've seen (ability to customize the four main colors), and the whole thing looks too bland to me because of it. To each their own, but Sense just doesn't cut it for me. Although I've installed ROMs numerous times, I always find myself back at stock for one reason or another. Hence, I'm against putting a custom ROM on the M8 to fix the colors.

Honestly, I think it would be better to just install a custom launcher or wait for custom roms (if you dont mind unlocking/rooting your phone).
Samsung's Touchwiz is the worst thing I have ever used. I've never owned a Samsung phone but I've helped plenty of friends with their S3s, S4s, etc. I also cant stand the plastic build. And the S5 looks like a bad ripoff of the original Nexus 7.

I've been in the exact same situation as you, wanting to get the M8 because of the metal/hype/great reviews, but if you don't like the UI you don't like the UI. I'm very glad I could help, and don't forget you helped me also! It was your post that made me realize why I disliked the M7 so much

I considered the Google Launcher, but all of the stock apps have the theme/color issue too. Probably the biggest reason I've stayed away from ROMs (except for when I've tried them of course ) is that they're never 100% perfect, and rarely as stable as stock.
The GPE caught my eye, but I'd just assume get a Nexus 5... Some metal, speakers, SD slot, and a bit more battery life are in no way worth a $300 premium IMO (and more weight+slower updates). Does the GPE even support the Dot View?

... You all know there has been TONS of themes for Sense made here on xda right? Can make it look however you like.. sure there's no built in option for it in the ui itself, but there are flashable zips aplenty here. That should be a non-issue. And if you like the nexus(aka stock/aosp), the same launchers work for this phone and the m7. Can even convert the m7 to GPE, and I'm sure the m8 will be the same once we get soff..
As for build quality, you need to at least exchange the phones, I've had 3 m7's and now the m8 and all are absolutely perfect. No raised speaker grills or anything of the sort. Had to just be a bad luck at the time(s) or something :/

I know my team already has some made and working on more, and I know there are a couple other teams/people making themes for sense 6 too but don't have any links handy. It's taking a little longer as there were massive changes compared to 5.5 but yeah there are themes out for sense6 and there will be a bunch more soon.

And I'll be honest:
Even if the colors were nice and had good contrast, it still wouldn't work for me. The whole thing: menus, blinkfeed, settings, they're all too /flat/. This may seem weird, but the new TouchWiz has some "texture" to the menus and such.
Also, as an iOS user, I was actually insanely surprised about how similar Samsung's settings and quick toggles are to iOS 7's... But hey. I like it

That does look kindaa similar. But I'm sure there are plenty of valid arguments on both sides... Didnt Windows Phone do the whole flat look in general first?
Meh. I stopped supporting Samsung a while ago for my own reasons, so I have no idea who did what first anymore.
Yeah I don't care who did it first, but I just wanted to emphasize how hard Sammy is trying to get iOS users to switch. They'll get my money, but it'll be used on my "mess around" line. No Android offering can take me away from iOS 100% yet
Edit: Windows phone was the OG flat--more reminds me of Sense than iOS though (very little color, mostly 2-3 tone). iOS is colorful and flatter than it was, but not Sense 6 or WP8 flat.
I had a Lumia 1520 for a while, and hated it for the same reason I did the M7 (OS colors).
On WP, there was nothing you could do to change it

Thanks!

I also have this, does anyone else? Is this a fault and should I be sending this back? Only have a day or two left cooling period so need to decide asap.
thanks
i will let go of all the nega on the main OP
however regarding build, we all been there before, a unit or two or even a dozen will never reflect something that is in mass production
products coming from China will forever have a possibility of imperfections, yes even iphones, for that if you are really picky just replace your unit
millions of happy M7 owners will disagree with you there, yes there was a bad batch at launch but it quickly moved on
so why go through this everytime as if its something new, just hand pick or replace your unit and move on

The One with Sense 6.0 has a theme chooser builtin, it makes the theme making VERY easy for XDA folks.
Just pay a visit to the themes section and see how in just 5 days how much themes are made and consider 1000x more in a couple of weeks, INCLUDING colors and icons of your beloved ios 7
Well guys, I returned my M8 today and pre-ordered the S5. While in the AT&T store as I was waiting for them to process my return, I played with the S5 that they had in the store. I'm sold and it's a better fit for me. The M8 got really boring very fast. I guess I'm not a Sense fan.
Oh well, I understand the people who are fans. Good luck all!! :good:
I have had my first hands on the M8 today. Speed aside, I swear I wasn't impressed. The M7 is a legendary phone like the Galaxy S2 was. This M8 is the same as the M7 but taller and the metal is brushed. Now that I have had my hands on the M8 I can honestly say that I prefer the M7 (looks).

Need help guys these niggles are starting to bother me...
1.the heat problem when playing games for longer than 5 mins is stupid its even worse when you turn off the auto turn down brightness restriction off..super gets hot...if you dont play games its fine general browsing etc
2.the warm colour effects are not right colours look washed out at times..
3.battery barely lasts a day which i think is linked to heat problem..cpu working at 1 million miles per hour lol.
4.qhd tech makes either games look horrible or look ok or dont exists on the playstore (device not compatible) or some games simply crash
I love the looks, the feel, and operation
Im an occasional user, dont play games for long, great phone
But my question is will firmwares fix these problems?? Or is it the fact if we dont play games. And put up with rest its fine??
It's a new device so in my opinion you should wait for firmware updates rather than selling it now.

I know but 801 chip i feel isnt really designed for qhd..where the rumored prime has 805..so lg had to make sacrifices to make it all work how it should.
It puzzles me how LG allowed a phone to come out with issues that in many cases isnt minor the heat issue especially..and compensate they turn the brightness down turning tge restriction off on the hidden simply fries when you are playing any games
I hope LG has magic up there sleeves i do..
Sell it... to me for $10.
If you don't like it, sell it
Personally I don't have any of the issues you're mentioning, extra heat is no big deal in my opinion, and I play games a lot.... Battery time is good for me, around 4h to 4h30 screen-on time, better than my tweaked S4 was.
In fact the only issue I have with the phone currently is the size, I still find it a little too big for my hands, but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually
For your question, firmware fixes will probably make a little bit of a difference for battery / heating, but you're likely to have better results with custom kernel, when they become available (I'd say we still have a couple of weeks to wait before we see some serious development happening on the G3).

I must admit, I'm contemplating selling mine too though I don't really have any of the problems you mention. Just not feeling it for some reason. I have backlight bleed all the way round but, again, it doesn't bother me much.
I'm thinking about the galaxy prime (or F). Ideally something with a 5.2inch amoled screen (1080p would do) with slim bezel and metal back, removable battery, sd-card slot...
The Xiaomi mi3 looks nice if the spec was upped a bit

I have always had the reasoning, soon as you doubt something and want to sell it. Do so, otherwise you'll be looking for niggles and you'll find them and then it'll just annoy you until you sell it on.
Ultimately only you can decide, but if you're already doubting it. Get shot now while you can and won't lose any money.

Hi Guys...
Well its on ebay now...I just wasn't feeling it...
Good luck guys, hope all works out LG fix the kinks and the devs flood the gates with custom roms etc..
I am in the same boat as you. Think about selling or returning it everyday but the issue is I am on AT&T. If I return it then I don't see any other viable option. Not interested in S5 ( no more Samsung), can't stand the black bar on M8 and obviously a big no for microscopic iPhone. So I would have to sell it. So for the time being I am just using it carefully and if I don't see any unlocking for bootloader I will sell it in a month and go back to using my N5.
Returning mine to cpw for a refund even tho I've had for a month there willing to refund me
just sell it and get an iphone

I played with one at a store the other day and was not impressed. It definitely looks and feels nicer than the G2 (I owned) but I saw so much lag I couldn't believe it.
If LG sold that as a Nexus I'd sell my Nexus 5 in a split second. They've come much farther with their UI than the G2 (hated that UI with a passion) but it's still clunky.
There is NO reason lag should be present on a 2014 flagship phone with 3GB of RAM. No excuse other than pooey software.

point blank 2k screen. 801 and adreno 330. dont care what anyone says. same thing applies to a pc when pushing more pixels
Hi,
I was testing out the camera on our two note 4s last night. I took pictures of the exact same scene and compared them. Turns out that there is a pretty big gap between the quality of the pictures taken. On one phone, the pictures appear brighter and clearer. On the other, the pictures seem more yellowish and dark. I've attached images to show what I'm talking about. Anyone else with this issue? I can't decide whether I need to swap the phone out.
I swapped my phone out for other reasons. I was having issues with the top of the screen being a bit pink. The camera in the new phone is exactly the same as the old phone. It's like my wife's phone is shooting pics at a slightly cooler temperature. Wish that was adjustable. Her pictures are also clearer. It's like they are using two different sensors. Oh well, that's life I guess. I probably won't use the camera all that much, and there are so many other things that I do like about the thing.
Hi,
I have noticed the same issue..Today I went to best buy to compare the pictures from best buy note 4. I could see the little difference, exactly same issues with the color as posted by you. Did you exchange the phone? the best buy guy told me to try resetting the phone but I dont think it will work.

I exchanged once, but for screen issues. I had a screen that was a bit pink on the top and green on the bottom. My current screen is a bit uneven on the lighting, but good enough. I know that perfect screens on any device are exceedingly rare.
I don't think that I'll exchange it again, unless there's something else wrong with it. I have until Saturday to decide.
If you do reset the phone and it works, please let me know. That solution just seems like something that they say to get rid of people who are complaining. I can't see it doing anything at all. But hey, what do I know.
If it is something widespread, maybe it's something that can be remedied with a software update in the future. Is there any way that I can check which camera sensors are on the two phones? Maybe they're different.
I will see tomorrow and reset at best buy only so that I can compare. The difference is little so wondering should I exchange or not as I still have time. I clicked the pic from their cam and transferred to my phone and I could see the difference.

The difference is why I'm wondering if there is more than one sensor in use in these phones. I see no difference at all in photos that are well lit. It's only on pics that are taken in lower light that the difference comes out.
I doubt that I'd exchange for this reason. So far, everything else about the phone is seems fine. And I already exchanged once, and ended up with the exact same camera issue.
Went to best buy today and compared with their phones. Over there I could see very little difference between different phones so did not exchange it. I think its software issue and hoping it will be fine with the update.

Hoping that you're right. From all of the talk, I was expecting some wonder camera. So far, I've been unimpressed. Outdoor shots are nice enough, but indoor is strictly hit or miss for me.
I thought I was the only person that thought this.. I have a similar post with the same problem. Verizon guy says they would to have to send it in and etc. I just exchanged it for the turbo, I wasn't to happy either with his attitude. Its definitely a problem no one is addressing.
Sent from my DROID TURBO 64 GB
If I was having a problem with a 1000 doller phone you better bet you're sweet @$$ I'd be takin it back!
Yes, the camera is not great. Indoor shots are poor and I phone is much better. The reason I did not exchange it because I did not want to get a new phone if it has same camera. This is first time I am using samsung, hoping the note 4 will be amazing. Its slow than my previous phone (HTC, Iphone) but has lot of functions. Only good part is I got this phone for 99$ as I got 200$ rebate for my very old phone. I hope phone will become faster after getting android Lollipop.

Same. I actually did exchange my first one for other reasons, and the camera was exactly the same. Other than some minor screen issues, the phone is fine. I don't want to risk exchanging it for something worse. I only have three days until my 14 days is up, so if I get something with other issues, I am stuck.
I am hoping that this is something that they can remedy with a software fix. If not, I guess I can always send it to Samsung as a warranty claim.
Just add it to the issues on my 4th replacement (3 during the hand grenade era) (1 post with the TMO update).. Now the phone makes a ticking noise when first powered up and left to sit without logging into the phone or doing anything. It does it at idle and doesn't stop until the phone is logged into. However the caveat is that if the phone sits idle for a few minutes, it starts making the ticking noise again.
You can see the voltage jump ever so slightly around the tick sound, and the voltage drops. When you get into the phone is jumps to 9 volts, 15 watts, and just under 2 amps... Which I am sure is the norm for the speed charge... However the ticking should not be. Maybe it will explode!
And while others don't get the "common sense" of what is going on not only here in the US but abroad - it really is cut and dry. While the fan children cry about how someone in China used an after market charger and plugged it into his MAC to charge it, the phone should be equipped with a cut off for non Samsung approved devices. Apple does it, sony does it, and many other phone makers. They know "not everyone" is going to utilize Samsung cords. Me personally, I will use only approved cables, but not everyone is going to be. Hop in your friends car, you have no charge, but he/she has a cable and you just plug in. Samsung needs to take a stronger stance on aftermarket garbage out there.
With that all being said it's still the fault of the company. There are roughly 6.8 billion cell phone subscriptions out there. And the only one you have heard huge failures in (phones exploding) are from whom? Exactly... So the fan children can blame it on whatever they want to. They can stand up for a brand that lost 29 billion in market share, stock loss, non return customers, or they can grasp it and push to have Samsung produce better products and not be concerned with trying to get a device out before it's major competitor.
When you have more than half of the users that signed up leaving for other brands, you have tainted the market for your self. Fan kids opinions don't really matter because the majority out number the dedicated users of the devices. And when you have Sammy's major competitor out there with a device that just works (a few hiss issues aside) (no explosions) it's easy to see why people with common sense and whom aren't using mommy and daddy's money are upset. When you pay 900 for a device, it should just work. It should not lag, it should not have battery drain issues, it should not be gimped (ie. slowing the charge down) etc...
I am on my 4th phone and they all had the same issues. TMO provider... Lag on all but 1. Notification sound loop (every phone). Deformed portions on the screen edge on 2 of them. Extremely hot and messed up the ZAGG and discolored on 2 of them which TMO witnessed along with the sounds and screen edge issue. (They replaced immediately). And you get into little things like the Geekbench scores. They should be consistent from phone to phone. All three of my apples consistently match up within 50/100 points of my colleagues and my phones. Just the way it is... There is no reason I should get a phone that hits on the high side of the Geek Bench SD scores then get another phone that is 1000's lower. No one is going to look at the performance I suppose because it's a step up from their old device - so to them it looks like the next best thing. Reality is, it's performance sucks. With no apps on it but the bloatware and even with bloatware disabled you still get the lag. After master reset, you get the lag. After soft reset, you get the lag. And yes, I have even humored the long time android users and used EZ disabler and shut down all the crap that is on the phone (preloaded). And alas, STILL THE SAME ISSUE. Even then, I should not have to shut down anything.
All of the issues I have seen displayed are pre app install. Pre Samsung switch. I had pop ups on 3 of the phones out of the box. Candy crush and some other game. I am not sure if this was from TMO or Samsung. But from others I know that had the phone they didn't get the popups. I had installed Facebook on my phone and twitter. I did this at the store, just because I had been talking about the phone when I got it. I didn't make it out of the parking lot before the app crashed. The Facebook app continued to do that. By the time I got to my third phone, the app didn't crash. Not sure what changed but it worked. Now on my 4th version, I have only had the finger print sensor crash over and over. So far the other apps (27 of them) work. But I think it's only a matter of time. (smh)
I get the majority here have no clue. And I get there are a few members that get the reality but are afraid to say something because the children here will troll and flame them. I have seen it on my posts, where there only excuse is "just return the phone". That really is the best they have and it shows how ignorant people are. People are taking to the internet, youtube, etc... to voice their opinions. Samsung has lost their butts and need to start listening to it's customer base. Especially those out there that jumped from one company to another because the phone was touted as the best thing out there. Well, it's apparent by customers (not main stream media) that this entire launch and aftermath is a failure. And whether you can be adult enough to see that or not is on you... But the facts, still remain...
BTW... I am sure someone is going to tell me this is normal, and if it is... show me a post on it and what it is. It's sounds like a capacitor discharge issue.
For those of you intelligent enough to get it, I appreciate it.

Honestly I thought like alot of people here that people were trying to bash the phone, but after i experienced replacing and having 3 of them. Now i believe there are defective ones. My first was great but had to return. Second was bad my hime button looked off set and my front facing camera chamfered edges were not aligned. The shiny circle around the lens. Then the big one I watched video on my phone and one side was washed out bad. I thought it was the video or movie or pic I compared yes, the bottom of the phone pixles were bad blacks were gray skin color faded very noticeable. This was a new one with the green battery also I waited in best buys store so long many times this sucked. Went replaced it showed them all good now. Love my phone it's superb. Word of warning not all posts are bs or OCD picky people. Look at your phone return it until you get one you like. I did there is a huge difference. Good luck to you all.

For the link in China people do fraud bad, if you know about the country people will jump infront of your car to claim you hit them. They were also caught by Sammy they were cooking there phones so they would explode and sue them. They found out when the photos Cleary clearly show signs of something a battery exploding is not capable of. This being Asian countries I dont worry or expect it to continue.

You really need to find a hobby. You've only been an XDA member for two days and have posted page after page of the same material across half a dozen threads. For every negative media link you've fished up there's a counter point that you've omitted. The worst thing for me about the Note7 is that I own the same phone you do.
At the risk of opening the gates of hell and encouraging you, here's something for you to ponder. A new iPhone 7 exploded.

Yes sir.. A lot of is has to be with the local fan types that want to keep the name and brand safe. However there is nothing they can say to refute what is going on with these phones. I have seen the videos with the kids jumping in front of cars lol.. and let's say that 10% of the cases are fraud. That still doesn't negate what is going on elsewhere including here in the US. Originally the numbers were from other countries but a good percentage were here. And Sammy was unable to dispute the individuals claims. HAD that not been the case you can bet that they would have put out a campaign to protect their names. It's unfortunate but that is what happens when you rush a device out to customers and completely ignore quality control.
As far as why I stuck it out? This is why... I wanted to give this device a fair chance. Knowing that devices have imminent failures when they are on initial launch was something I was okay with. I was okay with it after the first, the second, and even the third. After hearing they were going to press quality control on all of the new devices - I was sure they would get it resolved. After all they make some of the best TV's on the planet, and I have own(ed) 12 of them. After receiving the 3rd device I was out of the time frame for TMO to return the device. But again, I was hopeful that the 4th would be fixed. When I received the 4th device - I did my normal hard reset, I then worked with the phone on the base apps for a day. I then installed FB and Twitter, and put my work / personal emails on the phone - all the time dealing with the LAG, dealing with the damn notification sound that loops and won't shut off, and other quirks like the limited battery. A couple days later TMO customers here in Florida were finally able to receive the 404 meg update! I should have known the 404 went hand and hand with the error found on the net. Because while it sped things up a bit, it caused more harm than good IMO. The battery was even worse and I still only had my email and the couple of apps... I was STILL hopeful that things would resolve themselves or another update would come out.
I have wanted to like this phone. (Since it seems the S7 Edge seemed to be flawless) But coming from a world where the phone just works, was snappy, the email you could delete as fast as you could swipe, the messenger just worked, didn't have lag, basically just set the bar high - I wasn't ready for a phone full of failures. The only thing I can say about the phone that is good? Are the SPen and the screen. (After turning the saturation off). Since I wanted to use this to display photos, I was blown away by the resolution. The issue? It takes too long to bring up photos OR I have to live with opening up the gallery app several times because it crashes loading photos of any size. From 120k to full high res images.
TMO has taken the stance not to replace phones here in Florida. They are pushing to go to Sammy. Samsung wants people to send a phone in but doesn't want to give a loaner and WONT give a time frame in which you can get your phone back. This isn't a compensation issue though I paid for my phone in full. This is a principle issue.

ASK And you shall receive:
CNNMoney obtained a video and pictures of the blackened device with Hui’s MacBook tainted with soot and some unidentifiable yellow substance. The IMEI as labeled on the box was checked to be clean and not affected by the recall.
“We are currently contacting the customer and will conduct a thorough examination of the device in question once we receive it,” Samsung stated.
Four Note 7 explosions have been reported in China with Samsung questioning the validity of two claims. In one case, the company blamed an external heat source for causing the explosion.
http://pocketnow.com/2016/09/27/new-chinese-galaxy-note-7-explodes
So to me, 50% of the time is only good when you have 50% chance of winning the lotto... but when phones are blowing up? There is an issue here.. Sooner people stop turning their head to protect a brand that only hurts them in the long run, the better it will be.
Also.. (off topic)... Funny, but sad... If you have polarized glasses, put them on and look at your screen. I see imperfections all up and down the edges. My buddy has the S7 edge (no issues I may add) and I just looked at his, and there are no imperfections. SMH... BAH!

It is clear you do not like the phone and dislike anyone who does by name calling them. Move on by getting rid of the phone and onto the iPhone 7 then you can join those forums and post about how great that device is.
Wow I don't even have the patience to exchange my first let alone four?! Crazy lol just return the phone for a refund and look elsewhere, not worth the headache.
Would have loved too but it's past that point. They won't take them back and Sammy won't do anything either. Unless the phone is an imminent failure. It's garbage... Wait until their second rounds of recalls #ItWillHappen =/
I am with you, but if you read what I said, it explains why I held out lol... Glad you had good luck with yours! I wish I had that experience. With all of that being said, the reasons I had the first 3 swapped out was because all of those errors were verified wrong in front of the Samsung rep at BestBuy... And then with the reps at TMO here in Orlando. Even they could not believe the bs...

Shouldn't this be posted in the washing machine forum?
I went to a cafe for years way back then, the coffee machine always broke down, the smoothie machine broke down, and even when it did work, the smoothies were watered down.. I kept going in hopes that they fixed the issue, but it seemed they were struggling. The coffee was amazing, the smoothies not so much.
What did I do? I accepted that the store was having a rough time, because clearly they didnt obviously want to intentionally sabbotage their own company, and so I went across the street and got a smoothie from somewhere else, but still continued to get coffees there.
Moral of the story? Well... You tell me OP.....
