I really like the features/functions of the stock ROM's camera app, but I couldn't stand the rest of the ROM.
Can the stock camera app be extracted and installed on other ROMs?
Sorry if this has been asked before.

Did anyone ever post a ROM like that?
This 4.2 app pack posted on the portal is giving me FCs everywhere on stock 4.1.2. I don't know what to do anymore...

Hmmm, when i was on CM10, I never had any problems. It does say "deodexed" roms, which i understand to mean custom roms like CM/AOKP, rather than stock. Stock is usually odexed, making it more secure, but less customisable. That's probably why you got FCs. So really, if you're on a custom rom, you should be ok with the patch, given that most custom roms are deodexed.
Doh! I actually knew that!
Hello, i need a little explanation of why the camera app is not working after flashing a rom like CM 10.1 to my dinc.. Even if i installed another camera app from the play store it wont work. Even the vedio camera is not working. Even the gallery is not working. But in my stock Sense rom it worked fine. Is there a way where i can use the Camera app of the stock Sense rom and use it in my new CM 10.1 rom.. WIl it work ?
Most 10+ Roms have notes that cameras may not work and to use Camera ICS
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moblynx.cameraics&hl=en
yeah its because people dont know htcs camera drivers because they wont release them so like he said Cyanogenmod 10 and up you want to use a different camera or stick to stock if the camera is essential, you can try a sense rom.
Another vote for ICS Camera. I was running Tiny's CM10.1 and ICS camera worked.
Good luck.

No, the stock sense camera won't work on anything other than sense. Video camera has been mostly broken on all ROMs ICS and newer, due to driver issues mentioned above. The camera should work on the most recent versions of CM10.1, 10.2, etc., though camera preview may be glitchy especially when rotating. If video recording is important, you're going to have to stick with a sense-based ROM or CM7.2 or older.
Use an odex version, Instead of having to wait months for an original development that isn't up to par?
Hi!
Well, yes, you can do that. You can root your stock ROM and use it as it is. You can even install Xposed Framework and install some modules to even personalize more your stock ROM.
But other ROMs, stock-based or AOSP-based, offer different experiences. That's the fun of Android.

You cannot use any camera mod on LineageOS 14.1 and on basically any AOSP based or CM based custom ROM.
You will need stock firmware for camera mods and I would recommend Cyberian Camera.

I use Manual Camera on the ROM that I am currently running(Exodus ROM) but it has half of its features disabled because I believe CM ROMs don't support so much manual controls yet and for some reason the stock Camera app on Exodus is hidden from the launcher so yeah.
If I was on stock I would just use the stock camera app.nothing else.
