No Calls on Verizon (Text and Data work) - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a 5X and went to activate it on Verizon. Swapped out the sim card, and text/data started to work. But no calls were being sent or received. Spent a while on the phone with customer service, trying all different settings, and nothing. They recommended getting a new sim card, since that may have been the problem (although the sim still worked fine on my Moto X).
Popped into a store last night, and tried out multiple sim cards, and same thing. The guy at the store thought there may have been an issue with how the phone was activating - Verizon should've kept some info from the Moto X in their system, and just updated the IMEI number.
Any idea why this is happening? Happened to anyone else? It's obviously connecting to the network, but calls are just not going through.

Did you buy the H791 model instead of the H790? Only the H790 has CDMA.

How can I tell? I ordered it from groupon and it said it's both CDMA and GSM. No model number listed there, and didn't see it in the settings menu. If it's not CDMA capable, would data/text still work?

The box should say at the least. But yes, LTE provides a data connection. SMS, MMS, and naturally Data will work because of this. But CDMA is required for calling. You may be able to make HD calls to somebody else that has HD or "Advanced Calling" enabled, but that's it if you have the international version. (H791)

I'm not sure, I won't have that phone on me until Monday. Temporarily using my Nexus 6. But I think the Model number just shows Nexus 5x.
Do you have the site address you ordered it from?

Looks like its the correct model. But I would definitely check the box.

Yup, the box has it as H791 even though they said it would work with Verizon. Called Groupon and they had no idea what version they have - if they're all that version or any are the H790.
But thanks for the informed and the help! Couldn't find anything on it, so that was a big help.

[Q] SM-910A on Cricket.

Hey guys I just got the note 4 after having the note 2 for a while so I have a few questions.
I bought my phone from swappa and just popped my CRICKET SIM in with no problems after putting in APN. My only problems are that I cannot set-up call guarding because it says there is a network/SIM error. Any ideas?
The second is that mobile hotspot says there is a temporary error when starting up. Is this because it cannot technically register on AT&T network to work? Ore week I have to use a stock rooted ROM with hotspot for SM-910A (or other compatible ROMS)
What do you guys think, should I just call AT&T (figuring you guys would know more since those people usually don't know what a ROM even is)
As far as I know the phone is network locked but when I try to put unlock request in through AT&T they cannot find my IMEI. Phone is clean ESN since SWAPPA does check before any sale is made.
I also tried both APN settings that have aiowireless or cricket wireless in fields.
call fowarding working good for me just a reminder Cricket Wireless does not provide hotspot.
Cricket has nothing to do with hotspot if its already available. Technically if ATT unlocks phone it should work. Like I did with my note 2.
Are you in the same scenario as me, cricket behind your provider and att model?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A
I understand what are you saying. If you unlock your ATT Phone hotspot not going to work because hotspot only work if you have a ATT rooted phone or a ATT Custom ROM but in this phone its going to be different between note 2 and note 4. note 2 have the bootloader unlocked while ATT note 4 have the bootloader locked thats why its going to be more hard to obtain hotspot in note 4 on Cricket Wireless.
UPDATE: I called ATT and they said if I get the phone unlocked I can do va factory reset and then I will get hotspot unlocked. Apparently my imei is fine and they can check it but the website doesn't work.

I have cricket wireless and have an ATT Note 4 with Hot spot Working. Cricket only allows for certaint devices to use hotspot. And they are all phones that come from Cricket. The only phone they allow that is BYOD (bring your own device - from another carrier [att]) is the iPhones. What I did to get this working was I knew a friend that had the Cricket LG Stylus which is hotspot Compatible. We went to cricket and swapped out IMEIs in the system saying we we're switching phones and wanted it in the system not to just swap simcards in the phones.. When they did this I asked them to enable hotspot on my account and they we're able to enable it. Before they did not have the option because the box was grey out and showed i had a BYOD device. When we left we swapped Simscards back into our phones. Its been working for Two Months no Issues. I use hotspot for my Tablet all the time. Why Cricket does not allow BYOD to use the hotspot feature I will never know. Probably a ploy to get people to purchase their devices but it's Bull**** considering that it works just fine.
NOTE: Upgrade your data or anything you want to to do to your account before you do this as the system will pick up your BYOD phone in the system after a certaint time, hotspot will Continue to work unless their are changes on the account. If you make a change it will disable hotspotwe (showing you have a BYOD) and you will need to go to cricket again with a friend or your cricket phone that is hotspot Compatible and tell them to swap IMEIs and re-enable hot spot. Again. (I had to do this.)

I always thought root was required since I get the attached notification.

Once you've done this you can also swap the sim into another device and hotspot will still work fine. I move my sim between my Att Note4 and my Att Blackberry Classic every other day.

This will continue to happen until you get hotspot enabled on your cricket account.

sent from my SM-N910A
Your phone number is embedded into your simcard.
We went to the store and the representative put the IMEI of my friends Cricket LG Stylo on my Account (connected to my phone #). And Vise Versa. (My AttNote 4 IMEI on her account connected to her phone number). They swapped the Sims when they did the IMEI change because we told them we we're changing phones. but when we left we just immediately swapped phones back when we got to her car.
---------- Post added at 03:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 PM ----------
You do not have to switch sims but the reps will want to because they will want to be sure each phone is working with the accounts they put them on when they get done..
Understood I misunderstood you. I don't know anyone that has cricket but I'm wondering if I can buy a cheap one from list for like$30-50 online. And then ask for swap and do what you did.

[Q] Verizon HTC One M9 is not SIM-locked?

I was surprised, but my new Verizon HTC One M9 have accepted T-Mobile prepaid SIM card. It does display "Unknown SIM" message and annoying icon on top of the screen, but let me place and receive calls and messages. I'm going to try data connection next. It looks like I will not need to exercise free replacement option due to switch to T-Mobile after all. I thought that only i-devices are not SIM-locked on Verizon - so did it change recently? Any ideas about removing annoying "unknown SIM" icon will be appreciated.

My previous phone - Droid M was accepting all international SIM cards but refused to work with TMO and ATT SIMs until I convinced it to reconsider.
That is lame. The phone should be able to take a tmo sim card.
Does anyone know how to get around this without root?

So, does the verizon varient support all bands for t-mobile and att? I'm looking to pick one up but would like to pick the best one that would cover all 3 carriers. Not sure if thats even an option.
From what I understand, att and unlocked are mainly for att. Tmobile should be good for tmobile and att. Then depending, verizon may be best as it might cover all 3.
Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks
So does the phone get T-Mobile LTE or just HSPA+? I have someone trying to sell me an unlocked version but I have tmobile
So, will buying a verizon model work with tmobile? I'm planning to use it with wind mobile in Canada which uses same bands as tmobile, 1700-2100mhz.
Thanks

You need to be rooted to change the sku id in /system/customize/acc/default.xml.
That's the fix...you match the sku to whatever carrier you have.

HTC Desire 526 Verizon

I bought an HTC Desire 526 from Verizon to use in the USA. Can I use this phone in Canada with Koodo instead? Is it only locked on the CDMA portion to Verizon or do I need to unlock it to work in Canada on a different carrier?
Usually 4G LTE verizon phones are already sim unlocked, just need to change the settings from CDMA to GSM.
Try to change the sim card and check if it got connected to your network.

Thanks, I did that and the SIM card with Fido worked for talk/text, but I couldn't get the data to work. Any thoughts?
For Data add your providers APN on network settings =)
So how is the phones performance? Is the snapdragon 210 good enough to make use of the 1.5gb of ram and multitask?
Antutu came out as 18757.
Could you give a real world impression? These phones can get whatever score on a benchmark and then still fail to perform like the S6 due to whatever multitasking/ram issue it had or might still have.
Sure thing, just need to get me one nano sim first.
finally found a real review that provided a good look into many aspects of the phone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6d7A5TXZEE
the 210 doesn't seem that much different from the 410 (really shouldn't be since I believe its only 100mhz difference between the two?) although it does look like I might need to spend some more for something faster.

That's strange, I did it myself and it worked no problems, just have to skip the whole initial setup from verizon/htc, keep hitting skip or omit until you're on the home screen.
Also spent a hard time getting a micro sim cut to nano sim to recognize it, if you can, get an original nano size sim.

Any pre-existing Fi users having trouble with activation?

I'm coming from a Nexus 6 that I've been with Fi on, and I popped my SIM card into my Pixel XL, but when I try to finish the activation, it keeps telling me that the SIM card isn't compatible, and to replace it with one that is. It appears my service is working, from what I can tell (as I can make/ receive calls and texts and browse the internet), but I have a perpetual ongoing notification from Fi that it hasn't finished activating, and when I try to finish it to clear the notification, that's when I keep getting the error. Any ideas?

Here is a snippet from Fi support I read somewhere and copied to my notepad. I would start by using the repair bad activation dialer code. The others are just good to have for reference. If you force a carrier the auto switching doesn't work even for trusted WiFi.

Thanks for the info, but I also just stumbled across an old article from last year about how Fi sims changed and that Fi users had to upgrade their sims when the Nexus 5X and 6P came out. Since I stuck with my N6, that was never an issue for me, and honestly, I didn't even realize that was a thing. So, I placed an order for a new sim. Just sucks that I have to wait another week or so for it to arrive before I can start using my new Pixel. v_v

Yeah, I just ordered a new sim through the website. I assume that all sims they send out now are the newer type, so hopefully they don't just give me a replacement sim for my current N6. @[email protected]
I hadn't ordered my Pixel from the Fi portion of the store, so I never had any kind of an option for a new sim card, that I recall. I just went straight through the Google store.
I got mine through Fi so hopefully when I get home the SIM that came with the Pixel XL won't give any issues.
If you order through Fi, a new sim comes with it. activation went flawless. If you look at the order it should show you a sim card is being sent with the phone. At least mine did.

I don't believe it is so much a newer type sim as much as the sims seems to marry to the phone. When I put the new sim in it went through a transfer of the phone number over to the phone. seemed a bit strange but as I said it did go flawless with the new sim.

Note 10+ 5G Unlocked N976U stopped macking/receiving calls ATT

Hi guys,
My Samsung Note 10+ stopped making receiving calls about two weeks ago.
I have no option for VoLTE if that was the case; I updated my firmware to the last available (Android 12). I called customer service, and they did their "magic" with my IMEI and ID e t. c. I also went to their office, and they said they couldn't help me, but they have customers with the same issues with non-att phones.
Any solutions?

Thank you for your reply.
VoLTE provisioned is inactive.
Please, see the screenshot attached.
How can I activate it?
Not sure, but that's the problem.
Did you get a new sim card for it?
I got it a year and half ago. I will replace it today just in case.

The sim card needs to be configured for 4 VoLTE.
My N10+ was already running it, nothing happened after the switch.
Just got a new Sim. Nothing changed.
Still can't make and revcieve calls.

Was this originally an ATT phone?
No, originally Samsung US version, unlocked.
I have a N975U1 and a new N975U. These are both 4G only variants, no 5G*.
The N976U however is whitelisted by AT&T and should work.
I haven't fully configured the unlocked variant so after reading this thread I was wondering what it do. It hasn't been booted since the switch.
Slammed it the sim card and booted; it's working the same as it's sister.
Try clearing the system cache.
Network reset.
Reset on AT&T's side.
*5G Versions: SM-N976F (Global); SM-N976U (USA); SM-N976N (South Korea)
Thank you. My version is the US version. All those things are done. I think I will change the carrier. ATT is just doing nothing.

Something is misconfigured.
It may be the new sim card or ithe sim card may be damaged; install a new one yourself and handle it like a stick of ram, it's ESD sensitive.
Talk to Advance tech support at AT&T, get someone that knows what they're doing... may take a few tries.
Also clear the data in the sim toolkit app in addition to what I already suggested.
Try a hard reboot as well.
Access point names settings should be this:

I can't add NXTGENPHONE or ENHANCEDPHONE. It disappears right after saving.
There are many people with the same issue on the ATT forum. Many of them spent days talking to the support team; I tried it four times already and went to their office twice. Nothing helps, unfortunately.

I think the problem is the sim card.
On my unlocked new N10+ variant all I did to set it up was slam in the sim card from my other AT&T N10+. I didn't touch any settings on it.

Yesterday, I got a new one—the same story with two sim cards.

I did. The first card I tried to clean with alcohol as well. It stopped working overnight. The new one I tried to reinstall twice.

Maybe the phone side contacts.
I will remind you again the these circuits are suspectable to ESD damage. May fail instantly or days, weeks, even years latter.

After reading all of this, the only thing I have seen in regards to ATT not making calls is with WIFI calling if it does not have the carrier bloat.
You may have fun trying to find the user data file for ATT to flash for N976U.
If you could, load the carrier bloat U package and see if it resolves the issue.
The only other thing I have seen is when ATT deems a phone incompatible, they just suspend the SIM card and make it inactive. If the phone is whitelisted it shouldn't do this.
The best thing would be to go with someone like T-Mobile who won't mess with your SIM etc.

I did. I found it here. I tried different firmware. Nothing helps. I already ordered 22 Ultra. I didn't want to upgrade now, but I can trade in my old galaxy. In this case, it's acceptable for me.
