This is annoying me more than causing any real issues. UK user here on stock 6.0.1.
On my new 5X, I had an EE sim for a few days, shows EE as carrier name for Network Operator and SIM Operator...I use Network Signal Info Pro to show me that info.
It showed as EE in the drawer under the mobile network and on lock screen too...all good.
Just switched to Virgin SIM, and whilst the Network Operator is now Virgin, the SIM Operator is still EE. It shows as EE still in the drawer and lock screen.
Mobile data still works, it is clearly connected properly to Virgin in APN and I received the settings when first put in the Virgin SIM. There is nothing EE related in APN.
How can I fix this? It should say Virgin in the drawer, but it persistently says EE. Toggling aero mode doesn't fix. Neither does refreshing / cycling radio in LTE Discovery app. Restart doesn't fix.
Any ideas? I'm not rooted, FYI (and I don't wish to be rooted as it breaks my online banking apps, which are vital for daily living). So Change Carrier app is not an option for me.
Thanks.

I would try Settings -> Backup & reset -> Reset Network Settings, and see what happens after a reboot.
Just FYI that all your stored Wi-Fi will also be deleted and you'd have to add them again.
But for me this has solved some issues.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't work. Worth a shot I guess.
...and as an extra annoyance it wiped all my Bluetooth devices, which included the pairing with my Android Wear watch, so that needs factory resetting now too and re-pairing.
Hello,
My 5x is also suffering from the same issue. I too am from the UK and have been with Virgin Mobile for years.
The problem started as soon as the MCH19J update arrived. Because my phone was rooted at the time I thought it might have been something I had caused when I flashed the update. I intended to return to fully stock anyway so I decided to flash the MMB29P image as a starting point because I knew for sure that the carrier logo was correct in that version.
With the phone now completely stock and bootloader relocked I installed each OTA update as they arrived and all was fine with the logo until MCH19J when it changed to EE. The April OTA update has now been installed and the logo is still EE.
So it would seem that the issue is not root or a bad flash or the need for a factory reset but an issue within the Android OS itself.

Just out of curiosity are you sure it isnt correct? To my knowledge (not checked recently) Virgin is an MVNO that ran of T-mobile (aka EE's) network.

Yes you are correct, Virgin Mobile UK is an MVNO using EE's network. EE is now owned by BT but that is all behind the scenes and I have not received any notification of changes to do with that.
My wife has a stock unrooted Nexus 5 on the latest (MOB30D) update and that shows Virgin as the carrier in all areas of the phone so I still believe this is an OS issue

I second that...if I put the SIM in an N5 it shows Virgin everywhere, but if I put the same SIM in my N5X it shows EE everywhere (excuse the accidental pun there!) [emoji2]

It's got to be an OS issue, even though I recognise that Virgin does use EE's network.

Since my last post I have sent feedback to Google regarding this via the "Send feedback about this phone" option in Settings/About Phone.
Fingers crossed that the May update due in a day or so will will have a fix for this

Hi there,
I have a rooted Galaxy Nexus, that for some crazy reason won't connect to Wind Mobile's network here in Canada (IIRC, Wind uses the same frequences/bands as T-Mobile). When I first got the phone it did, but now no luck. Originally the phone had Android 4.0.1 (yakju-itl41f) with the UKGL1 baseband. When I got the 4.0.4 OTA that is when things started to go wrong.
I don't think I have a bad SIM card, as when I put the SIM in my Nexus One it works just fine.
I've spoke with Wind Mobile's technical support, and they weren't to useful. The suggested I take the device to their "maintenance centre" here in Edmonton, Alberta. However, when I called this "maintenance centre" there was no answer and I could not leave voice mail. Here are somethings I've tried:
Flashed the following radios:
UGKL1
UGLA4
UGLC1
XXLA2
Other things I have tried:
Turn airplane mode off then on
A hard reset: while the phone is on, pull the battery, pull the SIM, let the phone sit for 5 minutes.
Flashed the 4.0.1 Stock Image from Google (ITL41F).
Flashed the 4.0.4 Stock Image (IMM76D and IMM76I).
Installed CyanogenMod 9 and then set the minimum clock speed to 700Mhz
Erased the cache according to this post.
Disabled the "adaptive voltage scaling" (described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24355203&postcount=28) by doing echo 0 > /sys/kernel/debug/smartreflex/sr_core/autocomp
Currently the device is back to 4.0.1 and UGKL1 as I think I have to return the phone. I'm starting to suspect that the radio is broken.
Any suggestions/tips/ideas a guy could otherwise try?
Thanks in Advance.
What about the apn settings?

The rep from Wind Mobile went over those with me, so the APN is okay.
The phone can see my carrier (302490), it just can't register on their network.

Call Wind and ask the to do a "resend to switch". It may work.

Well, it seems that the problem was hardware. Wind Mobile replaced the phone, now all is well.

This is one of those things that can be most easily solved by calling your operator. When I got my phone and put in the sim card, I had no data. I called O2 and they guy walked me through the setup. It might be a noob way to solve problems, but it definitely works.

It did not matter for me. I have an unlocked phone and a sim card from O2. O2 is providing me with the service, it's their job to make sure it works. My phone was brand new, so it would be safe to assume that there was nothing special about it. Also, here in Germany I can always return the sim card and void the contract within two weeks after buying it, so the network wants to keep me happy .

So I jumped on the AT&T/DirecTV Unlimited data deal and ported my phone today. It all looked normal and I got the activation texts and such - it even populated the nxtgenphone APN info (though it was deselected and I had to select it). Anyway, I've had no data at all. As a test, I switched the APN to phone and data works, but the speeds appear to be much lower than what my wife's iPhone is seeing on the nxtgenphone APN. Anyone got any tips?
I'm running Viper 2.5, latest US unlocked firmware and US unlocked selected as carrier, and it works fine on AT&T other than this......only other thing I can mention is when I select preferred band or whatever it shows WCDMA/GSM and if I change it to WCDMA/GSM/LTE it reverts back for some reason. Any help much appreciated. I've called AT&T and they're like, uh, we don't sell the HTC 10 so can't really help you... grrrrrr.....

I'd suggest ruu to stock us unlocked rom and see if the issue persists.
Or, try clean flash of viper.
I have no issues using US unlocked on AT&T with both stock rom and ice.
Thanks for trying to help. I just finished trying stock RUU and same problem. I'm convinced, as I was before, that this is AT&T's issue. I've read numerous posts this afternoon that because the HTC 10 (and other phones) aren't in their "LTE approved" database, nxtgenphone APN won't work, or it will only give HSPA speeds. Seems like everyone who has resolved it, or didn't run into the issue at all had another AT&T LTE phone they could use for the IMEI on the account, or the rep entered the model as an iPhone or similar to make it work. Really, really frustrating, as they refuse to help me and I'm starting to think I should just terminate in the 14 day window and do T-mobile or Verizon.
I have at&t and everything worked out of the box, I've never been on stock rom, always on Viper I did the unlock and s-off without a sim and never had an issue or called at&t to activate the device I just transferred my sim from my note 4 to the HTC 10, no provisioning issues at all, VOLTE works, LTE is fine as well while on a phone call... No issues... If you need anything to compare let me know

Thanks for replying. They did confirm it was a provisioning issue and they fixed it today. They had to do something different, as the default HTC 10 provisioning and IMEI check didn't fix it even when they tried it a second time, but they were able to adjust something and LTE definitely works now. VoLTE working here, too. Thanks!
Hi everyone!
I just signed up for Public Mobile service. I have a LG G3 D852 which is unlocked. It was on Telus initially, and most recently with Rogers.
Now, when I inserted the PM sim, it says "Network Locked"
I even bought an unlock code but it doesn't work.
So how is this possible? An unlocked phone can get locked again by a sim card? I tried using another active Telus SIM card and get the same message.
Is there a way to get around this?
Thanks!
A quick google search shows that SIM cards can be locked, for which you evidently need a Personal Unblocking Key or PUK.

I don't think this is a SIM-lock problem. The SIM doesn't ask for a personal pin to use the phone.
It looks like a carrier lock issue where the carrier has somehow locked the phone again after it was unlocked in the past.

Hi,
As far as I know, Public Mobile, which was bought by Telus, doesn't work on LG handsets. I'm not 100% sure about this, since it's a bit weird, but you might as well contact them regarding this issue.

No, most any handset with supported gsm bands will work on Public Mobile.
So anyway, ended up flashing stock and unlocked the phone. And then back to Fulmics.

i had a similar problem. after a software update was applied automatically, I lost wifi calling b/c my inserted SIM is not tmobile despite the device being unlocked. So, I inserted a tmobile sim and used ODIN to flash the latest stock firmware, and then i got wifi calling back. I'd test it first with a Tmobile sim (i bought one off ebay) and then restart the device. If that doesn't fix it, you may have to reflash stock firmware like I did.

I had a similar problem and couldn't even find the wi-fi calling option, let alone enable it. Here's how I fixed it: I enabled Bixby and updated it. Then I said "Hey Bixby, enable wi-fi calling..." and not only did Bixby enable it, she located the settings. The setting lives under "Call Settings" which isn't accessible in any other way than by using Bixby (at least from what I can see).
Now wi-fi calling is enabled and I now have a whole host of additional call settings available to me.
Hope this helps.

I'm using a TMobile SIM on the TMobile network. The settings are stock Android (not TMobile) but they can only be accessed by using Bixby. They aren't found by browsing Settings or searching the phone.
I've made several successful WiFi calls since
