Hello, I bought and unlocked a HTC M8 but now I have put my sim in everything apart from there is no data connection, Wi Fi works but not data. When I go to Mobile Data in settings it says "disconnected" and when I go to APN it says " Access Point Name settings are not available for this user" Is this the problem ? Can anyone help figuring how to data connect ?
Thanks
Have you selected your network operator first.

This is one of those things that can be most easily solved by calling your operator. When I got my phone and put in the sim card, I had no data. I called O2 and they guy walked me through the setup. It might be a noob way to solve problems, but it definitely works.

OK great thanks, does it matter that I have a contract and its not the phone I took it out with?

It did not matter for me. I have an unlocked phone and a sim card from O2. O2 is providing me with the service, it's their job to make sure it works. My phone was brand new, so it would be safe to assume that there was nothing special about it. Also, here in Germany I can always return the sim card and void the contract within two weeks after buying it, so the network wants to keep me happy .

Ok, this may be a dumb question, BUT...
Do you have a SIM card in there?
AND,
Do you have a T-mobile account?

lmao, yes and yes
unlimited data plan too and connected to wifi
I had the same problem -- because my SIM was pretty ancient. It was actually a PowerTel SIM (who got bought by VoiceStream who got bought by T-Mobile). Just drop by a T-Mobile store and get a new SIM. It's quick and free.
PS -- In my case, the "My Account" app didn't work, either. It would always say "cannot retreive account information at this time" or something like that. But literally everything else on the device worked fine -- voice, data, SMS, blah blah blah. Even T-Mobile TV.
It was just the stuff that needed specific T-Mobile account information would fail.
Well I have this issue even though I just got a brand new T-mo contract on Thursday so I doubt the sim is ancient?
I realised the problem.
I'm in the UK.....
Call in and add world class roaming for free and wifi calling should work fine

That worked for me. It no longer says invalid SIM!
I didn't even have to call. Just go to settings> wireless&networks> mobile networks> then enable data roaming fixed it for me. Using G2x. This was driving me crazy at first because wifi calling worked fine when i first got phone then after flashing a rom it did not work. This fixed it for me, i know its old post but hope this helps someone else too.

When i wrote my first reply i did not realize this post was for the G2 not the G2x, maybe that's why it didn't work for you, on my G2x international roaming does not need to be on, only national data roaming, i also had to reboot phone after turning roaming on. If this doesn't help i would suggest doing what others have mentioned, call t mobile. Maybe for the G2 the roaming needs to be enabled on t-mobile's side, i really don't know for sure. Good luck, i know how annoying this can be, as i get no cell coverage in my bedroom, so wifi calling is my only option for me. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Hi Everyone.
Stock O2 ICS- rooted - bootloader unlocked
I've recently bought used HTC One V locked to O2. Problem is gsm service never worked for me.
WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS are fine but emergency call only.
I've tried different sim, 2 custom roms, hard reset and no lucky.
Under mobile network setting I cannot swap between WCDMA only - Auto - GSM only, it is sticked to WCDMA/GSM Auto only
When push *#*#4363#*#* Cannot change network mode too, WCDMA preferred fixed only, if going to radio band selection cannot choose any (Automatic, EURO Band etc) just got message "Set [automatic or any] Unsuccessful.
What is weird, When I turn mobile data on with correct APN for my provider (currently giffgaff) I have gprs running and can send and receive data, but with my other phones I had before my service has been alwaysfast as 3G and HSDPA, not "G" like now.
Please see below my screenshots, I've checked my mobile network with many apps and there is what I've found
Ok this may seem a very stupid question but it happened more than once. Are you using the little piece that covers the sim card? That has contacts in it, without it there is no signal

If you still have warranty, run a ruu so it goes back to stock, and take it to the HTC centre. If you are lucky they will recognize it as hardware problem and give you a new one. Remember to tell them it never worked, and if they ask about root or stuff, you don't know about it
No I don't have a warranty (it's second hand and a have no seller contact anymore), otherwise I would not asking here. Looking for somebody who solved this, if.
Hi,
My question is not regarding interet pass through. My question is that on my phone I cannot get my mobile internet working on my phone.
When I try to tick(select) mobile intyerent option on the phone, it doesn't allow me to change that option. I have read the forum on htc website. I believe that the latest software update for this phone model is the cause behind mobile interent not working on the phone.
I want to know, If anything can be done to solve this issue and get back the mobile interent to work on the phone?
May be by degrading (uninstalling) the software update to the previous version. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
Regards,
S

Go and check your Access point name; setting>mobile data>access point name.
if there is no APN , you have to fill up your APN name.

Optus Internet and Optus MMS
Optus Internet is selected and under Optus Internet , the name is "Optus Internet" & and the APN is filled as " yesinternet"
I just got this phone unlocked(originally locked on Vodafone Australia network)
Any other issue that might be causing this problem?

Yes , I am using Optus network sim, but the phone was originally locked to Vodafone network. I unlocked the phone, so now I can use any sim card in it.
I get the GSM signals to make calls, I can use wifi but its just the internet, thats not working. !

If so just asking to your network provider for APN setting. Have you open data roaming?

Yes, data roaming is "ON" mode. I have another phone- HTC DESIRE HD (on which I can use my optus mobile interent) and the settings on HTC ONE X is similar to the one on HTC DESIRE HD.
Was there any issue with the HTC ONE X latest software update(which was available few months back) ???

Yes, I have tried changing the network mode, it was gsm/wcdma then I tried to put it on auto or gsm, then put it back on gsm/cdma.
Also, I have tried searching for manual network and then I get two options - Optus and Virgin(optus network reseller), no matter what I select, the mobile interent doesnt works

We have a Galaxy Note 2 from ATT now. Just upgraded, so we're not using it. We want to take it to Europe to use as a phone and a hotspot for our computers on our trip. I've read that people do that with unlocked Androids and a European SIM.
I was able to unlock the phone with no problem using a data only T-Mobile SIM card in the process. The problem is that I can't turn the Mobile Hot Spot on. I've tried with the valid data only T-mobild SIM installed. When I try to turn the hotspot on, it says that either the network is not available, or there's an invalid SIM. I'm worried that it's the ATT restrictions on the phone that aren't going away even if the phone is unlocked, and there's a different SIM in place.
Does anyone know what we have to do to enable the hotspot, so that this phone can be used in Europe?
Thanks.

Thanks. That looks like a good app to fix problems connecting to external wifi sources. However, I want my phone to BE the wifi source when in Europe. Still looking for a solution.

The thing that sticks out to me is that you actually need the correct Sim card that is provisioned for phone service.. I'm assuming this "data only sim" was provisioned for a tablet and therefore can't make any calls... the network unavailable message will show up even with no Sim installed and trying to enable a hotspot. You need a valid cell service in order to hotspot.
Hope Getting the Right SIM will do it.

Thanks. I hope that's what the problem is. It would make things simpler to be sure. I just didn't want to get there and then find out it wasn't going to work. In the meantime, I found my old Galaxy S 3. I managed to unlock it, root it, and install basic ROM. Thought maybe that would work, as well. I'll know by next week.
hello everybody. i have my m9 from 1&1 (vodafone) germany. and since i back from holidays (i was in another country) i have strange problem with mobile internet connection....

Find a hill to stand on if you're in the countryside, if you are in a city then try outside. If no joy it could be antenna related.
