I was wondering how durable and sturdy the Robin is since it is constructed out of plastic. I was looking a purchasing one for a very low price but it had a crack in the plastic from the bezel to the power button which to me would indicate the the plastic is a little fragile. I'm using a Desire HTC decide right which are mostly plastic but they are very durable. Is the Robin as durable or is it very fragile?
Thanks.

My personal opinion is that the Robin is pretty sturdy, but mine doesn't have a crack in the plastic. I am using a Fosman case and it is very tight so if i did buy the phone I would think that this case would hold it together.
I had a Desire eye for a while. The Nextbit seems similar. If you drop it, it will get a ding, but I don't know that you'll get cracks in the plastic.

Watched Robin -s bend test - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU6Tv-OfXk0 and Robin did fail totally. Maybe this is the main reason for a lot RMA cases, that no external visual damages, but internally something have broken due fully plastic body?

I haven't had a plastic phone properly since my LG Viewty. Not sure I could go back to having a plastic phone
it is plastic. It has metal inside to make it feel comfortable in the hands.
Its plastic and not metal.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Plastic material on the outer shell with a metallic inner frame for support.
It will not be an HTC phone. :/ Let's hope the plastic quality has improved to be a bit more on the durable side.

Yeah. I think that is the main concern. How the phone feels. I had an N1 and went to an HTC Sensation and I like the solid feel.
If the GN is solid, durable (scratch resistant), with a flush feel, I do not think it will feel cheap.

If it feels and acts like the plastics on the HTC N1 and Sensation, then, I'll be happy. That stuff is pretty smooth and soft, yet super scratch resistant and tough as nails.
it looked almost rubbery in the presentations..hmmm
Even though it is plastic, I always felt it solid while holding the Nexus S or the SGS2. I like my phones light so don't mind the plastic and they are durable as well.
Not.
The lateral frame is not in metal. It's plastic :-(

Hi..
Im not sure if anyone else is feeling what I'm feeling, but I'm literally scared to put this phone down on a hard surface... I feel that back camera lense will get scratched quite easily...
At the moment my phone is balancing on a pair of socks...
Somewhat agree - I mean, my Desire was the same, I think I'm just conscious of the fact that this is a gorgeous device and I don't want to mark it in any way.
I have an Oakley sunglasses bag that I rest it on when face up, but mostly I just put it face down. I mean, you can attack the screen with keys and it won't scratch, so I figure face down is the safest. Plus the back of the phone looks so amazing!
Thats a good point.
Looking forward to when Casemate release their cases for this phone. Hopefully that will have some sort of protection for the lense
A day after I received mine, I'd already managed to put a small yet noticeable scratch across the camera's glass surface and its metal rim. That's despite the fact that I don't place it on hard surfaces nor pocket it without the use of the official pouch. Though I'm thinking it might be a factory defect, it can't be stressed enough how vulnerable that particular area of the device is.
Have a scratch on the metal rim also, very small but yeah on a brandnew device..

I'm exactly the same. It's a bit frustrating to think they put all that effort into giving us the Gorilla glass 2 on the screen, extra strong plastic on the case and an easily damaged camera lens that protrudes from the back. Go figure.
It wouldn't have been quite as bad if they'd recessed the glass lens so that it's less likely to come into contact with any surfaces.
I hope those socks are clean!
Also have a scratch on mine, just by the rim. Didnt think anything of it before getting the phone but it is badly thought out imo. I would have rather the phone be a little thicker and the lense/glass better protected than it is. Ah well...

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is slightly recessed - by looking at pictures I don't know if it is recessed enough to properly prevent scratches, though.

I applied a cut-out of the original HTC screen protector on the lens and can't see any reduction of image quality ... Hopefully it protects the lens ...

It is recessed? Crikey, I can't see or even feel it. The surfaces most likely to scratch it are probably rough enough to reach the glass despite the microscopic recess
I bought a White Frosted Gel case. If I put the phone on a flat surface the lens is protected by the case. That is if you want a case
using an adhesive 16mm rooundpad
On the cam of the 1S the lens is slightly recessed. Unfortunately not on the 1X.
I put an anti sliding, anti vibrating pad for soundspeakers on top of of it. Sticks during daily use like a charm and is removed and put back for filming in seconds.
Yeah, really simple but effective
Edit: No way I am hiding this beast in a pouch. It shall shine and chime. The pouches are for my daughters
Hmm it is actually fractionally recessed, like a fraction of a mm. But not enough that if there was a bit of grit on the table, it wouldn't catch it. Also the plastic lens surround (silver finish), is not the same quality as the polycarbonate. So yes, it screams "scratch me" which is a bit silly considering the rest of the phone. You would actually be better to put it face down than face up on a table, but then you can't see the screen! Doh!
For those with the white phone, you could consider HTC HC C700 clip on back cover. It is basically translucent so you can still see the back through it, but it stupidly doesn't have the cut-out holes for the forthcoming docks. For that you will need HTC HC C740 clip on covers which don't have a see-through version! *sigh*
Have a look at the pouches thread in the accessories,I got a nice HTC side flip case phone still feels great in hand but the.plastic back is just enough so you can put it down and the lense does not touch the surface

I have a few scratches on my rear camera window and was considering replacing it with a sapphire crystal window as i did on my desire a couple of years ago.
I've just noticed you can buy the Cover on eBay here.

So if i bought the cover and a piece of sapphire to fit from here.

I thought it would make a good upgrade, what do we think?
If you think you got the expertise and nimble fingers to do a good job then go for it I say.
If you're not sure whether you can do a decent job (not trying to insult or anything) then I wouldn't bother
Edit: if you do do it, it would be great if you could post some pictures of the steps of what you did, I'm sure there's a lot of people who would consider this for hox if it turns out well..

This is going to the next level though, sapphire is real hard on mohs scale AFAIK its way harder than gorilla glass. Expensive I guess, but with the design of the camera lens, having a sapphire one would reduce scratches a lot, and be a more permanent, professional solution

Well today was the 1st time in about 2 weeks since buying my uag that i took the case off. And immidiately i noticed and the upper left corner there were scratches. I have a pretty good suspicion its from pressing the power button which then rubs the case agsinst the metal. You dont notice it when the case is on but this is redicilous. Definitely maked me angry i paid $35 for a case that ended up damaging my phone. Anyone else having this issue?

What do we learn from this? The black One is better protected when it's naked than when it's in the case

Ouch that looks really bad! Anyone else with a Silver One get scratches because of their UAG case?
Nope, not a single scratch anywhere on my black One. I took my UAG completely off to check. Man this phone does feel great without a case, though!
No scratches or smudges on my silver one with my UAG case. Honestly, the black one scratches so easily that I wouldn't blame the case, I'd blame HTC for a design flaw. Especially because there are other cases that are known to scratch the black one. The official case from HTC has identical complaints. These scratches are the main reason why I decided to keep my silver one vs going with the black. The black iPhone 5 has similar issues.

these types of coatings really should be a bit more exotic...something like DLC which is incredibly hard and very resilient to scratches - i know because my watch is black DLC.
in terms of design they edges arent all that sharp but they could use a slightly bigger round in a few places for DLC to be safe.
DLC - diamond like carbon.
I had black iphone 5 naked and my wedding ring scratched the hell out of it in just one day. Just purchased this case as well, seeing this is disappointing but luckily i have the silver one. Usually i try to get two individual layer cases with much softer inner layer for this exact reason, but these cases usually are a little bulkier. thanks for the heads up though.

All I am saying is that if a soft rubber/TPU case is scratching the finish on a METAL phone, I just don't see how that can be the case's fault.
I just put mine on today. I'll check it often to make sure it isn't scratching.
Could it be because some dirt was on the phone when you put the case on? I really hope this doesn't happen due to a design flaw
My $.02
I had this case with my GS3 and it's not rough, and I don't think it's the case that's scratching your phone. I think it's the junk that just stuck in between the case and the phone. This can happen with any case, and it does. I always take my phone out of it's case every few days to clean the phone and the case. All it takes is one tiny piece of something rough to get in there and F*** everything up.
It sucks that it happened but I don't think it's the material that the case is made out of. I am still planning on getting this case.

If there's some defect in the case then probably. But I doubt it's the case. He most likely had some gunk in the case. Take one tiny spec of sand and place it between your case and your phone and that one tiny piece will jack your stuff up. I don't see how that piece of dirt/sand is UAG's responsibility unless they have some kind of "no dirt on the inside guarantee" which they dont.
I own a Black HTC One and two UAG cases that I swap out often and not a single scratch at all. It's not HTCs fault or UAG, the OP must of gotten sand or some other hard particle underneath that scratched it up.
I put the case on right out the package. Cleaned the phone pretty good. The case is very snug so its really hard to get dirt in there. Also i bought it directly from uag so its not a knock off. I honestly dont know what did it but i remember before i even saw the marks when hittin the power button i always thought it was odd how the whole case kinda pushed down.

1 month of use, and no scratches
Just wanted to post this item as I have just received one and I will say that it is pretty much perfect for what I wanted.
It is nicely packaged, includes extra screws and protects the corners while being extremely light and maintaining the One's premium feel.
It does NOT protect the back side, even on a table. This is fine for me as all I really care about is denting the corners. Also the power button takes a bit getting used to hitting as it is recessed, but there is no way around this with this design.
It took almost 3 weeks to get here and I will probably order a spare silver one.
I have attached some pics for you.
Enjoy

I'm from the school of thought that A. we destroy the original engineering as little as possible B. some scratching, scuffing is reasonable wear and tear on an item. So, I do no see any point in using a back cover. Like I said, I have dropped the phone 3 times and dented the top corners and it has create a small gap on one corner so I think it's important to protect the corners. For me I also have accidental warranty so if I smash the screen it's only $100 to get a replacement.
The feel of this phone is too nice to ruin it with plastic film.
Looks nice, does it add much weight to the phone and how easy is it to install and finally would it okay with a glass protector?

My question as well. Would this fair okay with the spigen glas.tr protector?
I have held one in hand and it is quite light, feel like it doesn't add much weight if any at all, definitely not very noticeable from what I thought. Also very easy to install. Just curious about the glass screen protector.

Dead simple install and is is VERY light. It is honestly the best IMHO. As for your Screen protector, I can't see why it wouldn't, unless the screen protector extends past the bezel.
about back protector = I would say it realldy depends on what kind of protection you need.
If keeping your device brand new and shiny for as long as possible, you should definitely get one. Otherwise, if a few scratches or wear marks are acceptable to you it is not something you have to consider. However I've always been a user of screen protectors as they are barely visible if applied correctly - and keep your device's value at its best if you plan to resale it someday.
I have tested many protections (incipio feather shine, dual pro, belkin, urban armor gear and finally this aluminium bumper.
I would not recommend this last one for daily use, as IMHO it really does not offer drop protection (shock absorbtion is not one of aluminium blends's characteristics) and prevent the screen to shatter in case you drop it from pocket height. For this reason I will stick with dual pro or UAG cases. But if you're really careful with your device, and just looking for small amount of protection and no bulk addition, then this might be the perfect one for you.
...oh, and I can confirm it adds not weight at all.

I've got it and I think it does so I took it out. Not sure if it goes for everyone but from my experience it does. Especially when I was using WiFi at home when I didn't have the bumper case my WiFi signal was always full bar but soon as I put it on it fluctuates between 2 and 3 bars.
