hi everyone,
with the number of occurrences of the lg g4 bootloop, i become paranoid that one day my g4 will experience it.
is there a way to deliberately damage my g4 software so i can claim before the warranty run out?
Flash wrong KDZ?

have not thought that, if my phone die because root can i still claim warranty?

Nope.
Guys like you are the reason why manufacturers are doing the bootloader locking or using qfuse.
my g4 with sn 505 is known very risky to bootloop , I just do not want my phone to be exposed to bootloop before warranty period end.
I have 506 and I'm in the same boat like you but damaging it on purpose to claim warranty is wrong.
If it happens after warranty time the only thing you could do is ask LG to repair it because it's a known problem.
If it happens to me I will try to fix it myself bybacking the motherboard in the oven (no joke!!!).
It doesn't matter if it works or not LG will be on my list of manufacturers I will never again buy from.
So far on this list is Samsung, Sony, and probably LG.
The bootloop issue is due to hardware, not software. I believe any issues caused by software is not under warranty.
And what would damaging the software help anyway? They will just reflash the correct firmware and done. Maybe they will exchange it, but I highly doubt it.
My g4 came with 2 year warranty and I had it for 6 months, no trouble whatsoever, in fact I love it. If the boot loop issue occurs within the next 18 months then warranty deals with that. If not then I will be upgrading to a newer phone anyway, so really no need to worry it's a win win situation me thinks
I have unlocked my bootloader and rooted my device (H815, s/n 506*, EU); and therefore LG does not want to repair my LG G4 under warranty.
Can I repair it myself, maybe replace the motherboard or something? Does anyone really know what the exact problem is? Where should I get replacement parts?
You need to just put it back to stock then call back and don't mention that it was ever rooted. It doesn't matter if it was or not anyway.

yes replace MB yourself or use the modded TOT to use only 4 cores and big cores disabled

Mbs are about 200 dollars american. A little pricy in my opinion but one of the most simple setups ive ever seen
You can try all the methods mentioned above, have it fixed in a repair shop (they'll re-solder the flash chip) or even put it in the oven. But it won't help. It'll only work temporarily.
yep !Buy new mainboard and then replace .
BUt EU 2 year !!
If well know hardvwre issu i think lg don't refuse repair!!!Kick the frakking table mate good luck! see this:

@kabirjedi unlocking your bootloader do indeed void your warranty. He cannot do anything with it and link you posted is about installing CFW or rooting fw alone.
From my observations the processor is the only problem, more accurately, the two faster cortex a57 cores. Some how they broke hence the phone cannot be booted up as it returns that them 2 cores are unavailable. Thats why this tot method works.

Congratz on your 666th post
I agree with that it SHOULDN'T void warranty, but sadly it does and AFAIK in Poland no one managed to get it fixed for free with unlocked bootloader, even if this EU law was mentioned. I dont know how they manage to overwrite Eu laws but they sure know how to confuse the customer and leave him with 1600PLN bill (price for repair outside of warranty)
Luckly I just had unbranded FW + root + xposed without having bootloader unlocked so they replaced mobo without any problems.
Anyway I wish you best of luck in your case, OP. Do what @kabirjedi suggested, perhaps you will have more luck in your country
the way i see it. is no matter what phone is defective. i dont think a phone because of unlock bootloader will bootloop. it will brick for sure so they are very different things . but LG sees this a potential to make bootloop more easily affected. thats non sense.. theres phones like S2 running great G2 with bootloader unlocked running great.. this is hardware no sofware... maybe heat plays a role...only way i see it can trigger it is overclocking it... but if you unlock and debloat phone should runs better with less apps that are crap.. one exmaple is disable logd.. that helps the CPU.

Time and time again it has been confirmed that this has nothing to do with bootloader being locked or unlocked. This is manufacturing issue that was firstly acknowledged when they recalled all Sprint models with 505xxx S/N but other providers/suppliers ignored it and carried on selling faulty devices just to meet sales targets. Make sales first and worry about the potential issues later is the common practice nowadays. For the suppliers it was always the possibility of either developing the bootloop or not. For LG replacing just motherboards still means a sold device at the end of the day. And don't worry in this competitive market companies do anything to meet the sales targets... Headaches for us -> small inconvenience for LG.
On reddit people suggested resoldering the CPU, I might give that a shot.
Hi, just bought a second hand g4 with serial number starting 509 will the phone possibly bootloop? Also the phone is the Taiwan model and I currently live in the UK, will having the Taiwan model cause any problems? Thanks
It may Bootloop it may not. There is no definite answer. You may have problems with a non EU model in the EU. They may fix it or may not. You have to ask an LG service centre about this.

If you ask if 509 is prone to Bootloop issue I think it is. Most bootloops happened on 505 though but the general consensus is the newer G4 you have the less chances for bootloop. Again there is no definite answer. We do not know the dirty details. We don't know which S/N is safe and if LG fixed the problem and from which S/N and after they did. We purely rely on public reports to draw conclusions. Up until now 6xx seems safe with only 1 or 2 ppl reported a bootloop on Reddit. Just make a backup and keep your data on the SD card. If you get a bootloop contact LG. They seem to be aware of the issue and fixing all broken phones even out of warranty some times.

yes theres a high chance it may bootloop.. and no UK wont repair your phone.. you must shipped to the country you got it from .. i say return. and get a phone with 6xx serial number.. there less reports with those serial numbers..
maybe @jinderation can chime in... hear hes story.

I'm in the UK and have the same problem - a bootlooping TWN H815. It was purchased used last year, so no receipt or warranty card. I was wondering whether you had explored paying LG for an out-of-warranty repair? At this stage I'm looking at the best way of cutting my losses.

In US cost of repairs alone is 200US$ cuz of morherboard replacement either that or which u can get a used g4 at the same price so even if ur bootloops there is no point of fixing it....all i can say for u is to wait for atleast an year after the bootloop so the prices fall down for repairs....there is no way u can send it to taiwan also there is no warranty n recepit thats only even if u have a friend there...
Avoiding heat
Hi all am in same boat. Got a EU H815 an 506 hw1.0 and until a week ago had never heard about bootloop issue. I've had unlocked bootloader, rooted with custom ROMs nearly whole ownership and as a result have never had any heat up issues. After reading 100s of pages of the issue my conclusion is that it seems to be heat that affects a soldered component which eventually fails. So based on this theory I'm using Kernel Adiutor to control the throttling when CPU temp gets >55degc. It is only an educated guess but does seem logical. Hope it helps others

Seems like the issue calmed down over the winter in the northern hemisphere. And now that the summer is in full bloom people are looping like crazy. Im hoping between being almost as far north as one gets in usa. So like 85 far. Is blazing here. Plus me doing the thermal mod im keeping my device cool enough to make it as i have no waranty so a mb replacement costs me about 200 dollars american.
I have a s6 and a couple other mid range devices. I wont hesitate to toss my g4 in the trash. I got mine on a trade in from my g3 i only paid like 150 for my g4 so nope not me. Unless i get one cheap.
If this was an automobile this would be a recall i dont understand why these devices arent recalled.
I saw a news cast talking about how they make devices so cheap and breakable "for the economy" why would u buy the newest devices out if your old ones are running quite perfectly they say. So this is for economic reasoning. So go ahead lg keep making s****y devices i will buy a new one but not from you.
Yea i want a g5 but i wont give more that 100 bucks for it in the fear of failure.
Like i said keep it up lg seal your economic fate........

Hi, my G4 had bootloop recently, motherboard was changed under the warranty. New motherboard was made in 04/2018. Is it known if newer motherboards still have a bootloop issues?
I cannot found any relevant informations. Maybe because nobody already have this old phone

they are all bad as far as i know. And yes, nobody has this phone as its later revisions bootlooped after warranty and its more expensive to repair this piece of crap than what it is worth even after repairing.
I have my bootlooped G4 in a drawer since 1 year ago.
I have a phone that's never bootlooped
Hello everyone,
A friend of mine had an issue with his G4, the Cpu pin melting problem, so his phone got stuck in an infinite bootloop and after trying everything to resolve it the only way out was to change the motherboard.
Now my question is, knowing the h815 still got this probelm, we found a cheap h818 MB, will it fit correctelly in a phone designed for the h815? Like will it work and perfom the same?
Thanks in advance for your answers .
I tried to replace the H815 board with H818P board (screen cracked), but the display of the original H815 didn't work (no backlight) ...
Thanks for replying, anyone else can relate?
I am upping this.
Please anyone i really need to know before buying one !
lol ! this is a forum full of developers, not mechanics !!!
also h818 has only a few support, only the single sim g4 has big support.
And who can say for sure YES ?
And if the motherboard has any issues ? Then what ? you are gonna log back in here and spit on us ? haha
Anyway, ask this an experienced mechanic.
Chill dude wtf?
Posting bull**** like this really wont help, stop playing the smarty around the forum, someone may have been trought the same case as me and could have the answer so whats wrong asking? Coming back spitinf if it dosent work? Thats your kind, not me.
I have tried twice swapping LG H810 (single SIM) board with LG H818P (Dual sim). But none of them work, LED just blinking green, screen off. It will charge to full, but with dead screen. Suddenly, the phone ringing and buzzing by itself.
I think they're not compatible.
The problem could be lies in the daughter board I guess, well i havent tried swapping the lower parts of the backside cover where the daughterboard is
The H818 is one of the only LG G4 boards that cannot be bootloader unlocked officially or unofficially (it can be unlocked with steadfasterX's UsU method but the screen touch function is lost, rendering the phone useless except as a fancy paper weight). So if being able to have a custom recovery like TWRP or being able to install a custom rom like LineageOS is important, it's not a good option whatsoever. Recommend you pass on it.
Hello guys i've been seeing a lot of boot loop news and lg starting to refund people because they don't have spare parts : http://www.mobilechoiceuk.com/News/...offering-refunds-instead-of-replacements.aspx .
So should I be worried that my 5x will boot loop ? I've been using it for 2 months now on 7.0 september update .
just yesterday happened to mine!
Did you try to fix it or got it refunded under warranty ? Also rooted or stock with update ?
Hi, i guess that nobody could know that, but the problem seems to be the same as LG G4, LG V10, LG Flex 2 (all 2015 devices with almost the same motherboard that the Nexus 5x). You can search on the web "bootloop G4 reddit" "nexus 5x bootloop reddit" and you will find tons of reports, the majority of them (N5x) from last 3 months, and this holds the theory that is a welding issue on the CPU or sometimes on the EMMC chip (apparently LG did not weld very well that year...). The mentioned devices (included ours) seem to last from 9 to 14 months and finally the welding breaks. But now, we know it's strictly a HARDWARE issue NOT caused by 7.0 upgrade, irt's only a question of coincidence between the useful life of the weld and the launch of the 7.0 OTA.
So we all got very high possibilities that this occurs to our devices, eventually. I'm not sure that this is gonna happen to you, it really dependes of many many many factors (heavy usage, kernel profiles, temperature of your country/city/house/workplace, etc etc).
Maybe it never happens to you, but i know what you feel, is not very nice to feel that your phone could die in any moment. It was a low punch for me (i owned a G4 and it bootlooped twice) anyway i am going to sell my N5x due to this problem. Hope i help you with my point of view.
It is solder not weld.
Only Google/LG know how widespread the problem is on 5x.
My guess is it is far more than normally expected for phones but nowhere near as prevalent as posts on forums might make it seem.
So normally you might expect .01% of these types of solder problems. If the problem went up 100x to 1% and you sold 3m phones, that means 30,000 phones with the problem, whereas before you might only see 300.
30,000 people searching google and seeing other people posting about bootloop can start a panic.
If you actually had 10, 20, 30% of people with this problem you would have huge threads.
That's just my opinion.

If you said "It is solder not weld." for me, thanks i didn't know the correct word, english is not my native language (I only learn reading on forums), so i see that you know (or it seems) about solder problems. Look i had two LG G4 both of them die, but not just mine even a cousin had the same issue whit his G4, so i really want to know if you think that the 5x soldering problem is a similar case of high-end 2015 LG Phones G4/V10/FLEX2 (of that magnitude)? or if it's just a "paranoia", i mean we know that the bootlooping issue on this device exists but you would recommend me (i really like this phone) to keep it?
This issue got me really worried due to my bad experiencie with the G4. I just bought the N5x 1 month ago. thank you.

I've been dealing with substandard solder since xbox RROD (red ring of death) where everyone was trying to get their xbox cpu reballed until microsoft admitted the problem.
As I mentioned, I'm sure the incident on 5x is much higher than normal phones, but that might still be a low % (even though it is a relatively high absolute # because of the # of phones that are sold)
I have no idea whether 5x is worse, better, or same as G4 problem. G4 seemed even higher, but could be because more phones were sold. Only LG knows for sure.
A lot of folks in US are finding that their credit card actually extends their warranty beyond manufacturers warranty and people will probably get their money back that way if all else fails.
Of course that doesn't help you if you are traveling and the phone dies. I end up using Google Fi as the service provider for this phone, so if that happened I could just shift all the calls and texts to another phone or tablet and keep going until I get a replacement phone, so I'm not super worried.
I regularly back up the stuff on my phone so the most I would lose is like 1 or 2 days of stuff, which I can deal with.
Personally I wouldn't be super worried this is going to happen to you, but be prepared with backups in case it does, but that is good practice for any phone, because it could always get stolen or drop and break.

Well from what I know if you don't have warranty paper then you can't get warranty by just showing the phone . Its not a 100% chance that it will boot loop I think , but if your not safe with it I suggest selling it working rather than looking for help when broken . Thats just my point of view .

Well I think i have the same point of view to sell the phone working rather that having a paper holder . At least for me its the most logical thing to do maybe the chance isn't high for it to happen but I am not secure with a tought that my phone could die + im a heavy user so i migh make it to the boot loop faster .

Well I don't know if there is or not but from what I know about the problem its random af , so I don't think there is unless only some motherboards are prone to the defect but I think it involves all , just happens randomly . Not 100% sure tho !
