Change LG G4 motherboard h815 to h818 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
A friend of mine had an issue with his G4, the Cpu pin melting problem, so his phone got stuck in an infinite bootloop and after trying everything to resolve it the only way out was to change the motherboard.
Now my question is, knowing the h815 still got this probelm, we found a cheap h818 MB, will it fit correctelly in a phone designed for the h815? Like will it work and perfom the same?
Thanks in advance for your answers .

I tried to replace the H815 board with H818P board (screen cracked), but the display of the original H815 didn't work (no backlight) ...

Thanks for replying, anyone else can relate?

I am upping this.
Please anyone i really need to know before buying one !

lol ! this is a forum full of developers, not mechanics !!!
also h818 has only a few support, only the single sim g4 has big support.
And who can say for sure YES ?
And if the motherboard has any issues ? Then what ? you are gonna log back in here and spit on us ? haha
Anyway, ask this an experienced mechanic.

Chill dude wtf?
Posting bull**** like this really wont help, stop playing the smarty around the forum, someone may have been trought the same case as me and could have the answer so whats wrong asking? Coming back spitinf if it dosent work? Thats your kind, not me.

I have tried twice swapping LG H810 (single SIM) board with LG H818P (Dual sim). But none of them work, LED just blinking green, screen off. It will charge to full, but with dead screen. Suddenly, the phone ringing and buzzing by itself.
I think they're not compatible.
The problem could be lies in the daughter board I guess, well i havent tried swapping the lower parts of the backside cover where the daughterboard is

The H818 is one of the only LG G4 boards that cannot be bootloader unlocked officially or unofficially (it can be unlocked with steadfasterX's UsU method but the screen touch function is lost, rendering the phone useless except as a fancy paper weight). So if being able to have a custom recovery like TWRP or being able to install a custom rom like LineageOS is important, it's not a good option whatsoever. Recommend you pass on it.

Some questions regarding LG G4

Should I buy the H818 version? What are the differences between H815 and H818?
Is there any difference between H818N and H818P ?
What should I do to prevent the "bootloop issue"?
What should I know before buying the phone?
-there's no huge difference between H818N(hong kong)/P(indonesia,ukraine,etc) ,both are dual sim (i don't like dual sim at all)
-you cannot prevent the 'bootloop issue' since nobody knows which phones are having (try to get one with S/N 600+)
-make sure you get a brand new phone with warranty ,because if that bootloop issue will happen ,you are screwed w/o warranty
-overall ,if you like an amazing camera(i just love how can i play with manual mode) ,a faster phone, great download/upload speed,no problems with data ,go get one ,if you are buying for gaming ,don't.
-i just got one ,and i love it . Hope it helps
Thanks a lot. Is it not possible to fix the bootloop issue anyhow without getting it to warranty? Can normal servicing stores fix it?
you cannot fix it ,unless you have your own phone service and know things about hardware problems (bootloop issue is caused by hardware problem, maybe because of overheating and losing connection between some pieces on motherboard).
According to LG company ,they started to fix this problem by repairing all the phones with this issue. If you have warranty is ok (if you don't root the phone and mess it up) you won't pay anything ,if you don't have warranty,we all know that is gonna cost and is worthless.

LG G4 NOT stuck in bootloop but not booting past LG logo [goes off]

Hi all, ok tonight/this morning at work while on my break i went to do my usual thing of having food and watching a tv show via cartoon hd about 2mins in and my phone switched off.....now i thought it was dead so plugged in the charger but no led light, or screen on to say its charging.....i did a bit of googling and find out about the bootloop thingy buuuuut mines not looping, its swtiching on to the LG logo [i did the bootloader unlocker thingy etc so it says tha in the top corner] then it goes off.......i also get pulsing blue led lights too.....if i press, hold the power button after i get nothing, i have to take the battery out and then its rinse and repeat
Hi,
Same thing happened to me today. I was taking a shot and it switched off and same scenario. It seems that we had encountered an bootloader brick in which our device enters in some special bootloader mode in which when you connect it to the computer in the device manager it shows up as Qhsusb_bulk. I read the whole internet and there is a similar brick with G3 the guys were able to fix it. Even there is a tutorial on how to do this which I think is applicable to our device. I was able to install the required drivers and etc. but there is one big problem - I followed the guide and came into one serious problem - we need a special mbn file so we can recover our device and the sad thing is nobody on the internet doesn't have it still. There are many people like us who got selfbricked G4 and cannot fix it without this file. Please if somebody can help us please share the file so we can fix our devices. THANK YOU !

I have the issue. I don't do anything special but my phone reboot and stuck on lg logo. But now my phone doesn't want to boot. Sometimes he detect when I'm trying to charge it but often not. Yesterday I boot on download mode and recovery but today it's impossible... I think I have some hardware issue ? Or software with the bootloader...
I don't know how to fix that without access to download/recovery mode :crying:
Same here. Sometimes it boots into recovery/download but most of the times it doesn't. It's a hardware problem I think as LG officially confirmed that there were problems during the building proccess of the first G4 series. I don't want to sound bad but soon or later all phones built before october last year will get into bootloop. I was hoping it won't happen to me - I'm very light user with only light standart apps with no games and other heavy stuff, so the problem wasn't caused by overheating by heavy multitasking. Anyway it happened and I'm pretty sure it's harware related but if somebody can provide the tot and mbn files I will be more than happy to try the g2/g3 unbrick method. The main problem is that these files are not available for h815. I found on other forum tot files for other variants than h815 So if somebody have the tot filesfor h815 please share so we can try to unbrick our G4. Thanks!
same thing heppened to my g4 this week. i called lg last night and they agreed to repair it. i'd just gave them a call.
I sent mine for repair today. I hope they will agree to repare it even that it's with unlocked bootloader and with rooted custom rom !!! What you think ? Will I have problems with them because of that ?
Happened with my phone as well. It was rooted so i was hella scared if they didn't accept my phone. But soon they told me phone's motherboard has gone bad and will be replaced. Got my phone with a brand new motherboard after a couple of hours.
P.s. all your data will be gone

So the same problem just happened to my lg H815 with unlocked bootloader, am really f***ed without my phone, gonna call LG UK tomorrow, anything in particular I should say? also looking for solutions I saw many people are starting to have this issue now too - any official comments from LG?
P.S. if you have an LG G4 you should start backing up all your data now
This literally just happened in the last 15 minutes to me as well. Random reboot right after I woke up the phone and now stuck on the LG splash screen. Light user here, never did anything with the phone that would have heavily stressed it physically or computing-wise, so I also concur it's an inevitability for earlier runs of G4 phones.
Luckily, I backed up everything through TWRP last Thursday by chance because I was updating Xposed to the latest version and swapping to a faster 128GB microSDXC. At worst, I might have lost a handful of unimportant text messages.
Not worth the time to try to figure out any cheap fixes myself, I just got done submitting a repair request to LG.
I ordered LG G4 H815 and I hope to not see any kind of these issues

My Lg G4 H811 unlocked went into bootloop after one year of usage, i tried hard reset but in vain, than i went for this method described on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM9umec5aeo (since comments were positive for this) involving keeping hot cloth iron/press over motherboard. But after this my phone is dead, I don't know whether the iron did something with motherboard
Now what are options with me, can replacing Just replace EMMC can recover or motherboard needs to be replaced?

As always everything you do is on your own risk.

I bought a used one for cheap because it had screen fading problem. I knew I could fix it and now I have working G3! Basically you need to put pressure on the RAM chip because it lost some solder connections to the soc. I recommen using something thermally conductive.

Should I buy an LG G4 Today?

Hi, I was recently thinking about changing my phone so thought of buying the LG G4. A guy near my place is selling it. I have also heard about the bootloop issue. Although the phone was working fine on his shop, should I still buy the phone? Are there any special conditions under which the phone goes into the bootloop so I can test it either using a stress test tool or playing a demanding game before buying? Please, I need some help!
Thanks,
Asbaat

from with serial number on back starting with 601 are less likely to bootloop the higher the number the better. lower then be cautuious.
if you dont care LG not giving nougat officialy. and poor battery. go ahead but also make sure its one of the unlockable bootloaders
search for list of lg g4 that can be nootloader unlocked.
if all okey go ahead has nice camera and unofficial beta N its nice. but official would be better.

Thank you for your reply, can you kindly tell why buying an unlockable bootloader device is necessary? Also, if the device is 601 and it still goes into a bootloop, will there be any solution to this except repairing the motherboard stuff?
Thanks,

Read the bootloop fix it list in my signature.
Buying a device which can be unlocked is absolutely necessary to fully enjoy that phone plus you can do some adjustments regarding bootloop only when unlocked.

unlocked bootloader you can flash other roms stock based or aosp.
you can install kernek and tune it for performance or battery.
its unknown if it will bootloop but is less likely to happen. from 601 upwards.
also see wht my friend steadfasterX says read hes the man. he knows more then i do.
as long as it is 811 or 815...and 601 or newer serial number...its still worth to buy it
No. I haven't had bootloops on my 602 but have still had problems.
No knock on to wake. (replace screen to fix)
Micro usb port worn out and can only be replaced be re-soldering.
Random notification led blinking. (restart wifi to fix)
No updates.
Still could get a bootloop.
How to determine if phone bootloader can be unlocked? thx
