Help needed: Cannot dismiss 'Voicemail: A new version is available' notification - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This annoying notification has appeared in the past, but I have always been able to dismiss it. Now, nothing I have tried has worked:
Allowed automatic updates and clicked 'Update now'
Uninstall updates
Restore from Titanium Backup
Forced Stop various applications
My phone is on the Sprint network. The OS is version 5.0.1, the phone is rooted, but stock ROM. The current voicemail is version T.6.0.1.22.
Can you please help me either a) figure out how to get the latest version to install (note that I have disabled quite a few of the built in apps, but I do not believe this is the reason for the app's not updating) or b) how to make the notification go away.
Thank you.

BusyBox & WiFi what's going on?

I've twice had to restore a Nandroid. BusyBox says there's an update. It's the same version as installed. Thinking update notification will go away if I update (same Version). Then my WiFi doesn't work. What's going on with BusyBox notifing about this nonexsistent/same version update? And it breaking WiFi?
Can you give me some information about the problem you are having? I manage the Busybox application on the market and I am trying to figure out why it is breaking WIFI for some...It is not happening for me so I am not sure what is causing the problem. Also, I had to do a few updates to the market today because of some bug fixes and nullpointer exceptions I introduced.
Hi Stericson
He is not alone ... Please have a look in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373661
Well I check the Android Market. BusyBox has an "update" available. I start the install & it's the same & current version installed already. If I backup & out of the update everythings ok. Except the update keeps showing up in the Android Market.
If I accept & install the "update", the update notification in the Android Market disappears. But my WiFi fails to connect. And after a couple minutes the WiFi stops trying to connect & turns itself off.
Btw I'm running CM7.1 signed.

Bootloop on 6.0.1 after disabling Google App - but it used to work

I've had a Nexus 7 (2013) for a couple of years, which I kept with locked bootloader, unrooted, stock ROM etc. in all that time. Early on, when it came with 4.something, I disabled the "Google Search" app, in order to remove the search bar from the home screen. This worked fine, and through several OTA updates of 5.x and up to 6.0.1. The search bar was not present in all those versions.
However, just yesterday I decided I wanted to unlock the bootloader and root it, which I did with Wugfresh NRT. I did a "adb backup" first (while bootloader still locked), unlocked bootloader (which factory reset the device as expected), rooted, then restored the backup. This all went fine, although a few apps seemed to have still lost their settings despite restoring the backup, but nothing I can't cope with.
At this point I noticed that the search bar had come back. I searched and found the solution now was to disable the "Google App" (as opposed to "Google Search" in 4.x). As soon as I did that, I found my tablet going into a bootloop, alternating between the Android animation and optimising apps.
Searching around, this seems to be a common complaint with 6.0.1. I realise I can fix the bootloop by dirty flashing a system.img, that's not a problem - the question is what do I do next to disable the search bar, as I had it disabled fine before in 6.0.1.
For example, what was different between my previous state, where I had no search bar in 6.0.1 after disabling the "Google Search" app in 4.x and going through lots of OTA updates, compared to the state where I tried to disable "Google App" in the "new" 6.0.1?
I presumably could downgrade to an older version of Android, disable "Google Search" and go through all the upgrades after that and probably all would be well, but it seems like there should be a simpler way.
I realise I can change launcher, but I'd rather not. I had things just as I wanted them in 6.0.1 with stock launcher and no search bar, and if possible, I'd like them again!
Any advice?
For now I've worked around the problem (which is probably what most people do) by changing to a different launcher. But still, I did use to have the stock launcher minus the Google search bar, and it would be nice to get that again.

Update issue

Attempting to update my N7 to apply the latest Android updates. It is rooted, but standard Android and was on 6.0.1 MMB29K and I've managed to get it to MMB29V by using Flash Fire and doing incremental downloads/updates, but it refuses to go any further. FF goes through all the motions of looking like it is doing something, but the device always ends up still on MMB29V.
Where am I going wrong?
Thanks for all your help with that one, much appreciated.
Now for my next trick. When I go into Settings, tap About Tablet and then System Update the settings app crashes. Also, I have never had my apps set to auto update in the Play Store, but that setting changed on its own and updated everything in the background without my knowing. I have not been into the Play Store settings in months (years?) and could not have accidentally toggled this back on, so how did that happen? This is an immense irritation, as I like to dictate when to update things!

How do I prevent OTA updates?

A couple hours ago my phone with unlocked bootloader, twrp and magisk root installed an OTA update without me initiating it. This failed and the phone was stuck in twrp recovery and couldn't boot until I flashed a stock rom through fastboot and restored my backups.
Now I want to prevent this from happening again. How do I block the phone from checking for OTA updates?
I will have to install them manually anyway so the OTA checking is not helpful.
Same thing happened to me except I was dumb enough to try and install myself the update... You can install Titanium Backup and freeze the Motorola Update app. Also, you can go under dev options and disable automatic updates (this alone didn't work for me).
How to prevent OTA updates, without root, please?
I followed this guide, the method 4 worked for me when my phone was rooted.
http://www.droidviews.com/disable-ota-notifications-android-devices/
With help from the Google, I finally recalled how I'd done it in the past.
Initially, I thought rooting would stop OTA updates, but that may have been prior to Marshmallow or with SuperSU.
This time, I used Titanium Backup (must be rooted) to freeze the MOTOROLA UPDATE SERVICE app.
As soon as it was frozen, the OTA notification disappeared from the notification bar and I gave not seen it return, for a couple days.
Yay! I didn't want to go beyond the stock firmware version that is available and I really didn't want Oreo.
Another way is to use a firewall app.
Also you can just add Motorola's address to your 'host' file to block it
Im the opposite, I want the notifications, without the automatic installation.
Wonder if I changed the permissions of the folder the updates download to, would that prevent automatic install?
also, there is an option in developer options, to turn off OTA.

Minor issues

Hi there. I'm new to Xiaomi/MIUI and would appreciate any help with the following issues.
Mi 10T – Global Stable 12.0.8 – stock launcher – MIUI optimization ON – de-bloated with ADB
I can't see how much storage space is being taken up by each installed app/package. They all show a "0" value.
I can't find Running Services under Developer Options.
I can't permanently disable usage access for System Launcher. It re-enables itself once I exit the settings menu.
App icons aren't updating. For example, Gmail, Maps, Photos and FB Messenger still display their old icons, despite me using the latest versions of those apps.
Google Play still displays the older menu style, despite me using the latest version of that app.
System Apps Updater doesn't detect OTA updates, despite several newer versions of MIUI 12 system apps existing on APK Mirror. This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Updater doesn't detect OTA updates. I had to sideload 12.0.8 in order to update from the phone's original OS version (12.0.7). This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Full disclosure: I'd rather not turn off MIUI optimization to see if that resolves any of these issues, as I'm not keen on resetting permissions (again).
Edit:
When I uninstall an app via the app drawer, a gap is left in its place. The icon of the uninstalled app is still there, it just turns invisible. I can uninstall it over and over, but it doesn't go away until I reboot the phone.
There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off the phone's equalizer. I can't use Blackplayer's equalizer until I do so. I don't know if the same applies to other music players.
Edit:
There doesn't appear to be a way to add emergency contacts or access them via the lockscreen emergency dialer. Emergency information (com.android.emergency) exists within the list of installed apps.
I'm on Global 12.0.7, unlocked, rooted and debloated. Stock recovery. What did you exactly do to update to 12.0.8? I do not want to wipe and I'm a little confused with the procedure...

I downloaded it from here, went to About Phone in Settings, clicked on the OS version number in the top left, clicked on the 3-dot menu in the top right and installed it via Mi File Manager.
AFAIK, you can only use Mi File Manager to install the update via this method. If you've disabled or uninstalled it, nothing will happen when you click that menu option – even if you've installed another file manager.

I just tried this. It reboots and starts updating... but goes from 0.X% to 100% in two seconds, then it boots and it's still 12.0.7

That sucks. It worked just fine for me. Don't know what else to suggest.

Finally I booted into TWRP and flashed 12.0.9 from there, no issues.
