Hi there. I'm new to Xiaomi/MIUI and would appreciate any help with the following issues.
Mi 10T – Global Stable 12.0.8 – stock launcher – MIUI optimization ON – de-bloated with ADB
I can't see how much storage space is being taken up by each installed app/package. They all show a "0" value.
I can't find Running Services under Developer Options.
I can't permanently disable usage access for System Launcher. It re-enables itself once I exit the settings menu.
App icons aren't updating. For example, Gmail, Maps, Photos and FB Messenger still display their old icons, despite me using the latest versions of those apps.
Google Play still displays the older menu style, despite me using the latest version of that app.
System Apps Updater doesn't detect OTA updates, despite several newer versions of MIUI 12 system apps existing on APK Mirror. This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Updater doesn't detect OTA updates. I had to sideload 12.0.8 in order to update from the phone's original OS version (12.0.7). This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Full disclosure: I'd rather not turn off MIUI optimization to see if that resolves any of these issues, as I'm not keen on resetting permissions (again).
Edit:
When I uninstall an app via the app drawer, a gap is left in its place. The icon of the uninstalled app is still there, it just turns invisible. I can uninstall it over and over, but it doesn't go away until I reboot the phone.
There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off the phone's equalizer. I can't use Blackplayer's equalizer until I do so. I don't know if the same applies to other music players.
Edit:
There doesn't appear to be a way to add emergency contacts or access them via the lockscreen emergency dialer. Emergency information (com.android.emergency) exists within the list of installed apps.
I'm on Global 12.0.7, unlocked, rooted and debloated. Stock recovery. What did you exactly do to update to 12.0.8? I do not want to wipe and I'm a little confused with the procedure...

I downloaded it from here, went to About Phone in Settings, clicked on the OS version number in the top left, clicked on the 3-dot menu in the top right and installed it via Mi File Manager.
AFAIK, you can only use Mi File Manager to install the update via this method. If you've disabled or uninstalled it, nothing will happen when you click that menu option – even if you've installed another file manager.

I just tried this. It reboots and starts updating... but goes from 0.X% to 100% in two seconds, then it boots and it's still 12.0.7

Finally I booted into TWRP and flashed 12.0.9 from there, no issues.

Hi Mi A1 Device Holders,
I was curious of Google Floating Dialler on my device running Android O. So tried a modded APK from one of the threads. However I couldn't install the mod on to my device when it was in Beta stage. After several attempts.
Now Google have released a new version v17 in which the floating bubble dialer is enabled by default. You may refer to the below link.
https://www.xda-developers.com/enable-google-dialer-floating-bubble-2/.
So I wanted to try it again and went to Playstore and it doesn't allow me to download. Tried downloading and installing from Apkmirror. However I couldn't install it.
But I managed to install it with a small tweak.
Here is the Guide:
1. Hold the Phone app Icon and Click App Info
2. Scroll down to Option Phone App. If it is showing YES, you will not be able to install the new app. So you need to change it NO.
Note: You will not be able to do it without another Dialler app installed on your phone. For this, I installed TrueCaller App and then changed it. You may try with other dialer apps.
3. Install the latest app downloaded from ApkMirror or the one attached below.
4. Again, hold the Phone app Icon and Click App Info and shift the Phone App from True Caller(in my case) to Phone app.
5. You are done.
Enjoy :good:
Hit a thanks if you like it
P.S:
I was using v16 which got automatically updated from Playstore from the previous version. On top of that I installed the V17. My device is not rooted and using stock os...and I find absolutely no issues or lag or whatsoever
well in my case i just installed it and it worked voilaa.... Thanks for link
Thanks for the APK. I was able to install but now I can't search for contacts using T9 dialer. I now need to manually tap the search bar on the top and type in the letters.
Even manually searching is really slow and delayed.
Any fix for this?
Edit: The problem goes away if I roll back to the default Phone app, but comes back once I reinstall the above Apk.
What's going on here?

It's working fine with me.. I find no such issues. You may try clearing the cache/data of the app. See if it helps.

I tried that but it didn't help. Any other ideas?
I figured out the issue! For some reason Google Phone v17 did not work well with Contacts v2.4.
T9 dialling was very slow to search the contacts (10-15 seconds).
I tried everything from reviewing permissions, clearing cache, removing accounts etc. But nothing worked.
Finally I decided to manually check apkmirror and update the Contacts app to v2.5 and presto! Reduced lag when using T9 dialling!!
There is still an ever so slight lag compared to when I roll back to the v13 Google Phone, but it's much more usable now. Hope this helps!

i tried this on my redmi note 4, but when i make a call, history is not logged in new phone app, only in the old one. any suggestions? i hate these gapps [emoji14]
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using Tapatalk
Have you tried setting the new phone app as the default and disabled the old one?
I was using v16 on January stable build and all was fine then i downloaded apk of v17 from apk mirror and it was also working fine aftert that i changed my rom to new February beta and now after installing v17 when i open phone app a popup appears everytime with a message that this app is not compatible and calls may not work correctly. Even though app was working fine but that popup was irritating me so i modded my phones build prop to pixel xl 2 and now Phone app is compatible with my Mi A1 and i can see it in play store aswell ??????
I was using v16 which got automatically updated from Playstore from the previous version. On top of that I installed the V17 and I find absolutely no issues or lag without build prop changes. Moreover, my device is not rooted for your info...
Global Update is there.
For those who installed it already, give us some feedback.. and one question, should factory rested be done before or after installing update? What is better, because i never did reset before, just apply update, but now would like to do reset also..
Works fine without reset. Smartphone was very hot during update. After installation I made a reboot. All Apps are working and Dark Mode is now available for most Apps.
This update broke my GooglePay, no longer passing ctsProfile in safetynet.
Seems to work fine. Before this update I was getting more and more bugs, but they seem to be gone now. Rebooting after the update took a long time, however. I was stuck on the Mix logo for 5-10 minutes.
There are some visual tweaks here and there, but that's all I can notice.
Themes available, region uk!
Latest update has caused my home launcher to crash. Am only able to use it cause of 3rd party launcher.
Does Magisk patched boot work with this? I was stuck a boot screen for over 10 mins before I had to reflash stock boot.img.
*update*
I had an out of date version of exposed installed that caused boot loop.
I can't install work email, and because my phone is CN region, of course, Google Pay not working. Not sure if boot options for the kernel changed, going to look and see if I need to update my flashable patcher zip.

Not with the latest stable version. Take a look here so solve your problem: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/issues/2492#issuecomment-593149828
Any updates on anyone getting magisk to work on this? Can I use magisk patch with just the boot.img extracted from the OTA update .zip file?
I have the international not a china model.
Anybody found a solution for viper4android? I tried rootless 2.7 but driver will not install.

Magisk works.
But my ctsProfile fails on the safetynet.
Rendering GooglePay and PokemonGo unusable, which wasn't an issue for me before.
Also am international model.
After this update,
I was struggling to boot TWRP at first,
But my issue stemmed from trying to use adb / fastboot commands to boot into TWRP recovery, which only took me to stock recovery.
I got my Magisk back by doing a "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img"
And then manually used the volume up + power button to boot TWRP (I used the unofficial mauronofrio)
And from there just install the Magisk zip.

Just went through this process myself and came back here now to report on it.
This was my process for anyone also looking for guidance.
This will work for the new android 10 updated. I came from MIUI10 (10.0.3.2.0) using system update to go to MIUI11 and android 10 (11.0.3.0) via OTA update, which reverted to stock recovery and obviously lost root as well.
1. Saved most recent twrp 3.3.1-7-recovery.img for perseus by mauronofrio found in these XDA threads, magisk 20.3.zip found on magisk site and repository, and just to be sure disable forced encryption-treble.zip (just search for it) to my phone AND adb directory on Windows 10 computer.
ENSURE USB IS PLUGGED INTO 2.0 or 2.0 COMPATABILE HUB (Flashing recovery failed when connected to a USB3.0 port) and ADB/FASTBOOT is installed on your computer.
2. Booted into fastboot. (Power + Volume down)
3. Ran cmd.exe and entered "cd C:/(wherever you installed/platform-tools" without quotes.
4. Entered "fastboot devices" to ensure fastboot is connected. It should show device_id# and fastboot next to that.
5. Flashed TWRP3.3.1-7 for MiMix3 perseus (latest unofficial TWRP) by entering "fastboot flash recovery twrp3.3.1-7-recovery.img"
6. Entered "fastboot reboot recovery" the phone will reboot now, ENSURE YOU HOLD VOL+ ASAP or you will lose TWRP with stock recovery.
7. After booting into TWRP, entered password, wiped data and cache only.
8. In TWRP go to install and choose your disable_forced_encryption-treble.zip and flash it but do not select reboot device, it is selected by default.
(NOTE: Don't know if #8 is a necessary step especially for Global devices but did it anyways and it didn't hurt anything)
9. Go to install again and choose magisk20.3.zip, this time you can select reboot device.
10. After completing android setup download magisk manager 7.5.1 from play store and verify 20.3 is installed, if it is then congrats, you're rooted.
That's it! Like the above post said ctsProfile is reading false meaning you most likely will not be able to use Pay apps like Google Pay, etc.
Other apps that use google play services for verification may not work as well like Pokemon GO, Mario Kart, Harry Potter, or other banking/security apps. (Not sure about this one yet, try MagiskHide in the manager. Spyke180 is reporting above they do not work currently.) So if you can't live without Samsung Pay, or one of these games wait until a ctsProfile:true/SafetyNet passes solution is available.
Hopefully the next magisk update or someone in the community will be able to solve these issues in a timely manner, shouldn't be much of a wait.
Hope this made sense and can help some peeps out there perhaps.
CTSProfile is failing on my device as well. I tried using the boot cmdline patcher I made and it's still failing. I am wondering if Xiaomi released this update before getting the fingerprint in the CTS approved list. I can't think of anything else. My device is a CN device, so the BL is unlocked. I don't know if flashing Magisk with CN device and Global software still results in a boot loop but may try it.
Also, Magisk is detected through some methodology. I read all the posts made in both the release and beta threads in the last 3 days and it seems broken for everyone.
MMS stopped automatically sending and receiving on Google Messages app. But somehow works flawlessly on stock texting app. Notification tells me "Can't send MMS message. Tap to allow MMS messaging on (Carrier) when mobile data is off". Tapping the notification yields nothing. Even a factory reset does nothing.

If you go into settings, and then to "SIM cards & mobile networks", is the "Always receive MMS" toggle in the on position (blue)?

If you're rooted, you could try using the systemize module to make it a system app.

Hi,
Today I flashed my Mi 11X Indian variant with Miui EU ROM 12.5.2.0 via fastboot method. After a few attempts I was able to successfully boot into EU ROM. Now my concern is that by default the ROM doesn't come with Chrome App and I am unable to install it via playstore. I tried installing via Apkmirror apk file. I installed it. It shown as successfully installed. But Icon isn't visible. I navigated to Settings-Apps-Manage Appe and here I see Chrome as installed. I went to playstore where too app shows as installed but no OPEN button visible. Tried opening a web link and in the prompt window only firefox and opera were shown as options. Chrome wasnt shown as an option to open link with. Please help me. Does disabling/uninstalling any google bloatware may be a cause for this. I did use ADB tool and disabled/uninstalled google App, google assistant etc.

Thanks. I think its the same persistent problem of android web view and chrome not getting updated which has been there for a few months now. After installing everything, just cleared the playstore data and cache and again tried to install chrome. Something happened in the background and chrome got installed. It wasn't the same as other apps got installed, something downloaded in the background and then some 5MB of Chrome app downloaded from playstore and then it got installed.
Thanks. My issue got resolved.

Hey thanks for replying. Android Web View was installed as soon as I setup the handset. Only chrome wasn't getting installed. I tried installing via chrome apk too, but still dint work. I couldn't see app icon but can see it in settings->apps->manage apps. Also could see uninstall option in playstore at chrome app page. Uninstalled it. Then cleared data/cache of Google Play Services apps in settings->apps->manage apps. Then again went to playstore and tried installing again. Couldn't see anything happening but as you mentioned something in the background was getting downloaded with file name containing "trichrome". Then after it got downloaded, then only I could see chrome getting installed in playstore app.
I rm alsi having this issue, not even installing trichrome from an apk works, I am stuck

Yo!
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with a way to permanently disable the OxygenOS System Update notification from appearing. See the attached image.
On one of my previous phones you could disable this through Titanium Backup, does anyone know what the proper app to freeze is?
Thanks
Disable the System Update application using ADB. You can use this tool.
Or just disable the System Update app via TB since you already have it installed. Beats plugging the phone into pc to use adb lol.
If you have root, try this app
Notifications Off [Root] - Apps on Google Play
Get rid of Pesky Notifications!
play.google.com
I personally use this to disable System update notification for OOS 12 on my OOS 11 install

Just a quick update. Tried the disabling the system update via dev option and it didn't work. In fact it got more persistent in update notifications. Have downloaded and installed the ADB App Tool. Disabled the 'system update' with the settings tool icon (there's another same name with android icon) though and now monitoring. Do have to admit that the ADB Tool is excellent and installs all the necessary drivers and icons w/o the need for separate download
Hi
I was on Android 12 and signed in to the beta program 10 days ago.
I've noticed that APKs that were fine on Android 12 are not working anymore on Android 13 Beta.
APKs are crashing at opening.
I thought that may have been an issue related to the beta version of Android but couple of days ago Android 13 stable rolled out (I've signed out from the beta) but those apps are still not working.
I've found older APKs for a couple of apps and one works and one not.
How can I solve this without a factory reset?
Thank you in advance
What are the apps that are crashing? What does a logcat show when the app crashes?
Google introduced restrictions in A13 for side loaded apps. No longer can they use accessibility apis nor can they access notifications etc. Just speculation but if the apps you are using are old they may be crashing because of these changes.

Do those apps need Accessibility and/or Notification Access permissions? If not, then I don't think the 3 dot menu needs to be there as it is only for those specific permissions (or whatever other permissions Google might add to the list in the future).
For example, I have Adaway installed but it doesn't have the 3 dot menu because it doesn't need either of those permissions. The same for App Manager.
I am really confused with this new "session-based install" security.
What are "session-based install" and "non-session-based install"
Play store app install --------- surly "session-based install" 100%.
3rd-party store install --------- is said also to be "session-based install".
Firefox download an apk --------- is said to be "non-session-based install",
But how the firefox different from a 3rd-party store????? a system white list something?
safetynet, selinux, forcing many settings, anti-rollback, non-store app restrictions.........
I enjoyed so much that google throws sht tons of troubles to billions of advanced users, to fight an enemy that may not even exist.
(how many people have their phone bootloader secretly unlocked remotely by a hacker and installed root malware, unknowingly?)
Gives a warning is good eg. bootloader locked warning is great IMO. But force the hands and keep finding ways to screw the advanced users as hard as they can, to get the "everything is under my control" status is the wrong path.
I read the news that malware devs have already found a way to bypass this restriction.
In the end, like many others, It achieved nothing, except giving trouble to advanced users and devs.
A global bypass must be also on the way, especially from China. Millions like 90% of APPs are not store-based in China since the google ban, and people are used to download apk from every companies' websites as we do on Windows PC.

3 APKs from the company I'm working for (not on PlayStore) 2 sideloaded apps, and a LADB signed sideloaded APK
For example you cut and CC cleaner keeps crashing all the time.
Same here. Almost every app not from Play Store keeps closing right on tap to start them.
Tried to sideload them per USB with full rights. Same.
My company apps that didn't come from the play store are opening without a problem
Thats Vers Strange, indeed.
Every sideloaded App, modded or Not does Not work
Thought it was me...this is bs!
What's the next step...start posting logs I assume?
It's not EVERY sideload for me but about 1 in 3 I'd say.
btw...I got an 'install failed' trying to install/flash the viper4android mod not realizing how old it was...now I'm seeing lotsa audio/sound related crap in logcat reader. If I AM 'currupt' somehow, will just a rom re-flash fix a magisk issue or do I need a full wipe?
Tia for any guidance offered!

12 won't work right on the 13 bootloader, and you can't downgrade the bootloader.
When I initially tested flashing only the 13 bootloader on my Pixel 6 Pro, while still running Android 12, it booted fine, I unlocked the phone, and all looked normal. But I didn't launch apps, especially Chrome, YouTube, and plenty of other things. If I had, I would have noticed problems that others have had since then. It was since found that certain/many kinds of apps will not work right running on Android 12 when you have the 13 bootloader installed.
I know this above is not what this thread is discussing, but since you mentioned it, I just wanted to point out that if you're on any Pixel 6/Pro/a with Android 13's bootloader flashed, you won't be able to use stock Android 12 on it. You'll be able to flash everything but the bootloader, boot it up, and unlock it, but before long you would discover problems that you wouldn't be able to work around and would effectively make your phone unuseable for many things that we take for granted.
By the way, hopefully you have the 13 bootloader flashed to both slots. Having the 13 bootloader on only one slot is a little dangerous.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot --slot all flash bootloader bootloader.img
