***Sunshine Version 3.3.19 works on latest Verizon Htc 0ne m9 mm update***
I confirm that the newest sunshine update apk Version 3.3.19 works for the new verizon mm rom out on htc m9 build # 605.7 . tried it last night everything went great, except it didn't keep root when device booted up. It only unlocked the bootloader and s-offed the device. I had to download twrp recovery. zip file and flash it as a ruu update in download mode after I renamed zip file to file to 0PJAIMG.zip. After I flashed twrp over stock recovery I flashed stock rooted rom for root. Great job sunshine developers for finally getting it right for us verizon users. Been waiting over 8 months to get a exploit from an Apk.
I can also confirm this for verizon m9's. worked flawlessly.
so i can use sunshine to s off a stock verizon m9? is there a guide?

Where can one find this sunshine app? I haven't checked the forums in a few months. I thought it would be pinned or something.

I just resorted to using Sunshine to root my M9 so I could fix the thermal file. I complained to Verizon and they reimbursed my fee for rooting! w00t!
The new Verizon m9 3.37.605.13 update patches sunshine's temproot, we are aware and working on it, but it will take some time.
Does the RUU for 605.13 patch the Sunshine exploit, or can we get root via the RUU upgrade?
EDIT: upgraded to 605:13 using the flashable rooted stock rom elsewhere in this fine forum..
- Picked up an HTC One M9 on Swappa (still running 5.x).
- OTA Updated through 3.37.605.7
- Being nagged about the 3.37.605.13 OTA.
- Ran Sunshine to S-off, but haven't gone the TWRP/ROM route yet. (I won't be at a PC w/ adb drivers for about a week).
Is it safe to accept the 3.37.605.13 OTA update? I'm assuming it is, right?

Since you're S-OFF, I believe you can 'manually' apply the update.
Go here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/6-0-verizon-htc-one-m9-marshmallow-t3316279, download "3.37.605.13_NoBoot-NoRecovery_firmware.zip" and apply it however you're comfortable doing it (fastboot or download mode).
Am I just SOL?
I updated my phone to 3.37.605 before I saw this and in sunshine there is no temproot button have I just missed the boat

Is it possible to downgrade first and then use SunShine?

Weaksauce does not work for me, thanks
No, you have to unlock and root first and then get S-OFF and then you can set it back to locked. All HTC will know is you got the code, not that you ever used it
Ahhh i was hoping to avoid htcdev thats all lol i will have to do it properly then i suppose
Wouldn't towelroot work?
Nope, doesn't work on HTC phones
Doh! Sorry.
I thought Sunshine both unlocks and gives S-OFF, at least that's the impression you get when you look at the main OP.
SunShine is a commercial application that will unlock and s-off the bootloader on modern HTC devices (ie HTC M8).

Yeah, but you need root to run Sunshine.
Also if you s-off you can regain warranty. :victory:

Jcase, you are a God amongst men. I had tried for 4 hours to get Firewater to work and Sunshine managed it in 20 seconds with a single reboot and even politely uninstalled itself at the end. You are very welcome to my $25. Enjoy it.
Towelroot v3 didnt work for me either. on the apk it states if the phone reboots towelroot failed. my phone didnt reboot and appeared to have worked but supersu didnt work. i couldnt grant root access to anything, including sunshine.......

The instructions on the SunShine site do not mention installing the SuperSu app.Uninstall the app, then follow instructions. After you are s-off or unlocked, then install a custom recovery, and flash su properly.
The TowelRoot method is not ideal for long term use, but works for our purposes just fine.

Hello all,
I am new to all this, techy stuff, and have recently bought a htc one m8. I had it rooted for me, but I didn't want to pay for GPE. I then found out Lollipop has been released, and tried to get it by going into software info on settings, but I couldn't get the lollipop update, as my phone says 'Your phone software is up to date with the latest version'. I realised that because of my root, my phone wasn't on the same channel as it was on before. I found another way to get lollipop, but that meant buying sunshine for $25. Is there another free alternative? I thought I could unroot my phone, then reroot it, but I do not know how to unroot, get update then reroot. Can I please get help?
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist, in order to help you effectively I need to know which variant of the M8 you have please.
I have the gsm version
Ok, so it's not carrier branded at all?
no its not.
Going back to my question, i have actually found out my fone is on s-off bcus i had to unlock bootloader to root, meanin my fone is rooted with s-off. However, i would like to get gpe on my fone so i can get lollipop. Only issue is, the other methods do it on a normal htc one m8, not on a rooted htc one m8. Are the nethods the same meaning i can use the normal gpe conversion methods on my prerooted htc one m8, or do i need another method?
Thanks for the extra information, I'm actually asking you these questions for a reason, XDA Assist isn't a general technical support section so I needed to know exactly which variant you have in order to have this thread redirected correctly for you.
Please standby while we have your thread/question moved to the appropriate sub-forum for your device.
For future reference you can find your device sub-forum here (bookmark/subscribe this):

Unlocking your bootloader doesn't make you S-Off. Boot into your bootloader to check.
To get into bootloader, turn off your phone. Then hold down the power button plus vol down till your phone boots back up. You'll get a readout there that will tell you if you are S-Off or S-On.
If you can confirm that you are S-Off, I will guide you to converting your phone to GPE.

You can't use moonshine. The ONLY way to get s-off on this device is sunshine.
Yes, Sunshine, V3. And you are better off without the 5.0, if you want to S-OFF. Sunshine will most likely work on 4.4.4, and issues will appear while trying to S-OFF the Lollipop.

yeah delete all superuser binaries, or return to your original stock backup that you made before messing around with root
I have got my phone on bootloader, and I have a custom recovery file. However, I cannot seem to enter recovery mode. As I go to 'HBOOT' then 'RECOVERY' it shows the htc screen, but then it loads back to the bootloader screen. I have tried getting Hasoon's Toolkit and going into bootloader from here, and I have also tried getting a bat file and running that on my pc with my phone connected to it, same result. However, before this problem occurred, I had a message pop up, but this happened only once. This is what the message said:
SD Checking…
No Gift File…
Loading … ( OP6BDIAG.zip)
No image!
Loading … ( OP6BDIAG.nbh)
No image or wrong image!
Loading … ( OP6BIMG.zip)
Loading … ( OP6BIMG.nbh)
No image or wrong image!
After this, when I tried to go into recovery, the issue had then first occurred. Any suggestions on what to do? I have tried using a toolkit, a bat file, doing it through bootloader, and getting an app. Also, how can I clear my cache through bootloader?

You need a stock rom and recovery. So either 1 or both are not stock. Go to the thread where you have been already (the stock backup thread in the general section) and read up in there. All info and what you need to do is written down there.
Edit :
Ah just not getting notified for the update ? Like been said, wait for them to push. Or there is a custom (stock like) rom on your phone. If thats the case my first part stands

Spend the $25. It will save you from a lot of headaches.
Without it, whenever you need to update your firmware, you will have to flash a stock backup, flash a stock recovery, take the OTAs from your carrier, re-unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and flash superuser to reroot.
With S-Off, you just flash the firmware and you are done.

You must work for Sunshine team because i was looking around for a straight answer which push me to get S-OFF. I consider S-OFF just because Adaway and how much i hate ads, it's just annoying and my phone feels cheap with all of them; so i wish that once i get Sunshine and get S-OFF, it could work.
Just a question before pulling: I have the Malasyan or sorta version of the M8, the M8X running lollipop with bootloader unlocked and rooted, would Sunshine works?
Thanks for help.

It was a straight answer. Firewater doesn't work anymore, because HTC patched all of the exploits. And no, I don't work with Sunshine. It's just that it is the ONLY way to gain S-Off now. I actually used Firewater back when the M8 was just released and out for maybe a month, and before the exploits were patched.
I'm not sure if it will work for device or not. When you run it, it does a diagnostic check of your phone first, and you are only prompted to pay if it will work for you.

IIRC on my m7 s off was required to be able to switch to stock GPE android. But I read somewhere google has no plans to make a play edition of the m9 so is it even worth waiting to do s-off on the m9 or just start flashing away with Roms?
Waiting because previously I didn't and wait and I remember it being a PITA to do s off if you were already rooted and flashed a rom
The s-off method will be sunshine.
It will cost $25 and will be simple... Your phone will need to be rooted I believe.
So... No. Dont wait for S-off... get your flash on.
S-off is really only needed if you wish to upgrade your firmware (recommended) without going back to stock and using the official RUU / OTA method.
After flashing custom roms, you should be able to s-off anytime when sunshine is released for the m9 without any major issues. The process should be no different on stock rooted or custom ROM.
Downloaded the sunshine app and it says the phone is compatible even though the site says up to 5.0.1 (I have 5.0.2). Seems like they got it... anyone used it yet?
Edit: nm. Found the thread that confirms s-off.

yes u are correct, i must have been using a non signed or corrupt image, downloaded the developer edition recovery and that worked fine.
first time with a HTC so havent really had to deal with this layer
i think i will wait and stick to stock and keep the warranty intact for now until development becomes more mature.

It's even changed coming from the M7/M8, they changed the way a few things work and it's thrown everyone through a little loop.
Your warranty will basically always be intact. They warn you that it *could* be voided when you unlock-- Which stays "voided" even if you go back to stock. HTC always seems to honor the warranty if it actually is due to a manufacturer defect.

You can get rid of that red text on boot-up that says it's for developmental purposes only.
You could make your device any version(carrier > WWE/Dev)
It's just a nice thing to have.

It's even changed coming from the M7/M8, they changed the way a few things work and it's thrown everyone through a little loop.
Your warranty will basically always be intact. They warn you that it *could* be voided when you unlock-- Which stays "voided" even if you go back to stock. HTC always seems to honor the warranty if it actually is due to a manufacturer defect.

and this is my main question is all the WWE custom roms that are made are already compatible with us carriers versions of the m9 without us having to s-off and change firmware.
so whats the reason to soff and change firmware when all wwe custom roms are already compatible?
For example to be simply able writing into aboot LOCKED instead of RELOCKED.. or full transformation into another region ROM capable taking the intended OTAs.. and many other things, Bro!

I came from a nexus 5 so dealing with these different ROM variants is new to me. I have an at&t m9 and do I need to s off and change my super cid before flashing one of these Roms? Also to be able to get another region ota will that change my radios? The reason why im asking is would I loose my LTE from at&t?

You can flash any rom simply by being unlocked with a custom recovery. Most of the GSM roms are compatible with every carrier. I know there were some data issues at first(Mainly not having the correct APN's), but they all should be worked out by now.
Should note: S-off is not needed to have a custom rom. It's only needed for those users who want a little *more*

So if I wanted to update the firmwares is as easy as replacing cid with 11111111 and can I update parts of the firmwares... I don't want to lose my at&t LTE

I got the same message when using fastboot in the WHITE bootloader screen... you need to be in the BLACK download screen and then the fastboot recovery works fine.

You won't lose your LTE, you will just lose their pre-installed apps and bootup-logos. Everything will work fine. SuperCID (11111111) to flash developer RUU is what you get with S-OFF, that plus custom pre-boot logo, and ability to return to true-stock without it saying "modified" or "re-locked".
Do you think anyone will ever make a free one down the road, or should I just pay the $25 now?

You still got to unlock the bootloader as well as root to be able to use SunShine depending on FW and ROM version. After this you could de-brand the device e.g. by following my guide linked in my signature below.

I used Sunshine without unlocking my bootloader. Latest Sunshine has temp root, so it will unlock your bootloader and s-off your phone in one take. Also, you can leave bootloader locked and s-off only.

That I don't know. It's easy to check tho - go to Sunshine web page, download the latest Sunshine app, and run it. It will check your phone compatibility, and if it's compatible, it will ask you for payment. Easy as that

Ya I see they added Nougat support, which is great. The guys had said that at some point they wouldn't be able to ensure that temproot would work on verizon future updates. Still good so far.

I'm still on MM, so I don't really know much about Nougat, but, as I said before - download Sunshine app and run it. It will do all verifying steps for you, and if your phone is compatible, you're good to go. If not, no harm, no foul. Uninstall the app, and that's it. No payment is required untill your phone is verified as compatible
I concur. I installed Sunshine last week on my stock MM HTC 10, no need to unlock or to root before that. It worked just fine, now I'm S-off and still locked.
+1 on what was said about sunshine
If your on nougat make sure you use the latest TWRP here
As for root you can use either Magisk or just flash the latest SuperSU here

Sorry, no idea about that. I didn't even try to unlock it. As the option not to unlock was offered in Sunshine, I didn't look further...
Let's hope some connoisseur will be able to help you.

Why on earth would you want to do that ? If you are S-OFF you don't need to unlock the bootloader for anything at all !

Yes. Why you would do that seems strange though. You just need to get your hooks on the ruu.exe for your phone and run it. Your phone will be returned to the sorry, pathetically uncustomizable, stock rom.
For my device, Viper10 3.5.0 MM rom is as good as it gets. Nothing better. Not impressed with Nougat nor the CM based roms that are perpetually in an "Unofficial" state.

You can do that with any CID. A custom rom has nothing to do with your CID.

SuperCID allows you to flash every kind of RUU made for the HTC 10, although there may still be reasons you wouldn't want to flash some of them versus some others. You might have to change your MID too.
Magisk not compatible with sunshine?
Sunshine says it's not compatible with magisk installed do I uninstall it.
