I am probably moving on from this phone to either G2 or Nexus 5. From a developing standpoint it looks like I would be able to contribute a lot more to G2. However, I have been pretty busy lately and would love to be continuously updated with the latest android. What do you guys think?
G2 but that's just my two cents as I'm sure a lot of people will say Nexus 5.

What would the reasons be?

Bigger screen, I like the back button design, hardware that will keep up with other phones for quite a while.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Given LG's history of releasing a new flagship device every 6 months and quickly forgetting about their previous flagship phones when it comes to software updates, Nexus 5. (It'll feel newer longer.)
The Nexus 5 is GSM and CDMA compatible; higher resale value down the line.
While the Nexus 5 has a smaller battery, the built-in wireless charging capability (also featured on the Verizon LG G2) means occasional top-ups throughout the day are easy and convenient. While the wireless charging pads don't come with the Nexus 5, the price difference between it and the G2 mean you can afford at least two (one for work and one for home).
If you're considering a mobile provider that gives you a discount for not subsidizing a phone, the Nexus 5's retail price of $349/399 (16/32GB) versus the LG G2's ~$600 can save you a lot of money over the course of your carrier's contract.
TL;DR: Unless you need the 3000mAh battery, 5.2" screen, IR blaster, or moar megapixels... I'd advise the Nexus 5.

You'd be getting a sprint variant presumably right? The LS980 dev forums could use a little pick me up, roms are being built for multiple variants in one, and while thats cool and all, it would be nice to see LS980 specific roms/kernels. Since the N5 community is over saturated to be honest, another dev wouldn't matter much on the N5 seeing as everything over there has been built or is in the process. On the G2 however a new dev would be more appreciated seeing as there only a handful comparatively speaking of devs working on the sprint variant, hope this gives you some help on your decision!

I love being able to contribute by building ROMs, but I have been super busy with life and work. I am happy with my decision to get the optimus g, but with 4.4 ROMs and most ROMs in general being glitchy it really makes me want the nexus so I can be constantly updated without many issues. I agree that the nexus won't need anymore devs, but maybe that's not a bad thing for me. I already feel bad when I don't have enough time to get something out to you guys.

Tempting. Sprint is being stupid as usual about working with me to stay a customer. I might be switching to t mobile. I heard that their data speeds are good but voice service sucks. Can anyone comment on that? I have been having terrible service with sprint lately and no 4g where I live so t mobile might be a huge upgrade.

I'd think it fitting to do exactly and only what is right for you, and no one else.
As to voice + data services, these vary by region of the country. It took 2 years where I live for Sprint to go from selling 4G LTE phones and charging for them monthly to actually delivering on it. Now, I couldn't be happier with the data and voice quality (though voice has never been an issue where I reside).
T-Mobile may be great where you live, and based on what you've stated about wanting time for you and wanting a trouble-free update experience, go with the Nexus 5 and be done with it.
I wish you luck.

So my boss told me that my first phone is on the house I really like the Note 3 but I'm guessing the bootloader is locked up tight just like it is over on Verizon. So I guess i'm just fishing for info. I think the optimus G pro is what im leaning towards. So if it's not too much trouble let me know what you think about it. Thanks for your input ahead of time!

While I don't have a OGP, the only gripe about LG is the slow official software and the custom UI seems overly done but otherwise, I think it a lovely phone.
Note 3 is greater in performance and hardware, so I advice that, well there should be easier ways to unlock bootloader on note3 forum link. Our OGP is good but not enough for 2014 standards(a week away).

I traded my s4 for a g pro and couldn't be happier. it's a great phone with great battery life on stock and custom roms. also very easy to root and install cwm.
Thanks for all the input guys. Before I became a flashaholic choosing a phone was easy. Now I have consider things like bootloaders and rooting. I don't know if I could ever just use a stock phone again.

I have my OGP e988 (Taiwanese) for couple of weeks now. I like the stock rom it has all the value pack stuff already, no real need to root since I'm not sure how to (so many conflicting experiences). The things that bother me though are overheating (not really HOT but warmer than I'd like it to be), plus I don't know how to check the temperatures (only battery temp is shown in apps) and what I really hate so far is the camera - a significant framedrom in dark environment (I dunno if I'm doing something wrong). This is my first Android phone so I'm still a noob (haven't figured out how to wipe the dalvik and other caches). What I LOVE about the phone is the battery, the screen and everything else.

Lol can't agree more. Coming from galaxy nexus initially i did feel a bit uneasy with the Ogpro forum cause every other rom was for a different version of Ogpro(e980,988,986,f240). Lg is crazy i should say.. One international gsm version n one cdma version should be the norm kinda like samsung.

Did a whole lot of research before buying the OGP, myself. I came from the AT&T LG Optimus G which was converted to a Nexus 4. I was stuck between this, the S4 or waiting for the Note 3. Ultimately, the OGP won, as you can see. After playing with a Note 3 I can safely say that I'm way more than satisfied with my purchase. I noticed no speed increase between the OGP and Note 3 and I run my phone at 1.1GHz. The Note 3 is also waaaaay too bulky. I have big hands and can't even keep a good grip on that thing with 1 hand. No worries with the OGP and texting 1handed is a breeze. We might not have that big of a community but what we have works. As far as failed flashes, I think it depends on what recovery you're using. Had loads of problems until I switched to Madmack's hacked TWRP. Haven't had a problem since and that was months ago.

Yeah, sure. However, I didn't get any improvements on the Nexus 4, so I wasn't really optimistic about it. Just wanted to share. I'll check improvements on battery life tomorrow.
I noticed it was a bit smoother . but I found rooting and freezing unused bloatware has made a better improvement however I am not on art at the mo so maybe it will improve even more if I changed it again. I expect this device to be on par with my previous htc one m8 if not better and I still think its just under on performance for the ui I hope it improves as I love everything about this phone its design is fantastic and that's come from a full metal m8

That's a weird "upgrade" the m8 is a fine device.
I'm a apple fan to I buy most flagship devices. Htc one m8 had speaker faults then had screen problems. I gave up with that so quickly but I would say it was mega quick tho to use and the CPU is clocked under the g3 cpu. So I wouldn't say a upgrade

Some of us find the M8 a poor excuse for a flagship device. So many ****ty design choices, the foremost one being the useless speakers that just add device bulk and use up real estate without adding any useful functionality. The killer for me was the placement of the black band with the HTC logo. I was always pressing it expecting it to do something. At least they could have put it on top of the screen where it would not have interfered with the user experience as much.

I thought the design could of been better it just felt to long. Good materials used I thought tho. But saying that I love the plastic on the g3 in my opinion it feels the best built flagship device at the moment. S5 is just awfull I personally think the banding around that is so dam cheap

Previously there was an annoying nanosecond delay when switching apps or waiting for my SwiftKey to appear, now it's gone.
Also the response of an app opening is almost instant too.

Apart from losing the option to use Xposed, there aren't any downsides. Just remember that when you switch over, it can take 10-20 minutes for all the apps to load at boot. Make sure you have time to do this. You won't have to reset your phone but it will take a while before it's useable.

Dont really think this post was needed but hey, its here...
The G3 has its drawbacks as any phone does honestly, a locked bootloader is just that. Either wait it out, dont buy it or move along. All this was known prior to buying the phone so its your call, not like its a surprise. The T-Mobile version, being unlocked doesnt have enough base support for Devs to be overly interested in it and will be slow going. Hopefully once a fully working AOSP build is available things, at least for the T-Mobile version should pick up some. If you want an out the box supported phone do research prior to buying it, Nexus, One Plus One, HTC, Motorola etc. Companies that either give you the tolls to unlock, or model lines that are unlocked across all carriers are the way to go now a days...shouldnt be surprising.

So now your wanting the Nexus 6? You said the Note 4 would blow the G3 away so I thought you were set on it. I had Galaxy phones and the Note 2 but got tired of the same design. I'm thinking on trying the Note 4 but still happy with my G3. Also thinking on the Z3 just because it's something different. Last 3 phones were LG G2, Flex and G3. Also thought about iPhone 6 but that probably won't happen.

i thought about the M8 but i couldnt get over two simple things that bugged me, first i didnt feel the screen size was sufficient because of the htc logo on the bottom took too much space and second was the camera, i have a toddler and i need to film everything.... maybe that rumored htc m8-eye..... or nexus x if its not 5.9' size.
so much to love about the G3 as well, if business picks up here in the following month i wont feel the pressure to jump one more time.
love the feel, the size of the screen is perfect, and the bezels alone just make this easily the best looking phone of the year.

It will sometime this year, but Verizon in particular is notoriously slow in pushing major Android updates to their customers. There is a good chance big red will be the last major carrier to push it out.

This is sadly why I jumped to the 6P in November. I never realized how nice it was to be able to mod and customize your phone any way you want, and have actual 100% stable stock Android ROMs.

I just signed up for Project Fi and ordered the 6P with 128GB storage. I'm ditching Verizon AND what they did to the great G4. It's a shame, too. It's such an excellent phone, but it's just so... neutered.
Any possibility for a unlocked bootloder in the future?
