Hello, I bought a HTC One M9 (Verizon) on Ebay which comes with the Marshmallow update. What is the process to root the phone at a minimum. I can live without flashing ROMs but I would really like to get SuperSU. I have been away from this process for sometime coming from the HTC One M7, which I rooted and unlocked the BL straight away, but went to the S6 and V10 with VZW locking down the BL. Anyway, how do I get the M9 up and running (root at minimum)? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi. I have an HTC One M7 unlocked. I am currently using an AT&T sim in it. The problem is I can't seem to upgrade my phone to the new sense 6.0 since it requires the phone to be on CDMA network to update the software which is kind of lame since it's unlocked now. Is there a workaround for this or do I have to install a new rom? Thanks. Any help would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

Verizon phone need to be on verizon network to get updated i had the same issue . If you want to you can always ruu but you must be s-off and unlocked bootloader too!! Use the above link ruu is the best option:good:
Hello all, today I tried flashing a custom rom onto my Verizon HTC One M8 (ARHD 10.2, in case it's important). I successfully obtained root, used Sunshine method to get S-Off, got Super CID, TWRP recovery, and the latest firmware. When I tried to flash ARHD it said set_perm:some changes failed. Then when I tried to reboot, it went into bootloop. Tried restoring my backup before I flashed the rom, and it brought my stock rom back, but I cannot connect to mobile networks. What should I do? If any more info is required, please let me know and i'll be happy to supply it. Thank you for your time.

You'll probably want to re-post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8
p.s. you are lucky that Sunshine works on the M8. New M7 owners can't do it.

Hi All
My name is Phil and I'm new to HTC phones so I apologise in advance.
I wonder if anyone out there can help me, I'm trying to just unbrand my unlocked Vodafone UK HTC One M8 which is currently on KK 4.4.4. What I would like to achieve is an unbranded phone as if I had purchased it unlocked from HTC with the warranty in tact that will accept OTA's so I'll get lollipop.
I understand I will most probably have to unlock the bootloader, root, S-off etc but what I'm a little unsure about is, can I get an official stock rom complete with sense 6 installed on the phone and then lock it all back up for warranty (ie in fastboot it states locked, original software, s-on etc etc)
I have read many threads and watched youtube videos that seem to show that it can be done but I would like to check with you guys before I start.
If this is possible, which method would you recommend as there seems to a few different methods.
Also is Sunshine the only s-off method now?
Again I'm sorry but I've come from a Sony xperia phone which unbranding was really easy to achieve without rooting
Thank you in advance
Phil
I take it you took advantage of the recent deal too. Anyone would be crazy not too at that price.
At the moment it seems that the Vodafone m8s can't be s-off'd so we have to wait for root ninja to release sunshine v3 which will work. It doest seem to far off.
Once you have s-off you can change your CID and flash the generic firmware and Rom. We just have to play the waiting game now.
I think sunshine does reset the flags for you, but I'm not sure on that. Oh and don't s-on again unless you absolutely have to send the phone in for service.
Thanks isx for your reply
I did indeed get it while it was on offer
Any ideas on the lead time of sunshine V3?
I have lollipop on my Galaxy S5 and keen to get on the HTC too
Cheers for your help
Hi, I currently have a Samsung GS4 and I am pretty pissed about how it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. I was wondering, if I can run out to Verizon now and buy a HTC One M9 if I can unlock it and install cyanogenmod 12 onto it (eventually). WIthout buying a special verizon, is this possible?

Nope. Vzw doesn't allow boot loader unlocking. You will need to wait for sunshine app to update or seek out a user who has a Java card. @bschram is your closest user that has one.
So I cannot use HTC Dev website, and does sunshine require root to use it, and what is this http://venomroms.com/sunshine-s-off-for-the-htc-one-m9-released/

Verizon has HTC block their devices on HTC dev. Non vzw devices are fine.
Sunshine doesn't support vzw m9 or even the m8 if it has the latest os yet. Sunshine for the non Verizon m9 requires unlocking boot loader through HTC dev.
Make sense this time?

Yes, It does. But just to be sure, will this ensure a full 100% on unlocked bootloader and if it needs root to root it, how will it start doing that?

On the vzw m9 sunshine support will come when they figure out how to enable root and flip the s flag off all in one shot.
Your other alternative is to buy the phone and send it to a user who has a Java card. That process involves putting a special card in your SD slot and running see commands. You will end up with s-off and bootloader unlocked with that.

With a NON Verizon HTC m9...unlock your boot loader through HTC dev....then you run sunshine to get S-OFF...once there you can do whatever you want...flash custom roms already rooted....stay stock Sense and flash whatever supersu you need for root...basically the world is your oyster at that point...lol
Verizon M9 should eventually get there (sunshine S-OFF), but until it does the java card S-OFF is the only way...and there are plenty of fine fellows here that can assist you if you so choose.
With that method..after you are S-OFF...you can run an adb command to unlock your boot loader and then from there the same as above.

Should add that the guys with cards are doing the works. S-off, bootloader unlock, twrp, and supersu.

+1 for @bschram - Sorted my Verizon M9 a week ago --- Pre-root backup, S-off, install TWRP, root, and unlock bootloader.
Ready for me to install custom Rom

Full service crew!
Only problem you will have afterwards is finding a Verizon CM12 ROM. Because as of now, this is what we have to work with...nothing. And from what I've heard, cm is no longer unifying devices. All I'm saying is its gonna be a bit of a road. However, if you don't mind waiting and running a sense based custom ROM for a while, then get it and have @dottat unlock everything for ya! I'm actually about to send him mine!
I don't know if any of you guys have heard of towelroot, but it only works for kitkat samsung devices on verizon, it might be possible that geohot will release an update for lollipop s5. and maybe someone will adapt that to fit the HTC One M9.

Well, i got my M9 as a christmas present, thinking that it was the unlocked variant, and when i receive it i inmediately start going through all the updates and when i finish, i asked myself, where is the 6.0 update? so i started diggin, and found out that my M9 is the australian variant, with CID OPTUS001, but the weird thing is that it is unlocked. So i ask, does it mean i wont be able to get the updates first? if the answer is no, then what do i have to do to convert my M9 to the international version, so i can get the updates first?
P.S: i already have experience with rooting, S-off, ROMS, etc on my M7 and i have already unlocked the bootloader of my M9

The US dev edition is the one that got the update, you'd have to covert to that to update it now or just wait for your edition to be updated
