Hi everyone.
I have Wi-Fi problem with my Nexus 5X. When I ping router from Nexus there are some lags (for example: 3ms, 2ms, 89ms,90ms, 3ms). It is strange. I tried with other routers - the same problem. Even when I launch Wi-Fi Hotspot and I ping Nexus address (192.168.43.1) ping are also not stable. What is interesting i exchange my Nexus 5X to another. And... is the same problem. I haven't other Wi-Fi networks near so any noises are excluded. I tried 2,4GHz and 5GHz - no difference. I tried Safe Mode - no difference.
Are you using a custom kernel?
No, I'm using stock. All updates installed.
I checked issue with my friend. Another Nexus 5X, completely another router, localization and the same problem. Ping to the router is unstable. We checked also ping to Nexus 5X (192.168.43.1) when Wi-Fi hotspot is on - ping is also unstable.
To the Internet pings are also very inflated - about +100ms compare to the ping from PC.
So maybe this issue is occurring on every Nexus 5X. If you want test this:
- download the app from Google Play: Ping & DNS or PingTools Network Utilities
- ping address: your router address, 100 pings
You can also create Wi-Fi hotspot from Nexus 5X. Next connect PC to this network, and ping Nexus: 192.168.43.1 (if you use Windows I recommend use ping with "/t".

I have a Belkin F5D8633-4 v1 router, set up with WPA2, with wireless mode 802.11b&802.11g&802.11n. When I attempt to connect to it through my GN, nothing happens. It just shows the message "Saved, secured with WPA2", but doesn't actually try to connect.
Other devices are able to connect to the router just fine (I'm writing this from a PC connected to it), and the phone is able to connect to other wifi networks as well.
I have tried turning off all wireless encryption, power-cycling the router, pulling the phone's battery, but none of these seem to work. What can I do further?
Thanks.
I have similar behavior using a Belkin F7D7301v1 router running Tomato. Other things can connect to the Belkin AP, and I have a D-Link AP setup with the same credentials to allow roaming across my house that the Galaxy Nexus can connect to without an issue. I also have a Nexus S that doesn't experience the same issue. It seems to be an issue with my Galaxy Nexus on that particular AP. Will do some more testing around different channels to see if that's an issue as that should really be the only difference in the two.
The Galaxy Nexus is a Google I/O one running OTA stock 4.1 Jelly Bean.
I'm on stock JB and have been able to connect to the following routers without any problems:
- Western digital N600 both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
- Linksys WRT54GS tomato firmware and DDD-WRT firmware.
- Bell Canada Connection hub 2.4ghz wireless N.
- Engenius 2611p outdoor router 2.4ghz.
All routers on WPA/WPA2 encryption.
Thanks for the response, EP.
I tweaked a few things before realizing it was the MAC address filter list. I added the Galaxy Nexus to the mac filter list, but apparently although Tomato allows you to add more than 32 mac addresses to the filter list, anything after the first 32 entries are ignored. I was at 33 entries. I removed some old mac addresses and everything started working just fine.

Awesome.
At some points in your life, one of your Android devices connect to a wifi router, but can't connect to the internet. However, your computer, laptop or iPad will connect to that same wifi and use the internet just fine. I've looked everywhere on the internet for solutions, some of them are:
+ Turn off and on both modem and wifi router
+ Factory reset wifi router
+ Battery pull your phone, wait 30s and put it back
+ Reflash stock or custom ROM
+ Change DHCP IP setting to Static
+ Disable security (WEP, WPA) on wifi router
+ Check DNS server, gateway IP address for correctness
Fortunately, I stumbled upon this old thread last night -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371794
It helped fix the internet connection temporarily, turning off and on wifi on phone caused the issue to repeat.
In summary, he found out the correct MAC address for gateway was mismatched with the one on his phone. Even though the gateway IP address is correct (example: default gateway IP 192.168.1.1)
Upon further investigations, I found out my Wifi ROUTER has the same IP address with my MODEM (192.168.1.1) This IP conflict causes the phone to recognized the WIFI ROUTER's MAC address as the gateway's MAC address. This problem mostly occurs on Android phone, not computer (I'm no tech savvy so I have no idea why)
Simple fix: Go to wifi router setting page, change the IP address on wifi router to different number (other than default 192.168.1.1), and the problem should be fixed.
Please help spread the words to fellow Android lovers, I'm sure a lot of us have struggled with this problem
I'm one guy who is desperately looking for a solution to this.
Unfortunately the solution you gave didn't work.
Hi
i have a problem with wifi. it remains connected but loses internet access randomly. i found this solution:
"In the wifi networks, select the network you want and select ‘Forget network’
Turn off the wifi
kill all the apps with your task manager
Turn on the wifi again
Connect to the network
Check the internet connectivity
If still the problem exist, switch off the phone and redo the above steps"
it solves the problem, but it happens again after some minutes. actually, i also installed an app named "wifi fixer" which does the above process automatically. when the program is active, it turns the wifi off and on every 2-3 minutes. and the phone has internet access when the program tuns the wifi on.
any idea?
Turn off wifi optimization on some android phones help.

(bump) By any chance, are you all using Aztech's router? I have the same problem with my Aztech router.

2 years after the last reply I am having the same problem. My wife and kids all have internet access on their phones, tablets, desktop and laptops all from the same modem router yet I am unable to use the internet on my Galaxy S2 mobile phone even though my phone says connected to Wi-Fi Network Netgear 06.
The Mac address solution provided isn't applicable to my situation as my Mac address on my mobile is different to my modem router Mac address.
Any other solution?
Hi all, The wifi issue I need to discuss is NOT talked about in this forum before (I have searched manually). This wifi issue of Nexus 7 2 was an incidental finding. I have this unit since 2 months now and at present I am on the latest build of MahdiRom (flo). Everything works fine and smooth except... the Wifi LAN upload speed is very low, around 170 KB/s (kilo BYTES). While the download speed is upto 1.5MB/s (Mega Byte). My old HTC HD2 (also on same Wifi local network) shows 1.0MB/s uploads and same download speeds. It seems that something is PREVENTING the wifi of Nexus 7 2 from reaching its max. upload speed. This issue persists even on STOCK ROM (KK 4.4.2 KOT49H). I tried to do the speed test of wifi local network through a wifi adhoc connection but didn't know how to do that. Instead, I used an app called Fast File Transfer" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer).This app uses Wi-Fi Tethering for establishing a connection between the devices but does not need the Internet. And to my surprise it showed upto 2.1 MB/s upload speed of Nexus 7 2, meaning that the wifi adpater is working fine!!!
My setup:
1. Wimax broadband modem (DHCP is ON, IP: 192.168.15.1)
2. Linksys WRT54G (DHCP OFF, (acitng as a wireless access point) Set to Wireless G only mode, Security set to WPA-2, IP: 192.168.15.10)
3. HTC HD2 (Android Gingerbread 2.3.7 custom rom by JauguarAlani, IP: 192.168.15.15)
4. Nexus 7 2 (2013) (Mahdirom latest build KK 4.4.2 ( build number KVT49L)
I hope you get the picture.. I would be much grateful if anyone would kindly direct me in the right direction. Thanks
N.B: Also tried FTP method, but still the same speed.
I presume the IP address in 1&2 (.1 & .2) is a typo. What is the speed of your internet connection as claimed by your ISP or tested?

Thanks for responding. NO, there is no typo! The Wimax Broadband Modem has an IP: 192.168.15.1. It is the Gateway and its DHCP is ON. The Linksys WRT54G has an IP: 192.168.15.10 (static), and its DHCP is OFF. All other devies also have static IPs. The speed of my Internet Connection is 1.0 (one megabit/s) and I am getting slightly more than what I should be getting. This issue strictly has to do something with my Local Wireless Network. Thanks anyway.
Update! Problem solved!!!

My router was set for "G-Only" devices so I tried the option "Mixed" that is, B and G both. And it worked!! Although it doesn't make any sense, since my HTC HD2 (a four year old phone, running Android GB 2.3.7 was already performeing very good with the G-Only setting, but anyway, my problem is solved!
makes sense to me, since the router would be doing a lot of extra work to make sure it only used the newer protocol, and somehow it interfered with the nexus...But glad your solved!
5x on Fi
Stock 7.1.1
I enabled wifi hotspot on the 5x. Devices have a hard time connecting, with the dreaded "obtaining IP address" loop, and frequent authentication errors. The guest device has been connecting perfectly reliably to other android phone hotspots or wifi, and continues to work fine with other phones.
Also, when connected to the hotspot, I get poor bandwith, including frequent pauses in the connection.
Yes, I am aware of setting a static IP in the settings. But, it sounds like an issue with the 5x, or 7.1.1. I'd rather have a solid solution. Again, the device works fine using other hotspots or wifi connections.
Hello,
my Nexus 5x has problems with detecting the internet connection of my home wifi. If I connect freshly to the wifi (by turning wifi on my phone on), internet connection is detected. But if the phone is not used for some time, the Nexus "thinks" that the wifi has no internet access and uses mobile connection instead. This only occurs with my Nexus and the wifi in my flat. I do not experience those issues with my notebook nor the phone of my girlfriend at my home wifi. Nor does my Nexus 5x show those issues with any other wifi.
Does anyone of you experience similar issues oder do you know how to get rid of my problem?
Best regards,
wewa
Similar problem happen to me on 8.1. I solved with giving the WiFi connection static IP address in the settings (long tap on WiFi SSID and choose advanced, add static IP from range of your router). After some time it fixed by itself somehow and there was no need for static IP settings.
Somehow phone didn't get the IP from DHCP I think.
