Different Display-Panels/Quality?! - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, i just receive two LG G4 (H815) from the amazon warehouse.
I have the feeling that one of the devices has a little brighter display with also a little better viewing angles (both tested at 100% brightness).
Is that possible?
Does LG build in diffrent panels or are my eyes fooled?

Not every display is equal even on the same phone. Especially if you compare Brightness. This is usually only noticed when compared side to side.
I would not worry about it unless you feel something is wrong with it.
Sometimes you may have maple vendors for the same part. In this case even though specs are the same they are not 100% equal.
Sent from my LG G4

check if both phones have the same firmware. cause for me MM is a bit dimmer than LP. I compare the both side by side. then I flashed LP on my Phone and now its the same.

both have the same firmware

It's possible. LG has severe quality control issues. In favor of adding funny features at the lowest price among the smartphone giants, LG cuts corners on the wrong places. This can sometimes be the cheapest solder supplier, the cheapest BGA Station to assemble the PBC, the cheapest leather for the battery cover or as in this case the cheapest LCD panel they could get. Sometimes they get away with that. Sometimes they don't as we saw with the bootloop fiasco on the G4, caused by a "loose contact", probably on one of the mainboard components.
EDIT: I'd check the panel for burn-in or retention since reports of such issues on the G4 slowly pop-up all over the internet. I have it too, especially when the phone gets a little warmer or is used for a longer period of time.

You would never notice it if they where not beside each other. Take any phone you want and do the same. You will see some difference. The screens are not all made equal. The calibration process does not make them all 100% the same.
I worked for a major manufacturer. It was really interesting when you had 10 displays beside each other.
Sent from my LG G4

Is that a brightness difference, or just a temperature (color) difference, warmer and cooler?

I remeber back on the old g2 sometimes flashing roms and kernals you got a whote lines issue. Which stemmed back to two diffrent panel typed a jdi type and a lgd type. I had a jdi. Which i always got the white lines. I dont know if there was a diffrence in images the screen displayed. But i know then they did use 2 diffrent types

maybe it is dimmer because they have increased the contract in MM.. about my brother HTC M8 for example the screen is notably better in MM

Screen streaking/unevenness?

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else. Does your ET show (mostly) vertical streaking/unevenness when displaying a solid, light color? Is this something related to AMOLED, or is my ET defective?
Edit: I just realized this is dependent on screen brightness...the streaks are only apparent at the lowest brightnesses.
Thanks.
Screenshots would help others see what you're referring to.
Sent on the run.
I get this when my screen goes off and on
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I have to mention that the first one i had, was like this, but it showed like a dark spot in the center of the screen, btw screenshots wouldn't show this problem because is actually the hardware" Screen" In this case.
So i went ahead and brought it to the Sprint Store where i bought it from, and asked for a replacement due to the Screen hardware defect, they kept *****ing at me telling me, that they have to keep it for a whole day, to do "Tests" Im like... well its a hardware issue and i have taken the phone and hardreset it, making the phone as if just out of the box, and showed them the problem again"btw the phone comes with a Gray and Green pure colored background images that you can show to them, that it isn't an Image that you had Altered" , and they can see that it is the screen, and its what i showed to them, and thats when i got my replacement, When i got this one, i saw it again, and it had a white spot... also had various streaks coming from the Top of the screen, went int he second day and got me another replacement, but before i left the store, i stayed about 30 minutes in there, testing the phone out, and downloading all the apps that i had in the phone before. Also Good way to notice this problems( defects ) is dimming the screen all the way, and changing the background to gray, which is a default wallpaper.
This screen didn't have any of the defects that previous ones had, so im a happy camper .
So now what i'd recomend if you can, is replacing/exchanging the phone until you get one with a decent screen.
I get this too when my brightness is turned down. It's most visible on grays. Like the background of the market. It only appears when the brightness is turned down low. There is also this app in the market called "screen test" which cycles through different solid and colored backgrounds. that if you did take it in you could show them that. This issue doesnt really bother me but I have TEP plus there is a one year manufactures warranty so if it gets worse I'm not worried about it.
I finally got around to taking a quick set of comparison pictures. Sorry for the poor quality, I took them quickly with my phone. I also tried to purposely take them out of focus, so moire patterns from the actual pixel grid wouldn't confuse things. I have a feeling this is how all *LED based displays are.
I use the app "Colors" to quickly get a solid patch of color. I encourage a few people to download it, and browse through a few colors (grayish or dark tones - light or bright colors aren't affected as much) and see if they have it. "Grr-ey", "Mighty Slate", "Kind Giant" are good ones to test with.
Things are much more noticeable when the brightness is set low.
Brightness manually set to minimum:

You may be right my screen has the same effect :-(
Sent from my Galaxy SII using XDA App.

just ruined my one x screen due to flex issue.

Ok here's a warning to all of you, the edges of the screen are very sensitive to pressure I noticed the other day light pressure on the edge of the bezel would make my screen discolored, I just took my phone out of my pocket now and I have a yellow vertical band down the right hand side of my screen, I'm guessing my phone squeezed in my pocket when I got in the car for work this morning, just a warning to everyone be ultra gentle with your screens. :-( not happy.
having tested and unboxed over 15 HOXes
i can confirm to you some of them ripple under light pressure, some under some effort and few impossible to ripple
the ripple is a sign of imperfect screen lamination, if your's was very sensitive to begin with than it was defected out of box and hence the damage you have now
out of the 15 i tried, only one of them that my cousin own is completely ripple free no matter how hard you push
the one im talking about feels completely different to the rest, its extremely rigid on both left and right sides with such a tight gap that no dust can get it, like i said it has been an impossible task for me to find another one like it, this one is also perfectly clean and even on whites when viewed at every angle, ie: its lamination is flawless, early HT23 white
something is seriously messed with HTC screen fitting and its only time before more and more cases like this will appear
This phone gets better by the day...
Might dump it on ebay and .....
This is rediculous.... somone with money and power DO SOMETHING!!!!
Mod edit: Edited for language
The glass is pretty fragile anyway TBH. Mine has been in a pocket on it's own and still managed to become scratched after a week, whereas my last iPhone 4 went about two years without getting a mark on either side!

You should get a Samsung device, I here each of their displays are identically perfect. Seriously, I've never seen a mobile device forum where there weren't a percentage of complaints about the display. You can't build millions and have every unit perfect. Google "iPad/iPhone display issues" and you'll see no one's immune.

Thats the good thing about being able to manufacture your own screens and not have to rely on 3rd parties I suppose. Imagine being able to buy a HTC phone with a Samsung screen in it! Minus all the Hardware issues too!
Oh wait, were you being sarcastic!?!? lol

[Q] Yellowish tint near bottom of the screen

I just picked up a 2013 Nexus 7 this weekend as an upgrade for my 2012 model. Seems like a solid upgrade so far but I'm bothered by one item and it's the yellowish gradient toward the bottom one or two inches of the screen. I need to tilt the device maybe 15 degrees away from me to get a more consistent color. If I rotate the device 90 degrees counter-clockwise (camera now on the left), I can still see the yellowish darkening on light screens on the right. My 2012 model has consistent color throughout. I found a number of posts regarding people complaining of about a warmer color to the 2013 screen but haven't seen anything describing the gradient I see. It's rather annoying when reading webpages or ebooks with a light background.
Anyone else see this on their Nexus? Did it improve with time?
I tried to take a couple of photos but my camera doesn't seem to be doing a good job of picking up the colors.
Common issue
I returned mine (because of it) and got a new one which had exactly the same thing.
I also checked out a friend's N7 and had the same thing.
So I guess it is a normal thing. It is hardly noticeable and only on white background.
(Most panels have some kind of uniformity issues. I checked an iPad 3 and had some other issues...)

Thanks for the feedback. This is actually driving me nuts and I'm going to take it back to see if I can get one with at least less of the effect. Mine seems to be worse than the display model in the store I saw today. If they can't give me something that's equivalent in color consistency to my 2012 Nexus 7 then I'll return it and just stick with that.
If I were you I wouldn't bother.
In the store there are other ambient factors that may trick you in believing the store's sample is batter. But it will not.
3 samples I checked are exactly the same...
My device have yellow tint to. How to fix? "Screen adjuster" and other not helped for me.

I don't believe that this is correctable with software. I ended up getting a different tablet altogether and even this 10" one has the same issue. Guessing these panels are all coming from the same manufacturer....

LG G4 display burns?

Hello i would really like your opinion about something wierd with my phone.
I have a LG G4 and after a while that the screen is alight I get display burns of the parts the didnt change in the screen and have a bright color (such as the clock and battery status, it also happens in games that i play which have the buttons displayed in bright color).
It calms down after a few minutes that the screen is turned of or i force it to display something diffrent in the burned parts
I'm having a video attached so you can see what i mean (in the video i spoke some language, please ignore)
In the video the burned parts are at the top and top left (the "share" sign)
youtube.com/watch?v=Gcl0NOHPL3w
(i cant post links..)
Is it a normal thing to have on a phone like LG G4 considering the type of screen it has(LED)?

Ive had 3 g series phones now g2 g3 g4. I have set my screen sometimes to not turn off. Some items displayed for more than a hour or 2. I have never had any screen burn on any of the g series. Some people claim they have i personally have not. My g2 was the closest to a screen burn. It had a cloudy type in white backgrounds. But found out it was hotspots in the phone that discolored the screen. I always tell people never the the same thing display more than 20 or 30 min shut off screen or goto something full screen to get rid of status bar icons. A phone is just like any other device or machine they do need periodic breaks too
any1 else think something about it?
i would like to get more ideas and opinions
u sure it's a permanent screen burn ?
the notification curtain is not fully opaque it shades the icons beneath it and that's all..

its not permanent but it is annoying,
takes 30secs of still image to burn and stop burning after another 30secs of displaying siffrent image on the same screen spot

i agree with you it is ANNOYING as hell!!! I returned mine 2 weeks ago not only because of this but also because i cannot see nor connect to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Just 2 months prior top this the phone killed itself (not even 1 year old) and had to get a new PCB. LG if you are reading this, i want my money back.
Note to the people, please don't buy LG crap!

I've actually tested a lot of apps just like display tester pro..still believe it's HW issue that can't be fixed without screen replacement..how can this specific apk actually help with image retention? What exactly did you used?

Does the nougat update fix the youtube lip sync issue?

Also does nougat allow you to calibrate the color of the screen?
Yes it fixes the sync. No unfortunately no calibration of screen just the regular two modes. I also want color control as I want to make my screen a little cooler. We can just hope for a custom kernel in the future that allows this. ElementalX dev has stated he won't make anything for the P2.

If mine would had been just a tad warmer I would have thought about doing the same. But in "vibrance" mode it's good enough (barely). I can stand it as the eye gets a little used to it.
There are ways to make it a little cooler anyway. Check the app Screen Balance. It will mess with your blacks but not very much if you keep the opacity <50%. It's a tradeoff but it can help.

Actually that's what I've been using, it makes the black looks like dark blue...
The screen just isn't that good, not sure why so many people jump on the amoled bandwagon
LCD is more color accurate, no risk of burn in, the white looks so much better and the quality of LCD is always consistent unlike amoled which varies everytime.

I completely agree with you on every point. I'm an LCD person too for the same reasons.
Though I have to say I'm happy overall with this screen because of one reason, it's the most uniform screen I've ever had including all LCD phones I've had and they are a lot. My screen is pretty much perfect i never get this lucky certainly not with Amoled.

The sync issue is fixed and I don't have any problems with the screen. For many years everybody was loving the oversaturated amoled Samsung screens, but now there are opinions that some prefer lcd. Well it's a personal preference, lcd screens have bad black color and also drain more battery regardless what you're doing on your phone.
