Problem with xda-developers - About xda-developers.com

Hello,
I have problem with xda-developers from one weak. Before that forum work great.
Maybe problem is only on IE, because on Mozilla and Chrome it's OK.
I open forum from work with IE 11 and look the same
Any ideas how to fix it?
Only on IE 11 forum look like that:

I tried sending mail through the contact page for webmaster/technical issues but it never goes.
"about a week ago, the site basically broke using IE 11 on a PC with lots of script errors related to "console"
the script errors have subsided but the site is unusable in IE11 .
Chrome, fine, but not IE"

@svetius

I was going to post this.
Can also confirm this on IE11 on Windows 10.
Both Chrome and Edge can load the page just fine. IE used to work so a recent change messed it up.

Any information?

I pinged svetius, but he did not reply.
Maybe @MikeChannon can say more.
Thanks. :fingers-crossed:

does zoom out to like 90% help?
admins are busy and don't always reply even if they have seen the thread
also maybe @bitpushr could help

Does this still happen?

still not good on ie 11

@bitpushr
It still happens.
Using IE11 the website appears all messed up.
Not the XDA Website but just the forums.
Opening the Programmer Tools (F12) shows that even though the HTTP Header requests the page to be rendered in "Edge" mode the page actually gets rendered in IE7 mode instead.
Changing <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge"> to <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=11"> on the HTTP header seems to fix the issue here.

This had to do with the order of the meta tag for IE mode. It should now be fixed (thanks @webworker01!)
Let me know if you are still having problems viewing the site in IE.

Thank you!
It's much better!
I see problem only when post reply.

normal view.
thanks

Now i have new problem my IE freeze when i open xda I can't do anything. Only Task Manager helps. Mozilla work perfect, no problems.

Yes , same here on IE. Ad scripting has gone berserk, making it unusable again in IE.
Using ad block plus helps a little, but it really only stays usable for a few pages worth of clicks.
for me, the breakage DID seem to coincide with Microsoft Patch Tuesday , (the fix to the header from earlier n the thread seemed to make things okay) but I couldnt swear to Windows update being the cause.
I'm on Windows 10 IE11

Yes, we've confirmed this ourselves, that IE is causing issues with freezing.
Hopefully someone will wake @bitpushr up and he'll work his magic :good:

Any updates? This is really killing my at work browsing since I'm limited to IE11.

How hard can it be to fix this?
Just roll back to the last version of the forum software that actually worked.
This has now been going on for a month ...

iPhone Places

In the last couple of days all my iPhone-toting friends have been showing off their Places app which logs their location to their Facebook profile, along with a map link. Apparently it never worked before, but now it does.
It's a total load of cr*p, but in the interests of showing them that Android can do anything the iPhone can (usually better), and also to shut them up, I'd like to know if there's some way I can have that functionality on my Desire. Just so I can do it the once and say "It's a waste of time which is why no-one on Android uses it"
Any ideas?
Android user can also use this feature if you go to the facebook mobile site with your browser. However I have no doubt this feature will pop up in the next facebook app update.

Where exactly do i need to go on the mobile site? I'm looking at it now...
Found it on the Touch Facebook site - thanks!

I think the places thing could be a security risk. Even if you don't put your location, a friend can tag you as being in a location. The only way out of this is through changing privacy settings to opt out.

actually i think this is a cool feature which is meissing in android...
anyway, android facebook app is still crap compared to iphone app, hope thw dev will release better one soon...

This is odd. I don't haver this feature. Maybe it's country specific.
I'm using 4sq and it updates my location to both facebook and twitter.

Pretty sure its location specific. I was in the states a couple of weeks ago when they were trialling it there. Came back an it wasn't available in the UK until recently. Still in a testing phase I believe. Will no doubt have a bigger roll out with the next update to the Facebook app.
At present it's only available in the US and the UK, the rest of Europe will receive it soon.
As above it'll probably be in the next Facebook app update, whenever that comes along...
i just made a page for us who seem to get left till last by facebook .. its on facebook.com/pages/Equal-Applications
i suppose its kinda encouraging them to make our apps good and not just focus on ipods
hope people that feel the same jump on and add their views

Firefox and the Thanks button

I guess my html code issues were only the tip of the iceberg. XDA made some changes sometime within the past weekend that has made the Thanks button invisible to me. If I switch to IE Tab I can see it, but in my native Firefox, it is gone. I've cleared the cache, browsing history, everything, and I can't get it back. Any help would be appreciated, I can't stand Internet Exploder
Same here. I don't have the thanks button.
Firefox 3.5.16
Did this just happen to you this weekend, hav0c? I am on Firefox 3.6.13.
I'm on FF 3.6.13 and I can see the Thanks button

That's good to know - so it's got to be something going on with our own installations. I see when I switch to IE Tab that there are many ads I'm not seeing on FF (there's a reason for that - I don't do ads, I contribute) I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I use AdBlock Plus.
ETA Ha! It is there, it just isn't visible until you hover over where it should be! Veerry interesting......but stoopid (only old folks like me will recognize that quote )
For the record, the Thanks button has magically reappeared. Nothing was done on my end to make it so.
i can't see it but pointer changes to hand from arrow when i hover in the right place... had to look this thread up to find the right place!
google chrome v 9.0.597.102
mac os 10.6.6 snow leopard build 10j567
a mystery to me... although I feel a little better to see I'm not the only one - was terrified for a moment there that I was losing my mind!

No, you haven't lost your mind, and it will magically reappear at some point - no one here will explain why, though. It seems to have something to do with server load, from what I can tell.
iam on firefox 4 with windows 7 and i cant see "thanks" button either.............any progress in solution for this?
on my iPad i can see thanks button so i think it is firefox related problem ???
If you can see this image then you should see the button...

If neither of them show you the thanks button then there's something strange going on.

To the website developers

Please remove the force IE8 tag from the site. It is making a lot of features go a bit crazy. The edit box cursor does not like to move over in some cases. Also IE9 keeps saying that it is blocking some javascript to prevent cross domain scripting. I think there is a rogue advertisement or something.
<meta http-equiv="x-ua-compatible" content="IE=8" />

Why are you trolling? There is nothing wrong with Internet Explorer.
No seriously. I'm not trolling. I'm genuinely asking why you are still on IE. Is there a specific reason? i'm asking because basically every other browser is better (UI, user experience, security)wise.
Because from a security standpoint Internet Explorer 9 is safer than the other browsers. Do some research into SSL spoofing on firefox as well as cross site scripting attacks.
Alright! Another IE9 brother.
And we've sent this up the chain to our server admin.

Chrome? Too used to it already
I use IE mostly for compatibility, I know, sounds strange but most of the important sites I go to work best in IE.
Otherwise I use firefox which is nearly as good in that respect and better in others.
Chrome I found to be a huge resource hog, and Opera often fails to display pages properly, either getting the layout wrong or failing to show images hosted on my webserver used in my sig.
Although unlikely, our server admin is testing this right now to make sure it doesn't break any other versions of IE.

Stock browser

Hi everyone, I'm new here.
I really love the stock browser it supports flash which many other browsers now don't. The problem I am having is internet pages are taking 5 mins to load sometimes I have to reset it because it takes so long and the loading bar doesn't move.
Is anyone having this problem? What can I do? I have looked on the app store other browsers do not support flash anymore I used to use opera mobile.
Thanks people.

Try clearing the data and cache out of the stock browser and see if that speeds things up. IMO however Chrome is the best and quickest browser available (and it supports Flash I think)
Hi and welcome
i'm having the same prob as you but it's been happening to me randomly on and off for years, i guess it can't be rom related or even phone related so it must be the signal/reception in the area ... have you tried on wifi?
Chrome doesn't support flash otherwise I would use it as it is really good. Stock is good just has its moments when it doesn't work. I haven't had any problems with wifi on so far but then I have only started having problems with the browser today. It might just be the reception and the signal like you said due to the rain (In the UK).

That's a shame. When Chrome comes out of Beta then im sure it going to support Flash (desktop version already has it built in).
When is it coming out of beta?

I have the same problem, with the stock browser and chrome. "connection to the server timed out". I actually sold my original X because of it. It's not as often on my new one.
My DHD was the same, but at least "Force stop" fixed the problem. No such luck with my X.

Hi All,
Having some issues logging into this site on my Chrome and Firefox web browsers. The input boxes for User and Password don't appear in either.
However MS Edge is working fine.

My guess is your screen resolution isn't working well with xda, so some content is off screen.
try changing the screen settings, or switch the xda theme, at bottom of page on left.
Try Yandex Browser. All chrome plug-ins work fine.
I have zero issues when using it. It is a more secure build of Chrome.
Adblocker?
I had the same problems. Turned my Adblocker uBlock in Firefox of and it worked fine again.
The admin are working on a lot of things currently. Firefox was an issue that I know they are aware of. Please try to remain patient and hopefully this will be sorted out soon.
:good:
It's been broken for a lot longer than this thread
Come on XDA, love this site but this bug has existed for a long time and it must affect your user engagement.
Trying to login is a nightmare for me on desktop and impossible on mobile. Login input fields don't appear in Chrome on the sticky dropdown or the account login page and the entire sticky menu is broken in IE. It appears but the dropdowns contain no items and the user icon and burger (3 line) icons do nothing when clicked.

No problem logging on here, from any Browser, via PC or mobile. Try cleaning your temp files and or links.
Did you try to reset?
This problem has now changed for me. I can now get the login form to appear if I disable AdBlock Chrome extension and login successfully. I still can't login using Internet explorer which shows a different header layout to Chrome (don't use it so don't care). Also worth mentioning Edge still works fine with XDA, damn you Edge.
All previous problems and continuing ones were/are all still present after fresh browser install (IE, Chrome and Edge) with no extensions and running incognito (or equivalent) on 2 different PCs and one Android mobile (only tested Chrome on mobile).
Also for reference in case anybody cares:
Chrome header:
Internet Explorer Header:
EDIT: Apparently image insert isn't working. FFS. Whatever.
