US991 Unlocked - VoLTE or Simultaneous Voice & Data - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I picked up an unlocked LG G4 US991 from Buydig via eBay the other day. I got the phone today and was on a call and needed to use data and realized that data did not work. I currently have a Verizon sim that I noticed it did not work on . I also have a T-Mobile sim. Is it possible to enable or use VoLTE or Simultaneous Voice & Data on the US991 with Verizon service or T-Mobile service?
I don't have the T-Mobile sim right now to test it out at the moment.
Thanks.

Since T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, WCDMA (3G GSM) does support simultaneous voice and data.

Thanks for the reply.
I popped the T-Moble sim in over the weekend and was able to do simultaneous voice and data, which is great.
I just wish there was a way on this phone to do it on a CDMA carrier.

CDMA does not support simultaneous voice and data unless the phone uses 2 radios.

I am interested in your experience with tmobile service with this phone. I have read that some people had issues after upgrading to marshmallow. Wondering if those were just a couple isolated incidents. Could you share a little more info please? Thank you

I'm sorry I should've been more specific. I meant VoLTE to support simultaneous voice and data on a CDMA carrier with this phone.

I'm not familiar with the issues, but so far so good with T Mobile's service. The phone came with lollipop installed and I upgraded it to Marshmallow over wifi before I popped in the T-Mobile sim card. The GF uses it with their service and has had no problems so far. All the different data modes work from LTE down to 2G, messaging and calls work as well.

Wifi Calling?
Hi. Thanks for the info.
Does US991 permit T-Mobile's Wifi Calling, which I believe is linked to its ability to provide free Gogo In flight free texting on major airlines?

No it does not have the wifi calling ability. That only comes on T-Mobile branded phones.

I'm also wondering how to activate Advanced Calling on the US991 model for Verizon. I have it activated on my account I just cant seem to be able to make it work on the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

From what I can see in the hidden settings menu, it is not possible. This version of the phone does not support VoLTE. When you click on VoLTE in the hidden menu it tells you something along the line of it not being supported.

N910V No signal in Argentina

Hello everyone,
I bought a Unlocked Note 4 from Verizon in USA. In Argentina I don't have signal. We use GSM so it should work right. I know this device has not root access. I just want to make some calls or messages.
It doesn't let me search network manually. It throws an error "error searching networks"
Android Version: 4.4.4
Network Mode: Global/GSM
Somebody could help me on this.
Thanks in advance.

I am in Europe past month, leaving to us in few days and was using my note4 in GSM mode all the time and switching between carriers on a prepaid sim. I would do factory reset or maybe get a new sim.
My prepaid sim allows roaming on all carriers.

Which carrier are you using this on? Verizon has always used CDMA for 3G, not GSM. The Verizon Note 4 (SM-N910V) does seem to have limited GSM support, but it might not work on every GSM carrier.
This website seems to be pretty accurate: http://www.willmyphonework.net/
Acording to that page my phone should work perfectly
with 2G, 3G, 4G LTE.
I'm using:
Brand: Samsung
Model: SM-N910V
Country:Argentina
Carrier:Claro Argentina
I don't know what is the problem.:crying:
You may need to add new APN settings before it will work.
On mine, the option to add a new APN is disabled, but I'm actually using mine on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card, so I'd have no reason to edit the APN settings manually. Are you able to edit yours?
I already set the APN and nothing happens. I'm not sure APN could be the problem. Should be something else.

I have an Oneplus One with the same APN and works perfectly. That's why I think the APNs are not causing the problems of signal. I still having no signal. I cant make neither a call nor send a message.

Hmm sorry bro not sure what is going on.. last thing I could suggest if you have some money to spare try any other sim card from different provider or ask a friend to swap it for a minute or two, anything to test that it's not your carrier somehow not wanting to work with VZW N4.

Hey I read something couple days ago and forgot to get back at you.. I read somewhere if you block activation agent it should work some people on T-Mobile USA had the same issue. Use debloater to block activation agent on boot. They said this could be because the note could never been activated on Verizon even for 30 seconds and this is why it might be happening.
So block activation agent, and setup wizard so it's blocked on EACH BOOT.
Let me know

I do not have any dummy sim from Verison.

Verizon and the OnePlus 3?

Howdy!
So I've read that the OnePlus 3 is not compatible with Verizon, but if you look at the bands it's only missing Band 13. Wouldn't the others still work?
Thanks!
I will report on July 1 when my opo arrives.

Verizon's primary band is Band 13 (700c) according to this website below.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Chea...on-T-Mobile-and-Sprint-use-in-the-USA_id77933
Maybe the band will become editable by a rom. But who knows
700mhz B13 is not really a "primary" band it just happens to be what Verizon first launched.
I highly doubt that we will see 700 B13 on the OPO3. Vzw is rumored to be rolling out B2 1900 but I'm not sure if it's officially launched in any markets. There is also the fact that vzw uses CDMA BC0 800mhz, which if I read the specs correctly is supported by the OPO3.
All this being said I doubt the OPO3 will work fully supported by vzw.
Of course there are some brilliant people in the xda community who can probably shed some more light on the subject.
It will work with Verizon 3G I saw in a review video. Not LTE tho.
Sent from my VK815 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It has LTE bands 2 and 4, thus if VZW has LTE bands 2/4 in your area then it should work. I'm having issues getting the LG-H830 working, but it doesn't have CDMA. It connects to band4 in my area but no icon, since I believe it needs CDMA for auth.
I haven't tried this yet but you may be able to add band 13
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059
Do you think a call to VZW customer care would allow one to know what bands are in an area? You'd obviously need to get an upper level service tech on the line...but could they tell you?

I would say waste of time based on my experiencettalking to them. Better off using apps to figure it out. If you don't have Verizon, just visit the store nearest to you and install LTE Discovery on a display phone.

Why would it not work on LTE? It supports bands 2 and 4. If your area is VZW band 13 only then yeah it won't get 4g signal.
Sent from my rooted and BL unlocked LG-H830 using XDA-Developers app
Surprisingly Skizzy034 is correct, 3G (eHRPD) works. I had to enable data roaming first, but I can make/receive calls, sms, mms, and cellular data.
I've also been able to force a connection to LTE. However, when I do this sms, mms and calls don't work (data only).
Basically there is no transition between 3G and 4G.
I've messed around with the build.prop to see if I can get the phone to treat 4G as the preferred connection and only use 3G for sms, mms, and calls but I havent made any progress.
I'm confident that with help from the dev community we can actually get this thing working fairly well on vzw.

Did you pull the VZW apn xml file from a VZW phone and swap out yours? I can send if needed. I would like to buy OP3 and I use Verizon, so I'm definitely interested in what you're trying to accomplish.
What do you mean by forcing LTE? Setting RAT to LTE only?
Sent from my rooted and BL unlocked LG-H830 using XDA-Developers app
The APNs appear to have auto configured (attached a screenshot).
When I say "forced into LTE" I have manually changed the RAT to LTE only. This only appears to only work consistently on CM based roms. I did get OOS to lock onto LTE once but I've not been able to do it again.

If you set RAT to auto do you get both CDMA and LTE? On stock vzw phones, it seems multi APNs are used (VZWIMS and vzinternet)
Were you able to unlock band 13 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059)? What LTE band are you connected to? LTE Discovery app from play store can provide that info if you need.
Have you tried:
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=10 ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Verizon ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=311480 gsm.sim.operator.alpha=Verizon gsm.sim.operator.numeric=311480 gsm.operator.alpha=Verizon gsm.operator.numeric=311480
Sent from my rooted and BL unlocked LG-H830 using XDA-Developers app
I have not tried any of those things.
I'm hesitant to bother with attempting to unlock band 13. I spent a lot of time working on that on my opo1 and didn't work.
But I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm on vacation and don't have access to a PC so gonna be a few days. But I can apply the build.prop edits in the next few hours.
I made the build.prop edits you suggested jhasty01. Unfortunately they had no effect.
I'm going to work on unlocking Band13. Because I'm a market that is almost 100% covered by Band4 it is difficult to tell if Band13 is actually working. Perhaps I could disable Band4 but I'm hesitant.
I'm really hoping some of the devs who have worked with RIL can land a hand.
The larger obstacle is getting the RAT to conditionally handoff.
Any updates? Hoping so, would like to buy!
Some possibly helpful information from https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/trying-to-get-op3-working-on-verizon.452925/
Not sure if this is the case for Verizon but it is a known issue for ATT customers have LTE connection issues.
CAUSE: The IMEI for both sim slots are listed to only be set to receive 2G (H), hspa network. So if you contacted your service provider and registered your sim card with either of OP3 IMEI's, then you will not get LTE.
WORKAROUND: get your service provider to put your IMEI back to a previous phone that had LTE service.
NOTE: I had the same issue because I had to get a new Sim card because I went from a microsim to a nanosim. You access your phone information, by dialing *#*#4636#*#*. It will show your "Network type" only as hspa instead of LTE. There is no way to force it to LTE on your end, you have to contact your service provider.

Make sure you enabled roaming!
*Update*
Using qpst+qdxm I attempted to set radio/modem to prefer vzw bands and possibly enable B13. I was able to make the changes but the NVRAM resets to default values after power cycling. There is an NVRAM patch for the OnePlusOne which I flashed but it did not play well with the OPO3 and resulted is reboots and black screens. I tested all this on one of the recent CM builds.
I modified the build.prop to force "LTE only" (ro.telephony.default_network=11). Since I use Google Voice/Hangouts for calls and text I can make due.
I have reached out to @Mentor.37 who has been helping patch CDMA phones with GSM caoabilities to work better on GSM networks. He understands what the goal is and said mid-late August he should be able to help. @jhasty1 I only get 3G/eHRPD when roaming is enabled. No matter what ROM the RAT will not automatically transition from 3G44G. I have tried almost every ROM and modified what I thought might help with in the build.prop.
@jhasty1, as for the thread you mentioned (https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/trying-to-get-op3-working-on-verizon.452925/) there is a lot of conflicting information. There are many who say the OPO3 will not work on VZW. Well it is working, I'm using it to write this. I also had the OPO1 working on VZW using B4 LTE data.
As it stands, unless forced into "LTE only" the default RAT is 3G/eHRPD.
If we get some dev support I believe the phone could work very well.
---------- Post added at 02:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 PM ----------
I've been able to attach to LTE on bands 2,4 and 5. Now as far as I know vzw has not began using band 5. I think what's happening is I'm roaming on att for some reason.

Hidden features/menus in the Unlocked Galaxy S9 G960U1 - Megathread

Howdy,
As many features are missing (disabled) on the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9 bought directly from Samsung. I started digging deep and I found quite interesting things.
1) Wi-Fi Calling and HD Voice (VoLTE)
As someone who upgraded from an AT&T S6 (G920A), it didn't make sense to me that I was unable to get the same (or better) voice call quality in my Galaxy S9.
Using Tasker (the automation tool), I was able to see couple interesting apps:
HD Voice Settings
Outgoing HD Voice Settings
3 Wi-Fi Calling apps
Screenshots:
{

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Both HD Voice Settings and Outgoing HD Voice Settings are inaccessible. I tried turning on the Wi-Fi Calling in the last app, but as soon as you exit it goes back to off.
However, there's an app called LTE test that caught my attention. It has a menu option where you can test VoLTE.
Screenshots:
* P.S. It is worth noting that whenever I ask Bixby to turn Wi-Fi Calling, it goes to Network settings and gets confused. *
2) Dual-Sim Possibility?
In one of the screenshots above, there's a SIM 2 option in one of the 3 "Wi-Fi Calling" apps. In addition to that, I found another mention for SIM 2 (Slot 2) in an other app called Network settings. Therefore, theoretically speaking, there's a high chance that the hardware is there.
Screenshot:
Any contribution would be appreciated!
As far as I know, HD Voice and WiFi calling are not firmware related, but carrier related. Meaning that they are there (in the firmware) but they are activated only if the carrier allows it - depending on their infrastructure, subscription/pre-pay etc.
In my case, I have HD Voice and WiFi calling, but I can't find RTT.

What about HD voice
I am doing research about it too. It is related with csc. For example on my unlocked s9 I flashed the h3g UK firmware and the option stays on when you exit the menu but for me it is impossible to use because I live in Italy but don't have h3g so sip values are not correct
Can you elaborate? I purchased an unlocked S9, and I'm on AT&T. Are you saying you received an update that enabled hd voice and wifi calling?

G710PM apn locked/greyed out

Evening all.
Forgive new if this has been asked, but i wasn't able to find any results when searching.
Seems I've joined ranks off a duped eBay shopper. Ordered a G710ULM, turns out it was a G710PM..... "Issue with title" riiight. It's GSM unlocked for all GSM carriers, but the APN setting is locked. And fails to register. Seller is willing to refund, but if i can get into the APN settings and configure for cricket, I won't care if it's from Sprint.
Any solutions, or should i refund and look for a non-Sprint version?
Thanks.
Really what i am looking for is someone to confirm they have an unlocked G710PM phone, not just SIM unlocked, and are able to add the correct APN settings for their carrier.
Thanks
*#546368#*710#---Field Test---Modem Settings---PDP Setting---[5]APN Setting
Thanks I'll give that a shot and see what happens
Ussd code running.....connection problem or invalid mom code.
Using ##3282# gets me into some settings, but no service code, no edit. I'm guessing UICC unlock is not the same as being "unlocked". Any firmware or software changes when using an unlock service?
I have the same problem.
Just bought it. Seller showed me the phone with a Cricket SIM and it work on calls, text and data.
Manage to connect to MetroPCS network but just calls and texts.
APN settings are greyed out. No way to enter a new one.
I have the G710EM and while I can add new APNs, I can't get rid of the now obsolete one that the phone took from my SIM card when I first fired it up. I've had LG phones before and been able to delete unwanted APNs but with this one, the fields are all greyed out. Is this not the region lock, where you have to put in an European SIM on first use?
I have searched the internet high and low for a solution to this issue. and have gotten nowhere. I gave my sprint g7 unlocked to a friend who is using straight talk. calling texting and data work. but no LTE. this is the same for any phone i give her and all she has to do is change the APN and everything works flawlessly. unfortunately on this phone, it wont let her add or edit an APN. Does anyone have any kind of update on this?
I just purchased the LG G7 ThinQ model LG-G710PM for $164. Same issue with the APN being greyed-out. Won't fully work with my Consumer Cellular SIM (only for text and calls, but no data). I'm wondering if it will work if I change the carrier to T-Mobile?
Hi,
I created an account just to help out with this problem, go to google app store and install an app called AddAPN. when u do, open it, enter the required settings and save, then restart your phone n walllaaaaah,
You are all set to use your device
Let it be Christmas everywhere

Holy cow! I've been through major hell with the APN issue for months now and no major carrier would support the G710PM according to the IMEI compatibility check. Thank you very much! Happy New Year!!! You've saved the day!

The AddAPN worked after a few attempts when I finally entered/saved the specific APN info for my phone plan. I am now able to keep my great phone and my carrier. Imagine the complications I went through with the disabled APN screen and for months no tech person could tell me how to get around it. Now this bad-assed LG G7 ThinQ can access data! Thanks again!
u welcome

Blitzo, thank you! Yesterday I transferred my PagePlus cell number from a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to the Note 20 5G Ultra. I haven't been able to get around the "ungreying" the APN settings until now due to your help! I still don't have mobile data, but at least I am closer to the solution!!

How to prevent XZ2 Compact from using VoLTE ?

Hi. I have a XZ2 Compact since a couple of weeks. My contract (Congstar, using german T-Mobile network) includes 4G for data, but only 2G/3G for calls. So the phone should change to 2G/3G mode if I call someone or someone call me. Sadly it only does, if there is 4G coverage at the beginning of the call. If there is only 2G/3G coverage at all I can't call anyone. So the phone always try to use VoLTE first before the network force it to use GSM for calls.
How can I force the phone to avoid VoLTE at all? I know there should be a option for this in the connections menu, but it's just not there. I tried a hard reset and I also flashed another firmware which I downloaded with XperiFirm. At the moment I have 52.0.A.8.50 installed.

Usually no button means no support
I would ask the Sony support about this problem.
It may be a software bug.
So there is no quick solution? I would like to use my phone without waiting for a bugfix And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only user of this phone in germany and this "LTE only for data" sim card are pretty common here.

I am a German user too, but with O2.
It's working here without any problems.
Like VoWIFI

As you maybe know, O2 support VoLTE and Wifi Calling for all customers, also for reseller like blau, ay yildiz etc.
T-Mobile and Vodafone only allow VoLTE and Wifi Calling for their own customers, not for reseller like Congstar, Otelo etc.

So I would ask the sony support, if it won't show a disable button.
Or use a SODP based custom rom. (Here VoLTE and VoWIFI is on the todo list).
Maybe one of the many listed adb props helps you, too.

But that would be just a forced disabling via ADB.
Not fixing the root cause of the issue.
Sony answered very fast, but just said I should contact my network provider. Well, useless as they only care about devices customers bought directly from them and not on the free market.
