Bad Motherboard? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought my brother a second-hand M8. It had a cracked screen but it was really cheap. I put the new screen in and a new SIM card reader. Everything worked fine for months and out of the blue the screen stopped responding to touch. Everything else worked fine as far as I could tell. Even in TWRP touch was gone so I figured maybe it was a cheap screen or something like that. I took it apart and the backlight was falling apart. Ordered a new screen that had the frame with it to save time on reassembly and because the old one was a little tweaked. Same problem, ran the RUU from Windows, ran different RUU's from several threads via Fastboot. Ran the latest firmware package on Santods thread and still nothing. It has to be the motherboard at this point right? The display and digitizer cables go right into the motherboard and the only cable that looks replaceable goes up int the daughter board with the cameras and top speaker assembly. Am I missing something or should I just scrap this mess?
4/5/16: I have since purchased a used motherboard from eBay. This has corrected the issue with the digitizer not working. The SIM card will not be recognized now is the problem I am fighting with. It was giving me this issue before on the old phone but it was off and on. I got it to work once with the new motherboard installed. I have RUU's and everything. This motherboard is S-ON and I don;t want to waste another $25 on Sunshine if the problem isn't software related. I have also replaced the daughterboard and the flex cable as well as used a different SIM Card reader. I am out of ideas at this point.

Does anyone know if there is a way to make sure a motherboard from eBay will work?

No one has any idea?

In my case, as I took my M8 apart because of cracked screen and as I put it back together my M8 couldn't recognize my Sim and what helped in my case was that I've put a piece of thicker tape on my Sim just so it is thicker than it was and since then everything works flawlessly.
Hope this helps you,
Regards Talpes

[Q] Just replaced digitizer and home button and left side of screen arent working

A customer brought her G2 on simple mobile to me with this problem: The letter "A" wont work on portrait mode nor will the home key. I figured it was the digitizer so I replaced that with an OEM Replacement part and as soon as we booted back up the problem was still there. Could it be her OS is corrupt or possibly a warp in the case thats keeping the plate from contacting the faceplate. I'm rather stumped as I ran a logcat and I saw nothing out of the ordinary during normal input. Any help is appreciated.
Touch plate? I am confused to what you mean by this. I am not too familiar with the electronic construction of a digitizer so any info would be helpful.
The digitizer isn't coming in contact with the face plate I believe. (Sorry I used like three different words to describe the same thing in my previous post) Any tips on how to fix that would be great. I saw a video on youtube that stated a part where a heat gun would be used but I never came across a front panel (The part with "T-mobile" on it so I installed the digitizer and went along). I think I may have messed up.
i have the same problem, i dropped the phone, and the touch screen was broken, i replaced it but now the left side and home button arent worksing
ps the broken screen worked still also on the left side , did you find a solution ?
I have the same problem.
I believe it's the ribbon cable, not the Digitizer. The ribbon cables on this phone hangs between both screens and is fairly exposed at times.
I still have a couple weeks in my warranty to return it to HTC, but I can't get it to S-on. Unless I get S-on before warranty is up, I'm going to have to replace it myself.
Ribbon cables for this phone cost ~$30 on ebay. tell me if you fix it.
Any luck with this, anyone?

If your Touchscreen/Home buttons are not working (Probable Error)

About two months ago, my screen decided to die. I ended up getting a new phone, but I still had my Play sitting here bothering me. So I decided to get to fixing it.
When I tore it apart, I thought that the digitizer had died, but what I found was actually the connecting the digitiser, LCD and Buttons together was damaged.
So I ordered one on ebay for about $10. When I got the cable, it seemed to be about 3-4CM shorter than the OEM one. Which supports why I think this may have been a design error on Sony's part. What was happening was Sony's god awful mechanism for sliding the screen up and down had pinched the cable, and caused it to be damaged.
I know this might be a longshot, but I think that some people might be able to save a dead device by replacing this one simple part, I know it worked wonders for my play, as well as a friends.
I will post a link to the part as soon as my post count is up.
So not the digitalizer?

I am having this problem as well. touchscreen doesn't work nor does the home button. Volume down button seems to fail while in CWM recovery as well. I was thinking about replacing the digitizer but now I'm not so sure. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated
If OP's saying what's busted is the part where all the digitizer, physical buttons, and LCD converge, that's the SLIDER FLEX. I replaced mine twice already. It gets pinched very easily. That's the weakness of slider phones. You have to accept that from the moment you decided to buy the Xperia PLAY. It happens to all sliders, live with it, face it.

need help - touchscreen fix

noticed that my touchscreen is becoming unresponsive lately so i thought that changing the multitouch might solve it. the thing is, after selecting 4 touch, touchscreen becomes totally unresponsive. i tried wipe and even flashing stock os but touchscreen is still the same.
did i screw up my touch screen? how will i know? any known repairs or fix.
thanks
Sounds like your digitalizer (the glass above the screen) is busted and needs replacement. If your phone is under warranty, claim it, if not - get a new digitalizer and if you can't change it yourself, take it to a repair shop.
Changed the digitizer but still no response

switch ROM
You said that you flashed back to stock, but how about flashing to another ROM, I mean one that has a completly diferent multitouch enabler... that might work.

i was able to flash stock and it means i have no root nor recovery. and adb debugging is not enabled. i am out of ideas how i will be able to solve this.
After flashing stock ROM do you face the same issue with a new Digitizer?
yes. doesnt respond to anything except volume and power. even the 4 touch buttons doesn't work. i was thinking that i have received a bad digitizer or it is a motherboard issue. with the latter i have no idea how to check

I had recently taken my Defy to a service center. I just wanted to change the earpiece and the side casing. While replacing the side casing (while removing the Digitizer) they damaged the digitizer. The main touch portion was working but the 4 soft keys were not. They replaced the digitizer and everything was fine again (had to pay for it )
If you can carefully handle the phone, you can open up the casing and try reconnecting the digitizer to the board. (Do not remove the digitizer from the casing only reconnect the cable).
Replacement is better done by a service center as it requires careful handing.
I did open the phone, removed and reconnected the cable, still the same. also tried 2 new digitizer still the same result. I guess it us the mother board . Any ideas where to get replacement board ?
Thanks

i have got the same problem like you and i have solved it.
Do compass calibration like spin the phone 3 times in flat condition (laying down face up), then have the phone standing up and rotate 3 times, then on one side, rotate 3 times and then move your defy in the shape of number "8" in the air. Re-open the screen. it is suppose to bring back your screen work like it was nothing happened.
only for my defy i've tried never did this for another but from what i see you have nothing to lose here
Tried the calibrating thing and also a new digitizer. doesn't work. So it is the motherboard.
Anyone knows where to get mother board
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
Getting a new board is like getting a new phone - new IMEI, price for the board should be very similar to the pricw for a new phone too. If you think about it, it IS the phone. What's there in the phone other than the board a screen and a digitizer...
Guess you're right.

Replacing the screen

I have broken screen on my htc desire hd, i have replaced the LCD+digitizer before. i know my way around this phone.
Is it easy to replace just glass screen ?
I cant see how i can seprate them. they are glued in this black glue thingy.
Better buy whole LCD + digitizer?

I need to do the same. Also since dropping the phone my Bluetooth turns on and off but doesn't always connect. (highlights or ticks option , but I'm not getting anything on the top bar). I disconnect and re-connect a few times to get it working
While I have the phone apart is there anything I can do to fix it?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III using Android Revolution HD
I just replaced the glass only on mine. Unfortunately, the touch screen isn't responding. Anyone know where I might have gone wrong??? Everything else seems to work fine!
Probably a Ribbon Cable.

Try taking it back apart and re-place the ribbon cables back in there seat, they may not be making proper contact. If you replaced the glass without taking it apart you probably un-seated one of the cables. When working on iPhones there is a cable that is only held in place once you close it and put the phone back together.... It's a PITA.
Buy new part and dont replace . Your self its difficult. And its not easy
You can buy a "used" DHD device to replace yours. It'll be cheaper and easier... With a backup on sdcard, your device will be the same !

Touch not responding well after LCD replacement:

I recently replaced the LCD on my M8. It came attached to the LCD frame and everything. When the phone is out of the housing (or battery cover) everything works fine, but as soon as the phone is installed in the housing the bottom half (also a bit of the right side) of the digitizer doesn't work and doesn't respond to touch. I tried removing the phone from the housing again, and everything is back to normal and working just fine.
Is this something any of you have experienced before? Any idea what it could be, and how to diagnose the error.
All help is very much appreciated.

Am I maybe inserting the phone into the housing in the wrong way? I'm simply reversing the process of the online guides.
Does anyone found solution? Having absolutely the same problem...
Cheers
