Does anyone else have a yellowish tint on their sgsii? When I tilt the phone a little bit the display seems to be more white. Anyone experiencing this?
I have it too and have tried 3 different ones

I can see what you mean, didn't notice until you said something. It's very slight (at least for me). I don't know of any apps that can change the color output of the screen, but this is something I would think a root would allow us to change considering you can see a "whiter" color when you tilt the phone, we should be able to reproduce the color balance (I would think).
Okay, thanks for feedback I thought it was just my phone. Cause my friend has the epic 4g touch and he doesnt have this issue. Hopefully this will be "fixed" when we have root.

I hope so too but honestly I'd rather have this than too much "white" and end up with a blue-ish tint.
is it very noticeable?
or does it only seem like that from some angles?

I have the yellow tint as well. Ironically it's only when looking straight on the screen. Tilt slightly to any other direction and whites look perfect. I recall the Nexus S I played with had some tint issues with white as well.

Man im on epic touch and have same problem.I went to sprint store and their epic touch is perfect white-its deffinetly a defect.
Funny thing is I bought mine on amazon and exchanged it and my second phone got it too but not as bad now im on my third exchange.
I want be happy untill my gs2 looks like the one at sprint store.
Mine is white

Mine has a yellowish blue-green tint that shifts when I move the phone. It bugged me at first but I barely notice it now.

I apologize if my attempt at search terms didn't yet yield an answer that has already been posted.
On my Droid Charge if I tilted the phone up or down in portrait mode it would cause the screen to take on a blue hue. It turns out it was because of the screen protector I was using. Took it off, no problem.
However, I have no screen protector on my Galaxy Nexus, and I'm seeing the same thing occur. Since the screens are hardly the same (AMOLED+ vs AMOLED, different resolution, different size) I can't really tell if its normal. The demo model at my store was out of commission.
Anybody else notice this or is there something wrong with my screen? My friend said his doesn't do it, but I haven't seen it myself (he lives an hour away) and its possible he just isn't as picky as me
Thanks in advance.
I got the same thing on mines. Blue tint when not looking at screen straight.

A blue tint of some sort, or cool colors in general are a product of the Super AMOLED screens, yes.
I don't think Voodoo Color would fix it in this respect, because I think it either has to do with the coating on the screen itself, or the way the light is refracting based on viewing angle.
I could be wrong...
New Galaxy Nexus owner with Sprint. Well late last night I dim my screen cause it so freaking bright Noticed a lot of the greys turned purple and the white (stock messaging app) go a lot of grain in it. Looked like I had dust all in the screen. Is this normal? Looked similar to this picture
I play with my phone on minimum brightness all the time and have not noticed this.
It is possible I'm not observant enough though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
It's normal.
I don't get the purple hues...but I'm using custom color values.
Which have also reduced the grain. But it's still there.
I may be in the minority here...
But I hate this screen tech. It's my only complaint with this phone.
Nav-bar/Status-bar burn-in potential scares the **** out of me. (Although I don't have any yet...I have to assume it's because I'm so compulsive about hiding the nav bar and using apps that remove the status bar.) And the screen looks like complete crap when it's dimmed.
I mean, it looks GREAT at 30%+ brightness...but browsing in bed and such (low brightness scenarios) always makes me cringe a bit.
I currently have my old fascinate and nexus on hands.
I need to say that Samsung pretty much dropped the ball... :-(
Fascinate screen is so much better looking, though partially because custom ICS rom, which I guess incorporates voodoo tweaks.
I will happily wait while GN ICS gets to that state, but I afraid that it is hardware/ manufacturing process issue and I doubt if anybody will be able to fix it grammatically. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I heard something about gradient fix, but do not completely understand what was fixed and how.
My phone has a slight vertical tint on the right side. I pensive it as pink vertical stripe, followed by green one. Not extremely saturated, but noticeable at any brightness level. I've stopped by Verizon store to see if other phones have it. Out of two checked phones one had noticeable green stripe, another was OK to my eyes.
I got a deal on wirefly and now I'm kind of on the verge - exchange or not. I afraid to get one which will be even worse.
Well I just went back to Sprint and explain it to them. Well since the GN is new that Sprint has no tickets for the purple Screen. So the asshole tells me that it is a software issue and that the next ics update will fix the purpleish colors. I was like WTF it is a hardware issue hahah. I do thank you guys for responding. cant wait to get some Sprint roms avaialble. What do you guys think software issue?
No. its a hardware issue. My GSM doesn't have the purple tint at all. My fiance's first Verizon GNex was the same. One day it died and they sent her a new one and it's screen was very purple tinted. She sent it back and got a new one which didn't have the tint at all.
I would return it.
Thats exactly what I told them and they said to wait for an update. this pisses me off cause they wont let me exchange it at all.

i dont know if its hardware or software but you can try this. its supercurio's display expert and might help. it did get rid of most of the purple for me, still can see it with certain grays. as for the grainy white, my first galaxy nexus had that problem at low light too. its almost like a transparent cheese cloth over the screen and some lines running down it. i returned that one.
just keep trying with a different rep. the first one i talked to pretended not to see anything wrong with my phone so i talked to the manager and got the exchange after about 15mins. they were still very hesitant. try to call their call center first i find their call center reps are usually more understanding.

I have a purple tint, but only at brightness levels going below 15 (setting custom brightness with aokp), but the default brightness was at 19 so I never noticed until I started to mess with the settings. I think its normal, or at least I hope it is. Well now I want to ask, is it normal to have purple tints at really low brightness?
Three strikes and I am out. This is my first amoled screen so I am not really sure if it is supposed to be like it. I will try that apk and see if that works. Thanks buddy. I am honestly afraid to get another one and then it is fully a retarded phone so I will stick with it.
I'm unable to use that apk. Error says "There is a problem parsing the package"

Let me know how it goes, cuz I am rooted and running Franco kernel and still getting the purple tint.
the purple tint is still there for me too but the cold setting in that app helped a lot.
It is a hardware issue even though some software tweaks will help a little bit. My GSM gnex has this issue while my friend's gnex does not have it at all. I can't exchange mine because it is from Poland and I do not know anybody there. I just set the brightness to 50% and the issue is almost nonexistent. So my advice is to exchange it; try another store or speak to the manager. Good luck.

Ya for some reason for me thought it only happens are really low brightness. How about you?
I tried playing around with color calibration on one of my previous purple Galaxy Nexus phones. Got rid of the purple, but then things started looking too green or something.
Not sure how you can calibrate to fix colors at low brightness levels where purples become a problem and not screw up the colors when you increase the brightness levels. Doesn't seem like this would be a good solution.
I have just kept exchanging my phones. And I hate AMOLED, it's great when you get a good one, but it seems like Samsung can't make very many good ones.
Lol. If you're going below stock's lowest setting the purple graininess is normal. Get a grip people. Its a mobile screen and it has tolerances. If you get purple just lowest stock setting, I would say it is not normal but chances are Samsung will say it is within tolerance. I played with root dim the other day my screen got purple and grainy at 4/255 and below. Slightly grainy at 5/255 and 12/255. 13 and higher it was fine. 15/255 I believe is stock's lowest setting.
sent with 3g courage. better recognize. 4g courage coming soon. stock up on diapers.
My phone seems to have a gray issue. the lower 20% of the screens grays are much darker when it should be uniform. I can see that in horizontal view that the gray status bar gets noticably darker towards the affected area.. Whites also have a very veryyy slight pinkish purple tint. This is my second replacment S4. Is this common? Or should I deal with it since probably majority of these amoled screens suffer from this?
EDIT: whites have a pinkish purplish tint ONLY in the affected area. The unaffected area of the screen has perfectly correct colors as far as my eyes can tell
Yep this seems to be a common problem.
My s4 has this and lots of other people have reported the pink tint with their phones.
I'm on my second s4 as well. The first one had faint vertical lines on the screen.
Hopefully Samsung comes out w a fix for it.
The galaxy s2 had a similar issue where the left side of the screen had a yellow tint and it was fixed w a new update.
Thats dissapointing to hear. The screen is so beautiful usually. Then I notice the pink when reading websites or greys on the reddit app. Either I stick with this or go for the HTC one I guess

Yeah I was thinking of switching to the htc one as well but I really don't want to give up the 5 inch screen, user replaceable battery, and micro sd slot.
You can try another exchange but there's no guarantee they you will get a better screen and you may end up with another screen issue.
Hopefully we get a fix from Samsung on this.

Yeah I had this issue, I did three exchanges before I found one that was good enough for me to live with
I'm just sayin
Against my better judgement, I decided to try for another replacement to see if I could get a better screen.
No such luck. The third replacement still has the pinkish tint but it's at the top instead of the bottom. However the tint is actually worse than the second unit I had.
I'm pretty much done with replacements now and will just live with it.
Hopefully, Samsung comes out with a software fix for this issue.

Yeah they threatened me with " after this exchange, you'll have to go thru Samsung warranty" statement. I said well I'm not leaving out of this store with another screen like this. So I made them open the unit and make sure the issue wasn't prevalent or as bad as my previous unit. Good thing the first one they opened was acceptable for me to live with....... By the way it's not a software issue. Somewhere there are some inconsistencies with how the screens are manufactured.

The yellow tint issue was a bit different because the tint was applied throughout the entire screen, whereas with this issue it's prevalent in different areas of the screen. The only update they can issue to remedy this would be to replace the entire screen.

Just got my phone back from being S-OFF'd and decided to check my camera for a purple tint: http://imgur.com/a/NrAvJ#0. Is this what everyone's been talking about? If so, looks like I have a crappy unit.
What does the purple tint actually affect? I've noticed that my pictures with flash off turn out a bit blurrier, but I don't know if this is one of the side effects. I'd really like to trade in my unit for one that does NOT have this problem, but then I'd have to pay for S-OFF again.

This was with my phone lying flat down on a black leather chair. When I cover the lens with my finger, it just looks like the color of my finger because light is still getting in. If I cup the phone with my hand to block off the light, it's black and then I slowly see blue noise creep in after some time.

I'm really hoping this is the case, but I've read that it doesn't exactly make sense that it's a software issue since some units are on the exact same software without this purple tint? I'd hate for it to be a hardware issue that's simply swept under the rug by tweaking the software.

Not every phone is the same, there are multiple instances where one phone acts one way and another phone differently.
IF it is hardware I wont settle for anything but a brand new phone not taking a refurb on this phone.
I thought other people were seeing the purple tint in normal pictures. the images you posted just looks like low light noise. I normally see this type of low light noise when the sensor is pushed to hard by the software or the software is artificiality trying to add contrast in low light. I bet it is probably a combination of the sensor in your camera and the software. With any luck HTC can find a software fix for OTA. I know Motorola fixed the blue tint on my Droid 3 with a software update....

I agree, I sincerely hope that the VZW HTC One didn't use any cost cutting measures and this is a result of that and why it took so f*****g long to get to us.
and now I'm out $150 for being a loyal customer and buying my phone 1st day, had it been second day, I could have returned it but noooooooo.
I should have known they'd drop the price, but SO SOON!
HTC One Maxx must be REAL close..
Your phone isn't defective. That is the software trying to artificially induce contrast - if you take your phone and try some lowlight pictures you'll see it jump to a blue/purple/red tint as it tries to do its ultrapixel lowlight "magic". I can see this happen on mine too. The problematic phones are MARKEDLY worse.
I think a software fix will rectify the situation, and since HTC has acknowledged the issue, it will come in the next update. Unlike Samsung, whose sh*t Galaxy Nexus screens were so poorly made, yet they refused to acknowledge the problem.

The sensor is too good at what it does. Even with no light it is still trying to "sense up". Same effect seen on other ultra low lux cameras. Easily rectified with better software. It might just be that the sensors that exhibit this effect are actually better than the ones that don't.

Yep...this whole thread reminds me of my DSLR days and the Dpreview forums. Go take some real pictures and see what you get. If you still see purple casting on the picts then it is probably software. Now, you may see some purple fringing when there is bright light (ie sun) just off the edge. This happens with most phone cameras (and many regular). It would just be the bright light that would be purple though.
I am no expert but I cannot see how anything S-off would cause a purple tint/fringe.

He may mean the camera.apk from the CM 10.2 ROM but I am not sure either.
Sorry
Turn the iso down... What happens is the lens tries to open too much and is catching the ends of the light spectrum. Ex. Reds and blues. Other phones might not get these colors because the RF Stopper won't allow the lens to open up enough to start getting those colors

I saw at least one person mention that their camera wouldn't capture focus on anything further than 3 feet away. I was experience that problem too. This evening I was at a football game and was getting CRAP focus on the field. I was getting the people three feet in front of me in focus. I wondered if the lens was dirty. I wiped the lens with the camera app open and it forced a refocus and it finally grabbed focus out on the field. I tried shifting focus to other areas and focus was crap until I covered the lens and then let it refocus on the new item. Then it would grab a crisp image. If anyone else is encountering this issue, with the focal length not adjusting, I was curious what would happen if you tried the same thing.
Obviously this isn't ideal but it at least provides hope that software could remedy the issue.
