Cant write to external sd-card after lollipop update? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi guys wanted some help on this issue. I just updated my p600 to stock lollipop 5.1.1 btu. I previously had jelly bean 4.3 stock. I dont have root.
I use utorrent to usually download content direct on my external sd card but since the update it dont let do that anymore
I can download to internal sd but i sometimes download huge size files and dont have enough space on internal to do so.
I was wondering if theres any work around to download direct to external sd card? P.s. i dont have root and am fully stock due to warranty. Thanks

You are right. SD card did not work with cm-12.1-20151115-UNOFFICIAL-temasek-lt03wifi-V18.5.zip. But, go back to the October builds and the SD card works

Nope, google doesn't want you using sd cards so they prefer to make life hell for us...
If you wish to use the sd card to torrent, really fast way to kill sd cards by the way, then you will need to root . You will also need a custom kernel or you'll boot loop after rooting... Sorry...

First of all I admit that I am a noob in the android OS world
got 8GB sd card for my S5360, it keeps giving me this message: "Sd card removed unexpectedly", and rescans the SD which makes my device slow.
methods tried but didn't work:
1- reformatted the SD card via PC fat32 and FAT
2- reformatted the SD via linux and then via my phone
3- Sd boosting programs (most of them).
4- installed custom roms and mods
( HYBRID 4.0 , Creeds' ɷ Fusion v3.2, Repencis v3)
5-tried to repartition my SD.
guys all the methods above didn't work and I am about to smash my mobile phone ( though I am pretty poor) but my nerves are squeecking now
gratfull for any help ... thanks in advance
Reflash the latest stock firmware of your region.. People having old stock Indian firmware had these problems.. They had it solved by reflashing.. Check the doky73 thread in Android development.

Galaxy y usually comes with a 2 gb sd card (here atleast).. Try using any other sd card and notice if the problem reappears.. If it does its a software issue..
Also doky73 thread has 2-3 firmwares for the same region try flashing them all.. I think it's a definite rom issue

thanks and your help is highly apperciated
that's not really needed. if you turn off your device, the value will back to its original value. if you want to make it permanent you'll need a kernel with init.d support. you can make a script in init.d which contain
Code:
#!/system/bin/ah
echo "2048" > /sys/device/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb

[MOD]App2ExtSD2 [Works for all U.S. Galaxy S3!]

This is a hack that that allows you to swap internal storage with your external SD card so you can increase your app data storage.
All credits go to original i9300 App2ExtSD Hack by mattiadj. I simply hacked it to work with U.S. versions and also I've added code so it will disable this feature when you don't have a microSD card inserted (app storage will default to internal when no microSD card is inserted).
E.g. If you have 16GB internal storage on Galaxy S3, you can install this witih a 64GB microSD card and swap the storage and get 64GB on your app storage instead of 16GB.
Before you can use this, you will need:
1) Rooted Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535/SPH-L710/SGH-T999/SCH-I747) or also Canadian versions too (i747m, etc...etc...)
2) A ROM/kernel with init.d support!
3) I've only tested this with TouchWiz-based ROMs, so it should work on stock ROMs and any TouchWiz-based ROMs, not sure on CM9 or CM10.
4) You must use the FAT32 or EXTFAT zip file below, depending on what format your microSD Card is in! (e.g. if you have a FAT32 microSD card, use FAT32)
To get this working, simply flash the zip files in your CWM Recovery:
Download and Details:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-t...-external-microsd-for-u-s-canadian-galaxy-s3/
If you are on stock ROM or any TouchWiz-based ROMs, you can flash my new HighOnAndroid kernel to get init.d support on your phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30718496
If you do not have init.d support, you can also enable on any rooted phone by using Script Manager, here's a quick tutorial:
I recommend you to FORMAT your microSD card once to get camera working flawless before using this hack!
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).
Sounds awesome thanks

Is it best to wipe first, or will this move all the app data from the internal to the external for you?

It is best to do a wipe to start on a clean slate, or you can also copy the contents of your internal to external.
OR, I like using Titanium Backup to backup app and its data then restore after putting in the microSD card.
it works great, thanks for the mod, will report if I find any problem w/ it.
Great work max! I was using stock rooted rom.. Now I need to look for one I like that has int d support.
Thanks for this though appreciate it!

Would it be possible for you to create a Stock kernel with just the init.d supporthe?

I meant format. Sorry about that. Autocorrect got me again.
This is great! I'm curious if this mod sticks if I flash an updated/new rom? Do I need to flash this zip after I flash the rom? Also, what happens if I wipe my phone when I have this mod? Do I need to re flash as well?

[Q] Apps to SD on 7.0

I recently purchased a 7.0 and just realized that apps can't be moved to my SD card. Does anyone know if that is a hw limitation or do any of the few custom ROMs have this capability?
Thanks

I do have the T210R model. I'm on mk1 firmware. Let me make sure I'm clear. If I install custom recovery and root, the "Move to SD" option will become available in the App Manager menu? As it is now, the button does even show. Thanks.

External SD card issue.

I have an external sd card. It needs the fix for kitkat. But can not use the fixes in the market they all need root. How are you guys dealing with this issue.
You just have to deal with it until root is achieved, there is not way that I'm aware of to fix the KitKat SD card changes without root.
I don't get why we have to wait for root. If the phone supports 64gb sd card out the box why is this an issue. People that don't have xda experience will be thinking something is defective. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes I noticed that also. You shouldn't need root to fix that issue. Most people don't root there phones.

Use SD card in 6.0.1 as previously on 4.4.2

Updated my T700 to 6.0.1 and now unable to see SD card in some apps like system info an more.
There is a solution for this?
Same thing on my note edge with 6.0.1.
I want to be able to use SD card as I used it on 4.4.2 ( it acted as external storage there)

You need to update the apps or ask the author to update apps that don't work as they are not mm compatible.
All apps needs to ask specific permission to use the storage on MM. If they don't ask they're not compatible.
