Hey guys, I'm wondering something here.
First of all, check out the attached image to understand fully.
Now, my desire leaks light and sent to repair couple of times.
So please ignore the leak from underside of the brown "frame" since that part is now fixed.
However, the light leak from "HAL2000 eye" is NOT fixed at all, so I'm wondering,
Is this light leak normal? As in you guys got same kind of light leak from the side of the "HAL2000 eye" or is it faulty.
It's quite annoying when operating desire in the dark tbh.
Appreciate answers! Cheers.
Noticed a tiny part doing that but I don't notice it in day to day use - just happened to be clearing dust and saw it...
i don't know whether its normal but i've got a bit of light leaking on the left side of the optical eye and a little bit in the frame above the search button. But its not too noticeable to be honest. Yours seems to be leaking a bit more than mine.
@EddyOS
care to shoot some pics so I have something to compare?
@alio993
I reckon your frame is somewhat skewed/warped.
I was afraid it was entry way for dust to enter behind the screen meself.
Maybe you should get it fixed as well?
Got a silver Desire here and zero light leaking from the HAL button so it's not standard that it does, or im just lucky
There will be variation between all hansets to some degree due to manufacturing tolerances. Nothing is perfect!
True, but I think that's just bad QC if you ask me...
I have no light leaks, except out of the headphone port... And it looks like my trackball is much more accurately seated than the OP's... There's no visible gap anywhere around it, and its at pretty much the same level as the rest of the chin.

I have exactly the same. Left side of the optical ball and above the search. What are the odds?
Isn't it great that after a couple of updates, some tweaking and advice from the forums, silly non issue stuff like this is all we have left to moan about?
Great phone.

Yeah, I remember when some models had serious issues with creaking, dust and so on.. A bit of light leakage of nothing.
Mine has a bit to the left of the HAL. Not noticeable in normal use unless you turn of to the side and look closely.
Non issue? Think again.
If that light leak on the frame eventually become the entry point for the dust, The sensitivity for the screen can be compromised in the shorter span than 2 years.
Reduced sensitivity, maybe even dead 1/3 of the screen.
Do you really think it's non issue yet?

From the picture you've shown and the light leakage I'm seeing on mine, which I've never even noticed until actually looking for it, it would take an almost microscopic particle of dust to get in there. Not criticising you but I'm saying, it's not air tight. The holes for the speaker and the mic are several times larger than the pinholes of light you're talking about. Are you going to tape over the 3.5mm headphone jack?
Well, I noticed them the same evening I got Desire myself (without looking for them that is)
True, it's far from air tight, but I'm seriously hoping that HTC thought about those glaring openings (speaker et al)
But I doubt they thought about unintentional opening(s) caused by warped frame.
I noticed this too on my previous Desire and a colleagues one.
The new replacement I got has the same thing too and the same light pinkish tint on the lowest brightness setting (which is why I requested a replacement).
It's just a matter of luck frankly and it's why I've stopped caring anymore about these things.

Yes. I have the exact same 2 light leaks where you have them.
They dont bother me as I have a silicone fully body case and the buttons and the frames are covered now.
Hi all. Quick searching leads me nowhere as there are thousands of problems concerning issues I'm NOT having. Sorry for the crappy 3ds camera pic, it's the only thing I have at my disposal right now besides the phone. As I said in the title, I'm not using a screen protector - this is a stock phone right out of the factory with no accessories, albeit aged a bit.
If you'll take a look, you'll see two screen bubbles. The huge funky-looking one at the top started out looking like the one at the bottom, and grew over a period of a few weeks. The bottom one started out really small and doubled in size to what it is now, but has since stopped.
It's really annoying and starting to bother me, but I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar issues, or has any input whether or not I can maybe fix this thing without having to get a whole new screen/digitizer/whatever. No replacement plans on this phone so gotta figure something else out. Any idea what's going on?

Is the plastic actually raised up? Can you see it when the screen is off? To me it looks like the digatizer may be going out, but its hard to tell from a pic.
It appears to be sealed and working fine... just has bubbles. I don't really know much about the insides of this phone, but it almost looks as if whatever is behind the digitizer is slightly warped and might be causing some contact with the glass or something like that. Reflections (off what is behind the screen - lcd? Not the reflections off the glass) tend to bend near the bubbles, whereas everywhere else behind the glass is pretty straight.
Essentially it just looks like water droplets or air bubbles forming on the inside surface of the glass, but it's never seen water before. I don't think the digitizer is failing.
Same problem, can I fix this myself?
Hi guys, I have the exact same problem on my HTC Desire. Touch is working fine, the pixels underneath are ok... yet this thing is expanding. What used to be 3 little bubbles near the very corner moved and turned into this amoeba looking thing after a few months.
Here are a few other shots.
Hope someone can let me know the possible verdict? Is it gone? Can it only be repaired by a professional or can I expect to be able to "clean up" the inside of the screen if I dismantle my phone as it is done here?:

Maybe the liquids from the lcd are boiling from the heat? Sounds dumb but is a possibility

Yikes. Mine is still having the same issues. I'm thinking about just tearing it down soon and figuring it out myself. A little nervous working on something with such small components. Any tips for a first teardown? I need to get a T6 torx and I've already looked at a couple disassembly guides, was a while ago though.
As far as I can tell, I will have to replace either the digitizer/glass or the LCD. If it's the latter I'll probably just upgrade the phone cause they seem pretty pricey.
Ok, I did what I said and investigated myself. Unfortunately, I broke my phone doing it.
The problem is the front glass/digitizer. I couldn't get the LCD off, but I pried it back enough to see bubbles through the glass looking from the inside.
I broke my LCD prying on it, now I have an ugly black spot. Guess I'll be buying an LCD and a digitizer now. Anybody have some spare ones, or know the cheapest place to get them?

There are some digitizers on ebay for about $20 USD. i dont know about LCDs cause i never needed to replace mine but i would assume that they would be a little more expensive. Also, make sure you get the digitizer WITH the bezel because it will make your life a ton easier.
I'd better not touch it then
Sorry to hear about your LCD, D-Lew
Guess I wont be touching mine on my own. I'll definitely break it trying to do the same thing as you. I wonder if it's gonna break my phone if I just leave it as is. I mean, apart from the fact that it is there, it is not affecting the performance at all.
The bubble might get bigger. That's all you have to worry about.

Has anyone else noticed the infamous purple noise problem on their Verizon Ones in low light? There's a giant thread about it here in the international variant's section. It gets especially bad when you take a picture in total darkness or cover the lens entirely. If your phone has one of the defective sensors, the whole screen will turn bright purple.
Also curious to see if there's a certain batch of camera sensors behind this. If you have this problem, could you browse to /sys/android_camera/sensor and post the text inside? Mine says "st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-05-03".
Before anyone suggests that this is a software problem, there are a quite a few units that don't exhibit this issue and show perfectly black images in the dark, so I'm more inclined to believe this is a hardware defect.

I have the same problem. I am determining if I should bother replacing it. I have to decide by tomorrow. I am currently unlocked and don't know if it bothers me enough to lose that right now.

Wow, that sucks.
I'm considering the same thing, though I'm not facing such an issue. I want to know if this camera problem is widespread to see if it's worth exchanging; it would be awful to go through the whole exchange process and wind up with the exact same problem on the replacement. And it would especially suck to lose your bootloader unlock for nothing...

My dad also has the HTC One from Verizon (got it a week later). His camera exhibited no such issues. I am going to try messing with his again tomorrow.
Its definitely a widespread issue though as you can see on that XDA post. I've also been following that since I got the phone. There is someone who thinks it might be a software issue and can be fixed by flashing libs. He is working on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45158495
I am just afraid of returning it and getting another headache such as dead pixel(s), chassis gaps/scratches, or anything else like that. I am trying to determine if I could live with it. I don't take many low light shots, but it will suck when I do.
When did you get your phone? It sucks that I have to decide by tomorrow!
EDIT: My camera pretty much does the same thing as shown in this pic (For others who may not be aware what we are talking about)

I got the phone about a week after release. Not sure that means much though, they seem to be randomly using old leftover parts to build the phones (according to the serial number, mine was built in July).
Can you post a picture of the purple stuff? I've seen other threads on this - in one case it did look like classic low-light issues that plagued certain Dincs, but another guy's pictures seriously did not look like digital noise to me - looked like an oily smear, maybe a manufacturing defect.
st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-06-20
Mine doesn't have the issue and it was purchased in the release day.
I had this same problem. I went in to verizon and showed the guy and we went through 3 replacements before he swore it was a software issue. Then I showed him that covering up the camera lens on their display model showed a plain black screen, while the replacements were showing that purple/pink tint. Here's an album with a couple of pictures of what it looks like.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m93o47ugxapos4v/hB6YN6kw-n/HTC One
My camera does the same.
I took it to the VZW store today but didn't have my ID nor did I bring the box with me.
Planning on going back tomorrow.
They told me they'd replace the phone for me so we'll see what the new one does.
Will report back!
BTW, nice car Frankie1588 if that's yours
Mazda RX-8?
For reference - here's a pair of low light shots, one with night mode on and one without. Definitely worth replacing because this phone sees better in the dark than I do, and that's pretty cool - this scene is nowhere near as bright as the pictures make it look, and night mode gets rid of speckling artifacts entirely.
So just going into the Verizon store, you guys were successful in getting replacements? How hard was it to sell that the phone had an issue?
guess I'll test the camera as soon as fedex drops off the phone tomorrow. I'll just call if its bad and make them overnight me a new one.
so if you take a shot in low light without the flash on, and it comes out fine, your camera is ok?
sorry just trying to see if mine if effed.
I help the lens cover and got purple, but when i shot in dark (under my bed) with and without flash, they came out normal?

I just went into the store today and they took my word for it when I described the problem.
Said they have been having a lot of people come in for the same reason.
Since I used another line's upgrade they said I couldn't swap out in the store.
But because of the device still being under warranty, they're shipping me a new one
And I just have to ship my current one back. I seriously hope this new one doesn't have
the same problem.

I got mine with the Edge program (don't judge me), and they were very easy to deal with in store. I just told them that it's an awesome phone, and the camera wasn't working. I showed them that it wasn't working by just covering the lens with my wallet. It showed that pink/purple tint on the screen. We went through three phones before we found one that didn't have that when covering the lens. I would definitely take yours back because the lens, when not taking in any light, should be completely black.

I got mine via edge to, 5 months after getting the note 2 on my upgrade. I'll either pay it off or trade it in at half paid off.
I think some of y'all might be mistaken on the camera.
You need to take a picture in pitch black room, not just cover the camera with your finger. Mine was able to draw light in through my finger, but when I went into the bathroom with the lights off, I got a solid black picture.
Just like a flashlight shines red through your finger, so to some extent can natural light.

I completely agree about not covering it with your finger, light still gets in. You can definitely find an object to cover up the lens, though. The display model at the Verizon store was black when covered with my wallet, but my phone was showing that tint when covered.

then I would definitely get a replacement. Mine was solid black. Also don't have any gaps along the top, or scrapes, imperfections that I can find.
Only thing I noticed was the white band at the top was not quite flush. Have to really look to notice. I'm considering myself lucky.

Hm, but where? Obviously not on the front Between the Glas and the Display itself?
But,i will check this again when the phone gets warm....
This happens to LCD panels, it could be a one off due to heat etc, or it could be the sign of a faulty panel.

If it is glue, it cam be solved, by putting the phone under UV light or under the sun for some time, and it will go away. Google it.
If this does not solve your problem, look for a replacement.

Hm. A couple of days I think. But I can't tell you exactly. It just disappeard after a while.
I'm pleased yours disappeared. Mine which is identical in both the place and shape has been on my G3 since I got it back in July.
It still gets darker the longer you have heat build up on the screen and when it's cooled down its faint again.
i dont have the same luck as you guys mine are getting bigger and darker i think i have a bad lcd DAMN i really love this phone.
Same issue here. Same color, same location, same size. Mine is invisible when the phone is cool. But when the phone heats up, the yellow is very visible.
Sorry guys, I forgot to come back here with an update.
Mine eventually disappeared last week after nearly 3 months.
I believe it is the glue.
Someone told me to try leaving the phone under UV lighting. I left mine in direct sunlight for when it was not being used. Seemed to cure it in a few days.
yellow spot all of a sudden!
I've updated my phone to lollipop v20e a couple of days ago. Today I noticed this little yellow spot in my phone. Coincidence or not I began to use NFC TAGS early this morning, can this be related using the NFC TAGS and having this function enabled?
yellow screen marks
I bought my LG G3 on the 20/07/14 and after 5 months of use I have a long yellow thick line across the top left of the screen. What makes this even more concerning is my cousin bought the same handset a week before me and his now also has a thick yellow line on the screen. There is nothing you can do to get rid of it and it is more pronounced against a white background.Looks more like screen burn. Both my cousin and I have contacted LG and we are having to send our handsets to them for repair.
I have never experienced this issue with any other handset i have owned. I was unhappy that i had the issue but even more pi$$ed off that my cousin has the same thing happening which tells me either it was a huge coincidence or that these things are not fit for purpose and more and more will be going wrong in the near future.
My handset has been well cared for and never dropped. I am a moderate user so this was even more of a surprise. While the LG is getting repaired I am using my Sony z2 work phone as my personal for now and I don't think I will be swapping back when I get my LG back.
Good luck to anyone who has this issue. My concern is the same thing will happen again and then it will be my problem as it will be outside of warranty.
Juan
i have it too in the up-right corner of the screen and it doesn't disappear... it just get darker with hot screen and softens when it cools down
Left-top corner
I also experiencing this issue for 2 months now. its a strip. and its getting longer day by day. once i tried screen burn app and 8 hours continuously screen on resulted in heated display. then, when i press that line temporary it disappears. so obviously its the glue. i'll try the direct sunlight thing. hope it'll resolve this case. it's really annoying
Thanks for the tips :fingers-crossed:

After 6-7 months of usage, same thing, in same place (upper right corner, don't dissapear - only getting bigger and darker on hot screen).
Took my phone to local warranty service, and after 1 week got call from this service - they told me, that service is REJECTED, because phone had physical damage! (WTF?!?!?!?! i haven't dropped it, and there is no crack's/spots of damage on phone!).
After telling them all this, and proposed that it may be glue, or faulty LCD/Overheat - they told me that LCD have crack from back side (?!?!?!LOL!?!?!?!).
Now i'm stuck deep in *ss, and don't know even what to do....
Anyone of you got solution to this problem?
Maybe contacting LG representives directly will help to solve this case?
10x.

Hi all.
I've received my brand new LG G3 32GB international D855. Awesome phone, really.
Anyway I've encountered some hardware related problems:
1st I've noticed that top and bottom of the screen are brighter, but I think it's due to the LCD technology itself (used amoleds in the last 3 years so a different technology with different and, imho, worse problems).
2nd, and the topic of this question, my camera is showing few very light scratches on the back lens. From my tests, fortunately, I realized that they're not visible in any kind of photo.
I used a cover and a screen protector since I unboxed.
My question is: is anyone experiencing similar issue? Is the lens so easy to damage?
I'm pretty worried because my Note 3 never showed a scratch in 7 months used without any kind of protection...
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have also used a bumper case since the 1st day. I checked my camera lens just now and did not notice any scratches. I think it might be a manufacturing fault.
Not sure my G2 had a ton of scratches too but it never came out in photos... so you should be A-OK... maybe just different glass types.
Note 3 has other quality issues *shakes* lol. S Pen die much? lol.
Meanwhile I realised that the issue with the screen is an actual problem called screen bleeding, related to LCD's back illumination.

I've had mine since 2 days prior to main release (know a guy, mwohaha)
I managed to drop it from my hand, when falling asleep in my chair after working with some stuff for 12h straight - it fell on the floor, and slid a good 20-30 cm across dust, and some "gravel particles" from my shoes - camera facing down. NO scratches.
I'm actually quite impressed

sounds like a manufacturing fault. just swap it...i used the bumper too no scratches so far

Yeah but I don't know how LG operates... I can't stay without phone for weeks...

If I'm not wrong I have 2 years to have free reparations/replacements right? Scratches aren't affecting my photos and are only barely visible with naked eye and only in determinated light conditions. If the problem becomes worse or photos will deteriorate I'll update this thread with my experience with LG's warranty system.
For now this phone rocks.

I've noticed some "light leaks" on the top and the bottom of the screen. It's nothing so disturbing, but it's not acceptable in a high end phone like the G3. :/
Anyone else noticed this? Is more visible when you're seen a darker color on the entire screen.

I've also, but it's very hard to notice and when watching films or playing games is almost invisible.
Anyway guys I've an update for you: I'm not crazy scratches are very visible under direct light and I'll definely contact the seller...
Little update
Sent the phone back to the shop (yes, directly to the seller because it was less than 10 days I have bought it :victory, it should get there on Monday.
Let's see if the screen leaky borders, creacky cover and most important buttery lens are enough for a replacement :fingers-crossed:
I'll update you when the shop will contact me.
Another and last update
The shop received the faulty phone today and replaced with a new one
I should get it tomorrow :victory:

I'm testing it now, they also replaced the wall charger that produced a kind of electric noise (and I forgot to tell them it did...)
Another update after the screen tests.
EDIT:
Anyway, a note: the "old" G3 had a "tight" USB which was a pain to plug... the new one works as it should
the "old" G3 had orrible blacks... the new one has very darker blacks
The screen still have the barely visible blue bar on top (seem to be a G3 feature) and has little brighter bottom borders... so I think it's the LCD itself and not a defect. I tested the screen with a simple app called something like Screen Test and every color is uniform (no illumination problems, darker bars/leaks, nothing.
THIS PHONE DOESN'T HAVE AM/PM BUG!
EDIT2:
LOL, AM/PM bug still present

By any chance can you tell me if you have a model with revised hardware? Because i thought all G3's had a hard to plug in usb (including mine).
About the borders i seem to have them too. I think its normal because i can notice them on all lcd displays like the iphone.
On the lowest screen brigtness, during day light my navigation bar is darker than the black bezel on the phone so i assume that yours is the same correct?
And my charger also starts hissing when charging the phone. Weird thing is it also makes the phone hiss when i have earphones on. I dont know if i should be worried.

Accessed phone infos from dialer and it says rev 1.0 like the "old" one.
Yeah I've set brightness to auto and the navbar is barely visible, not like an amoled but the "old" phone had blueish black which was horrible while watching movies even in a dark room with brightness set to minimum
And the new wall charger has the same problem so I think it's normal and it shouldn't explode
I'm not sure about the headphones+charger issue, sorry.
I can hear interference with earphones but I'm not sure of what you mean...

Yeah i thought so.
The blacks are normal to be a little bluish. All lcd are like that and even mine to a small degree.
Thank you for your reply lol. Good luck with your phone buddy
Scratched? How about fully cracked!
First - the phone was not dropped or have any impacts other than what you might get from walking with a phone in your pocket. Other than normal daily use, safe handling and really careful use the phone had nothing happen to it. I cannot pick even a medium bump that happened, but now I have a cracked lens with a hole exposing the camera beneath. LG is warning me that 'mishandling' is not covered ... I certainly did not mishandle the phone in any way.
