Hi all.
I've received my brand new LG G3 32GB international D855. Awesome phone, really.
Anyway I've encountered some hardware related problems:
1st I've noticed that top and bottom of the screen are brighter, but I think it's due to the LCD technology itself (used amoleds in the last 3 years so a different technology with different and, imho, worse problems).
2nd, and the topic of this question, my camera is showing few very light scratches on the back lens. From my tests, fortunately, I realized that they're not visible in any kind of photo.
I used a cover and a screen protector since I unboxed.
My question is: is anyone experiencing similar issue? Is the lens so easy to damage?
I'm pretty worried because my Note 3 never showed a scratch in 7 months used without any kind of protection...
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have also used a bumper case since the 1st day. I checked my camera lens just now and did not notice any scratches. I think it might be a manufacturing fault.
Not sure my G2 had a ton of scratches too but it never came out in photos... so you should be A-OK... maybe just different glass types.
Note 3 has other quality issues *shakes* lol. S Pen die much? lol.
Meanwhile I realised that the issue with the screen is an actual problem called screen bleeding, related to LCD's back illumination.

I've had mine since 2 days prior to main release (know a guy, mwohaha)
I managed to drop it from my hand, when falling asleep in my chair after working with some stuff for 12h straight - it fell on the floor, and slid a good 20-30 cm across dust, and some "gravel particles" from my shoes - camera facing down. NO scratches.
I'm actually quite impressed

So they sent me a butter unity?
Wasn't sapphire indestructible?
Anyway I removed cover and the screen protector, actually they only covered the beautiful design... Just try a few day without nothing and see if the situation deteriorates.

I guess you got a faulty unit; I'd send it in to LG, or at least go on the live chat. That should do the trick, I hope!
sounds like a manufacturing fault. just swap it...i used the bumper too no scratches so far

If I'm not wrong I have 2 years to have free reparations/replacements right? Scratches aren't affecting my photos and are only barely visible with naked eye and only in determinated light conditions. If the problem becomes worse or photos will deteriorate I'll update this thread with my experience with LG's warranty system.
For now this phone rocks.

I've noticed some "light leaks" on the top and the bottom of the screen. It's nothing so disturbing, but it's not acceptable in a high end phone like the G3. :/
Anyone else noticed this? Is more visible when you're seen a darker color on the entire screen.

I've also, but it's very hard to notice and when watching films or playing games is almost invisible.
Anyway guys I've an update for you: I'm not crazy scratches are very visible under direct light and I'll definely contact the seller...
Little update
Sent the phone back to the shop (yes, directly to the seller because it was less than 10 days I have bought it :victory, it should get there on Monday.
Let's see if the screen leaky borders, creacky cover and most important buttery lens are enough for a replacement :fingers-crossed:
I'll update you when the shop will contact me.
Another and last update
The shop received the faulty phone today and replaced with a new one
I should get it tomorrow :victory:

I'm testing it now, they also replaced the wall charger that produced a kind of electric noise (and I forgot to tell them it did...)
Another update after the screen tests.
EDIT:
Anyway, a note: the "old" G3 had a "tight" USB which was a pain to plug... the new one works as it should
the "old" G3 had orrible blacks... the new one has very darker blacks
The screen still have the barely visible blue bar on top (seem to be a G3 feature) and has little brighter bottom borders... so I think it's the LCD itself and not a defect. I tested the screen with a simple app called something like Screen Test and every color is uniform (no illumination problems, darker bars/leaks, nothing.
THIS PHONE DOESN'T HAVE AM/PM BUG!
EDIT2:
LOL, AM/PM bug still present

By any chance can you tell me if you have a model with revised hardware? Because i thought all G3's had a hard to plug in usb (including mine).
About the borders i seem to have them too. I think its normal because i can notice them on all lcd displays like the iphone.
On the lowest screen brigtness, during day light my navigation bar is darker than the black bezel on the phone so i assume that yours is the same correct?
And my charger also starts hissing when charging the phone. Weird thing is it also makes the phone hiss when i have earphones on. I dont know if i should be worried.

Accessed phone infos from dialer and it says rev 1.0 like the "old" one.
Yeah I've set brightness to auto and the navbar is barely visible, not like an amoled but the "old" phone had blueish black which was horrible while watching movies even in a dark room with brightness set to minimum
And the new wall charger has the same problem so I think it's normal and it shouldn't explode
I'm not sure about the headphones+charger issue, sorry.
I can hear interference with earphones but I'm not sure of what you mean...

Yeah i thought so.
The blacks are normal to be a little bluish. All lcd are like that and even mine to a small degree.
Thank you for your reply lol. Good luck with your phone buddy
Scratched? How about fully cracked!
First - the phone was not dropped or have any impacts other than what you might get from walking with a phone in your pocket. Other than normal daily use, safe handling and really careful use the phone had nothing happen to it. I cannot pick even a medium bump that happened, but now I have a cracked lens with a hole exposing the camera beneath. LG is warning me that 'mishandling' is not covered ... I certainly did not mishandle the phone in any way.

When I go into the diagnosis app and do LCD test and leave it on the black color I see the same exact thing as your pictures. Do you have a screen protector? I do and iam half tempted to take it off and see if that might be causing the distortion. Can other people try what I did and report back their results?

Check Diagnostics and no distortion with the black, or any other color test screen. Using a Moshi screen protector.
Do you have the purple haze issue? My black L900 does not appear to have that bug.

Even with all my lights off, I cannot see ANYTHING on the screen when it's black in Diagnostics, Scrolling from White to Black, it's blank. It truly appears to be turned off. I'm actually thinking it may be off it's so dark.
PS: Just tried it again with my Brightness turned all the way up. Same. Looks like it's turned off.

Same and none of my other colors replicate what OP gets. I get a slight "rainbowing" effect on all my colors but I am told that could be my screen protector or that I am still not used to the amoled screen...
Well I might have to drop by an att store to compare because mine looks just like the first picture. Thanks guys!

AMOLED screens are very easy to get burn in. If you turn the brightness all the way up, leave the screen on for longer time and display static pictures or text for long period of time, you will get burning quickly. It gets burnt in 10 times faster than a Plasma TV.
OP seems play too much games on it.

I have a preorder phone and use it quite a lot daily and that test did not indicate a problem, neither has the LCD test. Are those of you with these problems running some app constantly? Even some kind of UI replacement?
Or, were they used phones? Maybe they were demo phones that were running the Demo Software in the stores?

Hrm that sounds odd. I assume you didnt transfer a screen protector or anything to it from the old one?
One of my old PET screen protectors had a "Rainbow" affect if you looked at it with the screen off and at an angle. This was on an AMOLED display.

I doubt this. I have a Lumia 900 AND a plasma and my plasma which is a fairly recent super thin model has image retention like an SOB. It's one of those "smart" TVs with all the apps built in. It has google maps, Netflix, youtube, etc. It looks beautiful but you have to be careful If you use an app with static controls for too long you can end up with image retention. On dark scenes in movies if I have been fiddling with the volume recently I can sometimes see a faint ring where the volume indicator pops up. That level or image retention would be ruinous on a smartphone.

Ditto. It was also the first screen I could view in sunlight.
I got my new titanium grey gn2 today from 3 but noticed a couple of issues. ..
The back cover doesn't seem to fit right, one of the tabs is bent/badly made and requires extra force to click on, also when looking at the cover under certain light there seems to be ripples/deformation in the plastic especially on the speaker grill where the centre bar is curved outwards. ..
Am I just being fussy?
Anybody else had poor fitting back covers?
Three have offered to exchange the phone but it's getting somebody to sit in for the posty again etc. ..
I could just buy another cover I suppose.
Other than that phone is superb, free of any branding and bloatware and hopefully unlocked (don't have another microsim to try)
Battery life so far is fantastic although I am comparing it to my old gs2
Mark
Its normal, the curve on speaker grill. Now enjoy your phone! :good:

It must be by design. Actually I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read this lol.

Yes the curved bar is normal. It is like that on the note1 as well. It's to prevent muffling of the speaker when you have the phone lying flat.

Hi I got my oppo Find7a while on a business trip to China 2 weeks ago (348 euro)
I made the mistake of exchanging a perfect midnight black with a white one because the back was so slippery that in the first 10 minutes of use I dropped my phone on the couch twice!
On the white one the volume and power button are poorly fitted and rattle a lot.
Also the screen has on the lower right corner a yellow/orange tint apparent from the first time I turned on the device!
Apart from those minor issues my major complaint is the contrast of the screen which is lacking compared to my HTC one M7 (sharp panel) I currently use. In comparison it makes the screen look a bit dull like my nexus 7 2013 which also has a jdi made panel.
Camera and sound are awesome and I don't care about battery life since we have the insanely fast charging.
This is the only thing that is holding me back from claiming Find 7a the perfect phone.
I guess at this price point you can not complain.

I have to say im impressed with the phone. The yellow patch on the screen goes away, leave the phone full brightness and playing a video, heat the screen up, its just the glue, had many a phone with the issue.
The button's do rattle on the white one, cant speak for the black, but not a massive issue for me. The screen looks slightly off to me as well, until i removed the factory screen protector, like night and day, have a nice glass protector on it now.
Fast charging is insanley cool. I get great battery life out of mines, but its nice to quick charge.
I have to say the phone phisically is perfect for me, its the software and lack of available customization that is the issue, but cyanogen should fix that

I got so annoyed I removed the screen protector I am amazed at how good the screen looks now.
Screen protector was a hard sheet of thick plastic that makes the display look bad.
If they were going to fit such a bad quality screen protector they shouldn't have bothered at all.
I only wish for the yellow tint on the lower part of the screen to go away and I have the perfect phone!

I don´t see my yellow tint that often, but it really feels like its going away. probably I have to try the full brightness video thing for a day.
I'm a bit gutted really. After reading user reports about the build quality of the find 5, I was hoping that the find 7 would be a massively premium phone - this seems not to be the case as people keep describing it as amazing considering it's not a premium device.
May as well go get a one plus

You got it all wrong the Find7a is a premium device !!!
Even phones costing triple and even more have small annoyances.
Oppo Find 7a is a very honest device no gimmics!
My white handset has neither the loose keys nor the yellow issue. The hardware does not look cheap and in fact has a premium vibe but isn't up to the standards of an M8. But then this is the down tempo device, the 7 would be a better price competitor and it is reported to have a more upscale feel with its carbon fiber (look) backplate. Meanwhile the reviews I've seen tend to place the OPO and Oppo as about on par in terms of perceived quality.
I would be a lot more worried about the horrid standby and bad battery life in general. If you're used to modern cell phones its going to catch you by surprise. I would be looking to see if the OPO has this mess with the radios and other low level software issues cleaned up and lean that direction if they did. I wouldn't buy either if it didn't until such time as they fix one or the other.
There is a lot to love about this phone, the hardware is excellent and even Color OS is a decent GUI with fun stuff and some legitimately useful ideas although immature. I liken it to a car that you really like but you're never sure if its going to start or if you'll get there. This phone is like that. It's software is not even close to final and you can expect it to shut down, lock up, have unexplained battery losses and such on an infrequent but regular basis.
I'll corroborate to say that my yellow tint went away. The first day I had it I was a little disappointed by it but I figured I would stop noticing it. One reason I bought a phone with such a big screen is to watch my anime on the go, which includes watching it at full brightness when on the bus/glare. I didn't even think that the heating up might address it and checking it again after reading this thread it appears the tint is gone.
I've also had some weird flip flopping with standby time. For the first week, it would only drain 3% overnight, but for the last 2 days, it's been draining 10-12% overnight, and then as of tonight, it barely drained again. I'm not really sure what's going on but there are definitely some weird little software issues that need to be cleaned up. If nothing else, Entropy and the others seem geared up to get Omnirom going

The pre-installed screen protector is a common thing among some smartphone manufacturers. Sony also does it with their Xperia line, my friends Xperia S also came with a pre-installed screen-protector, and i don't know why you're saying it looks bad with the screen protector, it doesn't the only thing the screen protector may have has a step back is that fingerprints and grease from your hands get on the screen much quicker. Anyway, it is a quality screen protector, cheap ones scratch very easily, this doesn't. If you want to buy another one, buy one of those made of glass, those are supposed to be great.
My Find 7a came with a yellow tint also, i've already started playing District 9 via Plex on full brightness .

I tried this today, ran a YouTube video for about 2hrs at full screen brightness but doesn't seem to have made any difference. I will try again this eve and run it for longer, but would be interested to hear from others to see if it works for them?
So the general consensus is that the screen looks much better with the factory protector removed?
I got my device yesterday and have to say I love it. I was very impressed with it the second I took it out of the box and felt it in my hand. I knew it would be a nice device as I owned the Find 5 as well but it was much nicer than I had imagined. The build quality is top notch. My buttons do not rattle but they do have some play in them but then again the Nexus 5 buttons had some play, a lot of HTC m8 buttons have some play. As long as the button isn't falling off who cares if it has some play?

Hi, agree in some points,
so in direct comparison to the Find5 screen the Find7a Screen is not that good, (for me) very too blueish, not good black color, weird pixel densitiy (maybe this is up on my still existing screen protector where i think i cannot read super small text which is no issue on the find5) and the yellow tinty glue on the bottom side.
I just rund benchmarks for 2 hours, yellow tinty get little faded but still visible also i used a hair dryer some minutes (not on full heat and really careful and with battery out of the device) which makes the very hard things disappear, but still not yet in full, also i´m absolutely not wanted to do such things as customer when i receive a new device ;o)
I will give it a try with the "long hour video playback" this evening, else i send it back tomorrow in hope to receive a device which has a little warmer display and with biggest focus without the tinty stuff (which is a no go).
From all other sides for me the find7a is nearly perfect and i find it better than find5, find7a is awesome (size / sound / performance / colorOS in the meantime), the build quality is also okay, but find5 was little more ahm - unique / premium feel in hand, but also heavy for its size.

Sir, if I'm not asking too much, please compare camera quality of this phone with other(if you have of course). As I've seen on reviews, camera of this phone is great. I'm looking to renew my phone and my decision is LG G3 or Oppo find 7(a), or 1+1 if will be available to buy without invitation. Thanks
I've had my G3 for close to 2 months now after preordering it right before launch. I already have a screen burn issue going on in the upper middle of the screen, which is quite odd because I had two G2s that had similar screen burn issues in nearly the exact same spot. Anyone else come across this so far? Am I just getting super unlucky with LG lately? Thanks in advance!
Take a pic for us?

More info would be nice. What is your screen brightness set at? if you have had this issue twice already with another LG model I would look into user error. I dont mean to offend but it has been known for years that high screen brightness can cause this issue.
No worries, I'd think the same thing! I run my screen brightness around 40% and very rarely go above that. I first noticed the burn about 2 weks ago, when I was stock rooted, and it has stuck through 2 versions of skydragon as well. I attached a pic, the burn is just to the right of the RJ logo. Unrelated, how do you just reply on the XDA app, the 3 dots menu isnt there?
I have same phone for time length. Running at 52 in dark and full brightness outside and don't have that. Replace phone or maybe it overheating
AWESOME G3
I'm thinking the same. I think you've been overheating. That's where this phone gets the hottest. I always put my finger on the buttons and i can feel the heat there
I do not notice that. Usually I use brightness 55%, or auto when it's in outdoors.
May you describe your screen tint? Mine is rather unique because the tint is slightly purple (neither warm nor cool, but my screen is brighter than most models I compared).

I have been known to stick it in the freezer and let the temp drop lol
AWESOME G3
This isn't what I would call a "Screen Burn". Looks to be a simple manufacturer defect. Burn in would be something like the top notification shade showing a burned in after effect of say, like, the clock or maybe an icon that is constant like the signal bars or blue tooth or something...
That's what it does, it's kinda hard to see since I use a the stock widget and it's a blue, but anything with a white background you can clearly see a darkish burn in the screen. I'm thinking the overheating sounds plausible, and why it has happened on both devices in the same area. Now to figure out why it's overheating...

The real screen burn is like an image "carved" on the screen after a period of time.
AMOLED is notorious of burn (look at G Flex screen).

Yeah, I wouldn't say over heating would cause burn in. But I suppose it's possible burn in could be something you are experiencing. You are sure it's not an image retention problem. I've seen some LG 4K tvs with image retention issues.
Could you guys please look at my thread? I think I have the same problem.

I dont know if my eyes are just completely bugging out or if what im seeing is true. I got my replacement note 7 yesterday and everything went well but then i saw a red/pink tint towards the bottom of the screen i started to freak out but decided that i would let it fly til Monday or so hoping that its just glue or something drying up. Its more noticeable when the screen is on a full white screen or if the bottom/edge part of the screen is white but other than that you can't see it at all.

Sounds like a display issue. My Note 4 had half the screen streaked/covered with a similar color. It was really similar to what the blue-light filter looks like when turned about half way up actually. But it was only on about half the display, and in streaks so was more of a bother because it wasn't the entire screen. I honestly only really noticed it when I was reading my kindle app on my phone with the lights turned off, otherwise it really wasn't very noticeable in normal lighting conditions. Upon reading about this on google this can happen to these kinds of displays that Samsung uses. Might be something to send the phone back for a replacement. I'd really have to see a pic to know enough to know for sure though.
Sounds like a defect. Bound to be a few. Try massaging that area of the screen fairly hard and see if there is any change.

I had that issue on my silver Note 7 and opt to exchange it (after many rounds of persuasion and complaints with at least 3 Samsung technicians). Some see it, some don't. This happened right before the recall.
Thought it was only a random unit of mine, but since you also raised this issue, could be more widespread. FYI, my unit was international version. Also same pinkish hue at the bottom. My replacement unit (before the recall) did not have this issue.
My note 7 recall replacement is not here yet (Samsung announced our replacement only available officially on 29 Sept in my country). I too hope my recalled-replacement will not have the pink hue at the bottom of the screen.
