this is just personal opnion, but this version blows away the 3/31 build. i juss had issues with data not wrkn but i fixed it with the tips in the threads. I hear people talk of stability. well, to me, this new sense version moves way faster and smoother. really. juss make sure to cut off the 3d harware box..it isnt wrkn and will slow things up. i have more features working in this install than the 3/31 build.
my last install didnt load all the folders right and i never saw a keyboard selector or update. checked thru everywhere in device, no luck..but it still worked, i juss couldnt auto update and i was getting hung up trying to change the files. Now, with this new install...everything is perfect..lol i know have "andboot" folder....my last install named it "Android" and no matter how many different ways to change folder name or replace, it didint work. Now all i gotta do is auto update..which i did with this install also..wrks perfect. now my my dual boot wont recognize it...i tried to different versions the 1.05 and 1.06 Gene Y dual boot cabs, no luck..not worried though, i figure it soon enough.
almost half the day been on Sense...i always keep a charger close by. lol for all the skeptical people, wifi does work..i tested it..its pickn up signals...my 03/31 install didnt wrk..as far as wifi goes...im making and recieving phone calls...juss set your calls and txts and emails to vibrate...it works..all my data wrkn perfect...i got opera mini 5 up here along with a ton of stuff i downloaded..lol
A smart move to do is to use your Astro Explorer and press menu to back up data/apps..u can bck up all ur dwnloaded stuff from the market or wherever..and be able to reinstall them if u ever reinstall a new xdandroid version or somethng. ive did install/uninstall numerous times already..so knowing i still have my programs backed up is good. get opera if u havent....its way faster thn the android one. i got programs im dying to use once everything wrks on this build like my morse coder or the virtual walkie talkie apps..i cant say enuff how truly amazed with this forum, its members, and the Feats being accomplished here. and they do this for free...Unbelievable...THANK YOU DEVELOPERS N ALL WHO MADE THIS BUILD POSSIBLE. i cant wait to show this off to my pops and friends back home...ima blow their mind...

to me this is better than last version and moves faster, at least on my tilt2 it does...oh and if u want true speed readings, get the Speedtest.net app frm da market..its free... if u think im pulling your chain on this build, juss look at da sig..im on android sense now on xda app..wit no problems..im goin crazy ova here on how cool this is...i just joined this site not too long ago n already got my phone on a whole new level of being upgraded..i got all da fixes. 3D DRIVERS...DA LIST Goes on and on..too cool

Or if you're using the startup utility then just uncheck the box.
i think I've confirmed that rooted apps and WiFi tethering works on this build. i downloaded barnacle wifi tethering app from the marketplace that said ur device needed to be rooted in order to work. well it seems to wrk. i know wifi wrks for sure and data, so therotically should. i gave my old tilt to my mom so cant test right this second but the program runs fine and commands say its broadcasting successfull. goodnight..lol

this is a great version and i think its basically usable for people who arent dying for the GPS, bluetooth, and camera. the one thing that is killing it for me though is the lack of the speaker and headphone jack working. that is the only features preventing me from using it all the time.
i know these guys are making great progress but does anyone have any idea when theyre gonna at least solve that issue? because im sure that would bump up its mass appeal

They work on this daily. It could be tomorrow, it could be never. There is no time line, or guarantee.

its pretty stable, to me. it isn't my default OS yet but keeping it on longer and longer everyday. I be pushing da limits on this build. as far as apps and modding Android within itself. essential functions wrk like being able to make/receive calls, txts,data,WiFi...I can even do WiFi tether wit app I found on marketplace. I had marketplace wrkn but I messed around and now its saying serve error but my gsm and data wrk fine...marketplace acts funny at times..lol ill get it wrkn again soon, already deleted data img. I get tired of reading all my settings and apn and downloads..I hve alot..there's some good tool apps on mrktplce

I personally think its SO annoyingly slow. I'm constantly waiting for screens and lists to populate, and it makes me feel like I am using WinMo again. Contacts take forever to load, and the sms app, takes FOREVER to populate. Then when you're trying to do something sense will force close itself, and then you find yourself staring at a black screen with "htc" on it, and you have to wait for it to completely start Sense again. The AOSP 2.1 is WAY smooth, and SO fast, and a more "official" release. 110Mb free ram vs 45Mb sounds WAY better to me.

ok well that is a damning summary coming straight from the horses mouth! Thanks for all the advice everyone, sounds like AOSP 2.1 is the way to go for stability. Can't wait to try this out. I won't have to switch between my G1 and Avantage for much longer.
i downloaded that 2.1 no sense last night after i posted. I installed it juss like any other build but couldnt get it to finish the haret loading. 3/31 2.01and the 4/23 2.1 w/Sense builds i had no problem installing and running. I even checked the folders and it was all correct, in the andboot folder with all the necessary files in it. Even updated the 2.1 AOSP b4 running it the first time. the first time right after haret started up, it got hung up in the beginning..so i rebooted to try again. this time the haret ran the loader all the way till the end and got hung up right b4 the startup screen. said something about trying to init. pid or something. it kept on searching and repeating the command but no luck. i shut it down after i seen it aint gonna load up..lol i really do wanna try this build also but get tired of uninstalling and installing and setting up all my settings again. i have a ton of downloaded apps for the android already. after no success, i just installed the sense one again. Wrks wit no problems..lol
Theres ways to make it run faster within the os itself. I found alot of good memory manager apps and startup auditors. The reason i believe it runs laggy at times is because of all the programs always starting up without u even doing anything. U gotta kill apps all the time. I cant remember the name, but i have this memory app tool that lets u set a minimum and maximum MB for ur programs. For example i set it to 50mb, the program starts killing off apps in order of priority in order to maintain at least 50mb threshhold. works pretty well to me. i might try that 2.1 no sense build again another day but im stickin with the Sense build for now. It has potential..lol

Ill build a new cab within the next day or 2. You're not the only one that had problems with the AOSP .cab.

yeah im glad theyre working on it either way, but ill only start using it as my full time OS when they get that feature in at least. but it sure is fun to mess around with in the meantime
yeah, i believe its gonna come soon. I be away from my phone alot and need to hear it when a call comes in or i get txts, or "BACKGROUND Notifications"..lol that made me laugh...thinkin of somethin someone else told me in another thread.. I believe Reefer posted up the new cab for the 2.1 non-sense version. I havent gottn to try it out yet. Im still havin fun with the Sense version. Plus finding out how to cut the Sense UI off is a big plus for me. Now everytime my device boots into Android, It asks me what UI i want to use. Either Home, Sense, or Launcher. if i use home or launcher , it loads right up. Not like when using Sense and its loading forever. I like it cuz i have the option to choose.
To anyone that knows of a ROM that is 100% functional INCLUDING S PEN!
The ROM I have now doesn't have a working radio so I can't even use my data plan to download anything (sometimes doesn't even wake back up when it goes to sleep). The home internet is constantly blinking in and out, making downloading large files tedious; so if you are positive you know a ROM that has everything functioning (as if it just shipped from the factory!) and de-bloated then please please, do tell!
I'd like this to be a one-shot download kind of thing rather than having to download a mess of things, once I get something that works again then I don't care how many ROMs you suggest.
PS: Are the Note II ROMs naturally huge??? I have seen some as high as 1GB

Have you tried reading through the development section for comments as to what works and what doesn't for each ROM? There are loads that work. And yes, many are quite large.
Android Revolution by Mike1986 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925402) works flawlessly and is as you described. Near stock but completely debloated and optimized for better battery life and faster. Version 10.0 was just released yesterday with some updates.
If i ever need to use a Samsung ROM, i always use Android Revolution as i know it simply works.
Samsung ROMs are normally around 800 MB to 1 GB, completely normal.

The lot I have found actually didn't have a log at all, so I assumed everything worked, like SpaceX2 I searched the entire thread for reported issues and didn't find anything so I went ahead to get it then run into this mess I'll try to look harder next time (if my internet plays nice)

I'll give it a go then! and I just wanted to be sure they were supposed to be that large, the SII I had had ROMs around 300-500 avg so when I saw SpaceX2's 900-something and another at 1.4GB my eyes nearly popped out of my skull and jaw slapped a hole in the floor LOL
but just to be clear, the S-Pen functions are normal then? Reason I got this phone was to do my illustrations on the go (Sketchbook Pro and Photoshop stuff) and if I can't us it then it was a waste lol

Why not stick to stock? Custom roms are nice if you are looking for certain features, but they often come at the expense of being less compatible with certain apps and for the note specifically, you lose apps like s-note.

A number of reasons, really.
~While stock is wicked fast and no doubt stable, too many apps run in the background. I did a memorydump once and at any given time (after its sat idle for about 2min) there are usually 40-50 or more apps running in the background.
~Want to be able to continue using Google Wallet (started using it on my Nexus 7 and instantly fell in love). This Isis crap that the carriers are forcing us to use seems like the works of a halfwitt jacked up on drugs and their rollout methods are awful.
~Apparently the stock ROM with all the bloat/branding sucks up the onboard memory like it's going out of style. I don't even use most (if any) the carrier junk but I can't delete them. Thats where de-bloated and slimmed-down-to-essentials ROMs come in for me
~Ability to fully customize how I want MY phone to look and react rather than be just another carbon copy with the rest of the crowd. You wouldn't believe how many people, that have gotten a good look at my old SII w/ SBean AOKP, oooh & ahh over some visual features I could do that they couldn't, especially with battery readouts rather than guessing what percentage you're at with that vague battery bar.
That's just scratching the surface but come-ooooon! This is XDA, what are the majority of us here for anyway?
The Revolutions ROM mentioned above sounds promising and the fellow said all the stock things worked, including the phone's signature ability, the Wacom digitizer and S Pen. Without that working, thats like selling me a factory fresh Porsche but minus all the bits that make it go

Is it normal that the installation keeps freezing around the bit about efs backups?

First off if I was a dev and saw this thread id be like "fu then enjoy your stock rom bish"
Its one thing if a rom is bricking your phone cuz the dev did no tests bit seriosly , your title really is unfair.
You shoukd read a luttle more about custom roms as this is the nature of "custom roms".
Why dont you make your own rom??

Hi.....all....i just got this amazing phone last 2 weeks, and this is really good phone. And i just root it too.
I wanna change the custom ROM with Omega ROM, and change the Kernel too.
My question in here is : I can flash the custom ROM ?? Or i must unroot first ? And sorry, i really newbie about that, flashing or wht.

Your signature reads "Galaxy Note II (T889)" and AFAIK Revolution HD and this whole section really is about the GT-N7100. Could you please clarify this point?

I hear you. I was into custom ROM's for many devices, but I found the problems with incompatibilities to be too much of a hassle to use on "daily driver" devices - especially my phone, which I use for business.
Now, I use Titanium to freeze bloatware and system apps that I don't want running. I use the Xposed framework mod to get unlimited multiwindow apps on my Note2 as well as add other features like per-app settings (dpi, full screen, resolution, etc.). I use a Nova Launcher instead of touchwiz, and several other tweaks on my stock firmware.
I found this to be the best option for ME, because the stability on my phone is perfect, battery life is great and I know that all apps will work properly.
Good luck on your quest to find the best rom - you'll likely have to try a bunch before settling down

They're not, the T-Mobile Note II has a dedicated forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1877
GSM Arena says : The device will have a model number SGH-T889 and will reportedly pack the same specs as the international Galaxy Note II (except for the LTE connectivity, of course). Feel free to check out our preview of the Note II for more details on the device.
The most common problem after crossflashing is losing signal. You have to flash a compatible ROM now, maybe even restore your efs partition.

The version of Titanium that does not require root allows you to "freeze" bloatware? What exactly do you mean by that? In other words, what does "freeze" mean in this context specifically?

Root is required of you want to get the most out of your device. If you want to "freeze" apps on an unrooted device, go to your application manager in your device settings, click on the system app you want to "freeze" and select disable. If you don't see the disable button, then click Uninstall updates first. Use this with caution as freezing or disabling important apps may cause problems.
Xposed requires root, but it doesn't mess up your system like some hardwire mods which replace system files can do.

Now iv been looking for a leaked apk of this all over. if you havent heard about it yet then jump on to your fb account and check it out. its been a part of my news feed for days. more that i read it seems this will be more of a rom than an app. witch confuses me because the way fb had worded it, it had seemed like it was going to be an app also. im no crazy facebooker like my gf but im curious to see how this changes things like the lock screen, home screens and the overlay of fb msger. does anyone have more info on this or just maybe a leaked apk they saw fall off the back of the truck and and point me where i can find it on the side of the road lol.

I was first thinking it was just something for the htc first. But now I'm under the impression that it's going to be a replacement launcher like apex or nova.
I thought it was announced? It's a launcher, but it's more integrated than other launchers as it also replaces the lockscreen and has that overlay. Personally, as a college student who uses facebook for communication and stalking his friends, I'd use it lol.

thats what im thinking now and i normally only use apex or LGs home launcher but this looks like a whole different sight on android home launchers

yeah ill use it until i want that new device feel again and switch to another launcher lol. they did announce it but no in great detail. i think thats tomorrow or this week, it releases to "some" android devices april 12th but the list is mainly HTCs. i saw it was leaked and such i didnt know if anyone here had it or played with it

I'll try it for a few minutes, but not something I would use fulltime.
I just download the leak that was on modaco. Right now not much is working all i have is a black screen and the icon buttons i like that can switch back to your normal launcher.I'm on Facebook alot so might use it once a working APK comes out for our phone.

i read that until the official release on April 12th only employee facebook logins will work with the leaked apk.
I might mess with it to see what theyve been up to at FB, but I cant imagine wanting to use this as a regular launcher. Especially if its anything like their native app.
My understanding is just that it is a launcher that is heavily integrated with FB.
I personally will not be using it, as I cancelled my FB account a year ago. The air just smells cleaner these days...

Hahaha when I "cancelled "my account I felt so much better but I went back for games. As for now I can clearly understand how it works and see it. Its def a really cool concept. I'd prefer one from instagram since I'm more of a picture person.

agreed i think it has the best ui by far clean simple but very useful but the only reason i dont use it is cuz (no joke) i have like 15 friends on there. i come from a land where apple has taken over and android is known as a "poor" mans iphone. even though my lgog will out preform and icrap
So Facebook home was released today and after reading the requirements our phone should run it just fine. But they would rather supply it to the popular phones. Is there a sure way of getting the official release on our phone through the market? I know there's a way to change the play store to think this is a different device. How do I do that? All I can find are enablers that don't work on most phones this one included
Edit: never mind. That still doesn't work. Edited the build.prop and still no luck. Even the Facebook that supposed to have the "home" settings doesn't have it for my device. And the leak files won't allow me to log in. I'm assuming that has something to do with the device as well..

Got it working. Found a thread that posted the official release and I didn't have to do anything special. Just installed the apk like normal

I notice that whenever I download a picture from Chrome, and then go to the Gallery, the picture will not show up. However, if I go into the file manager and move the picture to a different directory, it seems to move. It seems to me as if the Gallery is not updating it's database of pictures after Chrome downloads. Is this a normal issue on the GS4 or is this something particular only with my phone?
Keep in mind im un-rooted and on stock firmware

This happens to me too. I noticed that if you just leave it alone and come back like an hour later the picture will suddenly be there. But it is extremely annoying and I have no clue on how to fix it.

It's because of the way media scanner is set to work on Samsung devices. If you force it to rerun with an app it will show up

It is system wide with Samsung devices. They cache everything until the next time media scanner runs.
Anything else you do though will refresh the media scanner. The only thing that doesn't refresh is the browser

Not been too bad man. How have you been? No I gave up on OEM based devices. To long before updates are issued if they ever get it. I only run Nexus devices now.

Meh, i can tolerate it. And ive been alright. Too busy with work though. I hate working in a factory -.- cant wait for school to start in the fall. Oh and the nexus devices just dont seem to be all that great for the price. I hope Tmo does come out with their update soon so i can finally update my ROM lol. Hoping they release 4.3 right away instead of 4.2 updates. That way we dont have to wait forever like you said.

Yeah mine was mostly dealing with the over lays like TW or Sense. I perfer AOSP roms and the nexus 4 having full AOSP support backed by good hardware was a big draw. Mainly as I always pay retail for my devices 350 was a bargain.

I like all the cool features of the S4, but TouchWiz is history on my phone working on deleting some useless kernel services and other bloat crap that arent just apks in system directory. I love my phone. Just wish the random rebooting would go away -.- I guess thats where having full source and kernel code comes into handy

Hm, never heard of Tizen. However, "fully closed source OS" means its not Android. And i wont be using it lol. That is 99% of the reason i love android. Same reason i loved windows Mobile 6.5.x. I made custom ROMs for it, was able to change colors/etc via Registry edits, was easily able to write my own apps with C# (as i can do with android in Java) so a closed source OS will totally kill them. Granted, Samsung is a great company. They just better NOT get rid of Android all together. I have been diving into some of the securities with Android. And samsung is doing a great job keeping their stuff closed source by simply writing .c code and putting the compiled version into System/bin and have the system run its special code. So they are still staying closed source to a point
In their defense, i don't blame them. If i create something that is out of this world and beyond all others, i surely would want it to be copyrighted and unable to be repliated to other devices (IE Smart View, and the other things they made) I just fear everything will be "controlled" the US Government is already trying to overtake the internet and crap like that. Oh can't forget about the Verizon call info being shared with the Government. Bleh really strayed off there xD

Oh it is still android based as only the kernel needs to be open. here is a part of the info. They recently had a developers con for it

Im not liking it... Feels way too much like the older style phones. And that screenshot makes me wanna destroy all my electronics xD Never knew something so hideous could exist Lets hope its better than what I'm thinking. Wish they'd just stick to Android and java though..

I ahte to say it but its not gonna be. Samsung wants complete control of the device. Just take a look at their unrootable kernels, locked bootloaders, and lack of interest in working with the developers. They used the Devs to make them popular and now couldnt care less. I have a feeling Samsung will go the way of Nokia if they keep this up.

I noticed that the locked bootloaders and unrootable kernels were only carrier specific. I didnt have an unrootable kernel or a locked bootloader with my T-Mobile S4 variant but noticed other carriers had issues. Hmm. But yes if they keep it up i will not be buying any samsung device in the future. Im tryna make the S4 last me a good 3 - 4 years.

Now, I know about launchers and custom roms and such (On my Nexus 7 2013 I have Paranoid Android and I'm using the Apex Launcher), but I want to know about the best and most powerful FREE UI changing apps, modules, whatever there is. (The reason I'm not using Google for this is because I'm really unlucky with Google and I find like nothing I want or need, and I'd rather get help from an actual person).
