Well, it was a nice device, in concept. But, after 5 replacements for various defects, I'm done. I ordered the Samsung S7. Never owned a Samsung before, but I have to assume the support is better than the new Lenovo owned Motorola. I've been a loyal Moto customer since the OG Droid in 2010. Plus, these phones are too big. I'm not a huge guy, so a screen that is hard to hold, and fit in my pocket is a non starter. Hopefully, the battery is decent on the S7, and the phone reception is good. Otherwise, I can live without some of the great Moto software features, as nifty as they are. Software isn't much use when the screen is defective, or people can't hear me talking.
I must admit when I saw the title, I thought you were gonna leave because of the lack of MM update. Sorry to hear you've had so many problems with this phone, I hope the S7 brings you good luck.
You will hate how locked down the s7 is. Should of went 6p. I sold my turbo 2 for a 6p and love it. I had 2 turbo 2's never had an issues but the battery life on my 6p is about the same and I get USB type c unlocked and a fingerprint reader so this is more of what I wanted.

I had the S5 and I really miss it. I thought I would like the Turbo 2 but it hasn't lived up to any of the promises so far, except I haven't tested the toughness of the screen. My replacement Turbo 2 came in today and I'll get it setup tonight. If it fails me, I'll get the S7 Edge because of the larger battery than the regular S7.
I've only had this phone for 2 months and it's developed hardware problems. I never had a hardware problem with the S5, just some stupid lack of updates from Samsung AND Verizon. I was lured by Motorola's false advertising of 3 days of battery life. I can't get 1 day of battery life if I actually use the phone. If I leave it face down and don't touch it, I could probably get 3 days. Face up, the stupid motion sensor (that I haven't figured out how to turn off) wakes up the screen all the damn time. The battery lasts 1 day, less than a day or just over a day and a half in my experience over the last 2 months. A day and a half was with VERY minimal phone usage.
I wish you the best with the S7 and I hope it's far better than this POS.

Start moto app, tap right top corner, actions, first option on the list...
I don't believe Verizon ever said 3 days of battery. What I saw was up to 48 hours with mixed usage.
I average almost 20 hours and 5.5 OST.
Much better than the M8 I had before it.

Sadly we don't have girls (or they're really rare) here to confirm the size really matters
The 6P is a huge phone and ugly as sin. Great for updates, but if you aren't a front speaker aficionado (which I'm not) then it is just ugly and wasted space.

I've had my Verizon turbo 2 since about 2 weeks after release and have had 0 hardware problems and haven't replaced it once. You're either really clumsy or really unlucky. People don't know how to take care of their phone and I'm assuming you're one of those people, considering you've replaced it 5 times. As far as the battery life I'm a heavy user and push 24 hrs before I'm out of battery. Learn how to train it and uninstall stuff that eats up the battery. I see so many people leave like 100 different apps open in the task manager (the built in one of course) and it kills me. They wonder why their phone is so slow or why it's always dead so quick and their too ****ing lazy to click a button and kill tasks. Anyways I'm sure you don't have the ignorance of people like that otherwise you wouldn't be browsing and posting on XDA. The only reason I would see me moving on from this phone is for root and BL unlock. I love my Roms and kernels. When I was still in school I had a gs3 that I had a new ROM on every day I came to school lol. I miss that **** but I just don't wanna go back to Samsung's mediocre feeling phones, just not a trade-off I'm willing to make. But if that's what you want, all power to you man and gl.
Believe it or not, people have been unlucky and have had hardware issues (green line issues and power button issues to name a few), consider yourself lucky.

I can attest to this, my first turbo 2 had a green line the first time I turned the phone on 2 days after release, fortunately I hadn't walked out the door yet so they swapped it out immediately. as for the power button issue, surprisingly making a seal with your mouth and blowing hard seems to dislodge whatever dust might be getting stuck and fixes the issue (found this solution online, it has worked like a charm)
This is truly unbelievable, I paid off my DT2 600.00 that I got in October. Nothing wrong with it, excellent shape. I pre ordered the s7 edge and was going to trade it in and knock down the price a little on my new one. ISYN, they only offered me 36.53 for it! I thought was a mistake so I asked several times. Looks like I will keep this one as a backup.
They always say NOT to use task killers

just for the recordd, i think the hardware issues probably have more to do with how verizon handles. stores and ships devices cuz its nvr seemed to matter what kind of phone ive had ive always had 3-6 warranty exchanges, and we all know those dnt come brand new in the box, usually actually someone elses defect return. there arnt 10000 dt2 out there that are defective, there are 1000 and vzw has sent them to 10 people each :/
Unfortunately, the only way to have a brand new phone is to be first in line opening morning release day. And even then, that you don't receive a phone that has already been tested/used by a Verizon employee and repackaged. Fortunately, knock on wood, I have my original purchased opening morning.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your phone sir. I've had nothing but awesomeness with mine. I will admit I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of dev support for the DT2. I would love to learn how to Dev for this, but I'm way too busy with life. I left Samsung bc I got tired of the VERY SLOW AND LAGGING OS. I would've gone the Nexus route, but I've really been impressed with Lenovarola lately. I know some of you aren't but I'm having good luck.
Anyway best of luck to you on your Samsung!
Okay, had the T2 since 3 days after launch. The Green Line appeared about two months ago, got a replacement. The mic would not work unless on speakerphone. Got a replacement and now the phone all too often heats up, and I get instant battery drain. When this happens, I lose about 30% of the charge in 20 minutes... Plus, little tiny scratches on the phone screen. I have never had a screen saver on any phone, and never had a problem...

Well as of last night my phone had survived about 200 drops on the ground. Shattered the screen last night and am now looking for replacement options. I am pretty loyal to htc as their products have been outstanding for me so that narrows it down a bit. Also, I am staying with Verizon so that also narrows it down much more. I was look at the Incredible 2 and the Thunderbolt as my 2 options. My concern is that it's not really worth it to get a new phone at this point. The development doesn't seem as "robust" as I am used to at the Incredible forums. I know thats partially due to it being a newer device, but I also know that some phones don't take off development wise like others do and development is pretty important for me.
Just thinking out loud. Any input would be appreciated

Haha yeah. HTC's keeping this bad boy close to their chest. Should be pretty awesome though.
The Tbolt has many of the same shortcomings as the dInc. Like torpid battery life. I'm a little skeptical newer 4G devices will improve battery life. The dInc2 is a great device if you don't care or won't be getting 4G any time soon. As for development, the Tbolt is going to be where its at for quite a while yet. The reason the dInc has so much development is because its very similar to the EVO. They can even share radios. You're not likely to see that again soon. Even with the huge screen, the Tbolt is better on the battery on 3G than the dInc, generally speaking. I still play with both and know this well. But if your dInc is dead and you need a new device, and you have 4G, get the Tbolt. No 4G, dInc2. I promise you'll love both, especially the battery life on the dInc2.
To me, it doesn't make sense to upgrade right now when dual cores are only a couple months away. It blows my mind how relevant and up to date the Incredible has remained. That's the only reason I haven't upgraded yet. Usually I get bored with phones after 3 months. This is going to be the first time I can actually use my upgrade discount from verizon in quite a while.

most higher end android phones have poor battery life from experience, even my blackberry had bad battery life if i used it in as little as 1 to 2 hour shots (streaming media nommed the battery like an anorexic cat) then again, bb isn't known for having great batteries.
and on phones, my mom had a fascinate, all stock, still had bloat, non-rooted (she doesn't want to, and i'm not going to force the issue) and every so often, it will be just sitting on her desk and the samsung warning tones will play, and she hasn't even been touching it.

That's the real beauty of the dInc2. It's not the bleeding edge. It's just the same old dInc with nothing added by a front facing camera (for whatever reason I don't understand [skepticism: all the new HTC use FFCs as proximity and light sensors; just cheaper?]). It's just been made a LOT more efficient. I tried this last night. I parked my Tbolt on the table overnight on 3G for about 9 hours... lost 21% battery the whole time. For comparison, 4G in that time frame would have chomped down 50% to 60% of the battery in that time frame. That 21% is actually better than the dInc running CM7, which is more around 35% to 40%.
My Tbolt set up is Gingeritus3D V1.0 Beta6 Sense 3.0 with Ziggy's kernel running freq_min 122MHz freq_max 1.44GHz, smartass gov. MR2 1.70 radio. That's just for reference if anyone wants to compare. I NEVER use WiFi, so I can't tell you about that.
How the hell are you dropping 35%-40% overnight? My incredible on the stock battery will drop around 10% in ~10 hours of idle time. Are you getting poor to no reception? I'm not saying the battery life on my phone is great, it drains pretty quickly when the screen is on, but sips power when idle.
10/6 is a long way to wait, and there's still possibility that the date will be delayed even longer.
Vigor does look pretty sweet, as long as the price isn't too ridiculous that'll be where I'm upgrading to. Though I'd probably wait until it's rooted too.

Yeah I just called and filed a claim. The broken screen really started to bother me over the weekend and I figured it would be a more wise to shell out the $50 to the insurance company and save my upgrade from verizion for a phone that I actually want(Vigor). They had the original Incredible's in stock so that's what I'm getting. Plus I get another home charger now hah.
Does anyone know if I have to return to stock before sending the device back? Will they charge me if I keep the battery?
Yes, return to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436&highlight=return+to+stock
They probably will send the replacement phone without a battery and you are supposed to keep yours.

I am also waiting for the Vigor, knowing Verizon and how they seem to push back all their big phones, that 10/6 is not realistic to me. So If SGSII lands first then that will get my money first....
I have been wanting to buy the HOX since its day of release however I keep putting it off and am slowly losing confidence in the phone.
Initially, I decided to wait to see if the battery would handle the phone. Despite mixed reviews I've concluded that battery life isnt really an issue and would give me similar performance to my Desire which has been an amazing phone for the past 2 years.
Then came the big showstopper, the flickering screen. After weeks of agonising whether to wait or not, it now appears that this looks as if it will be fixed via a FOTA upgrade which is great. Just when I was getting my confidence back in the phone, people started reporting issues with the screen coming away from the main case, plus others have reported issues with the g-sensor.
I've had a play with the phone on a couple of occasions and I love it but is it really worth buying right now and going through the heartache of having to send it back and going through the lottery of getting several handsets before one works.
I'm not about to jump on the SGS3 bandwagon. If the phone is not worth buying at the moment, I'm sticking with my Desire as I'm prepared to wait a bit longer if all these problems will be addressed eventually. HTC are not filling me with much confidence at the moment though.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

i got mine 2 days after release, first had a dead pixel and no other problems, i took that back and got this one and has been 100% fine no issues i'm so confident it is perfect i unlocked and void warranty lol
i would go for it you will have 30 days to take it back anyway so no like oyu will be out of pocket if you do get a defect just take it back.
Personally I have had mine for 2 weeks I guess I been lucky the first one I had was very very hot after 15 minutes that was HT23 handset. I swapped it with a HT243W which looking at the forums seemed to be better build quality a lot more robust. Still warms up when playing games but not too the point of scalding.
I used Custom roms on mine and with ARHD I was getting good battery life I am considered a light user 5 hours listening pod casts, 2hrs surfing and a few phone calls. I have a long commute to work.
Overall I really really love this phone. I have no regrets in my decision on getting the one X.
I must be 1 of the lucky 1s, first handset and no faults ht23 batch. I'm glad I went for this instead of the S3. Does everything I need it to do smoothly and the battery lasts me just over a day with over 3 hours screen on time

Where did you all get your handsets from. I'm looking at getting mine from mobiles.co.uk as they seem the cheapest for the handset on the length of contract I'm looking at.
I'm currently using GiffGaff as my provider but I cant afford to buy the phone outright so I'll be moving back to Orange when I eventually buy it. Thats why its important for me to only buy when I'm satisfied as I'll be going from £10 a month at GG to £26 a month with Orange.

The graphics issues (it's not just flickering) will be resolved via updates. If you're in no rush, there's no harm in waiting until the "all clear" is sounded.
The setting of the screen is a QC issue. The polls would indicate that either a lot of people are easily pleased, blind, or that the majority of phones are decent. If you're buying in-store compare a couple.
The biggest item (it doesn't qualify as an "issue") people aren't pleased with is that HTC uses two vendors for the display. One has a warm cast, the other cool. Most people seem to prefer the cool. If you can see the phone you're buying that shouldn't be an issue.
The only non-addressable issue is battery life and it's real. I get about 15-20% less usage than on my i9100 doing exactly the same things. It's passable but no more.
Other than that I've had the phone over two weeks and not had a single issue. There are no QC issues, the displays brilliant, and Wi-Fi/BT/3G all work better than on my i9100. Coming from TW I also really like Sense. It really is a terrific value; especially for less than a 16GB SGS3.
ive been the most vocal about QC issues
but i love the HOX despite all this and think its worth some effort, really amazing in every word, futuristic phone
having said that, i truly think no one with flawed HOX should keep it, exchange until you get yourself a flawless One X to enjoy and as BarryH_GEG said its best to pick it by hand it store
as for the displays, the colder one is more pleasant to the eye/brighter but the warmer one is more accurate and have better contrast/clean grid, users reported recalibrated colors for the warm screen after the 1.29
corruption glitches seems mostly gone with 1.29 too, this leaves the grey flicker occurring after over heating which im also hoping will be sorted with updates, since its never being permanent and Transformer prime suffered from something similar which eventually got sorted by updates
make sure to hand pick your unit and if you can't be bothered wait a while, im pretty sure HTC is working on the production issues
i don't think the SGS3 comes close
No issues here neither.
Battery lasts well enough, even with heavy use (phone calls, texts), lots of games, browsing, apps will kill the battery.
No screen issues.

Sorry if I sound like I'm flaming you, however I have to right?
The title of this thread is just utterly ridiculous. Of course this phone is fit for purpose, primarily because it can make texts & calls. It's amazing how many people are complaining about this phone and saying it isn't right. If you buy a phone within the first two months, maybe even three of it being launched, these are problems you have to expect to get.
The build quality issues are inexcusable. As far as I'm concerned the first batch should be as good as the very last batch made, however I know this isn't always the case due to different factories ect.
As for the software, I think almost every single smartphone on the planets initial software is flawed in one way or another. I suppose technically you could argue the One X is running 'Beta' firmware. It's Kernel is took from Gingerbread rather than ICS. In my opinion HTC rushed the release.
Until a phones initial release, there is never any mass software testing and so there are always going to be bugs. When I got my Desire HD on launch day, despite being an OTA the second I got home the phone still had a severe battery drain and performance issues that weren't sorted out for months! It was around February when those issues got sorted, and that update got pulled because it introduced new bugs.
The One X is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. You can tell that it's design has really been took into consideration, and despite being on my 4th device (I'm very happy with this one) I don't regret getting my One X and completely recommend it to you, it will not disappoint.
So the answer to your question, the One X is certainly fit for purpose. Feel free to flame me people, it's just my opinion.

What's your purpose?
I would prefer a phone I can feel comfortable taking out of the city for a few days, and with some way to access external storage - be it OTG or usb...
In hindsight, the One X is like a gaming phone or something.
I dont think that any phone is 100% perfect for everyone that buys it. Its all about compromises. This is probably why quite a few people carry two handsets with them.
Any new device released will have its teething issues…. even many cars launched have recalls in the first few months.
As I said, I have no issues with mine at all. Screen has no faults, its not lifting from the body, I am always able to have the phone on charge (even though I am a field based engineer) but lasts well enough when off charge.
The only time i see the battery drain quickly is when browsing the net, tethering or playing games. Texting, emailing, facebook dont seem to kill the battery that much as its generally just for a few moments rather than 10 or 20 minutes with the screen on.
We buy a phone cos its thin, huge screen, good looking and has a quad core processor….. surely its not rocket science to know that the battery isnt going to last as well as a Nokia 6310i?

What's your purpose?
I would prefer a phone I can feel comfortable taking out of the city for a few days, and with some way to access external storage - be it OTG or usb...
In hindsight, the One X is like a gaming phone or something.

You know those 30 dollar nokias make great phones... and they will last days on a single charge! Plus they're smaller...
Hi guys, thanks for all the replies. It seems that the majority of you are happy with the One X.
Just to clear up a what I mean by fit for purpose. I want a handset which isnt going to fall apart or malfunction beyond repair within 6 months. Some of the threads here are disturbing to say the least concerning the manufacturing issues with a select batch of handsets.
jaaystott, I don't think the title of the thread is ridiculous. I was asking a question based on what I have read here. If I had come out and said that the HOX WAS unift for purpose then you would have a point. Remember, I dont have the phone yet so I was asking a question that anyone would reasonable ask prior to spending a substantial amount of cash.
I am tempted to see what next week brings and then just bite the bullet and buy one.

Well if that's all you're looking for, then just make sure your phone doesn't have any build quality issues before you do something to void the warranty (like unlock it w/ HTCdev) and you're set. My One X has no build quality issues, and if you check out the "One X War Stories" thread to see about how well the One X fairs when subjected to "cruel and unusual punishment" ;p

I've received the first case after around a week, but during that time I've dropped the phone at least 4 times, always on a solid floor and from around 1 meter height, and I can honestly say I am really impressed with the quality of the packing, there is not even one visible scratch on the phone or the screen.

Picked up the One about 6 weeks ago... immediately had issues with the camera in low-light, like most have had..
Then last week, out of the blue the phone got pretty hot, and discharged completely from 90% in about 75 minutes, even while powered off.. It never took another charge after that. Went to Verizon, got a replacement sent to me.
Replacement gets in last night, it's essentially DOA. 90% of the time it has a screen with colorful snow (think back when TVs didn't have a signal, you know MacGayver and the snow storm). So I called today to get a replacement for the replacement.
If the 3rd one in 6 weeks is also bad, I'm demanding a NEW phone from VZW, and I'm getting a different model. Advice welcome on the new model.
I would advise against this phone if you're thinking about it.

Sorry you've had bad luck, because this phone is pretty great. Most of us have NOT had the low light camera issues and what not. Hopefully the 3rd time is a charm for you. There are some other great phones out there too that are worth looking in to. I have a coworker with the Moto X and another one with the G2. Both were fun to mess around with. Wouldn't go with the X if you're worried about the camera much (it doesn't touch a functioning One camera) but other than that it's great. G2 was pretty neat too. Your isolated experience is not worth advising others to avoid the phone, though.

You really need to go to HTC first if having problems like that. Verizon just sends you a new phone and it's a 50/50 chance its DOA. HTC should test it before shipping back. Then you will know 100% that when you get the phone back it will be working properly.
Although I do find myself missing my sg4, and I will prob be getting sg5,
this phone is a beast, and I love it.
very solid.
HTC Sense 5.5 android 4.3 already here and stable.
beast mode all around.
you got some bad apples.
my phone luckily been solid since day 1
no camera issues, phone is perfect
I never order a new phone on line. I want to see it and mess with it to ensure it is fully functional. My mom recently wanted to move from an iPhone 4 to the One after seeing mine and my son's. We went to Best Buy and had to try 4 phones before finding one without the camera bug.
The sales idiot kept telling me that issue was on all One's. I covered my camera completly and showed him mine totally black screen unlike the first 3 he gave me which were purple when completly covering the camera. On the 4th one, I finally found a good one and shoved it in his face, I also made the comment that he needs to do his homework before arguing with a customer who obvioulsy knew a lot more about phones then he did.
I don't mind their ignornace until they speak to me like they are the "god of all phones" and I'm an uneducated idiot.
If the One is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other choices out there. I think you just had some bad luck.
I found a deal on a Pixel XL for $110 and am thinking about buying it. I'm wondering if it's still worth it or should I wait and save up for another phone?
I'm currently using a LG Stylo 4 on boost Mobile and I hate the phone and the service. I only got it because I needed a new phone in a pinch.
I used to have the redmi note 4 on metro pcs and I loved the phone and the service. I've been looking at the Mi 9T but it will take me awhile to get the $300-$400 to buy it and I'm really sick of my LG and boost.
Just trying to get some opinions.
get it won't be disappointed
@NewbRooter89
I'm about to get a used pixel as well. Either a Pixel XL or a Pixel 2 XL. I've seen the Pixel 2XL in good condition on swappa for $150-165 every now and then... Currently over on swappa all the 2XLs they have currently listed are $200+ but the last one that sold was $157. I may end up getting a XL instead. The XL is the way to go on the og Pixel and the pixel 2. I owned every Nexus ever made and haven't owned a Pixel device yet but definitely look forward to it. Good luck on getting a great deal. They're out there just gotta look around. I've seen people drop a price -$100 on swappa more than once just because someone makes an offer in the comments. That's what I'm doing. Making offers and waiting for "the one." Haha.

Are you sure you don't have a virus? I'd factory reset it and format data and wipe internal storage if I were you and restore my backup afterwards or maybe ever start from scratch. Phones being hot can mean a few things. It could be some sort of virus, it could be a not so good signal or if you used an aftermarket charger it could mess up the battery because they aren't rated same as the ones that come with our devices. I'd wipe it clean and start over and see if it still gets hot and battery dies quickly. If so I'd get another oem battery off eBay and see if that solves it. Battery dying quick and heat point to virus....
Then again if others are having same issues then may be a 10 thing and will get worked out soon I'm sure.

You get a thumbs up.
I've had mine for about two weeks and I absolutely love it. If you want root, make ABSOLUTE sure you get a Google version and not a Verizon version. I made that mistake and had to get another one for $150. The trick posted here no longer works, so don't think you can get away with cheaping out on a Verizon.

The batteries on original Pixels are 3 years old now, maybe it's the battery getting warm and needs to be replaced???
I replaced my battery for different reasons and don't have heat issues with my Pixel XL.

That's what I thought... I waiting for my battery kit I ordered from ifixit.. hope this can fix my problem. ?
Well I ended up getting a NEW Pixel XL for $135. Every time I wrote in response to an ad on Pixel 2 & 2XL to confirm they were not refurbished units or not Verizon units I either never received a reply or whoever it was wasn't 100% sure they didn't fall into the encrypted bootloader category which refurbished 2 & 2XLs have the encrypted bootloader as well or the write up said nothing about being a Verizon unlocked device and it was which gave me anxiety about ordering at all and all the 2 & 2XLs on Swappa had scratches on the screen or looked like someone tossed em down the hallway or something so I guess it just wasn't meant to be, not for now anyway... But I'm happy with my XL! I'll use my it and save up for a new Pixel on down the road in some months. Sure is great to be back onboard! I had every Nexus there ever was starting with the G1 but I stopped with the 6p and the 5x. Can't believe I've been using non Nexus/Pixel devices since 2016!! I hated every one of em too. ??? I think maybe every year when the new Pixels come out im going to purchase last year's XL model and every year sell em and throw a lil money in with whatever I get for my phone and get another year old model...
My Pixel XL should be here Monday. It's an Amazon renewed phone so hopefully it's not on ****ty condition or I will be sending it back. I'm excited to have a phone I can root again and I'm excited to get back on metro pcs again.
I'm also pretty excited to have an AMOLED screen, 4gb of ram, and a good camera. None of the phones I've had in the past could take good pictures. My wife uses an iPhone 7 and it takes pretty damn good pictures. It was the only thing her phone(s) ever had on mine, lol.
Boost has been terrible. I'm an Uber driver so having a good connection and fast phone is essential. This LG Stylo 4 has potential but with a locked bootloader and so full of bloatware, is just been hard to use. Especially on boost's network.
Thanks for the input everyone. Love this site and what everyone contributes!

You're going to LOVE it!!!!!! I was away from Nexus since they started making Pixel's and now that I'm back onboard I feel dumb for staying out of the loop for so long. I honesty did not know just how much a phone from 2016 was going to impress me and getting my XL I was blown away! This is what I refer to as the real Android experience. I just installed Lineage 17 last night and although it has no features yet from Lineage 16 and is pretty much a base I'm good man and its great! Pixel will be all I use from now on. Saving for a new 4XL now. You will be one happy camper soon.

I bet you will get a Verizon model. Check if OEM Unlock is grayed out in Developer Options as soon as you get it. But if you don't care about Root/ROM, then it doesn't matter. It's a great phone and you will be very happy.
I got 2 verizon pixels a year ago, so android 8.1, and the phone trick worked to unlock them then. I would guess if either of you get a verizon one you could fastboot back to 8.1, unlock it then re-upgrade it
I got my pixel today and it was not a Verizon one. I already rooted it too! So far I love it. Since it was a Amazon renewed phone it did have some small scratches on the screen but when the screen is turned on, you can't even notice them.
I can already tell how much faster this phone is though. It's so snappy and smooth. Now I just need to get actual service for it lol.
It came with 3 free months of Mint Mobile and from what I've researched they use T-Mobile towers and I think I'm going to try it out. I was going to go with metro pcs which also runs on T-Mobile towers but I mind as well try Mint considering it's free.

Get a new XL. I got mine off eBay for $135 brand new in original box just like it was purchased on day 1 when they came out. Great device imo!!
I looked around for about a month before finding the deal I found. It was worth it imo.

I'm not ? sure but if it's not a new one then the guy sure fooled me. ? The way it came was exactly as a device would ship new from Google. That is a good question. Person I purchased from had like the most perfect rating I'd ever seen on eBay. I always ask questions when I buy something regardless of what the item info reads on whatever it is .. My XL had Android 8.10 on it when I received it. ? Do you know the answer to the question or were you asking? I'll see what I can find searching the subject. I'm sure there are ways and info on this.
So coming from a Pixel 3xl and then the Pixel xl and then before that the Nexus 6 and then before that every moto phone all the way down to the og droid. Where does Google get off sending out a phone to the public that doesn't work. I've had this piece of junk now for 2 weeks and it is garbage. 1st thing right out of the gates the fingerprint scanner doesn't work but may maybe 1 in 5 trys. Why would they move it to the front. Who decided that was better. Cause it isn't. The fingerprint scanner sensors whatever they are on my previous two pixels worked fine once in awhile they didn't work they just worked this one just doesn't work. It's the most basic form of the phone it's the first thing you do when you turn the phone on. It's the first thing you do when you pick up the phone and to open it with your finger you would think that they would at the very least have that part right. Then 5G I don't know about where you are I live in Southern California, Ventura county which is just North of Los Angeles county. In every instance that I've used 5G to have 5G on my phone and I'm trying to do something on internet it is slower than 3G it's like we've taken two steps back. I have to wonder if it's like this for everybody I mean all the phones all the manufacturers I got a feeling this 5G wasn't ready yet and they just pushed it out anyway cuz they had to have the next good best thing but then work though it doesn't work. Why would Google push out a phone that just didn't work I thought the whole point of the pixel experience was that everything just worked. It didn't have to have the best specs they didn't have to have the greatest screen or the most memory. But they worked well without all those specs and screens. They worked and worked well cause they were well put together on proven hardware. Then Google brought in their software unmolested. Completely vanilla and the phone's working they worked better than the other phones that had all those high specs and lots of memories high refresh rate screens. The original Pixel XL and the Pixel 3XL they worked ? I'm starting to think that that was in spite of Google. Whoever ran their phone department put one past the bosses there and sent out some phones that just actually worked. My brand new Pro pixel 6 it doesn't work and I'm writing this on my pixel 3 xl you know why ? Cuz I'm done with it. I've had my pixel 6 Pro since launch!! And yes I do agree with the finger print scanner. Had my share of disappoints with it but update after update it just get better... I'm on custom ROM my preference.. it's actually closer to stock with minimal tweaks added.. Also note I've had all the pixel including the nexus line and by far this is the best pixel I've used... And the 5 g problems none here I live in Canada Telus network.. everyone has their gripe!! Best thing just return it
TLDR
Bro... Samurai? You talking the Droidrzr forum that I WAS A PART OF? Dude...that was like 10 years ago...let it die...the thing is they were INNOVATIVE back then, they were creating new things that have never been tried before, and pumping out things that "could" work. We are now at the point where we just want a good screen, long lasting battery and a great camera. All of which the Pixel 6 Pro do NOT do
As the owner of the pixel 6 pro, from a LAUNCH DAY T-Mobile oneplus 6T, I am not going to lie. The 6T was faster after 3 years. I just couldn't stand the camera anymore. But my SERVICE on that phone was great. And the battery life I would squeeze 10+ hours SOT like I do basically every phone that I have anymore.
For overclocking, you realize we're pushing over 2GHZ right? Overclockimg back theb was taking an 800mhz chip and pushing it to 1Ghz. That was MONUMENTAL for such a small chip back then. But you need to google a few things before you rage over some abilities. The CPUS back then were 45+nm small!!. That's effing TINY compared to a human hair of 80,000nm! But we are at 5nm in THIS phone. That's 9 times smaller. There's only so much heat you can push through a chip, but we're also running wayyyy more complex screens, GPU's, GPS, bluetooth, everything. It's all done on one tiny chip. So there's going to be some give and take.
As for the fingerprint scanner, you gotta put the same finger in the phone at least twice and move it around, slight movements alllll around the finger and you will have a perfect scanner. Mine only fails if it is laying on the table and I try to unlock it without picking it up. But in hand? Every. Time. It works. Also? Wash your hands.
And for 5G? Fam...I get wicked stupid fast speed...the problem is if you are in an area that is congested...which it totally sounds like you are, your speeds are going to be horrific. Terrible radio aside, this is just the gamble you're in and you're losing. I recommend just switching it to 4G anyways since battery life increases by a literal hour or two just by that move andddd 4G travels further.
And did you mean "Cupcake"? Wth is cheesecake? I have been with android since Froyo, and don't remember cheesecake I could be wrong.
But my thing is reality vs. expectations piss even ME off at times, and usually it's like,"Okay...my bad...I figured for $1200 this phone would be great."
My biggest disappointment? The 50MP sensor. It's just 12mp. Just like everyyyyy other pixel. My 3a XL takes better pictures than the 6 pro. Fight me. It does. But I gave it to my mom. Are the 6 pro pictures bad? Not really. But it's not as capable as they touted it to be. And considering MY PHONE overheats anytime I try to use it really blows. But because my phone decided to crack itself in the heat one day google wants me to pay for the screen to fix their hardware BS which I refuse for the 4th time.
And Samsungs are not plastic anymore my dude...you need to get in your time machine...my girlfriend's S21 Ultra is wayyyyyy more premium feeling compared to my 6 Pro hand in hand. A better phone all around. It is faster, charges faster, takes better pictures, wayyy better video, last longer SOT, doesn't EVER get hot, charges STUPID. QUICK. He phone was at 20% and she has it capped st 85 for longevity but we started using the "fast charge" with my Easeus 100 watt cables and charger? Bro...her phone charges in 20 minutes. If that. We were BLOWN. AWAY. and it DOES NOT GET HOT. So I recommend trying then again and not letting past experiences from 7+ years ago fool you...
But yes, you're correct in some ways, they went backwards with "quality of feel" but you did get what you paid for...a phone that is overpowered with a slightly underpowered chip. But without proper thermal handover, an "overclock" would just throttle and ruin the experience more...
Sorry fam.
Oh yeah, the old Bionic days...that phone was a little tank! And then you get a forum like droidrzr where the devs and owners were all easily accessible and incredibly helpful and yeah we had a lot of fun there. The landscape has changed a lot since then (like Gytole said), and imho I think the rom scene took the worst hit when Google shut down G+. G+ was the one stop shop for roms and their devs, and when they shut G+ down everyone just kind of scattered like ants on a destroyed anthill although most of them came here. But yeah, although I am disappointed with my P6P I won't rage about how things have gotten worse because, hey, at least Google hasn't gone the Apple route and completely locked down their phones and ecosystem (yet lol) and they still do offer AOSP and we still have awesome devs around who are willing to use their time to give us our custom rom fix.
Thread cleaned!
Greetings to all. Just dropped in for a little cleanup. Please do not forget about XDA Rules regarding member conduct. Whether Google stinks or not is irrelevant, how you treat each other on the other hand, definitely is! So let's keep things polite and civil shall we.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My fingerprint scanner is about 98% accurate these days, it is very rare for it not to unlock my Pixel 6 Pro on the first attempt. that said i'd still prefer a capacitive on in the rear.

Funny you say that. It takes 1-5 times for the Fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone, but put it in you cargo pants pocket and it will open half your apps, turn Bluetooth off, DND on, and call 3 different people on your contacts list

5G is probably the carrier. You said VZW?? I had VZW, but the 5G was crap as well as the insane billing. I have T-Mobile and my 5G is fast but yeah, the radios in the P6 have been criticized from Day 1

After 2 weeks I put it in the drawer I'm done with it and it will stay there until there is some kind of major update they going to fix everything. I want nothing to do with that piece of junk. But here's the deal there's nothing else out there unless you want Samsung and I dont. I've had a plastic Samsung before I was not impressed I sent that back after about 2 weeks as well. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place what happened to the good old days of Motorola and HTC when the phone companies were competing against each other to actually put out good product and we'd have root for these phones before even they came out. Before they even hit the streets.

Man, I can't read that poop. Ever heard of paragraphs?
Want your phone to work well? Ditch the factory OS builds and install graphene.
Set it to enable fingerprint security, but NOT fingerprint UNLOCK.
You should never use biometric unlock because it isn't knowledge based and therefore not protected by your right aginst self incrimination.
Holy wall of text Batman!
Fingerprint sensor was slow on mine, but the first update I got in April, corrected that.
I totally agreed with your answer. My Problem is Solved
Have a nice day to all

Cheesecake was a tool they used to go after the Motorola servers to pull down the latest ROM every night. Motorola was rewriting the ROM for Verizon every single day and they used cheesecake to pull those rewritten ROMs off of the Motorola servers that were used to send it out to the wild on thier test phones. Something like that. That's how we had it. If you were part of it you would have remembered that. It ended on Droid razr.com. It all
started on the droidforms.net and it went to Razrforums afterwards after we got kicked off Droid forums. I was talking about the overclocking only because it was something we were doing then I'm not saying we need to do it now. My whole point about bringing up those times was because it was so much fun. Everyday was something new and the drama and then The politics of it. We had daily reports from livingchaos who had like an insider inside Motorola of it was just it was all fun. I don't know how much a part of it you were, but I was right in the middle of it. I was one of reasons it all got switched from one form to the next. I had a fight with a guy named foxcat He was a moderator on Droid forms. He said something to me. Samurai thought he said it to him and it all blew up. The next day, the whole thing that moved to Droid razr forms. Anyhow, sorry if I perturbed anybody with my rant. My my ill written rant next time I just won't..
Welcome to the 36% (https://tradingplatforms.com/blog/2...s-with-36-planning-to-switch-to-other-brands/)
I made it 4 months between January and May before I got fed up and gave my phone away. I went back to my pixel 3 xl. Just like you and I'm currectly in the market for a non-pixel phone. They have completely ruined the brand for me.
My previous phone was the nexus 6 and I still have it. I turned it on a week ago and it is so buttery smooth compared to even my pixel 3 with whatever ROM I put on it. If it wasn't for the old battery and camera I would love to switch back. It has Android 11 on it thanks to the modding community. It might support later versions but I haven't tinkered with it much lately. I'm getting off track.
I say I'm going to leave the brand but it is tough. It's all the small things that you get from Google that I'm afraid I'm going to miss. The notification of what song is playing, call screening, and call hold are all features I use regularly.
I've ordered a new phone and I'm going to test the waters. See what it is like outside of the Google ecosystem. I'm afraid but what choice has Google given me. I either try an alternatives or get stuck with an aging phone.

Android 12 works well on the Nexus 6, but anything close to that recent is pretty slow on it. Battery is not hard to swap on it since unlike newer phones where you have to probably destroy the display to open up, you can just peel the back cover off of it.

I've ordered a new phone and I'm going to test the waters. See what it is like outside of the Google ecosystem. I'm afraid but what choice has Google given me. I either try an alternatives or get stuck with an aging phone.

Hey I had the Nexus 6 too and loved that phone. It's been downhill since. Goodluck on your venture. I hope you find a phone that suits your needs. If you do come back here and tell us about it. I'm nearly desperate at this point....goodluck !!!

When I had my Nexus 6, (Sitting in the drawer next to me), the last phone I could easily root and modify, a co-worker seeing it told me my phone was like a Muscle Car, and she was right. It was.
