Somehow my maps app is running in the background and draining my battery. I checked greenify and it says the app is hibernated. What is going on? Thanks for your help.

Same thing happened to me. Couldn't force stop it either. After a reboot it was gone and the problem hasn't resurfaced.
Anyone know what causes this?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
As per the SS it is mostly gps which can be activated by many apps.
Greenify to be honest is pretty useless lately and has been seen to cause more issues then anything.
I have the same issue with no known root cause. Once I use Google Maps, I have to turn location services off, close the app and reboot. That's the only thing that ensures the GPS isn't being used by the app (causing unnecessary battery drain). I have the app greenified as well, but doesn't help.
Anyone have some insight into why this happens n how to effectively stop it from happening other than reboot? Thank you kindly.

Anyone?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Guess not. Maybe @SlimSnoopOS might be able to help but this is just a dumb situation. And I hate using Maps because I know it requires a reboot at the end..

In Location settings, have you turned off WiFi and Bluetooth Scanning? Maybe even Location Reporting?

Whoops, forgot it was renamed. I meant Location History. Which GPS setting do you use? I leave mine on GPS only, typically I have it off unless I'm out of the house.

Mine is also always off unless I'm actually using maps lol

Location history is turned on, but that does prove to be useful for retaining certain information for maps...ultimately I don't want to lose functionality in order to fix what seems like a bug...

Is this app broken? It keeps hanging on downloading and then telling me I'm getting 6k down. I'm getting a lot faster than that, in 2013 that kinda speed would pretty much give you virtually no connection.

Speedtest has been weird for me too. It hangs and I basically never finish the test. Uninstalled it anyway :/

Yeah my data has been working fine. It's been fast enough I haven't missed LTE, streamed some Pandora over it, downloaded several apps, and plenty of Web browsing, just wish I could see what kind of speed I'm actively getting.

Wish they'd update the app so that it fits the screen better and so it doesn't look so ****ty iPhone like

i have no idea. I assume it has something to do with data and voice being on two different streams?
I would guess....

That's exactly what I did that finally got everything working and great speeds. I took my wife's vivid and copied everything straight

i used almost 1.2gb of data in the past week with at&t. we are always on wifi like 90% of the time. same setup on our phones we had with verizon and tmobile. is this normal for the note 2 and one x? google voice works over wifi right? i just cannot figure this out. at this rate id go over our 4gb data plan well within a month.
if this keeps up i may have to go back to tmobile with their unlimited data.

right but when your on wifi, it shouldn't use data or am i incorrect? im wondering if my wife's facebook and weatherbug app are causing this when shes at work? ill have to check when she gets home tonight.
That is correct... If you are connected via wifi then your data usage should not be charged.

Are you sure you are connected to the wifi? I had the same problem thinking I was connect and later found out I wasn't. Also make sure your router is connected to the Internet also.

there used to be a GPS fix script but not sure it works with the latest version of android
I normally use GPS essentials to lock onto satellites then immediately open up Google maps
but I have noticed with the new Google maps satellite lock is very fast on my phone...maybe try updating your Google maps too

Thanks for this suggestion.
I had downloaded "GPS Status" and that also seems to work. But after installing TopNTP GPS lock seems faster. I tried the Asia-India settings but GPS lock was not very good. Global-Derek Gordan setting is better. However not getting inside my house, how to get that?
The India N7100 also has GLONASS it seems, does TopNTP affect that?

you were not supposed to get GPS in the house in most cases..it's just luck actually GPS is poor inside buildings, under trees, heavy clouds, rain....for those who can get inside the building should be thankful...else you may just get AGPS instead showing your vicinity but not accurate

Has anyone tried turning off notifications from Instagram? I've noticed that it makes a huge difference.

I agree, yes you have to wait a little when you open up instagram but it'll won't drain your battery. So I recommend this solution
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I use instagram on daily basis and do not have this problem. I do swipe away via task list regularly tho.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I installed Instagram for the first time this after noon and in 45min it had eaten 15% of my battery (nexus5). I too had to Greenify the biatch.
I'm frequently using Instagram but I don't have any battery drain issues. I always swipe it away though.

I've been trying to figure out wtf was going on with my n5 as well and its very recent. instagram chomps up to about 25% of my battery. needs to stop.!!!
Latest version of Instagram is using 100% CPU (25% if quad-core) be it foreground or background.
The only way to resolve this is to swipe the app away in recent after using.
Wow
What app is that?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I have searched a few times for a resolution to this problem, but have been unable to find one that works. I have noticed that when the media server shows up under my battery stats screen I usually have an update waiting on play store.
Is there any way play store could be the cause?
In other posts I see people complaining of 10-20% battery consumption. Mine has hit up to ~70% battery consumption.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm running 4.3 stock firmware non rooted.

Turn your data off when you're not using it. But most likely it's an app causing a wakelock.

Ok this may be a dead question, but something I would like to add. For the past two days I have not seen the media server in my battery stats. This is a shot of what I saw this evening. Which this is what I think my battery page should look like. I have not made any changes that would explain why it's not showing up. Any ideas or comments appreciated.

Not today, not sure about yesterday. This is not the only time it has not shown up for a few days. I also have not had any app updates. I think it's like bilgerryan stated that something is causing a wake lock but I close out apps when I finish. And usually use avg task killer to kill most running tasks.
