[Q] Suggested best method for backups

I'd like to try out a ROM or two. i was just wondering what would be the best method for backing up my phone before wiping/loading a new rom? I've seen several mentions of nandroid backup, but i haven't found a link yet as to how to use that.
Will the backup restore the ROM i had when i created the backup? Or will i have to flash that rom back on the phone and then run the restore to just get my apps/data back?

You can make a nandroid backup in your custom recovery. And the backup will restore your phone to how it was the moment you made the backup.

rooted yes, not sure about nand. I used unrevoked to root the phone. I don't think unrevoked does the nand unlock. I'm not even clear on what nand unlocking is. So i hadn't looked into doing that yet since i didn't want to unlock 'it' until i knew what 'it' was

In for this answer... I titanium backed up but need to know if that's enough.

Ok - played around with the power btn+vol down menu and found nandroid and i am running a backup now.
What exactly is this backing up?
If i were to reinstall the original ROM from sprint on here, could i use this to restore the phone as i have it now? I assume i'd have to root the phone first in order to use the restore the backup?

1. It's backing up your nand.
There's an above post explaining this already.
2. Not necessary. Fully understand the answer to number 1.
3. Didn't you already root? You couldn't be doing this stuff otherwise.

[Q] Clockworkmod recovery

Hey guys, this is a really simple question, but was not able to find a simple answer for this.
I'm running stock rooted and am thinking about trying a new ROM, the question is:
1) when I do a backup of current ROM through clockworkmod recovery, does this back up all my apps? or do I need to use mybackup pro or titanium to backup my apps as well as the clockwork backup?
2) if I decide that I do not like the new ROM, can I just go restore from clockworkmod and recover my old ROM (stock) or will I need to flash the RUU file to get back to stock?
Sorry for the noob type questions, just wanna make sure I am squared away to get into these custom ROMs

1) Your apps are backuped, it creates an exact image of your phone at that point. If you do a full wipe then thats when Titanium backup comes in handy.
2) Restoring a nand backup as long is the stock rom backup you want will get you back up and running.

You will need Titanium backup or mybackup if ur gonna flash a new ROM. The nandroid will backup apps, but only useful when you restore back to that nandroid. To restore ur apps after flashing a new ROM, you will need titanium.

E975: Backuping original LG's Software before going CM?

Hello there,
I googled a lot, I searched a lot here, but I did not find what I searched for.
I am thinking about testing the new Version of Cyanogenmod, the problem is that I in fact never did anything like this.
I want to set back the device to manufactures setting and then backup the original LG Software, so that I can go back to the standard before selling, or if CM isnt quite mine.
Anyone tips or links how to manage that?
Thank a lot before, sorry if this was asked before (I'm pretty shure), I couldn't find.

After rooting and unlocking,make sure you place the efs backup somewhere safe. You can also make a nandroid backup and restore it if you don't like cm. or you can use kdz updater to flash stock firmware.

Does any of the 3 Methods give me the same way of a full backup from the original software, or is there something else that has to be done?

No, these are different things. EFS backup is to save your butt in case something happens with your IMEI. This is one of the most important things, don't overlook it! Nandroid backup is a "snapshot" of your existing ROM, including all your installed apps and their settings. This is the easiest way to get back to your previous ROM after experimenting with others. And KDZ is not a backup - it's a factory image that will return your phone to the exact same state as it was when brand new.

the nandroid backup is like a restore image for windows. you will have all apps/settings from that time saved. here is a scenario:
1. On clean stock rom,root and unlock(unlock will also flash cwm recovery). Place FREEGEE folder somewhere safe.
2. Enter recovery mode and make a backup.
3. Flash any other rom ...and if you don't like it, restore the backup you made earlier.
4. Restore EFS with freegee.
5. Use Unroot from supersu.
6. Backup all your files(photo and other media to pc) then do a hard reset.
7. You will have a clean stock/official rom,like it came from factory.
All of this can be simplified by backing up your files and use kdz updater,followed by a hard reset. .It takes less time and it's safer.

what is to do with that zip? I'm from germany and I have no clue what run in recovery mode should tell me. On the Phone or on the PC?
If unzipped, what is there to do?
As I want to use the cm installer with 10.2 stable, I just want to backup everything important..

Im still waiting to flash it.
Anyone should do efs backup, so basicly people should be able to tell me how to do that or?

When you unlock the bootloader with freegee, it automagically makes a backup of the EFS,amongst other things(like bootloader state,imei,partitions etc). It's enough to place that FREEGEE folder somewhere safe. If you ever run into troubles(like no IMEI shown or you just want to go back to stock without using KDZ updater),just restore with freegee. It will relock you bootloader and restore EFS(with imei).

I have a question? What's the best option for backing up my whole device? I want to flash CM 12.1 but I need TWRP for that, and for TWRP, I need to unlock my bootloader, which (according to people here) means to wipe my data and apps.
If I use the Backup app pre installed in my phone, will I be able to restore if say... I re-flash my stock ASUS ZenUI ROM again?

Yes you can restore from the backup using the stock Asus backup app if you decide to go back too stock. If you stick with cm12.1 then I would use titanium backup from the play store to backup and restore apps from a custom rom. However titanium backup also works with the stock rom but if it restores stock apps on a custom rom they will likely crash like mad.
Fun note when I unlocked my bootloader using the unofficial method it didn't wipe my data so I didn't need to restore any app backups. As always backup anything you might need just in case something goes wrong and you need to restore anything.
Pro tip, when doing backups on a phone like that zenfone 2 if you can backup to a removable sdcard cause if something goes wrong and you cant power on your phone you will always be able to access the backups using a sdcard reader.

Complete backup on untouched MM ZE551ML

Hello,
I'm new around here and I've got a clean, untouched ZE551ML running MM .184. I'd like to start flashing some roms but I'd like to make a full backup of my phone first via adb, just in case things go horribly wrong. How do I backup all the partitions I need? Which ones should I backup?
