[Q] Recover rom from non-root Desire

Title says it all.
I am new to the android world and the information you get from a google search is convoluted at best.
I have a desire that I rooted using UnRevoked3. I was however misled by all the research I did that I could make a backup of my system and data before the generic rom was flashed. I now have a rooted phone without any backup to revert back to.
My phone is Ntelos CDMA HTC Desire android 2.1
I do however have access to a non-rooted (same phone and network) phone if it is at all possible to recover the recovery and system partitions without rooting the phone my cousin will let me do so.
Can this be done? if so a detailed explanation of how to do it would be helpful.

If I understand correctly you want to "unroot" you phone. This is done by installing htc Sync and running the appropriate RUU from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667.
Thre is no reason, besides the fact that you want to return your phone for warranty purposes and/or that you want to have stock system, for you to revert to stock.
Copying and pasting backups seems like a very bad idea since there might be subtle differences between phones which thus might generate more problems than it solves.
I'm not saying that it's not possible, it's not recommended. There are a bunch of other safer alternatives.

Yes I want to revert to stock rom which I no longer have. I just wanted to experiment a little. I never would have done in the first place had I known there would be no going back.
There are no stock roms availibe for my phone. I need a RUU from Ntelos not verison or USCC.

No need to, you can't backup a unrooted rom. Since you are already rooted just make a nandroid of that rom to revert to. Only when things go really wrong you need to use the ruu.

No its just that nobody has sorted out how. I ran the US Cellular update on my phone and got a stock USSC non-root phone working on Ntelos network. I then ran root again to get my data back of course.
Their app runs on windows pc and doesn't require special access such as root. All the capability is there I'm sure. just under lock and key.

What do you mean by getting your data back ? All your data is lost (contacts, apps, messages, etc) when you flash a new ROM. The only things that stay intact are those which you have saved on your SD.

There are plenty of ways to backup stuff from unrooted devices. However non of them provide any useful safety backup regarding rooting or flashing.

If there are ways then that is what I am looking for. I have no memory of Unix/Linux command line. I'm sure I have a text laying around somewhere and could refresh my memory. However I elect to ask those in the know to guide me.
I simply want to get a stock system rom from the same make and model phone on the same network without voiding the warranty on that phone. My service provider had very little bloat ware and didn't remove apps that I found missing in the verizon/US Cell stock roms. My phone being root or not is not the question. For that I don't care accept if I ever need warranty work done. And that is just my luck sometimes so.. better safe than sorry.

[Q] No Signal(sim card with exclamation mark) after rooting with all in one kit

I bought a new HTC One m8 a couple of days ago. I've made a call when I bought it, so the sim card was working earlier. I rooted it using "HTC M8 ALL IN ONE V2.0" yesterday so that I can restore the apps+app data via Titanium BackUp from my old Xperia Z. Just turned on my Rooted M8 and it doesn't recieve signals. It shows an icon with a simcard followed by an exclamation mark. Tried my brother's sim, no change!! Made a Factory reset(It didn't Unroot) still no change.
Please help me Guyz!!! Thanks.

Unlocking the bootloader wouldn't affect your device in any means except factory resetting it.
Maybe the tool you used changed the radio? That's the only thing I can think of. Try flashing a different radio

You don't even know if you unlocked the bootloader? This is one of the big reasons why toolkits and step-by-step tutorials are a bad idea. You are modding your phone with absolutely no understanding of the primary concepts, or what you have even done with your phone. Although the no signal issue doesn't seem related to your lack of knowledge, I'd still recommend you slow down and do more learning and research before messing with the phone anymore, unless you want to risk permanent damage to the device.
Also, all a factory reset does is wipe user data, and doesn't affect the system in any way.
As mentioned in the previous response, simply unlocking the bootloader should not have resulted in no signal.
Are you presently s-on or s-off? You should list step by step what you've done to the phone. Still on the stock ROM, or otherwise? Did you try to restore any system data with Titanium? How precisely did you root the phone after unlocking the bootloader? What recovery and version?

Sorry brother. I thought I was clear. Here is what I did to my phone. I followed this up. Get token, submit it, download a file which was sent via email and use it to unlock the bootloader. Root it at last using the perm root command in the tool itself.

I haven't done anything to the phone after rooting it. No titanium restores.. Nothing. I would want to relock the bootloader want to relock the bootloader using the same tool. Is it safer? Does it makes it normal again? Do I get my warranty then? Does it wipes all the data if I lock bootloader after restoring my apps with titanium backup?
Please help guyz!!

Nothing you did should have caused the no signal issue (simply unlocking the bootloader and rooting shouldn't have caused that). So its hard to say what would fix it.
You can try to re-install the stock ROM. Or try to relock the bootloader and see what happens.

Idk what Radio is and how to change it. Is it some code that makes the signal receiver work? I just followed a guide and didn't miss any steps. Please enlighten me about it so that I could try something out. ThanQ brother.

You didn't answer my question whether you were S-off or S-on. But as you didn't mention it in the steps you performed, you are probably still s-on. That being the case its also likely the radio wasn't modified by anything you did (s-off is needed to write to the radio partition); and on the same note, you can't do anything to that partition now unless you s-off.
I'd go with my previous recommendations for now, and see how that goes before doing more.
Maybe a silly question, but toggling airplane more or rebooting the phone doesn't have any affect on the no signal condition?

Maybe it's not making proper contact in the tray? Tried to remove it and readjust it a bit and put it back? I recall someone mentioning a similar problem months ago and when I read up on it it seemed to be a problem with the Hox as well where they used to put some tape on the back of the sim and put it back in the tray. They did this to "thicken" it a bit so it can get pressed down properly on the circuitry?

That's certainly worth exploring as well. It seems like too much a coincidence that this issue occurred right after unlocking the bootloader and rooting. But on the other hand, its odd as such modifications should not have caused the no signal issue.

Heh, to quote one of my favourite quotes from xxxHolic: There is no such thing as a coincidence in this world, there is only the inevitable.
Could be radio though as well. I went to do a search for this issue and found some of the old threads where they flashed radios, restored the nandroid backup etc.
But perhaps that's something that the OP can look into as well and learn some stuff.

It is S-on. My brother have the same phone and when I checked for his radio version in boot loader screen, Its something like "INVALID_VER_INFO" but my device shows a version number "RADIO-1.19.21331147A1.09G". We've bought both phones recently. His phone is untouched where as I messed up my device just for the apps and app data. I fee terrible now. Please help me to undo everything. I guess I cant even take it to the HTC service center as it says "TAMPERED" and "RELOCKED" banners on top of the bootloader screen.
I've used up all my savings on this device and it seems its wasted now.
Pease help me guyz... :crying:

You've been given several suggestions to try at this point, and haven't indicated whether you attempted them or not.
You can cry all you want. But if you fail to even try to help yourself, we can't help you either.

If you are talking about a warranty claim, warranty doesn't cover damage done by mods you performed. When you chose to unlock the bootloader and root the phone, you accepted all responsibility for any damage that might occur. This is the game we play. If you can't afford to repair or replace the phone in the event of permanent damage done by mods you did; then you shouldn't be modding it in the first place.
If you are talking about paying HTC to fix it, they will still do it if its been tampered. They will likely replace the mainboard and charge you for it.
But honestly, I think your condition can be fixed by software; and sending to HTC is not necessary. But you have to be willing to put in the effort.

I've relocked the bootloader and it doesn't help. There was no change. I tried to place a thin paper on back of the sim card to make a better connection. It still doesn't work. It now says TAMPERED and RELOCKED(after relocking the bootloader). I installed a stock firmware and it didn't solved the problem too.
I read endless posts but found nothing that can help the situation. Just waiting for help from my thread.
I want to try restoring my brother's backup. But is it possible to make a complete system backup to flash into my device without rooting? I don't want to mess his device too....

Nor will doing so yield anything that isn't already easily available here (so don't bother unlocking bootloader and rooting his phone just to help your own situation, its a waste of time): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

Unlock HTC One (M8) bootloader without data loss

I was wondering if it's possible to unlock the bootloader of my HTC One M8 without losing data. I've read HTCDev's route but that wipes the phone. I've gotten upto a point. I just need to unlock it. I've done all the identifier token stuff so I just need to unlock. If anyone has a method (free method) to unlock the bootloader without data loss, please tell me.

Backup your data, then restore it after the bootloader unlock.
There are a variety of methods to backup data (Gmail to backup contacts, Helium app, copy to computer or SD, lots more), so there really is no excuse to be running around without your personal data backed up (if that is the case).
Data loss can happen anytime (not just unlocking the bootloader). And waiting for a disaster then asking "how do I recover my data" is not the right way to go about things.

Um, if you are willing to shell out $25 and go S-off, you can. In fact, Sunshine leaves your bootloader unlocked as part of the process.
Of course, this isn't free (you have to use Sunshine), and for some variants of the phone King Root is required (and a pain the backside) However, there is a way to do what you are asking.
However, I can't disagree with the idea that you should be making backups anyway, and since you already have a token, it's not like you are saving much at this point by not just unlocking the traditional way and restoring your backups.

I backed up my stuff and unlocked without problem. Problem now is HTC Sync doesn't want to talk to my phone. It gives me a popup saying "This device needs a newer verison of HTC Sync". Im on the latest version but nothing works. I also made an ADB Backup and am slowly resolving the apps it gets stuck on like Fitbit and "com.google.quicksearchbox"

Thanks for the help but after I posted this I unlocked, installed TWRP and installed CM12.1.

About what you said, I made a backup and then had to restore my HTC M8 running Android 5. Of course I had recover my apps but not my pictures, they are in Google Photos now but not on my phone.

The point is that despite making a backup using the Google account I wasn't able to recover my pictures from the memory card. Clearly I misunderstood the "backup concept" here.
Saying that you have two choices here: one of them is to tell me that there is a way (if there is) to recover my pictures from the phone which will become my post a question and myself a happy man. The other one is to leave the post as it is. In that case, it will be just a personal experience.

Yes, you misunderstood. Backing up using Google isn't going to save or allow you to recovery anything from the "memory card".

What do you mean by "memory card"? Do you mean internal memory, or the removable SD?

Suspicious activity

After resisting the temptation of having custom ROM on my Xperia SS c1904 since couple of years. I couldn't anymore and tried to flash cm13 yesterday.
The device was stuck in bootloop and after nearly 20 hours of continuous effort to recover the device, I was able to get it back working. FREE ADVICE : Don't play with roms on your main device.
Thanks for all the persons for sharing the ideas content. Just a small advice : please use standard websites for uploading the files. Many of the files are broken links.
Finally, I had my bootloader unlocked (shame on Sony for their worst instructions which caused nightmare). I've trying cm13, I realised that it was really not for me.
Now after flashing latest stock firmware, I was confused to root as I didn't find any threads which was for rooting an unlocked Bootloader device. I've used towel root before but I was afraid to install cwm recovery and other stuff which might brick my phone.
So, I had no choice but kingroot.. it went smoothly without any reboot and viola.. I was happy.
Then I've continued to restore all the backups I've made using titanium one by one. BUT ALL OF SUDDEN, ALL MY DATA ON SD CARD WAS LOST.
I SUSPECT KINGROOT for the issue. can anyone confirm if I'm I just worried or my data has indeed stolen? Is there any way I can check what caused the data lost? The SD card is working fine. I'm glad I've all the backups on PC. But I'm just worried that all my data is in hands of ....... U know.
Let me know your valuable feedback please. Thanks in advance.
EDIT : I have found the lost data in "lost.dir" today. so, little relief from kingroot

Probably not the KingRoot's fault. I've been rooting my C1905 using KingRoot for years now and saw no problems at all.

KingRoot is actually half-adware, since it comes with Purify and if you uninstall it, it will come back. That's why I never use KingRoot after unlocking the bootloader and try out the SuperSU way.

1. I have seen purify, I have disabled it
2. I have also disabled few access rights which were enabled for kinguser app.
3. Also, found lost files in lost.dir today..
so., I'm little relieved now as the issue could be due to some other android setting.

Root without wipe?

Time to retire my TMO G8, but I've been using it unrooted for years, because it wasnt available when i first got the phone. Ive been out of the scene since the G6, so im not sure what a lot of the common tools are, TWRP i know, but whats a firehose? Basically, I want to be able to take a full backup of my app data, ideally using titanium backup, but ill take what i can get, as long as it dosent involve a device wipe. do i have any options?

Ive been out of the scene since the G6, so im not sure what a lot of the common tools are, TWRP i know, but whats a firehose? Basically, I want to be able to take a full backup of my app data, ideally using titanium backup, but ill take what i can get, as long as it dosent involve a device wipe. do i have any options?

So, look at this thread for discussion re backup non root device. It's in the Sammy forums but much of it is relevant to any non root device.
I'd ask though, what did you plan on using root for? You need Magisk to get root, and normally when it's installed data has to be wiped and you flash dm-verity to now have unencrypted data partition. If you don't do that, data will remain encrypted and inaccessible (except by the device of course).
a 'firehose' file is used by qfil to access the low level / partitions of the device. It's a signed file specific for an individual device. It's a somewhat rare thing to have, as it gives you pretty much full access to the device, without root.
but using qfil to backup your user data partition, would result in a huge file, maybe like 80 gig or so, and, it's encrypted, so it basically doesn't have any value to do that?
