Bootloader unlocked?
Try wipe cache, and flash recovery by fastboot again.
If you can't find the right TWRP backup, you can run the MM 401 RUU (will wipe the phone).

You can restore 4.30.401.16 and install 4.30.401.16 stock recovery then redo OTA you should get 2 OTAs 4.30.401.18 and 6.16.401.101
You can find the 4.30.401.16 backup here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860

is this a known bug or something else ?
thanks in advance
Yes its because of a custom recovery "bug". Reflash the (original) firmware and check for the changed TWRP recovery which should fix that the main doesn't disappear
oh thanks....
since i noticed that you are the O.P of this thread that i was reading before discovering the bug Collection of Stock Backups
let me ask another question, can i just put one of those stock backups on my sdcard and flash it trough philz recovery?
i'm on 1.54.401.5 Root S-OFF and unlocked bootloader
i want to flash this "2.22.401.5 - CWM Philz touch Thanks to MATRIKS"
is it correct ?
There's a new OTA this morning but when I try to run it it brings me to bootloader. (unlocked, rooted, never flashed a custom rom)

From what I read, I need to install the proper recovery, relock and then update. Problem is, I can't find the proper number for my version. I read I can use a lower number but when I tried it told me it failed security signature. Any help would be appriciated.
Should I just go to a custom 4.4.4 like pac or paranoid? Not my first android just never seen this issue but then again, only usually did this after support stopped on my phones.
You need a stock recovery and stock rom to flash the OTA.
Try to flash stock recovery for your CID and retry

You can also grab the stock recovery.img from the OTA that you downloaded. Instead of "installing" it select "install later" and copy the OTA.zip to computer(you can find OTA.zip in downloads folder on internal storage). You can then extract the ota.zip, inside it you'll find the firmware.zip, extract that one and inside the firmware.zip you'll find the stock recovery.img. Sounds like a lot of effort but it's pretty simple...
If you're planning on going to 4.4.4 custom ROM it should probably be an AOSP one and not Sense based. You'll need 4.4.4 firmware to have sense based ROMs work correctly, if you don't have it then y ou'll have issues with radio(bluetooth, wifi, data etc) not working. As far as I know that problem doesn't occur with AOSP but I'm not willing to bet anything on it
Thanks guys. Think I posted too soon. Relocked phone before flashing proper recovery. Working on that now.
Will give both methods a try.
Edit: took the recovery update, relocked and did the ota. All is great Thanks again.

Relocking the bootloader is not necessary to install OTA.
Hi Guys,..
I've searched and searched and searched to fix my problem and i'm hoping someone could help me out.
I have an Telstra Htc One m8 that i rooted and i had taken a backup with TWRP but i didnt backup recovery.
I had put Skydragon rom on and wanted to go back to the 4.4.4 backup. I flashed and everything was ok but i wanted to make sure i could get OTA updates so i flash an 4.4.2 backup. When i boot it tells me theres and update available and upon reboot after update i loose the wifi and cant turn it on.
I read about recoveries needing to match but ive tried different recoveries and have no luck. I'm not even sure if an update that arrives if i go back to 4.4.4 will work.
I would like to be sure they will as thats why ive gone to the 4.4.2. Here are some details i got after the 4.4.2 update

I think you can use the a recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
I just flashed the following
1. 1.12.841.17 2014-04-12--20-30-03 KOT49H release-keys
2. TELSTRA_1.12.841.17_recovery
It all works on reboot but when i update to the 1.54.841.8 ota update the wifi stops working.
This is what it shows now.

Do i need to lock bootloader before uploading?
I had the same issue when I restore an nandroid for Vodafone branded. After the 1st OTA lost WiFi, downloaded the 2nd on LTE network. After that OTA I had WiFi again.
I tried that and downloaded the 4.4.2-4.4.3 update over LTE and still failed
Could I be correct in thinking that the recovery is still that of 4.4.4 and has never changed
Solved issue

No matter whatever HTC Sense based custom ROM I install, the wifi never seems to work. If I select Airplane mode and then deactivate it, there's a message in the bottom saying : Fail to load divers(1).
Even the bluetooth works fine! Just the wifi!
I am using TWRP 2.7.0.2
Is the problem because of the bootloader? If it is, please direct me with the steps to the solution. Thanks
Those are outdated firmware & twrp you have there.
1. Relock bootloader and install this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
2. After 1 is done, unlock bootloader again
3. Install latest TWRP 3.x.x-x

keep it in one thread don't confuse yourself
try with another rom
check the md5 before install the zip and if possible check it while flashing
try to restore a stock backup as suggested before ( multiple time )
