Should I buy this phone? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I broke my old nexus phone and in market for new phone. I don't wanna spend a fortune and looking for a good one under $300.
so what you guys suggest? should I buy this phone for wait for Honor 5X just announced ?
Cheers

If you were used to the nexus and like pure android , you may not like the ZF2 interface. There are many cool features , but the price is bloatwares and more bloatwares ...
From the standpoint of performance , nothing to complain about .

Yes. BEst phone so far

very smooth performance. but camera is very very bad. toshiba sensor looks like good but asus camera performance is so bad. night shots very noisy, video features and video performance very bad. slow motion feature very very bad. blurry and supports only 1/4 . very old samsung phones supports smooth 1/8 slow motion. only daylight outdoor shots good only and only....
i think somebody must say asus's engineers that people uses camera oftenly, this device have super performance but if your camera bad people says this is poor quality device...

amazon is selling the nexus 6 for 299 today

It's an awesome phone. Buying is up to you

Nexus 6 is also $250 go for it (if size is not prob)
but i will say go for honor 7(perfect)
zenfone 2 is pure performance even on top of many apps running parallel it is something u wont complain about
Anyways wat is ur main requirement i will suggest u one according to that
Dont go for huawei if u want performance go for it f u want looks, camera and ios like ui its not at all near zf2 in terms of performance
Btw, camera is not that bad in zenfone 2 it is like using a old 2014 device(note3) but vide is like between a 2013-2014 device(s4) i compared them personally in indoor setting , outdoor is better
I hope you get the point , sorry for bad English

This phone also has issues dropping calls for me and I'm running the Asus stock firmware not even rooted. Asus support is no help at all if you have an issue, they just tell you to do a factory reset for every issue and wipe the cache, what a joke.

Thanks Guys for the responses.
Ya as @Chocketbear even i had a worst experience with the ASUS support, they had no experience in how to deal with customers. they phone is really good but the customer support service is really bad and that's the reason i am still thinking.
I am not sure how the HONOR 5X customer service would be and how the phone will be but i think i will take a shot at it and if i don't like it i can always return within 30 days.

Are you saying the fact that I'm running the stock rom? I haven't rooted the phone because I want to make sure there's no hardware issues before moving on.

Some have had no issues but if you google the phone you'll see it has had many issues. I really wish I had not even bought it now and gone for the nexus. I use my phone in my business and really depend on it for calls and getting MMS from people, but those are the main issues it has. I've went through the right steps and checked with my wireless provider to make sure the setting are correct and they are, have the latest firmware, Bla bla.
I came from a galaxy S3 and believe me....Samsung makes some really good phones, I just dropped mine and needed a new one.

Samsung's are a hit or miss phone as well. Every Samsung I have owned has been laggy until i put a custom kernel on it due to them trying to extend battery life with poor governors (they test well in benchmarks but in real world usage they take awhile to scale up the frequencies so apps like browser always lag). All their new phones have had a Wi-Fi connection issue that has been present since the release of lollipop (don't happen all the time just occasionally). The new note 5 digitizers are just randomly dying for no reason (my friend went to bed 1 night and when he woke up his phone didn't work anymore. Samsung tech support confirmed they have been getting this issue from multiple people and the digitizer needed to be replaced.). Samsung has the shortest battery lifespan of any phone I've ever owned. I would look into a oneplus one as they have nice phones with lots of development and you could probably find them for around $300 now.
I use to be a huge Samsung fan until they tried to completely stop development on their phones. I miss my old i777. I wish it hadn't got confiscated by the police.

Good use.

It depends on how much you're willing to spend on a device. If you just want a mid range phone, that can do lots of things near as good as the flagships, AND don't mind the size + the locations of the buttons, then yes, you should buy it. If not, I suggest you to wait for this year's phones - and also Asus' one as well - to see what's better.
Personally, I'm loving this phone. Maybe the only bad thing is the lack of major updates, since it's still on 5.0.X. But if you don't mind rooting, then you'll be more than fine with cm13.

If you're ready to put up with the bugs in the software, then yes. I'm thinking to move to something else.

Yes you should, the phone is really good w/ a cheap price

Can you guys still recommend this device?

I had this question recently for the sgs2 forum and was set when I find out att doesnt have them no more, and almost leaned towards the note or sgs2 skyrocket today when I had the most aggravating time with att csr where my upgrade date was changed for no apparent reason so I'm done with att and contracts but thats nor here nor there. Yes I tried to find these devices on craigslist but nothing went through and I rather save myself the aggravation with used devices from people that did who knows what to them.
So my main reason for even thinking of the sgs2 was for the dev support. And I know this device has some great dev support but the reputation for this device isnt the greatest like the screen and camera I believe. So with that being said is it worth the $400 for a new one?
Absolutely it's worth $400. If you want to put it in perspective a bit, yeah it's not as good as the GS3, BUT, it's about 90% as good for 50% of the price. As far as bang for your buck goes, it doesn't get any better without signing two years away.
Yup.
$400 for the GSM model is a really good price IMO.
I guess ordering one this weekend would be useless due to the holiday?
Also, what kind of benchmarks are you guys getting with the custom roms?
And I hardly hear any talk about the led notifications? Do any roms take advantage of them, I mean do they work well with different types of alerts like say just one color for google voice texts?
I think is worth I got a htc one s(had a sprint galaxy nexus loved the phone hated the network) so I got tmobile and I'm gonna sell my sprint gnex and get me a galaxy nexus unlocked the one s camera is really good and sense has improved but man this phone feels faster and with tmobile speeds I'm hooked

The stock ROM offers limited LED control app-by-app. Some ROMs have LED control with more granularity. Most people are using Light Flow to control their LED. It works extremely well. You can configure everything.
I wouldn't pay 10 pounds for this phone!!! Google doesn't care about this nexus!!!
Sorry I forgot , this is no phone because u can't make a call after 20 attempts or receive a call )
So its more like a mini tablet )

Mine is working quite nicely. I'd highly recommend it over others at $600-$700 for sure.
I will never buy a carrier device again after owning a Nexus device. I will get updates beyond what any carrier will offer so my $400 device is worth more than any $2-300 subsidized device.

As others have said for $400 its a wonderful deal. I got mine 3 months ago for $450. That being said the screen on devices like the OneX look nicer.
For that price, you cant really argue. I love the stock android experience and getting updates direct from Google. There's a really active development community for this phone (and the other nexus devices for that matter) and i've been able to check out a lot of custom roms and kernels.
Go for it
It's obviously still a relevant device if the OP is still thinking about this device compared to what's out there.
It's a great device at a great price. Not much to really say.

With all due respect benchmarks are not pointless or else people wouldnt use them at all. Its not a black or white issue. Its a bit more complex than that. When used properly they can serve to paint a generalized picture of performance for any given device. Admittedly they can also be manipulated to post huge numbers that do not reflect real world performance. They can also be used as a tool to diagnose or confirm a performance issue. Now in no way am I suggesting that these benchmarks are the be all end all but they surely are not pointless.
A while back I posted in a thread regarding this topic and asked the participants to explain to me a way that would ensure accurate results when testing our devices. No one responded, probably because nobody cares. It seems there two kinds of people here with regards to benchmarks. Those who use them and those who do not. And I have yet to see any rational discussion on this topic. not that im looking for it.
Anyways My Gnex scored a 6801 on AnTuTu
GNEX- Running AKOP 4.04 with Francos Kernel overclocked to 1344MHz
What's not to like? I have had this phone for a few months now, rooted it the first day and am running all kinds of ROMS and Kernels. I guess if you are running stock and wait for Google or carrier updates you may get a bit frustrated but I have had a great experience with it.
The camera controversy is silly. 5MP vs 8mp on a "flat lens" with a cell phone processor to me is not detectable (IMHO). I carry a DSLR to get my high quality pictures not the phone.
My only complaint has always been battery life. Coming from a Thunderbolt with a very large extended battery and a smaller screen, I routinely run out battery. But this phone has a large beautiful screen and that screen eats power. So I bought this
http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-IMP1000-Thunderbolt-Blackberry/dp/B003ZBZ64Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338036621&sr=8-1
and my problems are solved. But performance wise, looks wise, and reliability wise, this phone is awesome. Just run the latest rom (AOKP), kernel(franco), radio (FC04/05) and you'll be fine.
First android device ive owned that ive not felt the need to root or flash a custom rom on.
Very fast and smooth phone.
Stock ICS looks so much nicer than any of the skins out there.
Ive ordered my wife an SGS 3 and im not even a little bit jealous. The novelties that it adds like pop up play i already have on my phone from a free app on the play store.
The hold your phone to your ear from a message to call can be added though smart gestures.
Tried S voice on my phone and i honestly think that speaktoit assistant is better so i deleted the S voice. ( before it was patched )
2 of my friends have One X and i hate the new sense. The only thing i like from the newer phones is the burst mode which again can be added through an app.
The Galaxy Nexus will recieve much better support than other phones obviously in case you care about that.
Great phone and i plan on keep it for quite a while.
Edit: Oh yeah and use light flow for the notification light. I have blue for sms... Green for Gmail... Red for missed call... Yellow for Gtalk etc etc. Again another free app
How about the onscreen buttons , is that hard to get used to?
I upgraded from an og EVO4g and after this I will never use anything but a Nexus phone ever again. LightFlow unlocks all of the LED notification colors, and the 5mp camera on this phone blows the 8mp camera of my Evo out of the water.

Not hard to get used to, but then I've had a Honeycomb tablet for about a year.
This phone is undeniably worth the $400. I'm getting the GS3 for my husband, and I'm not even jealous.
other than the dodgy radio's it's the best phone ive had soo far. runs ics as it's suppose to be.

Nexus , does it fit my criteria?

Hi all i've been eyeing on the nexus for ...hmmm 6months or so ? i loved it's screen and m minimalistic design , after consulting my dad a few days ago he agreed to get one for me after my exams so i've done my fair share of research on the phone and i doubt it will fit my criteria for a phone ....so here are my worries
1. Transferring files from computer , i heard Nexus don't support usb mass storage , is that true? i have a ton of music waiting to be sent to my phone when i get it and if it can't transfer via computer then i might find a phone elsewhere ( if it can't use usb mass storage how do you sent roms to your phone )
2. Volume for me music and video sharing with my friends are very important blasting songs from the speaker or watching a funny video but the dilemma is the speaker is horrible i heard from a fair share of articles and videos which i am a little worried
3. Battery , many reviews have been criticising the nexus's battery saying that it hardly lasts a day for them and the 1750mAh battery just ain't enough is that true ?
4. Camera , 5 megapixels ....is it enough? i've seen some sample shots and they are far than impressive ....the quick capture ability is pretty cool to be honest
this phone is a major buy for me since i've been eyeing on it for so long and it cost quite a lot ....
oh and here are my criteria for a android smartphone
1. Speed , the processor should be quick enough for everyday use and some decent gaming
2. 3G and 4G not needed , being only 17 i cant afford 3G so connectivity ain't really important for me
3. Community, i love discussing problems , exchanging roms with my android smartphone something nexus excels at! ( i love miui JB!! )
4. Uniqueness , my phone must stand out from the crowd , looking special and eye catching the minimalistic design and it's rarity in my area makes the nexus an ideal candidate
5. Price the nexus has dropped a total of RM700 since the day it reached malaysian shores the price was originaly RM2099( 675USD ) and now it's RM1300 ( 418 USD ) which really made my father consider getting it
so is the nexus perfect for me ? or should i look somewhere else?
1. you can still transfer files but its in MTP mode, which is abit like how you transfer files from digital cameras. its abit weird but it works just fine most of the time.
2. audio not too bad and you can get custom kernels to boost the audio for you if you would root your phone.
3. battery is fine, lasts a day easily for me, about 4 hours of on screen time on average.
4. camera is decent. not the best out there, but the quick snapping makes up for that and they still look nice
and the phone meets all your other criteria grab the google play version with is 3G only and you're set
Just a thought... if you're using your phone a lot to blast music and video to multiple friends you may want to just spend a couple bucks and get some speakers you can plug in. The volume is alright on the Gnex but you are not going to be hosting a dance party with it.
I noticed you said you didn't want 3g or 4g. Check with your carrier to make sure they won't require you to have a data package with the nexus.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
to be honest i don't know what are carriers ... all i know is there are ads in the papers with nexus price rather cheaply but have to be paid back at a monthly rate , anyways i am getting my nexus straight from a retialer , going to the shop and just buy it
Speaker sound is low even with kernel tweaks. Luckily I usually hook it to external speakers.
Camera is not good. Only takes good photos when outside in sunlight. I wouldn't say its about it being 5 megapixels (there are plenty good 5 mega pixel cameras out there), but about the flash and camera lense. There is almost zero shutter lag though, which is a plus. All in all I hate the camera on this device. One of the worst cameras I have had.
Software is great, development is great, battery is great on my GSM Nexus, performance is great with Jelly Bean.
Camera, screen tinge and grain (can be sort of fixed with root and screen adjustments), and speaker are all below average IMO.
Zero shutter lag feature was removed by Google in one of the latter updates. You might be able to do it with a custom ROM, but if you want to stay on the latest stock you can forget about that feature. Apart from that the camera is alright but it's nothing special.
Battery life depends on use. Since you are planning to not use 3G you should be able to get a pretty good battery life out of it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
so the speaker is bad? cant any kernel fix this issue?

It really depends on if you are going to buy a GSM phone or CDMA phone. I prefer the GSM Nexus over the Verizon or Sprint one. The Nexus would be the best phone to get for development because its easy to root and has a ton of roms and developments. But it is an older phone and there is a new Nexus coming out soon, so development may slow down a tad.
I don't really know what other phone would be a good alternative because I don't have another one. People seem to like the GSM Samsung Galaxy S2, S3 and Note.
I really liked HTC phones in the past, and they usually have great cameras, but they have been kind of iffy lately. Still the One X might be worth checking out. There is no sdcard or removable battery on that phone though.
Nexus is one of the best IMO but has some faults that I will make sure my next phone doesn't have.
I thought u already bought the phone. No wonder i havent seen u around. Nevermind that, here some info..
if u buy the phone straight from a retailer, there is no need to choose to have data plan or not. In malaysia, it all depends on the carrier(sim kad, celcom, digi, maxis). And u will get the gsm version, malaysian always use gsm.
**Be noted that first time turning on the phone, quickly(really quick) turn off data usage under setting or use a sim kad with no kredit, if not, it will auto connect to the net and ur kredit will be used A LOT!
1. You wont notice any lag at all with this phone. Even if there is, it rarely happen and it dont lag much.
2. The battery is great, u wont be using any 3g, so the battery will probably last u the whole day. My average battery life:
Wifi on: onscreen time-around 4-5 hours
3g on: onscreen time-around 3-4 hours
**this is onscreen time, however, the idle time with this phone is amazing, i never have to worry if i go out with the battery not full.
I wont recommend an S2, the speaker, camera and hardware is almost the same as nexus, but more laggier. My friend has one, and his phone always hang and lag like an xperia x8(no custom rom). Plus, S2 price is RM1300+, why pay more for a crappier phone when u can have a better one at a lower price. Im not being biased here but this is my observation..

If you ordered it already it's useless for us to tell you if it's a good deal or not. You'll answer that yourself in a matter of days/weeks.
It would be nice if you'd share with us your findings, though.

Worthy upgrade? Any flagship from this year is an upgrade from the GNex. On stock, it may not feel as smooth as a stock Nexus 4/5 though. Personally I don't like how the back looks like. Looks like extremely cheap frail plastic, but hey that's just looks in my eye.
I would say both Samsung and LG sucks in their own ways. LG makes horrible power buttons on the Nexus 4, Samsung for our phone has terrible everything, crappy screen, fault NAND for some, battery that goes to **** (random shut downs).

I never liked the design of the G2. Like someone else said, the back looks ugly. And I never liked company branding on the front of the device. Verizon always does that. And I dont like custom company Android skins. I switched to T-Mobile and got myself a Nexus 5 and I love the crap out of it. lol

I'm considering the same upgrade. I was going to get a Nexus 5 until I saw the reviews of issues with it and a few YouTube comparisons of the two. Plus I'd have to switch carriers. Let us know of any issues with the G2 if you end up having any.
The g2 kills it over the nexus 5, if your worried about updates just flash cyanogenmod 11 on it.
I don't want to rely on CM11 to do a better job than LG. I'd stay with flagship nexus because it's a safe assurance that Ota will come unlike the abandoned Optimus series that was tragically killed by LG

true, but soon ill be getting a job and i might not get this amount of time to do all these stuff, so i need a phone which fills my needs perfectly and for now thats the g2 battery backup of 60 hrs with 3.5 hours of screen on time ! thats HUGE ! if used continiously about 9 hours of screen on time fuking amazing

Just curious, what features do you like about the G2 that the Nexus 5 can't do?
I never liked the design of the G2. Like someone else said, the back looks ugly. And I never liked company branding on the front of the device. Verizon always does that. And I dont like custom company Android skins. I switched to T-Mobile and got myself a Nexus 5 and I love the crap out of it. lol

Branding isn't that bad though. At least on certain devices they look and feel almost identical when u hold it up the wrong or right way up (especially the Nexus 5) With branding, you can at least "see" your holding the phone upside down. After a while, you'll probably get used to the device after a while.
Not that I'm a fan of branding, but it at least has a purpose. US carrier branding usually looks bad though.

i love the companys finishing touches . i hate touchwhiz and the way it makes the note 3 slow compared the g2. but lg has actually worked on this device a lot i can say.
all the issues i know about the g2

As for power button and touch to wake, the G2 is superior to the N5. N5 faces heavy battery drain (a few % an hour with it enabled). Seems like the panel used in the N5 is way different than the G2. If you need battery life, then the G2 is the right device for you haha. We all have different needs and preferences, this is the beauty of Android as we have choices.
enjoy your new phone dude! Nice choice :good:
PS: About Nexus 5... I had the chance to play with it for a while on a nearby shop...it felt so plastic and cheap, more like a toy than a real phone. For a sec I thought it was some kinda dummy phone but that wouldn't be possible since I was interacting with it. Gnex on my other hand seemed more like the real deal...even nexus 4... I don't know if you're getting me. Since I am a nexus fan, I would buy the damn thing (probably soon) but it is so light and plastic that it seems unreal
i got the g2 this afternoon <3 is so amazing ! lets see how it does after some usage

Yeap it feels extremely light to hold. But I have a 3.4k mAh battery replacement on my GNex, so yea haha. Any phone will feel super thin and light after using my fat and heavy phone for months.
As for plastic feel, the longer I held my friend's Nexus 5, I felt the build wasn't too bad and quite nice. Either way I'll use a case on the N5 if I get one. I never used any protection on the GNex but the N5 feels too dangerous to hold naked lul. And newer screens are worse at preventing cracks than older screens so I'll also probably get a screen protector on the N5 (but I hate screen protectors!)

Concerns with purchasing a Zenfone 2.

Today I have been looking at new phones to purchase since I broke my old one. I like the price and specs of the Asus Zenfone 2.
My question to those of you here who have used this phone is, have you had any major issues with it that would warrant a replacement? Also, would it be a good phone to set up a custom modded rom on or should I look into other alternatives?

Had mine since new , battery is better now than when I first used it at the beginning >19 months ago .
Brought it back from brick successfully every time .
Nougat is available now cm14.1 and although unofficial at the moment , it is great for me as main ROM and I am sure it will go from strength to strength.
Again , it all depends what you really want, I was contemplating a newer device this year but the devs bringing N changed my mind for at least another year.
This is the longest I have ever kept a phone BTW and its going no- where, any time soon.
Mines the ze551ml z00a 64gb 4gb ram 2.3ghz version comes with fast charger adapter.

Awesome! My biggest concern was going to be the battery. Some of the reviews I have read for the phone have been concerning in regards to the battery. Someone even said that the battery expanded and popped up their screen. Seemed a bit crazy. Is it true that the battery can't be removed? At least not by conventional methods... Also what carrier are you using it on?
Edit: Just noticed you are in the UK so the carrier thing won't help answer all my questions. LOL. However, it looks like it should be compatible with many of the carriers in the US.
Not seen many US people making threads about bands so should be OK
I definitely not suggest you this phone. (unless you pay it 100€)
-Poor battery life
-Bad quality construction (Speaker braking and ghost touch almost on every device after 6-12 months)
-Too big and heavy (this may be subjective).
-Bad software optimization
I'm moving to Lenovo Zuk Z2.
This is an old phone now. Get something new. :good:

DONT buy it
Reasons?:
-Poor battery life
-Ghost touches everywhere (defective phones, no matter how many times do you use warranty, ghost touches always come back)
-ASUS really dont want you to use other roms (its kinda easy to use other roms if you are experienced, but if you are a noob with android rooting, unlocking bl and that ****, you'll have some troubles).

Mines great , like already mentioned.
I don't experience anything like you lot have experienced
Will do me for another year at least.
I had the HTC one m7 4g version from new , camera went pink and battery would be approx 27% when I got home from a shift(below health and battery longevity threshold) and it would get hotter than the sun , whereas same shift and I'm in the high 70's % with the zenny
Not a scratch on it , no ghost sh1t or anything.
When it was new , battery was like the m7 with stock ROM
Nothing but praise at a 3rd the price of the HTC one

As you can see there are a few who have had issues with their device, but there are the exceptions rather than the rule. EVERY phone line will have some who have issues. I think some of those here wouldn't be happy with a phone that lasts ten years on a charge and could cook and clean for them, but I digress.
I have had the US version of the ZE551ML 64GB since launch day. Great phone, great performance, good battery life (lasts me all day and then some, but my wife can kill it in no time when she gets to seriously playing games on it; it is a phone and not a Gameboy). I have used mine on the AT&T/Cricket network with no problems whatsoever. It should work on T-mobile but it does not have band 12 so I don't know how solid it would be on LTE.
I did have to RMA my original phone just before the one year warranty ran out, but it was not for a failure. On mine the glue between the glass and LCD separated; this did not affect its performance but it did create a silver outline around the screen. Asus replaced my phone without an issue because they were out of replacement screens at the time. I would have no issue whatsoever with buying another ZE551ML.
Don't bother dude, it's got the ****tiest build quality. Mine looks like it came from the trash. Sure it runs smooth, but ghost touches are a *****.

Yeah, there has been a lot of tossing and turning over the quality of this phone. As my issue is being the cost of the phone, I am trying not to spend too much more than $200. Actually noticed that the Zenfone 3 was around and considered getting the Laser. After some research and thinking though I'm going with the Moto G4, maybe the G4 Plus.
I'm actually in the same boat here.
I am tired of being stuck to a carrier.
Currently on sprint and the service just sucks. I can spend less than $200 for the 64gb ZE551ml and can switch to metro or something. I don't have the money to spend on super high end phones.
I saw the Zenfone 3 laser but not sure what to do.
I was super intrigued when I first saw this phone.

This is the phone I have decided to go with. I have not ordered one yet as I am not in a dire need for a phone but it looks really good and its a more recent release compared to the Zenfone 2. The Zenfone 3 laser was my second choice or even the Honor 5x.
4gb ram 64gb version is $300
It is but I don't really have a need for all that. The biggest issue I had with my last phone was the processor was just crap.

I mostly saw 2gb versions XD. Don't get me wrong. I would not mind a 4gb phone but as per preference I would rather just get the newer hardware.
Edit: I should also note that I had not looked at much other phones yet at the time of this posting.
O_O I think i may have misread something when i was looking at Zenfone 2's. Forgive my stupidity. It would seem I need to look more into it. In the end though its gonna come down to price at the time of purchase. Wouldn't happen to have link to your model for a decent price would you?

Still worthing buy the Nexus 5x in 2017?

Hello everyone!
So the new google pixel is out but it's pretty costly and since the budget is limited i was looking for a more economic option, so here i am.
Do you think that Nexus 5x is still good phone in 2017? Are you still satisfied with it or it should be better take a look for another phone?
Thanks in advance!

that's kinda single case. in general the N5X works very good, is easy to handle/to mod and its greatly supported by developers and Google.
also, the Nexus is always first in getting Android updates alongside with Pixel. so yeah, imo its still worth it to buy.

Yes, I agree, it worked very well before the problem.
Here you have.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4izdD7l3BWY
Satisfied, and it is still a decent device. But if you are a heavy user with so many apps and multitasking requirements, I'd advise against it as a daily driver.
Yes. After more than a month of use, updated to 7.1.1 and jan security update, so far no problem. This one is my daily driver.
For the "right" price of course. You should try and negotiate.
I can buy three Pixels with my budget, but Im not considering changing my 5x as a daily driver yet. Using it since jan 2016, not a single issue except for the back cover getting dirty easily. Light, not too big not too small, not expensive, powerful enough for almost any task, great display, decent stereo speakers with mod, accurate GPS, good battery life with 7.1.1, always up to date, durable and impressive cameras.
Theres no better smartphone on the market IMO, of course depending on your wishes, you wont need anything other that N5X cannot offer.
It depends on who you are. A heavy user playing games, having a tens of apps opened or rather a decent one with social/media focus? This being a good device for sorta a middle demanding user. It's still got very good camera, vanilla Android, regular updates, good dimensions etc... Speaking for myself, I've always been happy with it. It just fits my needs
It depends!
i have this device from 1 month! it not so much time .. but enought for test it in deep.
the value depends on how much money you will spend!
because the 5x have some deficiencies compare with over middle range! display - battery - audio-ram is under the average!
although the cpu is a very good compromise: good performance and very low heat! and the camera is very very good too!
take your sum but i suggest to look something else and more future-proof ( mininum 3 gb of ram )
ps. I bought it because a friend of mine gave it to me for 100 euro 32 gb hehehehe and it have just 5 months. DD
It is a good phone unless you have unreasonable expectations. Works good for me

Despite of the bootloop issue happening globally, I strongly suggest avoid buying it or any google device like 6P and other LG Devices for your own good
I just got mine early this month, I bought it coz I know it would still get the next Android version after Nougat. This thing takes great photos, arguably comparable or better than what the current flagships has to offer. And feels just as snappy. I would recommend it.

Of course not all of us would experience that right away, LG itself claimed the hardware problem presented on Nexus 5X devices which causes the device to loop endlessly, telling to refund them as they're no longer have the parts to repair it.
I have my 5X, I bought it 2016, January and I wasn't aware of the hardware problem happening on 5X due to the bad soldering on the motherboard which the flash memory and Snapdragon chip residing on, few days ago I didn't knew that was the end making my $400 phone a paperweight, the worse thing is warranty has already expired plus I'm living outside the US and Europe so Google and LG's support are unavailable and are out of reach, so what now? Google left me out of the blue for nothing on this crap phone. I'm a huge fan of their nexus devices and 5X was my first ever phone I bought and same reason as yours why I bought it, very disappointed so never again to them and LG.
It's not bad for me to say him avoid buying it because I'm just concerned about it, rather than blame everything at the end of the day when it happens...
My opinion: just buy it If you like the stock android with quick updates, and modding/custom rom
If so, it's excellent, great screen, great camera, a lot of community roms/mods so you cant get bored...
But If you are not going to enjoy that you better go to other option

They said the boot loops occurred after the Nougat update. I got the phone under marshmallow and updated it with no issues so far. Not sure if the boot loops occurs on all models though as there's a couple of them. I got the H791 (UK.EU version). Crossing my fingers.
Well, I got it for £200 and it is way worth the money. I think it's okay as a daily driver, but if you had the money - get the Pixel. It's just.. better. If the Pixel is a bit too much maybe get the Nexus 6P. It's an upgrade from this although personally I find 5.2" to be a perfect phone size, and alas the Pixel only comes in 5" and 5.5".
I'm using this as a daily driver with the following, it is still fast and amazing:
Pixel ROM (6.1)
F2FS Data & Cache Partitions
Adaway
Franco Kernel (r32)
SuperSU (SR3)
Naptime (Disable Motion, Instant Doze, and Exclude Fit)
L Speed (LNET Tweaked for Mobile Data, Disabled Debugging, and KSM Enable)
FKUpdator for HawkTail1.2 Governer
Thermal Throttling changed to 46 Degrees Celcius
XThermal Mod (for Charging)
Substratum for "Swift Dark Theme (7.1.1)"
TWRP Classic 3.0.2-2
UX Sound Mod (Final + HiFi)
My short answer No, do not buy. I was debating the Moto G4 Plus versus Nexus 5x last November and purchased the Nexus. It is impossible to say whether I would have liked the Moto better or not but I would research alternative phones before purchasing.
My longer answer is that the Nexus 5x works fairly well but often feels laggy, especially if you have too many chrome browser tabs open. Task switching often feels like my old memory constrained Windows 7 desktop computer. This is without playing any games or loading the Facebook app. These statements are made while running totally stock with the 7.0 OS release without any skins or launchers or widgets loaded. Also I might be primarily commenting on software issues with the Chrome Browser rather than the device itself but when on slow Wi-Fi or 3G connections I sometimes experienced greater than one second User Interface glitches when switching between apps or even getting the on screen keyboard to load in order to type. This all happened while on a long vacation/travel where internet access was often bandwidth constrained. Still I found the user experience to be poor even under good network conditions. I kept a few communications/text-chat apps loaded along with the browser and email and occasionally used some banking or calculator or news apps, enough that memory had to be reclaimed which appeared to be the biggest source of the UI pauses.
To add a little more context I purchased the 5x to replace my Asus Zenfone 2 after its wifi interface had died. The Zenfone 2 had 4 GB of memory and always task switched with ease and never felt laggy (though it was not a speed demon) even though it had a heavier skin. My old Nexus 4 was very SRAM constrained which eventually caused me to upgrade but it never felt as unresponsive as the newer 5x.

Then that's great for you your phone is running good 'til now. It just happened nougat is currently rolling out the time more and more users are getting affected because the older the phone, the more it's getting to an end, that's why lots of users feels like nougat is the problem when hardware is the fault itself, google and LG already declared their statement about it.
