Today I have been looking at new phones to purchase since I broke my old one. I like the price and specs of the Asus Zenfone 2.
My question to those of you here who have used this phone is, have you had any major issues with it that would warrant a replacement? Also, would it be a good phone to set up a custom modded rom on or should I look into other alternatives?

Had mine since new , battery is better now than when I first used it at the beginning >19 months ago .
Brought it back from brick successfully every time .
Nougat is available now cm14.1 and although unofficial at the moment , it is great for me as main ROM and I am sure it will go from strength to strength.
Again , it all depends what you really want, I was contemplating a newer device this year but the devs bringing N changed my mind for at least another year.
This is the longest I have ever kept a phone BTW and its going no- where, any time soon.
Mines the ze551ml z00a 64gb 4gb ram 2.3ghz version comes with fast charger adapter.

Awesome! My biggest concern was going to be the battery. Some of the reviews I have read for the phone have been concerning in regards to the battery. Someone even said that the battery expanded and popped up their screen. Seemed a bit crazy. Is it true that the battery can't be removed? At least not by conventional methods... Also what carrier are you using it on?
Edit: Just noticed you are in the UK so the carrier thing won't help answer all my questions. LOL. However, it looks like it should be compatible with many of the carriers in the US.
Not seen many US people making threads about bands so should be OK
I definitely not suggest you this phone. (unless you pay it 100€)
-Poor battery life
-Bad quality construction (Speaker braking and ghost touch almost on every device after 6-12 months)
-Too big and heavy (this may be subjective).
-Bad software optimization
I'm moving to Lenovo Zuk Z2.

Mines great , like already mentioned.
I don't experience anything like you lot have experienced
Will do me for another year at least.
I had the HTC one m7 4g version from new , camera went pink and battery would be approx 27% when I got home from a shift(below health and battery longevity threshold) and it would get hotter than the sun , whereas same shift and I'm in the high 70's % with the zenny
Not a scratch on it , no ghost sh1t or anything.
When it was new , battery was like the m7 with stock ROM
Nothing but praise at a 3rd the price of the HTC one

As you can see there are a few who have had issues with their device, but there are the exceptions rather than the rule. EVERY phone line will have some who have issues. I think some of those here wouldn't be happy with a phone that lasts ten years on a charge and could cook and clean for them, but I digress.
I have had the US version of the ZE551ML 64GB since launch day. Great phone, great performance, good battery life (lasts me all day and then some, but my wife can kill it in no time when she gets to seriously playing games on it; it is a phone and not a Gameboy). I have used mine on the AT&T/Cricket network with no problems whatsoever. It should work on T-mobile but it does not have band 12 so I don't know how solid it would be on LTE.
I did have to RMA my original phone just before the one year warranty ran out, but it was not for a failure. On mine the glue between the glass and LCD separated; this did not affect its performance but it did create a silver outline around the screen. Asus replaced my phone without an issue because they were out of replacement screens at the time. I would have no issue whatsoever with buying another ZE551ML.
Don't bother dude, it's got the ****tiest build quality. Mine looks like it came from the trash. Sure it runs smooth, but ghost touches are a *****.

Yeah, there has been a lot of tossing and turning over the quality of this phone. As my issue is being the cost of the phone, I am trying not to spend too much more than $200. Actually noticed that the Zenfone 3 was around and considered getting the Laser. After some research and thinking though I'm going with the Moto G4, maybe the G4 Plus.
I'm actually in the same boat here.
I am tired of being stuck to a carrier.
Currently on sprint and the service just sucks. I can spend less than $200 for the 64gb ZE551ml and can switch to metro or something. I don't have the money to spend on super high end phones.
I saw the Zenfone 3 laser but not sure what to do.
I was super intrigued when I first saw this phone.

This is the phone I have decided to go with. I have not ordered one yet as I am not in a dire need for a phone but it looks really good and its a more recent release compared to the Zenfone 2. The Zenfone 3 laser was my second choice or even the Honor 5x.
4gb ram 64gb version is $300
It is but I don't really have a need for all that. The biggest issue I had with my last phone was the processor was just crap.

I mostly saw 2gb versions XD. Don't get me wrong. I would not mind a 4gb phone but as per preference I would rather just get the newer hardware.
Edit: I should also note that I had not looked at much other phones yet at the time of this posting.
O_O I think i may have misread something when i was looking at Zenfone 2's. Forgive my stupidity. It would seem I need to look more into it. In the end though its gonna come down to price at the time of purchase. Wouldn't happen to have link to your model for a decent price would you?

Hi fellow G3ers,
I have had the device for just over a week and I must say I am very unhappy with it.
Not sure if I just have rotten luck with devices but I've had 2 Nexus 5, both of which had problems either rooted or not and no matter what custom ROM I had installed and now the G3.
I am experiencing severe battery drain, a major lag on many applications and just generally not happy with it.

well, you either love it or hate it!
for me is the best device i had so far, comin from galaxy S4, take some time pal, remove bloatware, get a root, there are plenty solutions for lag around here... new firmware 10g does draining more battery( UK version) but give it a week and probably a new update will come out, if dont wanna wait just get another KDZ like the one from Germany apparently is far better than UK one, and try it, if that doesnt help then go back to nexus

Hey,
Actually getting an S5 because of the overall package, like Amoled, dev support and various other things like IP certification.
I might try and play around with other KDZ's but really disappointing overall to have had such a bad experience with supposedly such an amazing phone.
Never played with s5... But i wanted a bigger screen in smaller package i would say.. And i really started to hate samsung for this Knox.. wait till the the phone gets unlocked and you'll see what devs will cook for this device!
I'm very happy with mine. The battery life is the best when idle. I also avarage around 6 SOT so Thats pretty freaking good to me.
Performance side, zero lag. None. I have the 3gb version which is maybe why. I would never buy a 2gb of ram phone anymore simply because something tells me its going to be the minimum from now on and 3gb recommended for future versions of android.
Design its the best and most efficient of all phones. Awesome camera. Great natural looking screen and plenty bright. Brighter than the s4. Its just a good all around package. S5 would best it if it wasn't for the design and over saturated screen though.

I am debating whether to get the G3 or M8 and was leaning towards the G3..but on looking at their respective XDA development pages, on first look there are only 2 custom ROM's being developed for the G3 whilst the M8 seems to have more and they are significantly more active.
This is swaying me more to the M8, though I would rather have the better camera/OIS/laser focus..saying that, it appears too that benchmarks of the G3 vs M8 unfortunately make the M8 a better performer too despite having a higher clocked SOC and more RAM with the EU version.
I was also told in Carphone Warehouse that basically people are buying on brands so the HTC is flying off shelves and nobody is interested in the G3. The guy said that even he wasn't aware of how matched a contender the G3 was to the M8 until a rep from LG came in and showed them. He was really pushing me the M8 also saying that they have had 0 in for repair whilst the whole Samsung range esp the S5/Note 3 are unreliable and plagued with issues such as the battery expanding so it does not fit anymore.
I imagine people are happy with their G3 here but do people recommend the M8 if what I am looking for is active development of more features through regular ROM developments? I currently still have a I-9000 and I have kept it as it does what I want and still has a very active ROM development community.

The reason there is no development is that the bootloader is still not unlockable, so there is no way to actually flash a ROM if one was made. This should change once it is, the G2 had plenty of good development and the G3 is outselling it quite a lot.

Ah, I didn't know that..well with my custom ROM today just randomly wiping all my apps and data, 1st time something like that has ever happened and when I was even out and needed my phone, unless the bootloader gets unlocked in the next few days thenI am just going to get the M8 as I don't have time to wait for that. The first thing I would do is root and flash a custom ROM on any new phone so to buy the G3 and be stuck with an inferior stock ROM missing many features compared to my current CM11.2 based I-9000 one will end up annoying me.
Can I ask, how long did it take after launch for the bootloader to be unlocked in the G2 and are LG power user friendly or are they like some companies have been in the past and purposely made it super difficult to unlock the bootloader?
G2 bootloader was never unlocked. They find an exploit to get roms through. The only version so far that has an unlocked bootloader is the T-Mobile version in the United States. Development will come, just going to take a bit longer than other phones. But to me is worth the wait, however I am one of the lucky ones who got the unlocked bootloader from T-Mobile.

if you go look through the Bootloader Bounty thread in the AT&T subforum, you will see that @utoprime and a few others are pretty optimistic that the bootloader will be unlocked pretty quickly. not a "few days" quickly, but more like a few weeks. and once it is (or once there is a work around (i.e., loki) like with the G2), i would anticipate there being pretty stout development for the G3.
like you, my phone history has all been unlocked devices: OG, GNex, and N5. that being said, i got my G3 first day, and rooted within a couple hours. despite my long-standing flashing history, i haven't really missed custom roms on this thing - it's that nice. i'll have to see, but once L drops, i don't know that custom roms will be that big of a deal - Andy OS has come so far. the main reason i want an unlocked bootloader is to be able to have the OS versions more quickly.
IMO, you can't go wrong with either device. BUT, if you like the G3 better, and are basing your buying decision solely on an unlocked bootloader and a variety of custom roms, personally i would still go with the G3 - it will get there.

Thanks for ur reply...I just came across this which seems hopeful but obviously we know that these things are always faster through unofficial means. I guess I am looking at these phones as being able to last up to 5 years like my I9000 as I am not a conspicuous consumption kinda person and if something can still be updated/relevant and keep doing the job then I don't see the need to spend hundreds to replace it every year just to keep up with fashion.

After having a Super AMOLED screen for the past 5 yrs and being very happy with the vibrancy of the colours how does the G3 compare (and M8 too if you have used it)?
Is the G3 comfortable to use one handed and is there a tendancy/risk of it being able to drop out of your hand due to the size? This was another biggie for me as a colleague has a Note 3 which is 0.2" bigger and he complains that it's often awkward to put in pockets and handle. Tbh I have never been interested in a phablet nor something 1.5" bigger than my i9000 causing pocket fitting issues so if it was just a little smaller (~5.2") then I would have been sold on it. The M8 seemed in store to be just the right size and quite comfortable to hold especially with the weight, the G3 was just on the cusp of being too big and ok but noticeably lighter and I'm wondering if this would make it more likely to slip/drop. Obviously I would get a case for it but then that will increase it's size further too.
If you're wanting the phone to last 5 years I wouldn't go with a non replaceable battery like the M8's. The G3's battery is replaceable.
I have the D855 32GB and all I can say is I'm very satisfied even running on stock...
Had the N7 2013, it was awesome, but the G3 is just on a different level...
Once the bootloader is unlocked and custom roms are available, this will fly leaving the rest...

I switched from the M8 to the G3 (S3 > M7 > Note 3 > N5 > M8 > G3) size wise, the G3 is comfortable, easy to hold and relatively light.
Screen wise, you definitely notice the difference. Colours are more vibrant and bright on the G3 IMO, I don't miss my M8, not saying the M8 was a bad device it was actually a very very good device.
There isn't a lot of differences between flagship devices these days hardware is almost identical it's really cosmetic, I switched as I got bored of the M8 and I'm already bored of the G3.. Just waiting to see what else comes along before I maybe look at the OPO.

Lol a man very hard to please! I'm guessing you have more money than the average person as most would not be able to afford buying a new flagship every time they were bored of it!
I was thinking of the OPO but it appears inferior to the M8 and G3 from the reviews I have read of it except perhaps in price, but if you want to lose 32GB internal memory and gain an SD card slot then that may be worth it. Tbh, if you are fine with getting a grey import you can get any phone for about the same price as the OPO.
What holds me back from the Opo, besides not having an invite, is the lack of support through my carrier(T-mobile). If my G3 refuses to turn on one day, I can get one overnighted to me from them. If i have the Opo, and it does the same, I move looking at a much longer period of time.
I'm also not willing to pay for an invite. If i had one, then I'd probably buy one because I do miss the stock experience.

I have the tmobile g3, and i heard the bootloaders were unlocked when u buy them..im rooted but i have no custom rom, so im not totally sure if its true or not, i believe i seen it on here somewhere..

T-Mobile has an unlocked Bootloader yes. Check out the T-Mo section here.
Does anyone know if the cat 6 f460 can install the same roms as the US versions or will it need separate development?

So basically only a G3 that T-Mobile (US?) has branded and loaded with their own unlocked bootloader is able to take ROMs without any exploits at the moment. A stock G3 fresh from the LG factory does not and is not able to have an unlocked bootloader on it ATM?
I'm guessing then that means that it IS possible and LG can unlock the bootloader if they want, but for us lot, someone has to find out how to find an exploit in the blocked bootloader to load the required content from the T-Mobile firmware on to non T-Mobile devices?

Ah, I didn't realise there was an updated/premium G3 too. Is it any worth getting this one over the G3 as the specs look like they are far superior but I don't know how realistic it is that really affordable 4K TV's will be mainstream in even perhaps 2 yrs time to be more than just a marketing gimmick for the F460.

with 3 gig RAM, an sdcard, and the 801, i think the G3 will be serviceable as a daily driver for a few years - i don't know about 5 years, given how fast tech changes, tho.
as for the screen, if you really like Super AMOLED, you might be initially disappointed in the G3. with AMOLED, some people call the colors "vibrant," others call it "over saturated." it all depends on personal preference. for me, the G3 colors are more "true," and the screen is outstanding. i found Super AMOLED (like the GS5) to be too saturated, and almost cartoonish. but, again, its a matter of preference. i think that 4k resolution is going to be the standard going forward, and you are going to see apps becoming optimized for that. so, in terms of relevance beyond a year or two, i think the G3 is ahead of the curve, so to speak, and that the M8 (as with just about any HTC device ever made) will become pseudo-obsolete/outdated in a year or so.
the size of the G3 is fine. with the lack of bezel, it is pretty easy to use one handed, and i'm never concerned with it slipping out of my hand (but, i do have large hands). it fits comfortably in my pocket, is easy to get out, and feels light and slim in the hand. you do have to do a little "hand shimmying" to get from the top of the screen to the bottom, but i don't find it troublesome at all. tbh, if the screen was just 0.2" smaller, it would be perfect for me. but all other things considered, that's a pretty minor gripe.

correct, TMo is the only variant with an unlocked bootloader, and it came from the factory that way. but, again, the devs are pretty confident that they are close to unlocking the bootloader for the other variants. this device has been getting a lot of attention, and sales have been pretty robust. i think the demand is there, and we WILL see custom roms for the G3.

so far, the "premium" G3 has only been announced in Korea, and the ONLY difference is it has an 805 processor, instead of the 801. from the reading i have done, it appears that the ONLY reason LG put in the 805 was to gain access to the cat6 LTE bandwidth. if you are in a market that does not have cat6 (like in the States), the prevailing speculation is that the "premium" G3 won't even be made available by LG. if it is made available, it probably won't be until the end of the year or after the first of the year. a lot of people have been clamoring for and 805 version of the G3, because it supposedly has a faster and more efficient graphics processor. i really don't do any gaming on my device, so that's not a huge concern for me.

Yeah, I've read rumours it will be launching worldwide. Who knows.
I have to buy myself a new phone in the next few days and i can't really choose between these 2. They are at the same price here in my country, cheaper than the S6, and both give me reasons why i like/don't like them. I'd buy the OP2 because of the pure android experience, i really like it, plus it has some useful tweaks, the fingerprint scanner, and the metal build. On the other hand, the G4 has that amazing camera, and the better screen. I don't really care about removable batery or the memory card, because if i'll buy the OP2 i'll buy the 64gb version, and if the battery lasts easily all day, no problem. I've read about the touchscreen and the led issues the G4 has, and those make me, somehow, stay away from the G4. Oh, and i won't get myself in that annoying invite system that OnePlus offers, there are some online shops that already have the phone.
What would you choose if you were in my place? I'm looking forward to your answers!
I personally LOVE my LG G4. I have had very little of the screen and lag issues that people were talking about (and after getting myself the 10c update I have literally no bugs at all).
I generally tell people it comes down to the users personal taste when making a decision like this, but anytime the G4 is an option I tend to lend my vote toward it. The camera, screen, sound, and the clean button setup (all being on the backside of the device) all make for a fantastic device and a wonderful user experience.
This is personally the first time in a long time I went with something that was not a Samsung as my main driver and I am SO GLAD that I did....especially now with Root Access and the ability to run Framework Modules this thing on a scale of 1 - 10 is pushing like a 12......seriously, I really do love it that much.
Good luck with your decision though and I am sure you will pick whatever device is right for you.....Just know that both are great devices so do not think I am hating on the OnePlus or anything.....no matter which way you go you are going to end up with a beautiful and power device that will be a pleasure to interact with.

I think you've made my mind. The camera, the screen and the phone itself make me choose the G4. The only problems that have been in my mind for a while are the software (the lg ux), and the display problems that a lot of lg g4 owners have seen , but hopefully this isn't a hardware problem, so it can be fixed with a software update, and if some developers will build a pure android rom for the G4, then I'll be vary happy. I've only had my g4 now less than a week and I must say it's a great fone and LG ux is a lot better than touchwiz which I had On my note 2. I do still miss the stylus a bit but the camera and general feel of the fone far out way the lack of stylus. I played about with aosp roms on the note2 but always ended up on tw roms so I'm looking forward to seeing how stock based roms develop here.

So, I have both phones. I couldn't decide because of the reasons you mentioned. In terms of premium the pot is way above g4. But g4 isn't bad either. I'm not so sure if I would say the g4 screen is "better". I am currently using the g4 but because a game I'm playing doesn't work well on the 2. Technically in terms of processing power they are similar. In high end stuff the 2 runs with only 2cores but the adreno430 vs 418 is ofc another story. About the camera, I can tell you it's pretty similar. I think the 2 got the right hardware, the rest is a software story. I would say the g4s cam is better but not ground breaking. But you can ask me anything. Both devices are bl unlocked and rooted. Just pm me

remember nexus will come out and for someone that wants pure ....given the rather lacklustre showing by flagships this year people are putting a lot of faith (too much) on the 5 inch nexus. They want an updated nexus 5 that came out in 2013. made by LG.

I'm really curious about the new nexus 5, and it could be an option, but i have to buy it until school starts in september, after that i don't think i'll get another chance to buy an expensive phone. So, i'll probably go for the G4, has everything i want in a phone, exept for the aosp rom, but hopefully some developers will do it.

Hoping is a risk. How long will you wait.
AOSP means you will lose LG's camera interface as well as the image processing which plays a big part in how good the photos turn out. The G4 is one of very few android devices that has a laser auto focus and unique to the G4 the colour sensor. Where is the AOSP code to handle that. If it isn't in the AOSP rom then you will lose the functionality of fast auto focus as well as better white balance detection.
The G4 will be more premium than the nexus without a doubt but going pure has a price. If you get a carrier locked G4, you will have to wait for BL unlock and only then can AOSP roms be developed. Not happened yet but i expect BL unlock will happen in a month going by the G3.
Bottomline: if you want the G4 and its camera then you will have to settle for stock based roms.
Check out AOSP on the G3 to better understand what the tradeoffs are likely to be with the G4.

I had I for more than a year for more than a year of very intensive use (loading up to 270 app version s). I would definitely buy again.
I just had problems after it dropped violently on the ground but I insist build quality is good.
After full reinstall I changed it to ww from cn and with little bugs (camera lost) it works really well.
Where did you read that (links please) and what was the reasoning behind it? As of now, I can't think of any reason why this (or any other) phone would become useless in the coming months. Even if it was an Android 4.4 based phone. I'm not talking about getting updates, but phones don't just stop working (unless they break down).
In my opinion, not anymore. I'm actually a ZE551 user for 3 months now and am satisfied by it, but the specs in this phone is not a viable option anymore. The intel processor can even hold you back sometimes despite its "native support" for ARM apps. (take a look at the Pokemon GO craze earlier)
And if you are 3D gaming it can also be a setback due to the GPU included in this phone. The PowerVR GPU is a 2012 technology, and this means that with the future games this may not even suffice later on. Even some games recently released cant even play smoothly on this phone now (Titan Quest was said to be slow on this phone, though I havent seen it myself)
But the 4G support aint bad at all, and the 3-way call feature may attract you (something I never used). Most of the other things from various reviews still ring true (bloatware, zenui, camera, etc) but the thing is, on the same price point you may find a better option than the Zenfone 2 in this day and age.
If you can get it at a low price (around 150 usd) it is still worth buying.
If you need it just for the basic stuff (phone, messaging, browsing, navigation, music, videos etc.) it still is a great phone and with it's chipset and 4gb of ram it will sure run flawlessly for at least a year or two.
In my opinion, this phone is great as a business phone / second phone. It just works and nothing more. I got bored with it
If you could get it with a slightly lower price, it's still worth buying. Quality is great overall.

going for a 4 gb ram model, u have to pay a bomb to get those high end phones which have charger lock and other things ... i dont regret buying this masterpiece, im coming from a background of Sony and Samsung phones to top it all .... i still feel this is the best of the phones i have considering the battery and the ram and also i am using a 128gb sdxc card which is going on for a year almost... I have this phone since August 2016 and it never disappointed me. The processor is pretty good, you can run almost anything without any problems, the 4GB still is and will always be useful, the storage is big (i have the 32GB version, which is a lot for me and i never filled it). Sure, it hasn't been updated to 6.0 but I bought it with the thought that it might never get upgraded anyway..and even so 5.0 is still good and never had problems on it so far. I still recommend it even 1 year after I made the purchase. The price of the phone also went down (it's like 30% cheaper compared to when I bought it).
Definitely worth buying if you can find it around $150. The problem is that there are some excellent phones with bigger batteries and faster processors like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro for just under $200 that blow this one away. Having said that I still have mine (15 months now) and it's on Marshmallow Beta. I have no plans on replacing it in the foreseeable future though my primary phone is now the Xiaomi.

I'm thinking of getting a 9 pro and was wondering, would you buy it again if you had your current experience to help make your decision? I've found a few around $650, used. I'm not worried about insane camera quality. A good screen, solid performance, fast charging and being able to root and ROM it are what is drawing me in. I loved the 7 Pro I had but I've seen some say they don't think anything later has lived up to that and the quality has degraded. It nearly pushed me back to a 7 pro but I take it with a grain of salt, figured I'd ask here and see from some current users.
As for ROM's, /e/ apparently works. And Lineage. Does the color OS merge cause any new privacy concerns? I don't know a lot of how it has progressed, to be honest. I'm planning to ROM and de-google as much as I can.
Anyone who's used a PIxel 5a, might it be a better solution, cheaper?

Maybe,. It still has been solid, like screen is beautiful, w/ refresh rate. It has the thirty minute 0-100 charge and forty minute wireless charge. It sounds good and looks good so maybe so.
One thing is the fast charging is 65 watts; which I liked the 35 watt on the 8 pro.
One of the drawbacks was the US unlocked version came with one sim slot, instead of two, like it should of been.
Also when the few updates were good , unlocked version usually only received the incremental version on Google server; but the last one, I just flashed in TWRP (which has been a beauty).
So all in all still a solid device with the microg and Gapps option.
If the Samsung can be unlocked, etc, and looking like it will be supported then maybe that might be the way. I've been looking at them the last few years and I really like that foldable phone that opens to a tablet.
The last one I personally owned was the S3 and that was the days. I remember it coming out and being like, "WOW". That was the CyanogenMod era for me on that S3.
Anyway I hope it works out in what you decide. One thing I think by the way is "how easy is it to recover, and which method? How easy to brick, etc?

Yes. I would buy 9 Pro.
One of the best screen on the market. Hardware, same. Charging on Oneplus is awesome. When i buy my phone battery was 0. I charged with my phone Off in 27 minutes, 0-100 %. Than i buy wireless 50w, crazy fast too. I put my phone on the stand . Then i must have my eyes on the watch. It goes to 100% in no time, if i let it.
About ColorOS... Many people forget that Oppo Fiind 7 came out at the same time with OnePlus One (almost same phone). Oppo works on is own processor. Oppo made a foldable already.
Color OS works fine (on my European model phone). I'm glad that we don't have that Stupid cartoon that i see on Pixel 6 phones. Looks llike is made by a 3 years old kid.
Oxygen OS was Awesome, but unfortunately google f*cked up this great OS.
Camera on Oneplus 9 pro is good. I like xPan mode, especially.

exactly how I feel too.
Yes I would, I'd make sure I know the origin of the phone, I.e. Eu, USA TMobile, India, China. I would then find out which rom it has flashed. Then use these to compare which country you're using it in, to make sure there's no surprise. Also I'd stick with a11 or a12 on a rom you like. My spec's are in the screenshot and I'm in the UK.
I would buy the 9 Pro again, but I'm going to try the 10 Pro when Global model available!

650 usd for a op 9 pro? I'll take it. IMO no phones are better in this price range. It's not the best phone but it is expected that it will perform the same if not better with those $1000+ flagship phones.

7 pro was great ! Mine was blue. NO front camera in display ! Back then Oxygen OS was awesome. And everything was easy : root-unroot-twrp-MSM.
But the screen is Too Curved. And soon you will get no updates.

I've owned my 9 Pro for about 4 months now. I have very mixed feelings about it.
For me, the pluses:
Unlockable bootloader with good third-party ROM support.
Nice screen, decent camera.
Wireless charging
The minuses:
Buggy factory ROM's. The switchover to Android 12 and a ColorOS-based build was a disaster. ColorOS is just not in the same league as OxygenOS as far as polish or capabilities. It lost most of the nice touches that made OxygenOS good. And the new team is doing a mediocre job of staying on top of security patches. It is now the end of February, and my phone is still at January 1, 2022 security patch level.
No SD-card slot.
I think I'd still pick the OnePlus over a Google phone. Google has had extensive hardware issues, and their customer service is supremely awful.
And I'd pick it over Samsung. Samsung is actively hostile toward unlocked bootloaders and custom ROM's. They also have a lengthy history of battery problems - the Galaxy Note 8 was not an aberration, merely the most severe.
Motorola/Lenovo makes decent hardware, but are completely falling down on updates. My wife's One Action is only 15 months old, and is still running Android 10 at a Nov 1, 2021 patch level. Supposedly the premise of the whole "Android One" program was that it would make it easier for the OEM's to issue timely updates and upgrades. Doesn't seem to be working.
To sum it up: The OnePlus is not great, but in the US market, it's still slightly better than the alternatives.
I bought a 256gb/12gb in mint condition for $550 USD that should be here tomorrow. I almost gave up on the idea but then saw the price and figured I'd give it a shot.
I looked forward to trying it out! Now to decide which ROM. LOS, Derp, Nameless or Stag. It's a fun problem I've missed having.

Yes. definitely. I just sold 8T model and bought 9 Pro for a good price. I will stick with Android 11 as long as I can, because IMHO A12 is childish and awful looking (especially these big fonts).

yes, i bought the same way, for similar price, it's worth it. you save money and there are no performance differences or use signs.
just make sure the seller is reputable and you will be fine, for me warranties failed me more than resellers. pro phones usually cost too much and aren't worth the cash unless you find sucha discount from resellers, which phones are rarely used and justa s good as factory. i always choose a physical seller so if there was an issue, have them located, AliExpress is not trustworthy.
about the phone, its very good. the main problem is the default ROM which isnt good at all. on the ohter hand, its easier to flash a custom ROM on OnePlus than almost any brand out there, and this will fix all your bugs, double battery time, half internet data consumption, refresh rate and overall performance. totally recommended
EDIT: i see you bought it for just 550$, which is even better. at that price is definitely even more worth it.
