Hi,
I've applied Sven Killig's patches to a 2.6.32 kernel similiar to DeFroST 0.9b with no-echo patches.
Kernel update attached. I didn't do anything, please thank Sven Killig for his awesome work.
r2: Some often used USB modules included. (USB storage built-in)
r3: Modules are loading now
r4: Fix for error -14 included
THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL WORK
GUIDE, IF YOU WANNA TRY IT OUT:
1. Flash kernel
2. Go into Terminal emulator and write the following:
insmod /system/lib/modules/usbcore.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/ehci-hcd.ko
3. Load any other modules you want, ie. usb-storage.ko
To "un host", just flash the kernel from DeFRoST 0.9b

Great Job !
Which devices can we connect at the moment ?
It would be one hell of a feature being able to plug in a CompactFlash Reader, or even a reflex camera
Thanks m8 I recieved the OTG cable yesterday so I will try to test this tonight
Don't forget that you need external power, from a powered hub for example.
Also, the phone will not work in usb-slave mode with these patches.
Good luck and post back results
hm do you have create kernel modules or are the patches integrated in the kernel image itself?
with modules we simply are able to write a script or an app for switching from host mode to slave and back aren't we?

I forgot to include support for some basic USB functions; storage and so on. Thanks for reminding me. I will compile them as modules to begin with
nice
Hi
I ordered my cable as soon as I saw Sven's vid last week and it arrived, just on time this morning.
I would however appreciate a brief how to..
I can understand up to the patching bit... I have the dual power USB cable and I am going to grab a self powered hub tomorrow. What I am not sure about is how to mount stuff onto android.
Is it like the usual linux mount commants? Will something like estrong file mananger pick up the new partition and show it (for USB stick).
Anyone tried a mouse? Keyboard?
cheers

Phones need external power also to connect, for example, an external 3.5 drive ? (with ac adapter)
Thank0s
any chance of un host patch

You can use ConsoleBot, if it comes to it. But i am very sure i included usbcore as a part of the kernel, instead of as a module. And also, the modules are installed in /system/lib/modules, not "drivers/usb*etc" ..
I hope it works Good luck
is there any posibility of mode switching?
would simply reflashing the non host kernel remove host moda and put back to slave mode?
if it can its not too inconveniant but requires a reboot every time you want to change mode...
using rom manager u can quickly apply the update.zip's tho
Oki here is what I am doing
I had the desire with DeFrost 0.9b, then when to fake-flash recovery and aplayed your kernel.
I have the OTG cable connected to a self powered usb hub and tried connecting bought a mouse and a pen but non of them were detected in dmesg.
The good and/or strange part is that I haven't lost the adb or usb mass storage mode of the phone.
Same problem here... got the cable today.
Nothing happens in dmesg...

I'll look into it, hold on. I may have configured the kernel wrong.
EDIT: At the moment it will require a reflash of the kernel everytime you need hostmode. Updating kernel in a moment I'm looking into writing OTG support for the device, so switching between slave/host mode is automatic or easy at least.
hey i read the guide but i didn't figure out how to install the kernel....can anyone please post a guide or some instructions please????

I thought I was doing great after uninstalling bloatware. However, when I tried to connect my Note 2 to my PC via USB I received the error that MTP USB Device driver could not be loaded. Apparently I must have uninstalled something on my Note 2 that is not allowing me to connect to the PC via USB. I have been searching for days, read many postings with the same problem, downloading various Driver apps to no avail. I even downloaded and installed Samsung Drivers which also did not work. I still can use my USB plug from NOTE 2 to my Flash Drive to get stuff transfered to/from Note2/PC.
It never ends. Fix one thing and then another pops up. LOL
What else can I say except - H-E-L-P.
What de-bloater tool did you use ?
Does it show the apps it uninstalled ?
By default any de-bloater should only delete apps from /system/app and
/data/app.
Have you considered starting over by flashing root injected stock Rom?

I did not use any de-bloater. I used Titanium Backup Pro (TBP) and have a complete list of all apks uninstalled.
In TBP under Backup/Restore all apks uninstalled are listed. Plus, I kept a list of all that I deleted.
No, I have not considered starting over by flashing root injected stock ROM. Thought about it, however, if I
do flash, I'm back to square one.
If I don't resolve this one problem, I will remain at this point until new OS comes out. I do have a work around for time being.
I do appreciate your help, time and concern. Thank you.
What really amazes me is that this problem is all over the Internet and I can't find a simple solution. I have Googled it,
been on here doing searches, reading postings, etc. I have even tried Driver Booster.

Can you check your phone setting by dialing *#7284#?

Tried this and again no success.
Method 3 – Ensure you have the right settings By default my phone was already set to the right settings for USB file transfers so I’ll assume most of these ship with the same configuration, hence why I have this as method 3. I found this on a forum and while it did not work for me, it seems a few other folks declared it a success.
1. Launch the phone key pad on your note and press *#7284# (don’t forget to start with that * symbol!) When you press the last pound sign (#) this will bring up an option that will allow you to change your USB connection settings (modem or PDA) – change it to PDA.
I did not get any option that allowed me to change the USB Connection settings when I entered *#7284#. So I dialed that number and got an error Unable to process request.
Tried new USB cable and it still tried to load/install device drivers but not successful. Same error MTP USB Device Failed.
Thanks again for trying to help. I do appreciate your help and time. Still looking for a resolution.

I am trying to find out if you have all the files and compare with my files to find out why I can access phone utility and you can't. Your issue may be the driver or files idk. Tbh, I am not an expert. Just another android enthusiast trying to help. I have Tweaked Rom so mine may be different. I have found 2 system files in TBU, Service Mode and MTP Application. Do you have them also? Does service mode work for you when you dial, for example, *#0011#?

For some reason I can''t use Android File Transfer with my HTC One M8 - It just doesn't appear. The phone goes into MTC mode and says USB Connected, but ATP gives me the "No android device found" error?
Anyone else had the same error or have any other mac workarounds?
I can't stand HTC Sync Manager ...
I ran into the same problem yesterday.
All I could find on the internet was a post advising to reboot with the phone plugging in. That seemed to work but it was only a temporary fix. And a review mentioning the problem , that HTC had acknowledged it and that a fix was expected in late April.

FYI to everyone.. This is a Sense Only problem. MTP works fine on GPE ROMs. As a workaround, if you want to keep Sense, use AirDroid or something similar to transfer files to your phone via WiFi.
This was already asked in Q/A subforum -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714671
Here's my response :-
You will need ROOT and app called "DriveDroid"
Download Android File Manager - http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Open DriveDroid app, give it root access and under its settings, change USB or Permanent USB mode to "Mass Storage Android Debugging"
Connect to OSX and open the Android File Manager app on OSX... next time you wont need to open it manually, it will open everytime you connect the phone.
This might break connection to HTC Sync though
(I use the above for my iMac)

I think it's not a solution, wifi transfer is really slow with big files. Plus, I own a nexus 7 and MTP is not that great either.

I did see that, but I don't want to root it just yet.
I thought there must be a simple native solution, but it doesn't look like there is until HTC do a fix!

Make sure HTC Sync Manager is not installed at all if you want Android File Transfer to work. This has been an issue in the past, although it doesn't sound like the issue here though. I personally don't have a problem using HTC Sync Manager to transfer my files, but if course I can see why people wouldn't want to use it.
I think the reason MTP is such crap on Macs is that Microsoft owns the license for the MTP protocol, and they let everyone use it except Apple, thus making Windows a more appealing OS. Just a theory though...

In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54035979 I may provide a partial solution; depending on your exact need. Look for the post I sent a few minutes ago. More to come in the next days; I will test other apps, and report.

If you check the forums loads of people have mentioned the settings apk does not work on the AFTV2, also I think you may need a Usb keyboard I am using the Logitech k900 plus but at first it wouldn't work, after unchecking Usb debugging the keyboard & Usb socket starting working again. Don't think you can use the bluetooth keyboard with it? Have you tried going into settings & the section with controllers keyboards & devices & tried pairing it in there? Are you using the bluetooth dongle as well? I have a compatible apps & accessories section for the AFTV2 in this forum but don't think I have any bluetooth devices listed as working?
Check here for compatible apps & accessories - http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/aftv2-best-compatible-apps-accessories-t3269267

There's a app in playstore called Gamebench to find how much fps a game is giving in device.
And the app works only either by:
1. Root.
OR by
2. Connecting the device to pc and set it up to do with without root.
I don't want to root my device so I'm thinking of setting up the app by doing the 2nd method.
So by doing so (2nd method i.e, connecting to pc), my warranty will be void?
And Also, the app will work only when connected with pc or just set it up with pc once?
Thanks in advance!

Don't know. I have sideload the android 7.1.1. Do I have warranty anymore? I don't know, but I think I have, because I don't have unlock the bootloader. And the update will be checked by updatingprocess if it fits to the device, so there are all right. But, what do you think in your benchmark case? Why do you want a benchmark with root needed?
Hi there!
I'm one of the engineers behind GameBench, and I can safely say that using our second option (PC connection) will NOT void your warranty All we do is use some elevated permissions to start our service, we don't modify any system files or anything.
Please let me know if you have any other questions,

Hey Yash!
Once you've run the Launcher on your PC you can disconnect! If you want to test iOS devices, or see all the metrics in realtime, you can download the Desktop App from our web dashboard (pro.gambench.net). You'll need to keep your device connected to use the Desktop App for now (we've got a Wireless mode coming soon).
Cheers,
J
