Official bootloader unlock not possible after repair - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My G4 was completly blocked and send it back for repair. It was repaired under warranty
On the repair note was stated that there are several components changed.
The had an unlocked bootloader. But when i doe the procedure with the old unlock.bin i get an error messega that the code is invalid.
So i think that they have replaced the inside hardware. So next thing i did is to get a new unlock code on LG Developer website.
BUT....... The device ID is not correct.... i think thats a plausible thing because the IMEI doesnt correspond with the device hardware. When it left the Factory.
Has somebody dealt with this issue and is it reversable?

[Q] How to relock bootloader to 'locked' not 'relocked'

Hi guys, i have a question, i want to return my phone for warranty and i've read this thread that if your bootloader is showing 'relocked' you cannot return the device for warranty.
I am here to ask if there is a way to make the bootloader show 'locked' bootloader instead of 'relocked'?
it would be GREATLY appreciated if you could help me. thanks!
for those who want to relock their bootloader can follow the instructions here
There is no way to do that ATM.
If the problem is the hardware issue, HTC should honor the warranty.

actually i'm looking to sell the phone, the phone have no issues whatsoever, but if the person i sell to wants to claim warranty, it may be an issue.
Not possible. When you got your unlock bin from HTC, it logged the device info. There gonna know right away it was tampered with.

so that means there is no option to claim warranty unless i pay for the 'fines' or charges that incur to repair my device?

Correct. From what I've read, unlocking voids the warranty instantly (even tho htcdev says it "could" void your warranty) So any repairs are gonna cost you.

OK.. while trying to re-flash my phone after messing up, I tried to re-lock (fastboot oem lock) and it put up 3 messages, 1 succeed, 2 failed, on reboot of phone it read locked.
Yes!! Locked not re-locked ! I forgot I had not flashed stock recovery ! So triued to unlock, it worked but I could not flash stock recovery, failed, but I could re-lock with same LOCKED message, if I then went from HBoot to Fastboot I got a new menu SECURITY .. bellow locked a message SECURITY WARNING, if I select SECURITY menu then I get a new screen , KEYCARD failed, and reboots.
Anyway the LOCKED was enough to get the phone swapped as its two weeks old, any way after charging and attempting RUU again it locked on black HTC screen most times it booted.
Still maybe this menu holds a key to S-OFF, and maybe the relock failing can be replicated, it seems to have sent only 1 of 3 parts if the file across, so if you phone is bricked maybe you can give it a shot for htc service cover by part re-locking in some way.

and was hoping we could make some headway on it.
I noticed you are on Vodafone Australia.
I spoke to multiple stores and service reps and each of them said the same thing, that merely unlocking the bootloader will not void your warranty with them assuming a hardware fault. They even allowing discussion of bootloader unlocking in their community forum.
They did say however that flashing custom roms and rooting will void your warranty as per usual and any damage caused as a result of overclocking or messing with voltages etc is not covered.
I don't know if that is any help, but they seem pretty good about it so long as you didnt cause any actual damage yourself

Help with getting HTC ONE X back to stock for RMA (hboot relocked issue)

Hello all.
I have an international version of HTC ONE X with less than a year which is plenty of faulty issues:
1. Wifi signal is extremely low and inestable
2. Screen goes crazy from time to time without pressing or doing anything
3. Three inferior buttons do not respond at all
So the phone is now pretty much useless (I have to power off and on each time I enter an app). The two first issues appeared at the very first month of the purchase, although I could live with them, more or less. The third disfunction has left the phone completely useless, and I had to buy a substitution one as I need it for my job.
I tried to swap the original rom with some CM and MIUI ones, trying to at least solve the 3rd issue so I had to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev (big mistake). I tried everything on my hand (except for opening physically the phone), until I took the path of the warranty service to get it repaired by HTC, as it presents the above-mentioned hardware-based issues.
So I relocked the bootloader, flashed back the stock RUU it came with, and updated it to the latest official one (4.2.2 if I remember correctly)
Now they have returned it (at no cost) and claimed that the warranty is void as on XX-YY-ZZZZ the bootloader was unlocked (they must have seen the ***UNLOCKED*** string on the bootloader and they got the exact date from the log I guess).
So, is there any way to get it back to ***LOCKED*** and "erase the logs" so they cannot tell if the bootloader has been unlocked?
I know it is only my fault, I should not have tried to fix it by myself and sent it directly to RMA, but I feel impotent that I cannot prove that all the faults are hardware-based, and the phone is pretty much useless long before unlocking the bootloader, which I did in good faith to try to repair it by myself without bothering the RMA service. Now they rely on this software-based feature to void the warranty and charge me for a, I guess, extremely expensive reparation (as both the motherboard and screen may need to be replaced to solve all the faulty issues the phone had from the very first month).
Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for the wall of text.
No not possible to get it back to LOCKED. The only thing you can do is RELOCK it.
Thanks for your quick response, Mr Hofs.
I have it ***RELOCKED*** and they have retrieved through some log that the bootloader has been unlocked (and the exact date).
So now, from lost to the river. As the reparation may cost several hundreds of euros (as they would have to change both motherboard and display to solve all the issues) and nobody can assure that the phone will be repaired correctly with all the flaws it has at the moment (besides, I have already had lots of bad experiences with the HTC RMA)....
Is there any way to extract, hex edit, and reflash via fastboot some critical file so it bricks completely the phone and no boot would be possible? That way they could not see the relocked string in the bootloader, or get any info from it. So I would send them a "dead" phone in the first year of warranty period (here we have legally up to 2 years from the purchase).
I know this may be "unethical", but, from my point of view, no more than their denial of repair a faulty phone since the first month within the warranty period due to a software-based temporary modification (which I repeat, I did in good faith to try to repair it via software -installing official CM and MIUI roms- before sending it to RMA). But, as I cannot prove that the phone was useless before unlocking the bootloader, and HTC takes refuge in the "Unlocking the bootloader COULD void the warranty" from HTCDev, this is the only thing I can do... Obviously, I am open to any suggestion in case anyone would like to use my HOX as a "guinea pig" for any experiment that could serve the community.

Thanks a lot Thant!
Then, time to throw the HOX to the bin I have made some numbers, and the mb (100-120$), plus the display (180$-200$), plus the wifi module (20$-30$?) is more than what a brand new Xiaomi Mi3 64gb would cost, free, debranded and without voiding the warranty for installing a ROM.

[Q] oem unlock fail for sony xperia arc s

Dear all :
Recently I bought an Arc S and want to unlock its bootloader, however it comes up with unlock fail. Really frustrated for that... Please give a helping hand
1. I 've tried the unlocking on three different machines Win 8 x64 Win7 x64 Win XP SP3 x86,
all showed Version 0.3 finished and oem unlock fail
2. I 've checked the IMEI code when the Arc S is on GB and ICS, both showed the same 15 digits IMEI.
3. I used the first 14 digits of my IMEI to apply the unlock Key by different explorer (IE,Firefox,Chrome), all showed the same unlock key
4. Track ID is functioning properly so I think the machine is not unlocked before
5. Bootloader Unlocked Allowed : Yes
6. Done all the methods stated in

Bootloader & SIM Unlocking:
PLEASE NOTE: The ONLY WAY to Sim Unlock your Phone is to PAY for it, so do some Googling and read which services have been recommended in the past.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE:
If you're Phone was manufactured AFTER a certain date, 12W11 (look under your battery for a similar number) then the Testpoint method no longer works, and People who have had Phones returned from a Service Centre are reporting that they can no longer unlock via the Testpoint method either.
- Know Your Android Bootloader - What it is and Why it Matters
There are three ways to Unlock yours, the Standard/Official method (For SimFree/Un-Branded Phones) which is explained HERE, (PLEASE NOTE! - You loose DRM when using the official method but not with the TestPoint) but if your Phone came from a Carrier then chances are (99%) you won't be able to use that method. There is a simple method of checking if you can or not which you'll find HERE.
Standard Unlocking:
Then there is the TestPoint method...
TestPoint Unlocking:
Two members - Alejandrissimo or Jinx13 offer a Remote Service which isn't free, but cheaper than anywhere else on the net, and when you take in to account you will also SIM Unlock and retain DRM using the Remote method it's worth it.

Mine states 12W48, but I don 't think it is branded or simlocked since I bought it from a local retailer in Hong Kong.
So even though it says Bootloader Unlocker allowed : Yes still might have chance that It is simlocked?
You should be able to unlock by the official method, which you wrote about.
You said it showed "oem unlock fail". What's the full error given in the log?
Guess I found the answer.
I think this is a refurbished Arc S and the IMEI code is a fake one.... "awesome" china goods....
Any method to unlock the phone given that YOU DON 'T KNOW your true imei?
Under the battery or in Dialer *#06#.
You don't get my meaning....
What I mean fake code is that
1. The IMEI stored in the phone
2. The IMEI stated in the sticker and box
are ALL FAKE.
I found that there are a lot of similar cases in some other Chinese Androids. They figured out the reason behind that is the IMEI code is modified by retailers (Well I don 't know how can they do it, but it seems very easy to them) and the IMEI you extracted by all means from the machine is no longer the original one...

Yes,
you can use test-point method to unlock which requires no IMEI number.
Oh boy..... What is going on....
Wait a second. This makes no sense. Firmware reports one IMEI, but phone is actually using a different one? How do you even use it then?
That 's why those chinese refurbished "brand new phone" are so awesome...
They claim that the phone is brand new and the evidence is that the IMEI stated in the phone , the box , the sticker are the same. However you use that that IMEI to unlock the phone and eventually fail. The only reason is that this is a refurbished one and those IMEI are fake.... There are numerous cases in the Chinese Android Forums.... You even can not unlock it by brute force (test point method)....
In that case we are not talking about Xperia Arc, but a chinese copy of this phone. Thereby this method does not work for you.
Sent from my LT18i
No. The machine itself is ORIGINAL, you can do a official update and apply the original ftf. The retailers received those second-hand goods and then INSERT A NEW IMEI and forge those stickers for the box and the machine so that the retailers can claim that it is brand new. I searched in the forum and found that some retailers will insert the same IMEI in to a batch of refurbished phone =.=
There are numerous methods for unlocking the phone but all resort to the IMEI, what if you have a fake IMEI =.=

If we lock the bootloader will the service center know we are rooted?

I have unlocked my z play's bootloader for downgrading to MM. Will this nullify my warranty? Is there anyway for the service center people to know I unlocked the bootloader?
You void the warranty with requesting the code. It does not matter if you use the code. Your device is in the database. If your dealer sends it to Lenovo for warranty repair, they open the battery cover, read the IMEI or other device data, recognize you requested the code, write a letter "warranty void" and send it back. That's my experience. At least that's what happened to my Moto X Play with hardware problems which are not software related (flaky contact on USB and SD card).
Yes, the bootloader will show as re-locked (there are three states: locked, relocked and unlocked). It will show in the bootloader menu. (status:2 or something like that)
Yes they will know as soon as they check your IMEI on their database.
With other companies that's not case, but with Motorola they void the warranty the moment you request the unlock code from the website.
My Moto Z died 3 months ago, and i have no where to go. When i went to the service center they told me that i rooted the device and i wont get the warranty without even looking at my phone. they just checked the IMEI on their database.
BTW.... Who has successfully locked bootloader on MZP ..?
Anyone !!!:laugh::laugh:
It's not possible to relock bootloader ...As there is no signed firmware available ......
Yes they will know... I just put in for a warranty exchange last month after having issues with it. Yes it was unlocked and had a custom rom on it when I returned it. They had a New Play in my hands within 2 days. They knew the phone was unlocked, I documented it on my warranty claim and they still approved and sent out a replacement. Thank you Moto.

Unlock bootloader with unlock code

Hi everyone,
today I sent my p20 lite to amazon for a problem with the screen (it would seem a line at the bottom of the screen with burnt pixels). My question is: since I was about to unlock the bootloader with the code provided by the site when it was still possible to request it, I can still use it even if the device is different or connected to the IMEI and then to unlock it I have to go through other methods ?
As far as I know, bootloader code is tied to the first imei on p20, if device/imei is changed, so bootloader code. Additionaly, if you get new device with newest system updates you can't get bootloader unlock, or if so, it will cost ya around 50usd (unless DC unlocker (5usd) starts working again with newest os), but I don't know whether those more expensive methods even work, some people claim that they are, but all looks quite fishy imo.
Edit
okay, apparently, there's a way to unlock bootloader even with newest firmware - you need to downgrade os using this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-lite/how-to/root-how-to-install-update-t3841557 and then get code using DC unlocker
bootloader code works for your bootloader software (i once bricked my p9 phone so hard, i needet to reflash its software with testpoint method, after that, my bootloader code didnt work, used dc unlocker 4 euros, to see what code are, then i got different code for same phone with same imei etc.) so, if nothing drasticaly not changed with your mainboard softare, you need to be able to use unlock code you got.
