Help with updating to Marshmallow - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've looked around the forum a bit wondering how to update to Marshmallow, but it's just been giving me a huge headache. I don't want to play around with any more files and backups etc. until I know exactly what I'm doing. Could somebody please kindly explain to me how to do the update?
Here is my getvar:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.25.214500021.06G

(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: f063fb42
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
Thanks in advance for any help guys.

The easiest way is to flash the ROM version of MM. No other edits needed. If you want to convert fully to MM you can change the CID and MID to the dev edition. Then flash the firmware and the RUU.
Those are some options.

This is a good as stock flashable version of MM dev edition

There is no Marshmallow update for your device version yet.
So save the headache ..

Indeed ! The easiest way in the first place is to wait (if you are 100% stock) for the official update

Perhaps I should have listened... I changed the CID and MID to the developer edition and then flashed the marshmallow firmware, but now I'm stuck in RUU mode and can't seem to get out of it

These are the steps to RUU with Marshmallow on Developer Ed.
Check whether you skipped any steps
(of course after CID/MID is correctly changed to Developer Ed. is a must)
1. Download the 6.12.1540.4 firmware - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4jGj3SfskzMbzBtd1R1VHlmbVU/view?usp=sharing
2. Download the 6.12.1540.4 RUU if you still don't have it - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/news/
3. place the firmware.zip that you downloaded in your fastboot folder then open command prompt from your fastboot folder
4. Put your device to bootloader/fastboot mode
Run below commands:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
You'll see -
if failed : FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)
repeat fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
5. Run 6.14.1540.4 RUU
6. Done

[Q] Converting back to Sense

I converted to GPE and i tried converting back to sense using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523
and i followed it when i would boot it would send me straight to stock recovery I did a wipe and then I tried installing the lollipop dev edition firmware, I have supercid, and now it just shows the bootsplash then turns back and repeats every ten seconds. It was originally ATT and installed twrp and I can't boot into it it just flickers

I tried flashing the GPE 5.0 firmware so would I just install the RUU how it says or do I do something else.
edit i switched to 3.28 and it almost worked it said it failed updating parition
edit #2 It's stuck in RUU mode
I assume you flashed the ZIP file which is the 1.54.401.5 W Splash ZIP? After that, just flash this is RUU mode:

I have the EXACT same problem. I did also flash that firmware, but the firmware you've linked to, does it work with an Android 5.0 ROM?
Also, when I'm in Recovery (CWM Philz Touch 6) it came up with some errors on partitions in the background.

Why do you still have the Google MID? Change the MID to the WWE International(0P6B10000) flash the firmware with splash in that thread and then run the RUU for WWE.
Else if you want Developer edition, change MID to 0P6B12000(AT&T / Developer Edition) flash a firmware package for Developer Edition, flash the m8splash.zip (Attached in this thread) . Change CID to Developer Edition (BS_US001 / BS_US002) Run the RUU for Developer Edition. I think I saw that there is a RUU .zip file available in the stock backup's thread in general section(post 1).
*BS_US001 I believe is unlocked version, BS_US002 is Developer Edition.

I've seen some reckon that it's not necessary while also seeing some posting errors with MID check fail. Personally I changed the MID(First thing) before I even did anything else when converting back to Sense. SuperCID should be enough to flash any firmware on device(as I understand it) so perhaps MID isn't a problem.
If you want to change the MID though apparently you can still enter the adb commands through the recovery to change the MID so that shouldn't be a problem.
adb commands - inside running OS and recovery.
fastboot commands - fastboot mode (bootloader) and RUU mode.
Still though, try flashing the firmware with splash, or seperate firmware for Developer edition(Then the m8splash) <What I did, then run RUU.

any help would be appreciated.
Because your device is wrongly configured.
How can you have a device with EU MID but HKG CID then expect OTA to lollipop ?
How can you expect an OTA for Australia when your device not showing any Australia details ?
To have OTA you must have either of these CID/MID :
EU/EU
HKG/HKG
AUS/AUS
well that explains why, so how would i go about fixing this, all these numbers confuse the hell out of me.
You have to decide which region that you want your device to be ?
I don't think you originally have a AUS region. I believe it is a HKG device.
And I suggest to completely convert it to EU region which suit you more.
I'll tell you what to do after you made your decision.

ill go EU, i ordered phone online so its not from Australia. also i greatly appreciate any help you provide, possibly expect a donation from me
Your MID is ready for EU version.
What you need to do :
1. Copy all your important files from Internal Storage to PC as this procedure will wipe everything in the phone and you'll have a new out of the box phone with lollipop.
2. Download 4.16.401.10 RUU ZIP : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B17smFr95pleU2NqcVB3NWxoNnM/view
rename it ruu.zip
3. Download htc_fastboot.exe : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8L4pkbzdlR3eTlJSjdKVEdHX1U/view
4. Change your CID from HKG HTC__622 to SuperCID 11111111
boot your device to fastboot/bootloader and connect to PC where you'll see fastboot usb in red
run this command fastboot oem writecid 11111111
5. Put the downloaded htc_fastboot.exe at the same folder that you have your fastboot.exe; same goes the ruu.zip
6. Run this command
fastboot oem rebootRUU - this will put your device is RUU mode
htc_fastboot flash zip ruu.zip - this will erase everything in your device and replace it with the latest lollipop image
This process will take a few minutes, and the phone will reboot a few times but once done it'll say complete
7. Once completed, reboot run setup wizard ... done
8. Optional .. to flash a custom ROM, you need to install a custom recovery. I' using the latest TWRP 2.8.6.0
Note : there is no need to change your device from S-Off to S-On and there is no need to relock bootloader.
Credit to @EddyOS for the files from his thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
Good luck ... I'll check your progress later when I'm home (in 3 hours)
downloading now, will report back shortly.
so far so good, up to the optimizing apps part, anything else i need to do? like change CID or anything? or will i be able to still get OTA updates in the future with 11111111?
No need to do anything else, leave it 11111111. You'll get OTA when there is one.
Thanks man, you literally have no idea I've been trying to figure all this out, enjoy the donation, don't go spending it all at once

Please could someone which firmware file I need to flash in order to get lollipop, ultimate goal is to install custom CM12. When ever I try to install CM12 via twrp when selecting and trying to install the package I get an error saying that I cant install due to bootloader being 3.16.0.0000 and need to update to 3.18.0.0000 or 3.19.0.0000 and have been told that I require a firmware update to get this? Is this correct?
Thanks

Hi there
thanks for answering
could you tell me how to do it
Best regards
No need to change the CID to update to Marshmallow.
If the bootloader indicates LOCKED or RELOCKED, simply try to run the Dev Edition Marshmallow RUU posted near the bottom of the following: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/news/
If the bootloader is UNLOCKED, you will need to relock it before RUU, with the command: fastboot oem lock
Also, be aware that RUU will wipe the phone. So backup any personal data you want to keep on computer, cloud, etc.

One possible hitch, is that you may have to first find and flash the 6.12.1540.4 firmware zip before you can RUU. This isn't normally a requirement for running an RUU, but for some reason folks are encountering this on the MM RUU.
Let us know if you get an error message (and what number, or other error info) when running the RUU.

I gave step by step instructions. You'll have to be more specific what part you don't understand.
In other words, I don't understand what you don't understand.
You run the fastboot commands the same way you did fastboot getvar all (to get the data for your Post #1).

You ran fastboot command to get the info you posted in Post#1 above, didn't you?
You run the commands from the directory wherever fastboot.exe is located (that location depends on how you installed fastboot).
Find that folder in Windows, then Shift-Right Mouse button, click "Open command window here".

Since it looks like the OTA at least partially updated you to MM (based on the radio number), trying to run the LP RUU constitutes a downgrade; which is only possible if you have s-off.
What you want is the MM RUU for your CID. I'm not aware of an .exe version of the 6.12.401.4 RUU, but here is the zip version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
This has worked for several folks that had problems with the MM update.
thank`s

You can not use the generic fastboot to flash the RUU.zip (and that is what is causing the "not enough space" error), you need htc_fastboot and that is why the htc_fastboot is given in post I linked.
Did you download htc_fastboot.exe as indicated in the link, and follow the instructions?
ckpv5 said:
Make a folder say "RUU" on your desktop and put both RUU zip and htc_fastboot.exe in this RUU folder

Then run the command from that folder/directory. Shortcut in Windows to change to the right directory, with the desired folder open, mouse over it, Shift+right mouse button, then select from the menu "Open command window here".
Then typea in CMD window: htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip

reflash your device firmware which will install the stock adsp, or use the HK/BS switcher that available in development section and choose to install Boomsound ... or find any flashable adsp zip.
On non-sense rom like cm14.1, flash firmware or flash adsp only no need to change to Sense rom.
Bs/Hk switcher only when on Sense rom, won't work on cm14.1

You don't really need the whole stock ROM (if it is RUU), you only need firmware.zip which has adsp.img in it.

You need the verizon adsp, not sure if GSM one is same.
Later when I'm home .. I'll make one for you based on VZW firmware.
I'll be home in 3 or 4 hours.

Sorry I don't get you .. this is a BEFORE getvar ?
What's the current ? If there is a new one .. let me have a new one. I need to see the current one to know your device better.
I never see a M8w changed to M8x before.
If you only change CID&MID to Asia_WWE but not flashing any X.XX.707.X firmware .. your firmware still M8w only CID/MID is the problem which is really easy to fix.
Anyway, for now you want to fix the sound problem only, right ?
I get back to you tomorrow after you give me more info ... time to bed now .. good night.

You don't need the full firmware to fix the sound problem.
Your getvar has mixed details - version-main is Marshmallow but the baseband is lollipop. I will give you the Marshmallow adsp first then see whether that will fix your sound problem.
If you want to change back to stock MID 0P6B62000, here is the code
Code:
echo -ne '\x30\x00\x50\x00\x36\x00\x42\x00\x36\x00\x32\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=16384
For the CID - I suggest you change it to SuperCID 11111111
You can do these CID/MID changes later. Below adsp is flashable on any CID/MID (GSM)
Same how-to as the previous one for OP.
NOTE : If anyone else downloaded this 0P6BIMG.zip, you need to edit (use Notepad++) the mainver: 6.18.1400.1 to your current firmware no.
if not then your bootloader will show OS-6.18.1400.1

UPDATE:
I solved the problem reinstalling stock firmware (I had to re-lock bootloader, my device is S-ON) then re-unlock bootloader and re-install recovery image all via fastboot.
Once done this, I reinstalled my backup from recovery... and the problem was solved, audio is back..!!!
-
I have no audio in phone too. I don't know if it the same issue as is being fixed on this thread, but my phone is not working either. I can use sim data, texting, but cannot make or receive calls, and no audio works.
In case this can be fixed by your flash zip file, i would ask if it is possible for one to me made that would work with my phone.

Has the phone been modified with custom ROM, or ever s-off, change CID, flash another carrier's firmware, etc. (to the best of your knowledge)?
The main version 6.13.771.4 (which indicates the current firmware) doesn't correspond to O2, as far as I know. The "771" versions correspond to H3G carrier. Firmware numbers for O2 should have "206" such as 6.13.206.5. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see how the "771" firmware could have been installed unless it was modified with s-off, change CID, etc.
