So yesterday I set a pattern lockscreen to my S4 Mini running the last CM12.1 Nightly. At first it worked as it should but then I tried to access my phone only to see an empty screen (with the launcher wallpaper in the background) where the pattern lockscreen (the pattern dots) should be. I tried to draw the pattern I set estimating where the pattern dots would be but all I get is "wrong pattern". When I get it wrong five or ten times, CM asks me to try again in x seconds. I do not get any alternatives like giving my Google Account details etc. What this means is that I cannot get pass the empty lock screen to access my device.
I've tried wiping cache/dalvik via TWRP, rebooting, taking the battery out etc. but nothing works. I'd flash another nightly but CM has gone to CM13 and CM12.1 Nightlies do not seem to be available any more (the CM12.1 links here do not work).
Any ideas (preferably other then starting from scratch)?

Thanks for the suggestion. Before I noticed this I did find a workaround not requiring to start from scratch. I had a 3-week-old nandroid backup to which I went back and then extracted the missing app data (Whatsapp discussions etc.) with Titanium (I took a nandroid from the malfunctioning ROM before I restored to an older, functioning one). All is well now and I won't be trying the pattern lock screen any time soon.

hi all,
just updated to 10.1 from 10, had a 4x4 security pattern and i'm asked to enter a 3x3 pattern now. no option to enter my gmail account data and i somehow can't access my nandroids for whatever reason. i think it's because i updated the recovery as well just before i did the update, so probably the new clockwork won't see older nandroids!?
any suggestions please?
thanks and please help me out - all is working, just can't get over the secure pattern, damn!
cheers,

You are supposed to factory reset................
jup, that's what i did.
in case anybody comes into that situation: i did a wipe via fastboot, flashed gapps and good guy google restored all my apps. i'm gonna check out now wether my nandroids and titanium-backups are still alive somewhere...
My camera for my Galaxy Nexus has been broke for the last several weeks.
When opened, a black screen opens before shortly thereafter giving the message "gallery is unresponsive" and force closes.
I restored to AOKP build 3, updated the ROM to build 4 and flashed that (after corresponding factory reset, wipe data/cache/dalvik).
Now the camera opens, shows the "take picture" etc buttons but still has a black screen and force closes.
I assume while flashing different ROMs I had restored using Titanium backup a system setting/app that caused this problem.
I understand this question has been asked, but I have to find a solution to my problem (I have done battery pull etc.)
Any help will be appreciated.
I should mention that I have had a couple messages over the previous couple weeks where it says "SIM card invalid" and phone restarts.
I have not had this message is several days.
have you tried a different ROM?
use RootBox 4.2.2
ive been using it no problems and amazing battery life, not to mention the smoothness and pure awesomeness of the ROM

Yes. Originally this problem happened shortly after flashing codename. With this ROM, a black screen would show and then "gallery is unresponsive."
I reverted to AOKP and flashed updated version. Now camera app opens, shows the take picture etc. buttons on bottom but where the actual picture should be stays black and gallery goes unresponsive.
Have also tried deleting camera apk and re-flashing a downloading camera zip file. Same problem.

Cleared data and cache for the app. Same issue.
Very frustrating issue.
Fast boot flash back to stock. If camera is still acting up then its more than likely hardware issues
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
do you get any messages after boy saying something like: com.xxx.xxx has unexpectedly stopped. this has happened to me to. you have to format your sd card. try that
remember to backup all your important file from the sd card to your computer EXCEPT the DCIM (where a'll your pictures and stuff are. anything related to the gallery don't backup)
Why not try a complete wipe.
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase system
In that order
then fastboot back to stock as mentioned by namtombout.
If that doesn't work it is indeed a hardware issue.

I don't think I've got any of these messages..
I will attempt the complete wipe per instructions in this thread (simply working up to the time that I actually will go through with it). I'm thinking I must have restored some system settings/camera settings from titanium backup during one of my recent ROM changes.
My battery life has been awfully poor lately as well....wondering if the restore of some system setting screwed with that as well...
Hopefully the complete wipe will get things back in order.

after you complete the wipe, DO NOT use titanium backup to restore your apps (even user apps). try fresh ones from the play store and see if that helps. if not im afraid you will have to go back to stock and then root again, flash a new ROM again, and then download your apps from the play store.
this problem has happened to me with my old phone (Samsung Captivate) but the formatting of the SD card fixed that for a while, when it started again i did the steps above and the phone worked better than ever.

Hi guys,
Some info 'bout phone:
-unlocked bl
-rooted
-Stock
-franco kernel
-many xposed mods
-TWRP 3.20
Situation:
Today i got weird issue, after rebooting phone, i had to type password to unlock phone, when i typed it correctly i received a notification about incorrect password, when it was a good one. Unfortunately i couldnt unlock with Google account (it wasnt even posibility even after few "bad" passwords) So i was made to unlock phone manually.
I runned recovery, opened file manager and deleted one of files which was containing password, So now i can unlock my phone. But there is one problem i havent predicted - it will be still turned on in settings, i could just edit it.
Now I can unlock phone withouth password but with fingerprint. I was deleting from /data/system.
Files with lock left:
Locksettings.db
Locksettings.db-shm
Locksettings.db-wal
And one is missing which i deleted. I cannot choose a new password, cause it wants an actual password tho its been deleted, but after typing settings are closed (unfortunately settings are closed)
Thats all, only one way to repair this is getting clean missing file yes? Could anyone send me it? Or better all 4 with no security choosen?
Problem no. 2
Now i get oftenly "unfortunately xposed installer has been closed"
Maybe issue no. 1 was caused by xposed, when i had mod installed, which was unlocking phone automaticailly when password was typed correctly?
/i reflashed stock kernel, afterwards Franco and xposed, problem no 2 solved, no 1 still is
Bests
I have my Nexus 5 as my backup phone and use it once in a while just using wifi. It's running cyan and just yesterday, I had the same problem and couldn't get into the phone. It wouldn't accept the pin number that I used forever and never changed it. Needless to say, I did a factory wipe off dalvic cache and data and started the n5 from scratch. It was a backup phone and I lost everything that I had on it from 2 years of use.
My n5x sucks so bad too. I'm having so many problems with this phone and it looks like I have to factory reset this as well. My camera flash isn't timed right so I can't take pics in the dark, the battery drains in 4 hours no matter what I'm doing. Bluetooth suddenly stops while listening to music. Haptic feedback doesn't work consistently. There is so much lag that I can't even use apps sometimes. I'm so done with these Nexus devices.
Sent using my kinda ok Nexus 5X
The Device is a I9195.
It had the Stock Rom, I think Lollipop? not Sure, it was the newest aviable via OTA. It had some serious battery issues and sometimes the App not Responding prompt appeared for diffrent apps. They usually vanished after a few seconds. Today I flashed TWRP, took a backup of the full Rom and flashed the daily LineageOS build from the general section. It all worked fine until I realised that I forgot to copy the Contacts. Back to TWRP and made another backup of LineageOS. The I restored the Stock one. After it booted up, I entered my PIN and thats all. Blackscreen and random App not responding popping up all the time. Even after a wait of at least 30 mins nothing changed. So I just copied the contacts2.db file via TWRP and tried to restore my Lineage backup. After booting up, guess what, App not responding, after waiting like a minute, back to bootscreen for a loop. Back to TWRP, full wipe, reflash, After boot, the same. I tried it several times now and I don know what to do. My next thing to try would be flashing RR, but at this point I dont know if it will change anything at all.

Assuming you did a full wipe as you say then maybe it's a Gapps problem as apps not responding, what gapps source did you use? Was it arm, android 7.1 & micro or smaller? Did you install your old app data?
You could try going back to stock then reflash LOS again, maybe with gapps from a different source, and don't reinstall app data from your backup.
(BTW. When you have a "black screen" does it show the notification bar at the top & can you pull down the quick settings? Does the power off menu work? So in other words, different screen layers seem to work so you see the app not responding msg (though I didn't get app not responding msg). I had this when I first tried LOS14, can't remember if I fixed it ..... or was that LOS13? ....... Or do you mean your whole screen is black but just some msg pop up?)

BTW My Phone Explorer is a good way to sync your contacts, calendar, some files etc locally with your PC without going through Goggle, and also getting them onto a new rom

I tried it with arm 7.1.1 Aroma Package Gapps. The first time it worked fine. After the restore and the wipes etc. I tried it with and without Gapps, but it just showed the black screen and the messages pop up. No notifications. I was able to open up the power menu like normal, on LineOS and on Stock. They behaved the same. I'm now on RR and this seems to work fine. I'll report if something weird happens, its the phone of my father.
i have the phone updated to android pie and rooted with magisk the latest version and i have twrp recovery on it
but while installing one of the mods (youtube vanced) and after it rebooted the phone asked for my pattern (not on the lock screen but the encrypted startup feature which i didn't turn on but i have changed my pattern a few days ago but i use the fingerprint always on the phone)
i forgot the pattern for the phone and i tried on it and it says 9 more tries and my phone will be wiped
is there a way to find the pattern on my google account since it's linked to the phone and it automatically uploads it to the cloud ? or is there a way to bypass it ?
Note:i know it sound like i stole the phone but i have proof of ownership if anyone wants(the box and the google account linked to it are mine and is linked to this account)
thanks in advance
Do you have access on twrp? If entered first time pattern should be saved and you can access data.
Simply reboot in twrp, if no pattern is asked make a backup of data partition (that will be unencrypted) just in case you will need to wipe and search for a way to access twrp-saved pattern.
You could also try the google feature "find my device" and change pattern, but as phone its encrypted i dont really think it will work.

sadly the "find my phone" doesn't help
and in TWRP it asks for the key too and when i press cancel and try to go to data/system where the pass key is there is nothing (it must be encrypted as well)
and twrp says that my data is 0mb and can't even back it up because it's encrypted
Ok, but it doesnt say that data will be wiped, so you can try a lot of patterns.
Unfortunatelly theres no way to bypass because data is encrypted, you should try again and again and prepare yourself for a complete wipe.
