While watching a video on YouTube, MX player or even while listening to music, the sound from the phone speaker keeps getting cut off. I'd have to then scrub back for the sound to come again. Sometimes even that doesn't help.
Am I the only one experiencing the problem? I didn't see this issue when I searched for it. A restart seems to temporarily fix it but it keeps cropping up. Phone is stock with locked bootloader
I too have this issue it is even present on notifications and ringtones. This issue was also present on my previous 5X which I exchanged due to other hardware issues. I too find a restart is the only temporary fix, problem always returns could be two minutes or two days. I have no issues with headphones or Bluetooth audio. This is beginning to really bug me.
I've also experienced this on a couple of occasions I've not been able to narrow it down so that I can replicate it. I get a couple of seconds of sound and then the speaker cuts out while the audio/video file continues to play.
I also had a related issue with headphones where, after a few seconds, it cut out and switched to the external speaker. This was even using the Google Music app which should have paused if it thought the headphones had been disconnected. That happened repeated until a restart but has never occurred again.
There are definitely some bugs crawling around in the 5X's audio handling it would seem.
Same issue for me. I visited Carphone Warehouse on Thursday and was told that it was a known hardware fault on modals with a serial number beginning 509 (which I had), so they exchanged the phone.
However, after only 2 days my replacement (510 serial number) has exactly the same issue.
I reached out to LG last weekend (as I can't really find anything on line) but no one has bothered to get back to me, so I think I'll just ask for a refund.
I have just noticed this on mine tonight. Is there any update on a solution?
Are you having the same issues described in THIS thread?
I am using my phone since the beginning of November and have not seen this issue.
I am using Youtube, Amazon Prime, MX Player to watch videos/movies. I also listen to music using Google's Music app - no issues. Could there be any apps that work in the background will kick it and mess with the app that is currently playing video/music?
Switch off Google now always listening.
I have discovered that the issue is caused by Google now always listening. Just switch off always listening and no more issues with audio playback.
I have this issue right now, which is temporarily solved by restarting the phone. It's strange because it's only been doing it for a few days - presumably since the most recent Google update.

Quoted for emphasis. Issue appears to be with OK Google always listening.
Anyone experiencing choppy videos or videos that keep playing audio but freeze up? Happens on my pixel xl and is universal... YouTube, my video playback, Facebook video. Not app specific.
Did you have all apps updated in the store? If not do that. If that doesn't help try a factory reset. Nothing else can be done
Yeah... Will have to try the factory reset I suppose.

Mine does that too. Noticed it during YouTube playback.
I had the same thing happening today on youtube, video would freeze but audio kept playing, only problem is I am on a Note 4 until my Pixel XL gets here. Cant speak to the other issues, curious if a reset solved it for you.
Did a restart and seemed to work itself out... At least when playing my own videos back. If it creeps back I will try the full factory reset.
Not seeing this on my xl

Exactly what happens to me on my new Pixel XL
Yep happens to me on youtube app. Not tried it on my own videos yet though. Hopefully a fix will be released soon for this.
This was driving me crazy this morning. Watching YouTube on Pixel XL and video would freeze while audio kept going. Not happening on Netflix so far. Just YouTube. I emptied the cache and cleared data for YouTube app and force stopped it. Hasn't happened since. I wonder if it's a software problem with Android 7.1?
I've been experiencing this also while watching Netflix. The video will pause for 15-30 secs with the audio continuing. Eventually it synchs back up further up in the scene. Amazon video won't play at all. Do you think this is a case of the apps not yet jiving with Android 7.1? Or possibly some bad phones? Mine is a Pixel XL from Verizon. I'm still within my 14 day to return if a bad unit. Anyone have an idea what could be going on?
I get this with videos on Twitter and FaceBook. Havent seen it with YouTube and I rarely watch Netflix. It is very irritating but can normally be resolved with a restart.
Just contacted support about this. Literally anything video playback has a 3 second stutter and then the audio end up being out of sync. Happens with my recorded videos, snap chat, Instagram, YouTube etc.
Of course after restarting no issues. I wonder what's causing it.

Getting the same thing. Reboot needed to fix it.
No one knows what triggers it?

I also have the same issue, when I take a video then play it, it freezes between 3-9 seconds with the audio still going. At some point the video restarts, and when it gets back to where the video froze, starts again with the audio in sync. See video below.
Edit: a reboot only fixes the issue temporarily, it seems to come back within a couple hours.

So bad
It's absolutely horrendous! Came from a nexus 6p never had this issue. It's happening in, literally, every app with video, sometimes it won't even play audio or video on Facebook, it does it when I'm trying to play Snapchats where I'll hear the audio but the video freezes and then the video playa really fast all at once at the end to catch up with the audio. It does it on YouTube and Netflix and Hulu as well. It even does it when I'm recording video within Snapchat! I'm disappointed that the phone has been performing more poorly than my old nexus 6p. I hope they fix it asap. I do not want to ba e to do a factory reset. I just finally got done painstakingly setting up all my apps again on this
I only have this issue with YouTube... Usually locks up when I do full screen and after it rotates it feeezes but audio continues.
I occasionally will have YouTube freeze but audio continues. Seems to be only YouTube though and I don't think it's the phone because it was happening on my Note 7 as well.
Happened to me a handful of times where video stops playing but audio keeps going in YouTube. Am I the only one that doesn't realize the video stopped until like 30 seconds later? lol
All I have to do is rewind the video a small amount and then it keeps going and doesn't happen again for that video.
If I'm on the phone and I'm watching a video on YouTube for example, the audio for YouTube becomes unclear and choppy. I have always been able to watch YouTube videos while on the phone on my Nexus 5 with perfect audio. Is this a common problem for the Moto Z Play or is there an issue with just my phone?

Did you side load your N or was it an authorized ota?
If side load then you have same issue as @Terepin.
Else you shown why it is not wise to take N so soon.
Authorized ota, I actually got the phone recently and just did basic updates to it. It's still Android 6.0.1

My VZW is fine. Make sure your YT app is updated
It's not just YouTube, it's also videos on Instagram and Snapchat, but I'm having this problem while I'm taking on the phone and watching a video
Is anyone else experiencing videos on Facebook or instagram playing choppy??
It seems when I play certain videos the first frame of the video will flash repeatedly through the entire video.. It's like the video skips a frame and you see the very first frame in its place and then keeps playing normal until it happens again like up to 10 times per video
It's also pausing on its own
Yeah exactly the same on my s8...
same here as well
Also having the same issue
having same issue, i believe it's due to verizon throttling video quality. from what i read, videos now play at 480p, if you want to unlock full HD playback, it'll coat $10 extra per month on your plan...
Strange that it only happens with FB videos not YouTube or Netflix
Is there any end to Verizon's nickel and dime to death approach?
Same
Same here, on an S8+. Video will start, play for about 4 seconds, jump back, sometime pause, then continue playing, and repeating the same skip a few times throughout the video.
I don't think it's Verizon because I have Att and having the same issue with my note 8
I'm experiencing the same thing, it's only happening on Facebook and with my Galaxy S8. There's nothing posted from Facebook or anywhere else saying they've established a fix or working on one.
Note: I'm in England and on the Three network, my home Wi-Fi connection is virgin media.

It recently started happening on my gf's S6. I've tried Verizon support and they blame fb no surprise there..
Disable the video enhancer option in advance settings. That caused me multiple video streaming issues on my note 8.
It happens to me on Wifi too, so don't think it's Verizon, also had the issue when i was with T-Mobile N7 and S7. Also i tried disabling the video enhancer like failtorespond suggested. Still get random pauses on Facebook videos. I blame Facebook's buggy app
Just tried turning off video enhancer, didn't resolve issue... on note 8
I just installed the latest beta apk from apkmirror, so far no issues with video playback no pauses. If anyone else wants to test here is the link.
Code:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/facebook-2/facebook/facebook-149-0-0-15-70-release
This is happening to me too and it is only on Facebook. I have Note 8 on the Optus network.
I'm experiencing the same thing- Facebook video gets choppy, displaying the first frame of the video for a split second then resuming. Super annoying! Galaxy S8 here on T-Mobile, video throttling turned OFF for my account, wifi through Spectrum.
i find that I only have issues when the phone is in portrait mode when trying to watch facebook videos. Try turning the phone to landscape and see if your video plays okay. Guessing it's a Facebook app issue.
Yeah, I've been having the same issue with my Samsung S8+ since Facebook pushed a recent update, maybe a week and a half ago. It's got to be Facebook, YouTube is fine, Kodi is fine, and it's happening over both cellular and Wi-Fi networks.
Edit: I saw a solution of turning off Hey Google in another thread and that worked for the freezing issue
HOwever, I still can't playback recorded videos
and I discovered that after I try to playback a video, i can no longer record
Hey fam!
I just got this phone from eBay
It came with an unlocked bootloader running what appears to be a global rom, because it says it's an edge 30 and has play store and all that jazz
I'm having an issue where the sound/video will cut out or pause in apps though. It usually lasts about a second or so. Everything still works in the background, so it's not like the phone itself is freezing. For example, the slightly animated background in Apple Music keeps moving even when the sound cuts out.
Youtube videos have the sound and video hang constantly
Any tips on how to fix this, or should I just flash a chinese rom back to it?
Edit:
I just did a test with recorded content
I was able to record a video with no issues at all. Camera feed stayed stable the entire time. Trying to play it back, after about a second or two it hangs and errors out saying can't play video
Just in case anyone else is having issues
installing https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/convert-to-global-rom.4400275/post-86861259
fixed this for me. Phones works great now
Now I just need to figure out how to get/install updates since my bootloader is unlocked
