when the Xperia Ion first came out earlier this year.... i knew that this was the phone i wanted,..... it had all the features i wanted and more, like the NFC but for some reason we cant use it with Google Wallet,.... ok maybe theres a trick to get to to work with our phone.... (let me know if you do know)
how about using the Beam (NFC) to transfer content like pictures, videos, apps, contacts and whatever else to another NFC device just like the Samsung Galaxy S3 commercial.....
ok,... i have tried Beaming pictures with Xperia Ion and Galaxy S3 (AT&T version and Verizon version) with the phones back to back,.... front to front,.... side to side,... whatever position capable..... I've tried it with Xperia Ion being the host and vice versa..... and sometimes theres a notification sound, picture zooms out and a "Touch to Beam" pops up the screen.... so i touch the picture i want to Beam,... picture goes back to full screen but nothing seems to be transferring.... I've tried with the stock Gallery app and another one (quickpic)...
when trying with the Quickpic app,.....it Beamed the other device to the "Quickpic" Play Store (asking it to install the app).... i e-mailed the developer of the Quickpic app,... and he said "sorry, not tested, no device to test..." so ok,.... i kept trying with the stock Gallery app but no successful transfer....
is the Xperia Ion capable of using the Beam (NFC) technology just like the Galaxy S3?????
has anyone successfully transferred Pictures, Video or any files via Beam????
what am i doing wrong????
i haven't had a change to test this with anyone yet. but my buddy has an s3 i'll try it out and get back to you. however, my NFC tags work great and i haven't had a problem with them once.
I beamed to an S3 this past weekend. You have to remember that the regular "beam" feature uses NFC only, without invoking Bluetooth, which means things like pictures and videos are out of the question. Regular Beam features will work with contacts, links and things which can just be a line of text. I selected a contact, held my phone to my friends phone, the contact zoomed out and the screen said "tap to beam". You tap the contact and everyone is happy.
thanks for clarifying that,..... i hope in the future they find a way to utilize it like the Samsung S3 Beam on our device,....

Samsung has done something with their firmware that makes it so you can't beam a picture from/to a non-samsung phone. I've tested this with my friends GS3 and my Xperia devices. Stupid samsung.

Sorry for the late response but that worked fine. I can beam from all my of Xperia devices to each other without issues.
I beamed a few things to and from my son's HTC One X. I was able to do small files but not photos (may be a file size limit?).
It took about 10 minutes to get it to work though. We just about gave up when he turned his phone upside down and magically it worked. Not sure if it should need to work that way but that's the only way we were able to make it work.
So I guess the only problem I cant send or receive any pictures from any Samsung device... Dam! Most my friend use S3 and note 2... And why is Google wallet still not working for Xperia s??

Confirmed this also, Ion to SGS3. Apps transfer, no pictures, no files from file explorer, no music. Somethings would activate Bluetooth but on other device just play store opening saying not found. I did get one picture from SGS3 to ion.

Hi all,
I am getting my note 2 4G n7005 in 8 days.
I have googled this, but no one can give a definitive answer.
I have a galaxy s2, and I really like the video maker app on it.
Can anyone confirm if the note 2 has this app, if not, is it available from the Samsung app store for the note 2 (I know it's in the Samsung app store, but can anyone confirm if it can be installed on the n2).
If the answer is no to the above, is it possible to extract the apk from a s3 and put it in system apps on the note 2? Or will it just force close?.
I just really need someone to confirm this.
Thanks
Cheers
Corey

Short answer: it doesn't come with a video editor app installed (although you can trim videos).
This thread has an apk to a video editor (which might be the one on the s3).
I installed it and it should have everything you need. I did notice that it did ask for loads of permissions (some of which I would think aren't needed), but maybe this was just the way the apk was ripped.
Anyway, I installed it, checked it out (looks good) and then uninstalled it (I don't really need it and I was a little bit worried about the permissions).

There is a video editor app in the Samsung apps store which I have installed and it works fine.
However, it doesn't support mp4 files which the slo-mo camera produces

From the icon, that looks to be the same video editor as the one I linked to.
EDIT: Also, strangely, I am nearly sure that app wasn't there 2 days ago when I checked on the samsung apps on my phone! The version date is marked 16th November, so I wonder if they only recently added support for galaxy note 2.

Maybe - I had a similar thing with Plants vs Zombies. One day it wasn't in the Play store and the next it was. Must have forgotten to press a switch
Hello this morning i tried to use the android beam, that says if you put 2 pone together back with back you can transfer files etc. just like the sbeam on Samsung . but when I tried it send me to the play store with no succes. any 1 know how to make it work? does it needs any App?:fingers-crossed:
Try this
I haven't used the Beam Feature much but yes I have transferred photos via NFC to Xperia SP from my Xperia ZL
How:
1. I was in my Album app and viewing the photo
2. NFC was turned on for both the devices
3. As soon I touched both devices back to back
4. A sound alert was made along with the vibration indicating devices paired via nfc
5. Touch to Beam option was displayed on my screen along with the photo
6. I pressed on it and the transfer was done automatically and easily
Try the same while listening to a song via walkman app (It worked for me)
Press thanx if I helped you in any way

No I didn't use any program to transfer any file I was easily able to share music and images via NFC that too directly from Sony Album and Walkman application without the need of any other NFC application
Ok its good. i tried with an LG optimus G and my zl and its working fine. il have to try again with the S3 later.
Does this work for any file or it's only for particular types of files. I have a game called 1941 and the save game creates an XML file that can be copied to any device so I can continue my game on the other device. I navigate to the file using Root Explorer but what do I do then, right click on the file >> go to Send but I dont see a beam option.
I can transfer via Bluetooth but i'd like to make use of the this beam feature.
It works for any file, if u can open that file. so u might wanna try opening that xml and then try sending.
So I've recently tried upgrading from CM12 to a couple of different ROMS based on CM13 (Tamasek and Purity). With either rom I find that when I try to watch purchased Youtube videos I get an error of "This video is not playable on this device". I posted a message here as well as contacted google support and got some interesting feedback. In short Google stated that cyanogenmod stopped supporting DRM with CM13 and as such CM13 and CM14 will not play purchased videos from youtube or any other service.
My question is this. As being able to play back my purchased videos is somewhat a core feature that I need is there a Marshmallow rom out there that supports this type of playback, or am I SOL? From here on out when I want a new version of android I'll need to buy a new device?
