Does anyone know what kind of glass SONY uses on Z5 for both front and back? I don't see any official word from Sony website.
its some weird frosted glass on the back, its normal but they have done something to it tho. The front is scratch-resistant glass with oleophobic coating THATS WHAT IM SURE ABOUT. was i helpful?

I don't think so, weren't they using Dragontrail glass before? I read it In some article that it's dragontrail. Their glass is quite strong!

They had Dragontrail on Z3, but I don't see any information on Z5.
The glass on my Z3 feels like the same as on the z5p tho

hi i was wondering if you buy a galaxy note front glass only and apply some silicone glue to it can you use it as a screen protector here is a link http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-GT-...sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351699974&sr=8-1-spell
This probably won't work, they thin layer between the two sheets of gorilla glass will cause problems with registering your finger, especially if there is silicone in the way

You may want to look at the Spigen GLAS.t; same idea as what your talking about. It's chemically hardened glass, not gorilla glass, but it works fine over top of the regular screen. It does cost a bit more than what you linked to.

Exactly - Spigen or this other one (there was another one, cheaper). Right now your idea doesn't make sense. Using the front glass as a screen protector? What for? If I bought a front glass I would simply stop using screen protector altogether and just change my front glass for the one I bought when my original glass gets too damaged.

How much will it cost for the front glass.....can anyone give link on ebay?
I have been in contact with http://theglass-m.com
Here is the response I got "Xperia Z1 will have front and back tempered glass protector. Z1 glass protector is in production. If any news for Xperia Z1 or other. I will update you"
This is good news as the xperia z protectors were top notch. I will report back when I hear more news.
UPDATE
Just received this email
We have launched Xperia Z1 Tempered Glass Screen Protector. (Nano Slim 0.2mm)
http://theglass-m.com/products/glass-m-premium-tempered-glass-screen-protector-for-sony-xperia-z1
Sadly its only for the front right now but still 0.2 mm WOW
Ordered and will review
So Here is the review. Shipping took about 5 business days to receive. The packaging is nice and premium feeling. The glass is thin indeed, with a nice smooth feel to it. I previously had the Nikklin tempered glass on. They are both nice products but I would say the Glass-m has a better fit. It seems to cover a little more of the screen.
As with the Nikklin it fits fine in my charging dock. I have not yet received the back sheet of glass but I'm pretty sure once that is installed it will no longer fit in the dock. It seems to do a good job with fingerprints but only time will tell how long that lasts.
I will post pics once I get a chance
As promised here are some pics.
The first ones are the nikklin which I liked but the anti finger print coating wore off.
Then I removed the ASF
Then I applied the glas-m
The website says is't made of "Corning® Gorilla® Glass"
And on the product package it's says hardness of 9H.
But is Gorilla Glass 9H of not?
Gorilla Glass is reported to have a hardness of 7 (some say it is as high as 9. I've reached out to Corning for their "official" value, since they only use Vickers to measure hardness) in the Mohs scale, so any material with higher hardness, such as sand, diamond, or other minerals , will scratch your screen.

Sand have a hardness of 7H, so will sand scratch the glass?

I find all tempered glass can be scratched. I had them on my xperia Z for two moths and I would say they are very scratch resistant. I didn't have any noticeable scratches on them. I fond the back protect to take more of a beating since its always being placed on different surfaces. I like the Glass M because its cheap and fits good and yet the quality is equal to Spigen Glass-t. As for sand I would say it still a possibility to scratch the screen protector but stop rolling around on the beach with the phone in your pocket and you should be ok lol

Agree, almost tempered glass protectors are almost same,
Diamond (10H) -> Sapphire (9H) -> Tempered glass,
almost they wrote 8-9H, fact;
some wrote 9H, in fact maybe 8.x, just buy rounded tricks or for Ads.
Sands has random 2-10H, so, under sands, no tempered glass can avoid scratches yet.
Sapphire and Diamond can scratch Tempered Glass easily,
however, Tempered Glass cannot hurt Sapphire or Diamond.
(This is my understanding so far, any comments are welcome!)

Glass and sand are both at about 7H on the Mohs scale, sapphire is 9, diamond is 10.
These screen protectors use the pencil hardness scale in which 9H is about equal to 6.5~7 on the Mohs scale.
Oh~ Thanks!

its obvious sont never almost never uses gorilla glass. and ZL is newer than Z even better.
i vaguely remember reading somewhere that it was only the Z that got the dragontail treatment. the zl uses whatever the other option is besides gorilla glass and dragontail.
I think i read somewhere the screen of ZL is made up of normal mineral glass (used in watches etc just a little bit scratch proof) nothing fancy like dragontrail or gorilla glass, may be that's the reason they have put a shatterproof sheet on the glass to keep it all together in case of an accident.

Hmmm... then why do they put a screen protector on the Z's as well?
My understanding is the Z uses Dragontrail on the front.
With Gorilla Glass on the rear.
Apparently the reason for the rear being Gorilla Glass, it allows the different colour finishes the Z is available in.
Does the Xperia Z use both Dragontrail and Gorilla Glass?
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/02/20/does-the-xperia-z-use-both-dragontrail-and-gorilla-glass/
I have taken the ZL to have the same glass as the Z.
Particularly as it uses the same protective shatterproof film arrangement
But unlike the Z, the ZL's Sony logo is embedded in the glass.

Well all the aricles on Internet are misleading about Z's display glass so I'm not sure about it but I guess front display glass of both should be same.
The back of the Z being Gorilla Glass is news to me but I can assure you that Sony doesn't use Gorilla Glass if so it being on the back of the Z then maybe but it's not on the front the Z or the ZL

Xperia SP uses gorilla glass. Says so on Sony site. It's kinda weird that SP has it and none of the other phones do. Maybe they are dragontail. I wish Sony would be specific about the glass.

Your right I forgot about the SP it does use Gorilla Glass it's strange the choices they make why only the SP I wish my Xperia T used it as well.
So we still don't know what's Zl's screen made of. It's weird that Sony makes it so hard to find out. It should be on the official specs page.

You know whats funny about that screen protector on Z, when you remove it the SONY logo goes off with it. Its printed on the screen protector... Not a case for ZL though.
Is the glass completely scratch ressistant? Is it pure glass or is it groilla glass?
I honestly dont understand why u wpuld remove it? Its like a perfectly fit protector u never bought
Hello Omaro,
Z1 Compact uses Dragontrail glass which is as strong as gorilla glass. The glas does however not come with a oleophobic coating
As an answer to your first question there's no glass which is 100% scratchproof. Minerals can scratch pretty much any types of glass, and by minerals I'm talking about sand, stones etc etc.
The reason why most people wants to remove the preinstalled antishatterfilm is due to that it collects dust, fingerprints and its very easy to scratch. It's not recommended to remove it if you're not planning to apply a oleophobic coating on top of the glass.
Hope my answer cleared any doubts,
DevStaff

The surface of the glass under the plastic film is not as smooth as other phone screens. I think this is because it is not intended to be used without a film above it.
I removed Sonys plastic film and added Orzly Tempered Glass Screen Protector (you can use any other tampered glass protector). nearly perfect for my and much more scratch resistant than with the plastic film.

The reason because it does not feel as smooth is because of that there's no olephobic coating on top of the glass. You need to apply one yourself using a liquid solution, and it'll feel like on any other phone.
thanks guys^
but does this olephobic coating u speak of wear off after time?

nope. the z1c has a plastic black. no shatter-protection necessary, but causes the flashbleed problem. some people have replaced theirs with the glass back from the z1f, though.
I don't have any screen protector and am very happy with that. No need to put some ugly stuff on the front glass.

It's not from side to side but the gap is not such big either since the screen is only 2.5 rounded. I haven't seen tempered glass on rounded screen from side to side fully functional yet. I use nice and durable folie though.

Appreciate your response. But don't you think 0.2mm is too thin and is liable to shatter easily?

Wanna have my advice? Forget about tempered glass. It brakes one way or another, sooner or later. It shines only when you drop the phone on an extremely rough surface with stones or similar.
Dropping the phone on a flat surface or prevent scratches doesn't require tempered glass. Try this protection and it will give you a completely different view on screen protection:
https://forefrontcases.co.uk/produc...ile-phone-hydrogel/huawei-mate-20-x-hydrogel/
It's smooth as tempered glass, tinny and durable and doesn't make this blur effect as tempered glass, especially when it is dirty, makes.
Just try it. I promise that you won't regret. It's dirt chip regarding performance.
