Verizon X8.3 VK815 HDMI Out - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't found anyone else asking about this particular issue. I am trying to get HDMI out on my LG G Pad x8.3 from Verizon, model VK815. I'm running latest updated stock, not rooted. Verizon just says on their website that HDMI is not enabled for this device.
I have read that the regular LG G Pad works with a standard Slimport cable. I have a Verizon LG G4 and my slimport microusb to HDMI works flawlessly with no issues. So I have to think Verizon just turned off this feature for some reason on the x8.3.
My question is does anyone know of a way to enable HDMI out? Requiring root would be fine, I just don't have any idea where to start. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

So, it doesn't look like anyone knows too much about this specific issue for the Verizon LG X8.3. Maybe a slightly different question can get pointed in a better direction. I'm fairly new to Android, leaving behind an iPhone and iPad. So I don't know too much about things that Verizon may have disabled in the past.
Can anyone recall a device that Verizon disabled the HDMI out on? If it was a popular device then it would give me another avenue to Google to see if anyone was able t get it enabled again.
Thanks.

Hello, I do not have a solution for your question, but you may be interested in trying google chromecast, I am loving it, you can mirror your device wirelessly!

Agreed...chromecast is way better

I found this out after I bought the adapter and cannot get it to work. Why Verizon turn it off??!! :crying:

[Q] Accessories for 10.1 work with 10.1v?

Hello everyone!
I tried to figure out if you cover this issue at another thread, but got lost in the way, so, my apologies in advance if this question has been covered.
So, does anybody know whether the accessories for 10.1 work as well with the 10.1v? Does both tabs have the same input port for charging and docking station etc?
I was thinking for example this accessories:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAMSUNG-G...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1c1dbb1a9f
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-S...=UK_iPad_Tablets_eReaders&hash=item1e65cd5ef9
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth...K_iPad_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item1e658b348c
Any idea if they can work on my device? Any known connectivity / size issues?
Many thanks for your help, kind of disappointed with the selection of accessories for 10.1v
G.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. But:
1. HDMI adapter requires Honeycomb 3.1, so you would need to run custom rom.
2. Not sure if adapter will fit in as tablet it's few millimetres thicker.
3. As per point 1. Requires 3.1 Honeycomb, so again need custom ROM (something to do with HID devices over bluetooth, if you google it you should be able to find some more info.
Cheers
Thanks a lot!
If these are true, there's no hope...I don't want to flash my ROM, I don't know how to actually.
Do you happen to know whether samsung will have an update of the software to 3.1 for 10.1v?
Thanks again,
G.

Anyone get USB on-the-go (HOST) working

The European SGII does USB hosting with the proper adapter. I ordered this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GGBYJ4
nothing happens when I connect my phone to a FAT 32 formatted thumb drive. The thumb drive works in my Acer Iconia.
I wonder if I got a bad adapter or if Sprint disabled On-The-Go.
I can't seem to get it working either. Anyone know a way to enable it. I really wanted this phone for this feature.
from what I've seen on youtube the "host" message pops up as soon as the cable is plugged in. No enabling required. These were all European SGSII though. Samsung's own Epic 4G touch claims it works
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/tips--tricks-epic-4g-touch#CLIP
No host for Sprint & TMO
Client only per PDADB.net
AT&T will get the OTG host capabilities.
WHAT! WTF. That means the samsung site is wrong or Sprint actually went out of their way to disable this feature.
There has to be a way to re-enable it like what was done on the HTC HD2. I hope the source proves useful in providing the solution to unlock the feature which is advertised.
The review model AnandTech had appeared to have USB host working ... so if it doesn't work on store models, it should be a firmware issue.
Note that I don't have an E4GT, I'm just thinking with you.
If on the E4GT, you can find "DSLR Controller" in the market, at least the firmware reports that it is supporting USB host ... (if it doesn't, the app will not show up in Market)
Thanks for the issue. How difficult would it be for someone to work on a firmware modification? What does it entail? Where would one start?
crap. that was also one of the main points i decided to upgrade. also i had just moments before ordered that same USB host...
DSLR Controller beta shows up in the market from my phone.

Well then, as I said, the phone is actually reporting to Google that it does support USB host. Maybe they made some other mistake ? The Xoom on Android 3.1 has the same issue, USB host only half works (fixed in 3.2)
EDIT: Also, have you considered bad cables? I have read recently a lot of these OTG cables are pretty crappy and may not work. Note that popping in just the OTG cable without anything attached should already flash a notification at you (though the actual popup only happens when you connect a device)
yes I considered it.
my original post "I wonder if I got a bad adapter or if Sprint disabled On-The-Go."
I have another cable on the way so I will rule it out. It would still be nice to see if only me and JAmerican have this issue, Is it disabled? Did we get broken phones?

I doubt our phones are defective. I believe Sprint disabled the feature. The cable I have works because I used it on my Treo 800w and had no problems.
Just tried the cable and drive in a E4GT demo in a Sprint store. No host message.

Go to the AT&T store and see if the infuse has the same problem

Samsung shows USB Host support here:
(sorry, cant post outside links, yet)
samsung.com/us/article/tips--tricks-epic-4g-touch#USB
I have five different OTG cables, none work. Must be a firmware issue.
I do have three SGSII OTG cables.
Update: Just emailed Samsung Support... We wait...
If host is disabled (and it looks that way) I doubt there is anything we can do about it. There is NO mention of USB Host on any Sprint website or publication. It does look like the hardware is capable so maybe someone will grab the European drivers and roll them into a flashable update.

I fear that Samsung will just remove it from their site and deny such a feature exists on the Sprint version.
there could be hope http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265429&page=18
I believe that Sprint/Samsung disabled this feature because when I checked the Samsung website it showed the micro USB to USB cable and from one day to another (the supported devices) changed from the Epic 4G touch to the Att and T-Mobile variants

Smartdock and motorola lapdock...

has anybody with proper cables tried hooking up the gnote2/smartdock to a motorola lapdock? that would be friggin' awesome if the lapdock completely works with a hdmi cable and the keyboard/trackpad if functional with a usb from the smartdock. i really have no interest in the smartdock as i have mhl already so the smartdock would be redundant for me in the few situations i use mhl but if it works with the lapdock then a whole bunch of possibilities arise and my laptop would probably never ever leave the house.
so anybody know, tried, working on it, interested etc.? i was planning on selling my atrix/lapdock soon but seeing i need to order a couple things from samsung this week i am thinking of trying it. the thing is though, the smartdock has been unavailable on their website and $100 is too expensive for me to just experiment for hahas. if it becomes available and i can snatch it for $50 with a half off coupon then i will order the other cables necessary to try.
I would be interested in this as well. There is another new thread asking about it (though yours in newer).

Thanks. Didn't see that. Problem is finding a smart dock now. Amazon has no stock. There are 2 on eBay at let me empty your bank account prices. Samsung has no indication if and when these will be back in stock. So now the question remains... anybody want to sell their smart dock for a reasonable price so I can test this?

Supposedly the dock will be back in stock mid February. It is likely amazon will have it a few days before Samsung's website has it though. Don't ask me why.

[Q] Video Out????

Hi everyone! New here and must say I have really enjoyed learning about the whole root process.
Not rooted as of yet, but my question is a time sensitive one!
I have the e980 model from att. A wired connection to tv is a must feature for me.
I was informed by a rep it could do it by mhl cord and found it not true.
I found info about mydp, slimport, displayport functionality.
LG customer service was unable to verify compatibility,
I am hoping someone here can confirm for me this tech works with e980.
Fingers crossed it does, Monday is the last day of my return window.
I love this phone and truly hope I don't have to go that route!
Yes you are right SlimPort is what you need for the E980 the MHL one I think works on some of the Euro ones. I am getting one in the next few day and can report back. But to help you out go to this link http://www.slimportconnect.com/ they have a link to the Amazon one that is 29.95 so don't pay over that. I seen a few places showing it for 129.99. Hope this helps....
Thanks a LOT! I just found another thread regarding my question, don't know how I didn'tfind it in my searches... ordered from the company link you provided through Amazon. Can't wait!
I must say after reading about the differences in mhl and display port, I am very glad my phone is one of the very few to support it.

HDMI Out?

https://store.google.com/product/moshi_usb_c_hdmi_adapter
Google officially sells this adapter and I double checked with google support and specifically asked if this works with the pixel 2 PHONE and not just the pixel book. Their response was "yes this was specifically designed to work with the pixel 2 phone". I didn't want to pay $50 so I found what I thought was the exact same thing on amazon for about half the price. It was still the Moshi USB-C to HDMI Adapter. When i got it in I could not get it to work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I couldn't get it to show anything via HDMI. So I was thinking... ok maybe the Google store version is just slightly different since the support said it should work. The other option is support was just wrong and didnt know what they were talking about. My question is does anyone have this and can anyone confirm the Pixel 2 does HDMI out? I dont want to waste money buying the $50 adapter if it doesnt work and then have to send it back.
I believe support had no idea what they were talking about. The Pixel phones do no support video out of any kind through the UBS-C port

Thanks. That's what I was thinking too.
