I unlocked my sprint htc m8 to work on gsm and I was wondering if I could install the gpe firmware on my device. Would it brick my phone if I tried or just messup my service? Thx

The important part of @zhiarw's reply is NO.
Even with S-Off you can't do it with a Sprint/Verizon/CDMA device.
Sorry.

I have a Verizon m8 I am running GPE on it
This is how
1. Download GPE ROM(ROOTED OR STOCK) from This link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589 it is 100% unmodified, the non ROOTED one and the other one is just pre ROOTED else all is stock in it.
2. Download this kernel - http://www.massstash.com/android/m8/kernz/gpe/flarport/ElementalX-Port-m8-6.01.2-GPE-12-09-2015-03-18.zip don't set frequency more than 2600 mhz.
3. Flash ROM first then Kernel in TWRP.
You have GPE now...
Note : This will work on any Sprint or Verizon M8 but you should be s off.

That's not the GPE firmware, that's a GPE ROM. There is a difference.
Quoted from the GPE ROM thread that you linked to (under GPe RUU):
"GSM Devices Only! Verizon and Sprint / CDMA devices are not compatible. Dual SIM M8's are also not compatible."
You can flash the GPE ROM, but not the firmware.

Yep I did it just to get the 4.4.3 firmware and radio. I didn't use that guide I used the att to dev edition one. And knew I had to change the mid and cid. So I got a old twrp backup of dev edition and the stock recovery for that version. I flashed stock recovery then fastboot boot twrp_recovery.img
Then did restore of dev edition backup and when it booted I did the ota.
It made my bootloader 3.18. I just flashed my backup daily driver Rom bad seed customs.
And that was it. Really I don't see any difference. With s-off u can do anything as long as you know what you are doing.
The radio got me more speed on lte but not that much difference. I'm in Sacramento so we got lte everywhere.
Hi guys,
Just like to ask if I can just flash the latest firmware on my HTC one m8y without the need of relocking the bootloader / or thru OTA.
- shows as HTC_UL on my Bootloader / unlocked
- currently on s-off thru firewater.
- on Hboot 3.19
- firmware: 3.28.401.7
- on Supercid.
Could I just flash the firmware from any variant (preferably the one that has the latest? I have the htc m8y, isnt that an international variant? c
Being S-off you have the option to flash any firmware with the exception of CDMA firmware till you find what works for you. I would also like to mention you might want to get familiar with radio flashing as well

Truthfully, you don't need to upgrade. But if you really want to, you are s off and super cid. That's all you need for .9

I did not see this post, just jumped on the last reply, lol thanks! I also have an idea on radio flashing, process is pretty similar to the one for the M7.
I appreciate it, some rom s needs an upgrade in firmware to flash (like ARHD) glad that I can flash firmware even if it's from a different variant. the HTC m8y is uncommon.
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to install Cyanogen Mod 12 Lollipop nightlies on to my HTC One m8 from At&t, but whenever I do that CWM says I need a newer bootload version 3.17 or 3.18. How do I go about getting that as I already have the latest software from At&t (1.58). Right now my HBOOT version is 3.16.
Thanks!

You need to upgrade your fw. I always just run developer edition ruus since they're made to run on atts network. You probably need to be in at least 4.4.4 to get cm12 to run

anyone?
I recently got the phone and I absolutely love it to death. I've been browsing on the Android development threads and I keep seeing threads like this "[OTA ZIP+TWRP] HTC Desire Eye 2.19.401.1 STOCK Europe 5.0.2 Lollipop" and that worries me a bit. I bought this phone from AT&T and there seems to be only like 2 threads mentioning it. My question is exactly like the title, will ROMs titled "Europe" work on AT&T or are they both the exact same model and it's only the carrier differences?

If you are running stock lollipop right now, you can unlock your bootloader through HTC Dev, and flash a custom recovery. Then you can use almost any custom rom available for the desire eye.
However, if you want to flash stock RUU of another region (eg: European firmware), you need to have S-off which costs 25$

If you are running stock 4.4.4 and you are not rooted (and you don't have a custom recovery installed), you should be able to receive the OTA update to lollipop (check under software update)
There is a lollipop update available for the AT&T variant, so there shouldn't be any problems.
Achieving S-off (or security off) is only required for making changes that are not meant to be done by the average user. If you just want to try custom roms, you will be fine without it.

OK I just got the update from the AT&T update today and I am running 5.0.2 right now. As for custom ROMs (like Viper ROM or the de-odexed version) I need to enable S-Off right? Or is it only for firmware from a different region?

Okay, well done so far.
You don't need s-off, you only need to unlock your boot loader right now.
Visit this link:
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Select your device (desire eye) and follow the instructions. Let me know if you had any questions.
After you unlocked your boot loader, you need a custom recovery, but that comes later. Unlock your boot loader first!

Yes unfortunately it does wipe the entire internal storage for security reasons. So you have to backup your files.

You can't really backup your apps without root access. Just backup your files to your computer. You will have to install and configure your apps again after unlocking your device and flashing a custom Rom.

Try with flashing a sense based rom not CM... like leedroid, viperx, s.rom, etc.
Thanks for the reply,
Is that okay if the bootloader unlocked or S-On?

Totally:
unlocked bootloader = you can flash custom roms/recovery(you already got one)
S-on: security on and that's 95 percent of the users. It's better that way and it's not really needed

You have a couple problems:
1) Your firmware (hboot, radio, etc.) is very outdated, which won't be compatible with current ROMs. This is probably why CM12 failed to flash.
2) You have the Sprint variant, and can therefore only run ROMs that specifically support the Sprint M8. Otherwise, you need to flash the proper kernel. But the simple answer is to just flash ROMs that support Sprint M8.
My recommendation would be to relock the bootloader, flash the latest Sprint M8 RUU to update the firmware. Then unlock the bootloader again, install current TWRP, and the Sprint M8 ROM of your choice.

You need to address both items 1 and 2 in my last post, for custom ROMs to work properly.
You are going to have issue on all the current ROMs (even ones that support Sprint) due to your firmware (hboot, radio, Wifi, etc.) being outdated. You need to update your firmware, such as by RUU.

Yes. But be aware that RUU will wipe the phone. So backup any personal data you want to keep, before relocking the bootloader and RUU.

Thanks for helping,
Now everything is okay.. Like what you said before,
Where my device status was :
-Come from the Sprint HK (use on other region)
-Outdated firmware
-Unlocked bootloader
-S-on
My full step
-relock bootloader
-Flash the suitable firmware
-Flash the suitable RUU
My device status active but locked with sprint carrier which cause my device didn't have 3G network
So:
-unlock again
-install newest recovery, I'm using TWRP
- Root
-Flash new room that sense based with S-On,I'm using S-Room Jw-5.4.0
And I'm using windroid tool to relock, unlock, install recovery and root
Windroid tool took from here
