Is there a way to disable GPRS or HSDPA when Wifi is active?

Is there a way that i can either automatically or manually stop GPRS or HSDPA starting if i have an active Wifi connection?

the situation i refer to is.
I am surfing the net on my home wifi network, then by itself the GPRS starts and takes over the connection (and subsequently the am charged data usage fees). It has happened a few times and am not always aware when or why it switches on. the wifi remains on, but IE just uses GPRS.
Hitting the end call button would not work, becuase i am not on a call.
But if i was to be on a 'wifi' voip call, hitting the end buttton would cancel my voip call.
Surely others may have experienced this?

I have seen the same behavior. On my Trinity, I have it setup to get emails automatically every 60 minutes. It seems that no matter how I configure my connections, it prefers to use GPRS/3G for email. However, if I am surfing with wifi connected, even if GPRS is also connected, it uses the wifi connection for surfing. I have checked this with a data monitoring program. The only other time the GPRS/3G connects automatically is if the wifi connection is dropped.
edit: There is a program called No Data, which will toggle the data on and off. It could be useful when roaming etc.

The data monitoring program sounds like a good test.
Which one do you recommend and will it be able to differentiate between GPRS and HSDPA, and wifi?

Here is something that is interesting!
I was connected via wifi and opened up http://m.youtube.com to see what its like on the P3600i and it loads up Windows Media Player in streaming mode, but Windows Media Player automatically starts up the HSDPA connection to start the streaming!
If i disconnect the HSDPA connection the media player fails.
Thats got to be a classic example of this dilemma!

Although I do get annoyed when windows live instists it connects over GPRS instead of Wifi.

I am using GPRS Traffic Monitor, it will monitor USB, InfraRed port, GPRS, and MMS. For me, MMS is a per call fee, so I don't monitor that. I monitor only GPRS which includes all data like GPRS/3G/3.5G. It doesn't measure wifi since in principle that should be free for the phone. As I said, auto email fetching seems to always prefer GPRS if it is connected, if GPRS isn't connected it is happy to use the Wifi connection. PIE always takes the wifi if it is connected even if GPRS is connected also. I suppose different programs will have different behavior for connection preference. I have a 50meg limit on my phone provider which is why I monitor the connection. I would definitely check each program to see if it will take the wifi first, especially streaming media

Do you have a link? There seems to be a handful of matching apps, such as this one but theres no mention of USB, IR etc etc.
I also found GPRS Traffic Monitor 3.2 which looks real good as i would like to monitor 2 different GPRS connections through the Service Provider (such as 3netaccess, 3Services, and X-series data) but i am lead to believe that registration is by a key from the developer http://www.all-locations.com/ but they dont seem to be around anymore.

Im trying the GPRS Monitor that you have recommended but is it correct that it only totals the monitored connections, rather than providing individual tallies?.

Choosing WiFi over Data Connection when available - like iphone

Is there an app that chooses your preferred Wifi connection when it's available, like at home, over your Data connection? I know the 3G iPhone has something like this and i'd like to have that happen on my HTC TyTn running CRCs 13.0 Windows 6.1.
Any suggestions?

SPB phone suite is one! That's why I use it!

which part of their package does what i want? i've had a look at their site
i don't want all that other stuff that they offer - just the automatic detection of my home WiFi and connection to it - disconnecting my Data connection

I did say 'spb phone suite'
Edit, not sure if it can be 'automated' you need to select a profile.

Mine works without having Phone suite installed.
When I'm at home I activate my Wifi - open activesync and sync my info. When done I simply close my wifi connection. When I'm on the road I just open activesync and it automatically opens my defauld data connection to sync via GSM / 3G. The process works simply enough.

I don't like the manual part of how WM uses available Data connections. It should be able to
1. Power on and Connect to a registered WiFi accesspoint when available
2. Connect via GRPS/UMTS/HSDPA... when no registered WiFi AP is present and power off WiFi to save battery power
Nokia phones with S60 (not FP2) operating system do support this function.

I have mine set to turn off the wifi if no network is connected in two minutes (wireless network, power settings). Sounds like you want something that will automatically turn on wifi every time you activate your device, instead of manually choosing to turn on wifi.
Before I had the wifi set to turn off, I found that was a pain in the proverbial, as it kept telling me about networks it found that I wasn't interested in connecting to!

Mobile Wi-Fi router stopped working

So I've been using the Tom coding package that installs the mobile Wi-Fi router with no problems until last night... now it keeps trying to connect to ISP.Cingular and then stops... it basically doesn't work now. I've tried to uninstall and reinstalled it dozens of times with no luck.
And yet... the 3G connection works because I can browse through Opera. So...?

OhI might add that I can turn on the Wi-Fi and connect to my in-house router just fine and do what on the internet through the phone. SO... it is definitely something specific with wireless internet sharing.

You need to make sure that it is connecting to the correct address. At the bottom of the App, it should have a few different choices of connections to use. Try another one and see if it works. You may have to set up a new connections for this to work properly. Keep in mind that tethering/mobile hotspot is not covered by AT&T's wireless data plan. It is a separate monthly charge. You should be careful when using it too much at a time, so they don't block or throttle your connection.

The device I am trying to connect with to my Tilt 2 is a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and apparently it doesn't like ad-hoc, whatever that is exactly. I was told on the Galaxy Tab section of this forum that this is the case, and that I need some kind of "mobile ap", although again I do not understand what that exactly means. ???

Ah, see that's much better information. So, no, you probably won't be able to connect without another app doing so. Ad-hoc is, simply put, a connection to another device other than a router which is allowing you access to its Internet connection. If the device you're trying to connect with doesn't allow ad-hoc connections, then the Wifi Router app won't do you any good, as that is the type of connection it uses. Most mobile devices do not natively support this, however. The problem, therefore, is with the Galaxy Tab you have, not with the TP2. Find an app or mod that allows for ad-hoc connections and you'll be all set.

No. Ad-hoc is a connection between two devices. Unless you use a router, that's how it's going to be no matter if you are using WM, a laptop, iOS, Android, et cetera. The connection type is determined by the device sending the signal. If it comes from a device, then it is ad-hoc. It is not a problem with the software. That is how wifi was designed to work in the first place. The problem, again, is with the Tab, not the WM application.

Well apparently there is a solution for the Tab that allows it to see ad-hoc networks, so I will try that and let you guys know how it went.

Can no longer connect to Ad-Hoc with Tilt 2
I have been using both the CM Internet Sharing program and the WMWifiRouter with no issues for over a year now on my AT&T Tilt 2.
One day a couple weeks ago I had been using CM to connect my laptop to the internet. everything was just fine as usual.
At some point, I had disconnected and tried to reconnect, and since then I can no longer use either of these programs.
What happens is this...I turn them on and the phone will no longer hold a connection to the ad-hoc network that is created. Up in the status bar I see the icon showing WiFi trying to connect but it will not stick anymore.
I can connect to my office and/or home wifi router still. It just will not connect to the ad-hoc network any longer.
This makes no sense to me at all, since it has always worked and was even working earlier in the day when it stopped working.
I use the tethering frequently and really need to get this solved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Portable Wi-Fi hotspot

I want to use portable Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone to connect to my laptop in places where public wi-fi is not available, or to connect to two computers to each other. And it seems to be working.
But I have a problem. I do not want to use mobile network to access Internet for those computers. I want only to exchange data between phone and computer, or between computers themselves.
But every time I switch on hotspot, 3G connection switches on automatically, even if it is switched off on purpose. I know this is intended use of hotspot, but I have a question:
Is there a way to prevent phone switching 3G network on in wi-fi hotspot mode, or just preventing data traffic over 3G?
Or I am missing the point completely?

The application is not intended for such usage; all it does is route traffic between connected wlan-clients and the carrier's apn. The phone itself has the ip-address 192.168.1.1 during this setup, but it is not listening on any ports that would be useful for your setup (ie 'cifs/samba').

I do not know if I do understand you but here are the facts:
I connect two dell laptops to portable wi-fi hotspot on my wildfire s:
one is : 192.168.1.135
other : 192.168.1.185
I can ping one from another. If I share a folder in one (.135) and go to others(.185) "Search for computers or people" I see all files in shared folder and can do all the usual operations over them (edit, move...)
Also if I install Remote Web Desktop from Market on my phone I can access phone through web interface.
In a word, I can do all things as on "normal" wi-fi network ( and I promise it is the only network around here ) except all the time I have 3G switched on. And I do not want to do that because I see my network data traffic going up.
So, as I see things, my only problem is unwanted 3G traffic.
Help?

Ah, but you did not mention that you had installed a seperate application to open up a port for the webinterface.
This however does not change the intended usage for the mobile wifi hotspot application!

hey...you can try this:
1. go to your mobile network settings
2. create a new APN, a dummy one
3. set the new APN as default
4. launch your wifihotspot
I did not test it with 2 pcs but, when u launch wifihotspot, 3g no longer comes on and my pc still connected to the wireless network without any problems.

I ran more test on this issue. The previous posted solution works like a charm.
I was able to use the wifihotspot as a wireless access point:
1. 2 or more PCs can communicate with each other (browse folders)
2. If one of the PCs has internet access, it shares to the rest of the PCs
3. If one of the PCs has an ethernet connection to a server, all other PCs also get connection to the server
For 3. to work, you will need to brigde the local area connection with the wireless connection on the PC that has cabled ethernet connection. Also browsing folders will work only if you use \\server ip (\\servername does not work).
I will try getting DNS access via the hotspot later.

Wifi loosing connectivity (H815)

This has been plaguing me for a while and it's making me hate this phone. I've also seen this issue pop around the internet so it's not just me.
What happens is the wifi stays connected to the router but has no connectivity (i've tried pinging the gateway when it happens, the connection is dead although it is listed in the router as connected). And it happens totally random, sometimes it works entire day, sometimes it happens every hour or worse. This seems to have gotten worse with MM. I used to be able to fix it with turning wifi off/on but now even reboot wont help (it connects to the router but immediately says no internet on wifi), i have to reset wifi on the router for it to start working. I have 2 other androids (kitkat, lolipop), an iphone 5, tablet with a hybrid OS, 2 laptops and a desktop on the wifi working without issues so that kinda rules out the router as the sole culprit (it's a Technicolor crap from my ISP that i can't change, i can only buy an additional AP but i have no idea it will help). Ofc, when the connectivity is lost, the phone is still connected to the wifi, hence doesn't switch to network and i stop receiving notifications, which is driving me insane (also a work phone).
I recently installed an app ("wifi connection manager", the app itself is fairly useless, half the stuff doesn't really work that well, and all the options are really things you can do manually) that has a background service that i thought would keep the connection alive. It worked for about a week and then all of a sudden it stopped. I've tries everything else, short of reflashing the phone.
So after ****ing around for the 1000th time, trying to figure it out i realized that turning the WMM off (router QoS) stops the connectivity issues. Problem with this solution is that my download rate over the wifi drops by half immediately (from 50mbit to 25) and after a while all the wifi connections start to deteriorate to the point where it becomes painfully slow. What's more puzzling however is that when i do turn it off, the G4 connects via 802.11g (and for some reason this makes the connection not lose connectivity). Other devices connect via 802.11n whether WMM is off or on (except the desktop, which has an old wifi card, also on 11g).
Sorry for the wall of text. This and the anticipation of a bootloop is making me seriously regret my purchase.
So my two questions are:
1. Is there a way for me to force the G4 to connect via 802.11g even when WMM is On ? It obviously chooses how to connect on it's own.
2. Given the history of events, is there a network guy somewhere here that could identify wth is going on ?
