6.0.1 and keep WiFi on during sleep (never) issue - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using the "never" option under "keep WiFi on during sleep" in advance WiFi settings for the last couple Android versions on my last couple devices and have never had a issue. WiFi will disconnect when the device is in sleep/doze mode and when I wake the device it automatically reconnects.
Since the latest Android update (MMB29K) my WiFi will disconnect but when a wake the device it does not reconnect. I view the WiFi networks available and there are none until I toggle WiFi on and off and it reconnects.
I have also noticed that when I leave my WiFi network range and then return it does not automatically reconnect either until I toggle WiFi on and off.
My WiFi was working fine before the latest update (MDB08M)
I am running stock system and patched kernel with systemless root SuperSU 2.62-3 unencrypted.
I have tried reflashing the radio, boot, system but does not fix the issue.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this issue? I haven't tried going back to complete stock without root and being encrypted because I don't want to unencrypt my data again and I prefer my system rooted but am almost at the point of testing that.
If anyone has any ideas on how to correct this feel free to share your advice.
Thanks in advance!

Yeah I have the same issue that when wifi on during sleep is set to "only when plugged in" (which significantly improves my stand-bye battery drain) the phone doesn't connect to my wifi or show any of the surrounding networks until I toggle wifi off and on again. I'm running stock 6.0.1.
I've got no idea how to fix it though...

same on my side with stock 6.0.1
i had to change wifi settings to "always on" in order to avoid this problem.

Hi i had the same problem to but have no idea on fix.

every android release brings a wifi problem... it starts to be really annoying

Same problem here. I was rooted, but after flashing everything back to stock, problem persists. Hope this gets fixed quickly...I often forget to switch wifi off and on again, so I send a lot of unecessary data traffic through the mobile net

so you have tried to factory reset, and the problem is still there?
that would avoid me to perform a factory reset for nothing...

I'm having same issue after the update, i.e., my phone is not connected to a familiar network, unless I toggle the WiFi off then back on.

Thanks all for replying. Sounds like it's a bug. Hopefully Google patches it in the next security update.

I have the same issue, but I need to reboot my Nexus to fix wifi connection. Toggle off/on doesn't help...

i'm very worry, this problem is very hard.
how i solve it?

I've had success with Wi-Fi reconnecting after first loss of signal even when set to "only when plugged in". I had to enable Wi-Fi scanning under Settings > Google > Location > [...] > Scanning > Wi-Fi scanning. I'd be interested to hear if this works for others...

I found with the February security update that the WiFi will connect and disconnect but not if it goes into deep sleep/dose mode. If it is in sleep mode for an extensive period of time it will not reconnect. Works fine on the N7(2013). I did see a ticket started and Google marked it as complete/fixed.
Maybe March update will fix it ?

Any feedback on March update fixing this issue? ?

not fixed at all... ?
at least last update improve general performances

Still not fixed after April update. #grrrrrr

Is Wi-Fi really problematic on Note2?

I see reports of problematic Wi-Fi for the Note2 & I've heard the multi-view update (for AT&T anyway) will also include Wi-Fi improvements so the question for current Note2 owners is just how problematic is Wi-Fi really at this time?
-Thnx
Not problematic at all
I personally haven't seen any hardware deficiencies on this device, and no major software issues. Wifi is stable, the hot spot is stable, bluetooth is stable, and I'm getting higher speeds and better connectivity then I've ever seen on tmo's network.
I also have no issues with wifi what so ever. Great phone! Everything works as it should; minus having the multi window update of course.

Good to hear about the Wi-Fi as I use Wi-Fi a lot & it could have been a deal breaker. I'm hoping T-Mobile will feel more pressure regarding the multi-view update when Verizon this week launches with it & AT&T who has worked on it for a while updates it. Sprint the first major carrier to get multi-view is my current carrier with the EVO which will see its 2 yr contract end Saturday so I ordered http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A45SF7G last night-should arrive Friday. Would also like to see this white case when available as I'll likely be getting the Note 2 in grey & want to see it in these black & white kickstand cases like my black EVO. I'll also get http://www.amazon.com/Seidio-CSK3SSGT2K-BK-ACTIVE-Kickstand-Samsung/dp/B00A45SGKC when available again as my EVO & seen in Seidio Active and Surface Case Unboxing and Review for the Samsung Galaxy Note II .
I hope T-Mobile doesn't wait until the Note 3 to update to multi-view & what ever happened to the screen recorder function?
Wifi connectivity is awesome no issues.
So do you all think the reports of Wi-Fi issues are just isolated issues then?

"WiFi
The Note 2 uses BCM4334 for WiFi and is enabled for both 2.4 and 5 GHz. Just like the Galaxy S 3 that means 40 MHz channels on 5 GHz for a maximum physical layer speed of 150 Mbps. I did have some weird issues here, no matter what I did I couldn’t get the Note 2 to go on the 5 GHz AP, or get up to 150 Mbps.

Curiously enough there isn’t any 2.4 or 5 GHz priority toggle under the advanced tab in WiFi settings, yet the Galaxy S 3 models have this toggle and the same WiFi hardware stack. I suspect there’s some software or configuration issue here.
As a result we see iPerf performance out of the Galaxy Note 2 along the lines of what you’d expect for just 2.4 GHz operation. I’m puzzled as to why this is the case quite honestly."
My wifi sometimes disconnect and reconnect a few times a day. Never had any problems on my sg3. Don't think it's my router. I passed my returning window.

I did have that problem when I first bought it actually. I tried disabling the wifi sleep option by doing these:
*#0011# > press menu key on phone > WiFi > click the "ON" button so it does't light up (basically turn it off).
It seemed to have solved the problem but still seem to happen rarely. I thought i had a dud but after I did a factory data reset and all wifi problems were since solved.
My friend did a factory reset before he even used his phone and he never experienced any Wifi problem. Hope this helps...

Thanks. Just turned off the wifi sleep mode in phone setting. Hopefully this will help with wifi dropping.
FWIW I've been a tad disappointed in the WiFi, performance seems okay but it's finicky about routers. I've got a mid range Cisco unit (500 series) at home and it will not connect to the 2.4ghz side at all, but will the 5ghz. At the office it's the other way around (Engenius business grade stuff). Once connected it's been fine, seems slightly slower over wifi than the original note but otherwise fine, it's just picky and takes some extra steps for me. I've upgraded to the latest firmware on my router at home with no change, not that I expected one as the release notes had nothing applicable.

any ideas what are the difference between the wi-fi power saving from this menu vs the "keep wifi on during sleep" in the phone settings? They seem to turn on and off independently.

I'd check the Wi-Fi sleep policy but curious why a factory reset before using the phone would help as shouldn't it already be in a factory reset state before using (i.e. what your friend experienced could have just been a coincidence)?
Good to see that this is not in fact a common experience..

I'll pay you to fix this. *PLEASE*

Basic info:
- I'm on The People's Rom GS3.17
- I'm using KTweaker and running one of their profiles
- I'm ATTEMPTING to use Tasker to regulate Wifi home/out and data home/outside
So pretty much here's my problem:
I've attempted to use Taster to make sure Wifi is ON when im at home and OFF when i leave home (according to cell towers)
I've also tried to make sure Data/Wifi is OFF when screen is OFF and ON when screen is on.
But even if Tasker was working perfectly, this problem still persists and this is it:
1) When I use WiFi at home, every so often, it will just shut off (even if the screen is on) and it will revert to 3G
2) The only solution to this is to turn off Wifi, then turn it back on, and only THEN will it capture the SSID and connect to the internet.
Example shown below:

In the above picture, "InternetOnly" is the SSID for my university and yet, with Wifi enabled, it doesn't access the damn SSID and the internet! It is using 3G. In fact, when I click to connect to that SSID, it says "out of range" which is BS. Only when I reset the Wifi connection does it connect me to the internet/ssid. Exact same problem occurs with the SSID at home. Wifi policy is set to sleep "never" btw.
As for Tasker, this is what I'm using for automation which is failing epicly (I deleted the task about cell towers because it was getting annoying):
I THINK the problem would work if I stock resetted my phone using ODIN but I don't want to
Someone please help.

Okay so it happened again; I'm at home, and it was connected to WiFi, and now it's back to 3G even though WiFi is enabled. When I click to connect, it says "failed to connect to network" even though I'm literally a few feet from the router.
In TPR you have to freeze in Titbu just like you did good move. The settings have it removed because so many people where messing things up not knowing what they where doing.

Yeah the update is that even after flashing the damn .zip, the WiFi still randomly disconnects from my SSID (even though the WiFi itself is enabled)
SUPER ANNOYING!!!
Should I just change the SSID? I heard sometimes it doesn't like upper-case letters and numbers.

Try Netflix over wifi, any issues?

Just recieved my G4 from T-Mobile. Factory fresh device here. When using the Netflix app while on wifi im recieving problems. Basically sometimes doesnt log me on at all. Then when i do switch to cellular data, it then works. Also the videos take longer then usual to start if it does start at all. I have the Note 4 right beside me connected to the same wifi, works without a problem. I did factory reset again to eliminate singular instances. Doesnt seem to effect the outcome. Anyone else with similar problems??
No issues for me on my Verizon G4 on Wi-Fi.
No issues for my tmo variant.
Does this issue replicate on other Wi-Fi networks as well?
I haven't used Netflix long on the G4 but when I was checking it out it seemed 100% fine. Logged in superfast and playback as well. I did testing vs my Note 2 and the G4 blew it away how fast everything was loading etc.
I had to turn off Wi-fi calling. I couldn't sign into Netflix with it on. Netflix is working fine for me with it off.

Not likely, in my case at least. The router in question is an ASUS RT-N16 running a Tomato variant with QoS rules that have been working flawlessly for me for two years. In addition, I wasn't even using Wifi calling, it was simply enabled. My N5, N7, and Galaxy S2 have no problems signing in. The error I received had to do with the network time. As soon as I disabled Wifi calling, the error resolved.
Turning off wifi calling worked. Thanks for the advice.
So after getting the replacement G4 in store my Netflix not working either without Wifi calling off. The old phone was able to play back fine with it on. Can anything else be tried. Since Wifi calling is a feature I use at my house since we have bad signal area and only use Netflix on Wifi so they both need to be working. I tried everything from Netflix chat will try a modem/router reboot again.
I did another factory reset and only connected the 5G wireless signal (thought maybe that was the issue) it worked right away but once google service updated again thats it wont work without Wifi calling off so...
Anyone other Tmobile users can test this or Netflix and say if they need to have Wifi Calling off or not ?
I do believe it's something with the Google Service update since I tried it again same issue. I did find out you don't have to turn Wifi Calling off but change it to Cellular Network Preferred instead of Wifi Preferred. It does work if you change it back to Wifi sometimes but only if the video is preloaded but it's hit or miss if it works but if you play another video you will have to change it back to Cell or Off.
WiFi + "WiFi Calling" + NetFlix does not work
I had the same problem with my new "LG G4" phone. If connected to WiFi and the "Wi-Fi Calling" feature is enabled then I get these NetFlix app errors:
- Please make sure that your device has network connectivity and the Date and Time settings are acurate (-3)
or
- Sorry, we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please visit the Netflix website (12001).
I tested on multiple very high quality WiFi networks.
The workaround was to:
- Disable "Wi-Fi Calling" when using WiFi and NetFlix
or
- Don't use WiFi, instead use T-Mobile's cellular data network
Thanks but look @ Sfkn2 post at the top member is with Tmobile and said no problems. I replied around that time no issues but now I have the problems. Yes those are the errors.
Someone is to blame and they all just want to point fingers at each other. It's on Tmobile to fix this and that probably won't happen.

Yes that's what strange that I had 1 of them working on it but both don't now unless I change to Cellular Network Preferred . Can you tell me if your on a 5GHz or 2.4GHz connection or if both work and then your Router model. The connection shouldn't matter much since I had it working on both and found the 5GHz was strong enough to use in most my house and was using that most of the times. Might try changing the channels or something.
I have the Asus RT-AC68U (not the Tmobile one) I bought this just after release.
Streaming to my phone using the Emby app from my Emby server works fine as well.
I know we have a work around to atleast Stream but need to get this sent to the right places for a fix.

Makes no difference whether it's 2.4 or 5. Dynamic IP setting. QOS option is off.
I posted the issue over at http://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/3bedec/lg_g4_netflix_not_working_with_wifi_calling/ and got a response from a Tmobile Employee which I believe is on the Engineering side. They are going to report the issue so it's a start to see if they can fix it.

Wifi and data problem

I have a T-Mobile htc 10 and recently updated the phone that was sent by T-Mobile (1.81.531.4). Lately, when I'm connected to wifi and leave the range of the wifi the phone will not connect to the data network. It will show 4g (big icon) with 3/4 bars but there is no connection. I can't send text messages and the internet says I have no connection and the web page won't load.
Turning mobile data on and off won't do anything. I have to turn on airplane mode and then turn it on. That's when the mobile data starts working.
I am having that issue as well. I rolled back and the problem went away. Must be something in that update.
How did you roll back? Are you rooted?
Make sure "Auto switch to mobile network" is checked under your advanced WiFi settings.

I'm also seeing the same thing. Has this issue been resolved? I've just applied "Auto switch to the mobile network" so only time will tell.
UPDATE: applied "Auto switch to the mobile network" unfortunately that did not fix the issue.
My carrier is T-Mobile
Build: 1.81.531.4
I have an unlocked HTC10 and use it on Tmobile, I had that exact problem with mine also after an update which i dont remember the number, but after the last update from last month (1.91.617.1) it got fixed, i was able to make it work with a trade of a little battery life.
My fix:
Go to developers options and enable the "Cellular data always active" that way even when you are connected to wifi the phone will leave the 4g/Lte connection open.
Try that at least until they release the OTA for your phone
Let me know if that works.. good luck!

However, I still feel kelbaez has fix the issue of being at home and connected to wifi and with his fix I have not as of yet lost data connection. FYI, prior to his fixs at less once or twice a day.

Android 10 5g wifi keeps dropping

Hi guys
I'm using a wifi repeater Netgear EX8000. These days my wifi is very unstable even though it's full bar. The internet keeps dropping
I've tested it out with static IP on my phone setting and yet the wifi is still dropping fast.
Next to my test is my old phone Samsung S8+ where the wifi is stable without any drops. Both are connecting to the same 5G network. Both have the same Gateway, DNS. Only the static IPs are slightly different. This leads me to think Android 10 have bad wifi issues.
Anyone else having this problem?
If yes, how do you solve it? or do you downgrade back to android 9?
I was having wifi troubles, would be connected but nothing coming through. What helped me was in Wifi check the settings symbol in the network you are connected to and go to MAC address type and select "use device MAC" especially if you are trying static IP on your router.
Thx for the reply. I tried that but doesn't help for my case.
Have the same problem here. I don't have the 5g model and so far the only wifi drops I get are on 5ghz. I have not tested the 2.4ghz to see if it does the same thing.
So far usually restarting the wifi (toggle off and back on) fixes it. Dynamic/Static IP/metered/unmetered settings have no effect. I have no wifi control programs and wifi power saving settings are disabled. I do have mobile data on all the time.
As for downgrading it's what ever you want to do. IMHO this is one of those quirks that comes with a new OS update, and it isn't just Samsung devices that have been reported as having the same issue. I would presume that a subsequent update would probably contain a fix. Seeing as we just got an OS upgrade a factory data reset might be of more help then not.
I myself haven't done and FDR yet, but then again I am perfectly ok with toggling off and back on the wifi connection. I may end up doing a FDR at another point in time, or I might just make a tasker routine (restart wifi when no internet detected).
I have the same problem with Public wifi that require you to sign in...

If the movie is continuously fast forwarded in the local area network, the WIFI speed will be reduced to only 100KB / S.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your throughput speed issue is not the same as a WiFi disconnect issue.
Also SMB can be a fickle like that and effected by things if your just downloading to the phone or streaming a video, app support (CX File Explorer's SMB support), video file format/conversion via software... In your case I'm betting on non WiFi related issues since your attempting to stream pirated movies (saw that in your other thread) that probably are not converted for your phone and range in 11 to 14 gigs in size.

In the local area network, continuous transmission and playback, there is no problem with movie format. The software I use is CX File Explorer's and mxplayer.
The reason why this problem is because the previous S6 S7 NOTE8 does not have this problem

I had ran a tasker routine to check for internet connection, and upon none in restarts the wifi on the phone.
I also ended up doing a factory data reset and set the phone back up (not using a backup) to resolve the issue. Avoiding the use of a backup means that any corrupted settings that were in my phone (that would have been backed up) did not get back into my phone. This maybe about the only solution to try.. another would be to try and different router (use a friends internet or something, so long as it's not the same router as yours). If the connection is stable on a different router then it maybe time to consider an upgrade to the wireless router your using.
Ultimately I ended up getting a wifi6 router and have not had a single problem at all. I also migrated away from using a private dns setting and use a dns block list with a vpn app. I am not sure if an update released to the phone (or a combination of things) fixed it or not, but it's working without issue.
I found this to work. I have been struggling with this issue for a while and found that it is a conflict with the wifi ip settings. The router changes ip configuration changes everyday for your protection. Change ip in wifi -- sprocket--advanced -- change from dhcp to static then save. Issue resolved.

I use a vpn that seems to do the trick.
Hello Everyone it is 4th of February 2021. I have an ONE PLUS 6 i started having an issue with my 5ghz wifi after the upgrade to android 10 almost 2 years ago . Anyhows it would drop the wifi randomly or dissconnect me from it and when i turned it on the 5ghz network it would take over a minute untill it connects. I have finally found A BIG solution to this problem it's the Security in your Modem. On my modem it was on security WPA-WPA2PSL-AUTO. Now i changed it to ONLY WPA2-PSK Or depending on your device which one works better if u have the option of WPA PSK either one of these u can choose them but dont go for WPA-WPA2PSL-AUTO. It's a security-Bug issue that popped up on many android 10 devices after the update. So once i changed it to either one of those instead of WPA-WPA2PSL-AUTO ' my issue went away. I've been struggling with this problem since the android 10 update came to my ONE PLUS 6 . So there you have it FINALLY A FIX TO OUR PROBLEM
