I ordered my Nexus 5X from bhphotovideo, shipping to Mexico. Sadly, I got a defective camera and bhphotovideo doesn't want to comply with customs here in Mexico so if I exchange my item I'll have to pay import taxes again (about 147 usd(even with this the phone was cheaper than buying it here in Mexico)).
I think the best option for me would be to replace the camera (it looks really easy) but I haven't been able to find a replacement camera module at a decent price.
Do you guys know a page where I could buy this? Or does someone knows when they might become available?
contact Google for a replacement/repair. they are usually better at customer service than LG. Ultimately call LG for a repair quote. It shouldn't be much.
what's wrong with it?

I think I'll try LG since they have offices here in Mexico, let's hope they help even though it was bought in the us
mate that looks more like dust between the lens and the back cover... i've seen this happen in a dslr where dust goes between the lens and the image sensor
if LG fails to repair your device (i say they will fix it) then you can always open it to clear the dust out.

I think that the spot might be in the sensor itself but it is worth a try
Will removing the back cover void the warranty?
Well I tried opening an though I couldn't remove the black spot it moved to another place... so I'm guessing it some dust really really stuck to the inner lens?
Any ideas of what I can use to clean it?

they sell cans that contain compressed air.. specially used for electronics.. you could try that if there's any opening around the lens.. but i doubt there will be any opening. to prevent dust going in, in the first place.
http://gokimco.com/blog/using-compressed-air-dusters-to-clean-electronic-circuit-boards
here's what it looks like
the first thing i'd do is try to figure out where the dust is sitting. most likely its just between the lens and the back cover lens which would make it really easy to fix
Today while sleeping I dropped my pillow on the charger of the nexus... and it fell to the floor
When I used the camera again the spot was gone and the camera is now working correctly D:
I got lucky I guess <3

I've only had my Note 3 for a week and already it looks like there are tons of scratches on the camera lens. I already had an Otter Box for the Note 3 when it arrived, so it's been in that it's whole life. I say they are scratches, but they look like some kinda disease on the lens, like spiderwebs or something. I've tried to clean with professional lens cleaner and cloth for my DSLR, and it's just weird. They fade and come back.
The pictures it is taking seem OK, but I don't want to wait too long to do a swap as I bought my phone outright to keep my monthly bill low.
Any ideas?
might it be that you still have the protective covering on the lens? you're supposed to take it off.

I thought that as well. But I took it to the store and they called it some kind of fog on the lens that wasn't normal. They gave me a new phone.
Thx T-Mobile!

none, they will repolish your lense out of scratches...
The second thing... that lense scratching is only your fault, not HTC's... it like hitting a car in front of you and blaming your car maker about your driving style...

I agree with you partially. When you pay a huge deal for a premium car, and the manufacturer uses flimsy carbon fiber body, what do you do ? Go back and report. If you were to crash the car made out of a metal, there would be subtle damage. The same doesn't happen with a carbon fiber body. In this case, the manufacturer has to be blamed. Its their fault.
And polishing the lens would further cause additional scratches on it. :good:

Only the lens would be replaced.
Does yours have scratches on the display ?
No lenses won't be replaced. The seconds the material does not matter, you can scratch almost anything, it is cheaper to learn some manners or pick up some protecting cover. Car warranty also is broken on ANY car if you forgot to change oil after certain milage.

I also want to know if HTC acknowledge this lens coating issue and replaces the lens for free (I assume with upgraded version of the coating)
I am wandering if this is general problem with all M8s? I am aware that not all owners are reporting the issue. I think if this is related to heavy usage, ie heavy gaming and thus overheating. Some users are not a gamers and do not use their phones to the extent they start heating so much- hence the coating stays undamaged.
So my question is: are you a heavy user and is your lens scratched?

I'm not a heavy user. I don't game on these huge 4k screens. Well, mine had scratches long ago. I tried my luck out polishing them, but in vain. It further damaged it. The only solution was to get it replaced for no charge. As I've seen, many(most) M8's suffer from the same issue. Many people are ignorant about this issue and might have to visit the service sooner or later. A trip to the service is a must though. Why else get it replaced straight away, instead of HTC back firing you that it was your fault. Just get it replaced before its too late.
By the way, does yours have scratches on the display ? That seems to be a common issue too. :good:
Actually I am still using my One X. But I am seriously considering buying the M8.
Do you know if this problem is applicable to newer batches or it has random occurrence? I could not find anywhere information about HTC addressing this issue.

Even though you get an M8 from the newer batch, it takes me to explain you the fact that these are not made up of diamond. Lets be very clear with that point. I'm using my S3 till date. I know its got blemishes all over, and the camera lens has many tiny scratches; it doesn't bother me since anyways those scratches are small, and they wouldn't be in focus. Never expect the device to stay in mint condition. Once it leaves the factory, things wont be the same. Lol, some have defects when manufactured ! Just enjoy the device ! :good:
M8 lense ? Parts? Same or different for each carrier
I am curious are all lenses the same size for each carrier on the m8 model. I'm finding a sprint one but no at&t.
I asume it shouldn't be a difference
Got a replacement camera for my cracked bezel recently and I just realized the camera doesn't seem to work right. When I take a picture with the flash on, the picture comes out looking like nothing but a big white light. Anyone else have this issue or maybe a fix?

You probably got a bad phone and need to do a replacement again. Keep in mind I'm not trying to be rude with this next comment. This is why you don't exchange a perfectly working phone just because it has a crack. Chances are the refurbished phone you get in return is going to suck a$$.

BAD ASS G3
Anybody know where I can get this repaired or where I can buy the part?
I'm actually quite dissapointed with the strength of the lens it cracked in my pocket like seriously shame on you HTC.
Mine did the same thing. They replaced it under the uh oh protection but I'm pissed I had to use it 2 days into owning the device.
I refuse to use my uh oh protection on it, like it doesn't effect how my pictures come out just not appealing

Any luck?
My M9 camera just cracked down around the middle as well :/ 2 days, no mishandling at all. Did anyone have any luck getting it fixed/replaced without using Uh-oh protection?
Sadly I haven't read anyone who's had any luck, people are just keeping it as is or getting it replaced with uh oh
Mine was replaced in store in the UK with no issues
This is disturbing. I work in construction and bang my phone on stuff while in my pocket. Thought the sapphire was an upgrade lol
Sapphire is extremely hard and resistant to scratching... But that also means it's brittle. While it's going to be extremely hard to scratch, it's going to be easier to crack.
Which is also another reason(aside from being expensive) they probably chose not to use it on the screen. (Apple as well)
so i got annoyed and just took the rest of the glass off i faced two issues, one due to the crack under certain lights i would get a glare, kinda like when you wet glass and see the rainbow colors, secondly dust got under the lens and i couldn't clean it out the pictures would look fuzzy, and lastly the cracked really F*&#!ed with the beauty of the phone....sigh so here it is, hopefully replacement parts start to pop up soon so i can put a new glass :fingers-crossed: (wheres the brickwall headbash smiley?)
I posted this in another thread but got no response. Has anyone without a case got cracked camera glass? Most seemed to have been in cases in the other thread. Maybe an issue with heat dissipation?
I don't get why they have to have such a large piece of glass with such a small lens?
We don't have Uh Oh in the UK and I don't insure so I'm really worried about this happening to mine.
ive got the same problem after 6 days no insurance and no uh oh protection, but after a bit of searching i found a replacement lens on ebay it seems too cheap to be sapphire glass but in my eyes id prefer something that wont just crack again http://www.ebay.ie/itm/New-Replacem...012?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ffc4ec3c

This advert seems to be for an adhesive (for the lens cover ) not the lens cover .
This company often is a useful source of smartphone spares.
They don't appear to stock many items for M9 currently, maybe range will broaden in time.

If you read the comment from the seller it says " The Lens have the film on it, Please Remove"
so it is indeed the lens and adhesive. it's typical of items from China that the translation is not very accurate.
I have ordered a few lens/adhesive kits for the M8 and they all have worked just fine, I'm sure this one is no different
Cracked glass here, too
Thanks for the eBay link. My husband and I both purchased HTC ONE M9 phones two Fridays ago. His camera lens cover glass/crystal/whatever was cracked straight across horizontally BY ITSELF after we had owned our phones for FOUR DAYS.
HTC and T-Mobile kept passing us back and forth because it was less than 14 days. HTC wanted T-Mobile to fix it, T-Mobile wanted us to use our HTC Uh Oh protection.
In the end, we are being forced to use the Uh-Oh. I'll try that eBay item first, though!
Just notice today that mine is broken also. Don't really want to use my oh uh protection just for that
Did not find a link on the whole WWW
Hello people,
My M9 lens cover cracked also, and I do not think it is because of a hit, as I tend to take care of my stuff. But it did so now I have to replace it.
Bought tools and glass from ebay, all together about £10. You can find it even cheaper. I will replace it on my own as HTC are very stupid with their policy, £30 just for diagnostic (like I do not see the glass being cracked) + repair + parts. It is overly priced.
Does anybody have a link with how to replace this glass from the M9?
If not, do you have to take the back cover off to do this?
Thank you.
Regards.
I got cracked lens cover, I have removed it awaiting New cover from eBay however without lens cover on camera does not focus on distance objects only close up. Could this be ddie to no lens cover or is the camera broken
I replaced my lens from ebay. To remove it I used a hair straitener as a hotplate to loosen the adhesive around 180 deg F
I wore rubber gloves/ and pried the sapphire off of the camera with an exacto knife and or razor blade.
Double checked to make sure I had all of potential glass shards.
I proceeded to take off the back of the new lens and lined it up and from there I now have a perfectly non-cracked lens.
Problems I ran into this. I have had a piece of dust or sand on my camera lens since I cracked it(maybe beach sand?) and always have this unfocused 1mm 'gray' spot. If I had an air compressor I would have made sure to blast my lens with it hoping to remove that spot.
I live my life with a grey spot on ALL of my photos .
But aesthetically it is barely noticeable and my lens is not cracked. I plan to use my Ut Oh protection when I get close to my date.
I searched through 15 pages of topics, didn't find anything on this....But seems to be an issue when you Google it?
My s20 has been getting fuzzier and fuzzier with pics... I even get the dirty lens warning from time to time....Then today, I notices dark "blobs" on my pics of the snow.... Upon further examination, my lenses are really dirty under the back glass?!
I tried blowing air in the mic hole, but nothing changed.
Is there an easy fix for this? I'm taking it to UbreakIfix tomorrow to see what they can do, but figured I'd check here for an easier, non-evasive (cheaper) solution?

I know its been over a year but did find a fix for this I have the same issue on my s20 ultra on the telephoto camera
I took it to UbreakIfix, they ran the SN and it had 3 months left on the warranty, so that covered the fix.
The fix was to actually replace the entire back of the phone (which has the camera window in it).
I still have my S20, keep it as a back up to my new phone.... I pull it out to test apps I'm not sure I want to put on my new phone. It still holds it's own almost 3 years later!

Yes, this was just the glass that covers the camera array.....Which is part of the entire back part of the phone.
