I have been trying to find out a way to flash a rom without a recovery. The things I have tried is dd. Which resulted into a hardbrick. And flashfire. Which didn't work for flashing roms. But other zips like SuperSU worked. My phone is bootloader locked and I can't unlock it using fastboot oem unlock , Is there any other way of flashing the rom. Thanks Chris

As of 12/13/15 I downgraded back to 4.4.2. Flashfire did work but when extracting the system.img from the rom I was flashing and looking at the build.prop I found out the rom was for the D5103 not the D5106..

Something easy is flash your new firmware and use a kernel like "Advanced Stock ICS Kernel" to root and finally reflash your stock kernel if your want its improvements, you can unlock your bootloader anytime, and the best custom room is Cyanogen, it just needs to flash an file in recovery mode.

Hello everyone.. I decided to update officially yesterday and now I just want to get a custom recovery on here so I can flash a i9505 rom.. but when I tried to use odin like usual for recovery flash.. When I boot into recovery it's the stock Samsung one. Is Is the locked bootloader preventing us from simply flashing a recovery? Anybody found a way to get a custom recovery with the latest update? Any help would be great..

My device is rooted and freegee is installed but there's no option for me to unlock my boot loader. It gives me the option to restore or backup few & to install cwm or twrp. If I install the twrp is my boot loader unlocked? & if so can I install a rom. Furthermore can someone explain the lokifying thing?
Thanks
The OGP doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. With Loki, we get around that so we can flash custom kernels which is needed for AOSP ROMs.

OK thanks a lot!! So basically if I have a recovery with Loki support I can flash roms?
Yes. but I would strongly suggest you only flash Roms made for the E980. Many people run into trouble flashing Roms that are meant for the F240's and so on.
hallo... as the title. i hope there is a solution for this problem, i upgraded the bootloader and its knoxed.. but i would to downgrade it to mj5.. to flash rom which is 4.3 jellybean

4.4.2 bootloader can't be downgraded. If you flash older bootloader, you will run into trouble.
If you want to jump back to 4.3, install Mobile Odin and flash the firmware. It flashes everything except the bootloader.
Press thumps up if you found this suggestion helpful.

Mobile Odin works without failure if you follow the procedure correctly.
Stock ROM (tar) and Custom ROM (zip) based on 4.3 bootloader will go into bootloop. There might be a way to get 4.3 custom ROM by flashing img files for 4.3 kernel, modem, etc., without flashing the bootloader. But you will be flirting with danger.
Also, 4.3 custom ROMs lack support these days. The developers have moved to 4.4.2.
It is advisable to stick to 4.3 stock Rom or use 4.4 Custom ROMs.

If I'm on a rooted MM rom (modest rom) with the latest firmware rooted and unlocked.. Can I install a LP rom without losing root and bootloader unlock . Can I simply install a 5.1 or whatever rom?

if it isn't a rooted rom you will loose root although most are rooted and you can just flash super su in twrp to root it. and roms don't write anything to the boot loader unless you are installing a full stock image in Odin. (tldr: yes)
Thanks for the clarification
