3G dongle issue - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi,
I have KLD rk3066 with malayks rom and huawei dongle.
I have disconnection while I am driving (the signal bars are displayed but the 3G sign dissapears).
I tried the script in the faq page, and I also bought powered USB splitter.
I still facing the same issue.
Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks.

May need to look at using a usb powered hub (or similar)

[Q] MHL WiFi

Hello,
I purchased a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and connected them to my google galaxy nexus with aokp_maguro_build-27 with kernel 18.6 fransco.
I have my MHL adaptor plugging into my TV via the HDMI cable. I have my WiFi on trying to stream youtube or browse the web, but it seems the signal strengh of my wifi router has dramatically dropped as soon as the MHL device is plugged in.
Maybe all the power is being concentrated in projecting the image out the phone to the MHL adpator and not leaving enough for the wifi to operate properly.
Does anybody have an idea on whats happening?
What your thinking makes sense. Have you tried leaving the phone in the same place, but unplugging the adapter? Try to eliminate interference from the tv. Try this:
- Start everything a you described to replicate the issue.
- Just turn off the TV and test your wifi
- Just unplug the TV side and test your wifi
- Unplug you're phone side and test
- Move the phone away from the TV and toast
- etc etc
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Same Problem here.
Seems as if wlan won`t work while MHL connected. At least not with AOKP. Itried different Kernels with AOKP. No change.

problem with 3g connection

Hi all
I'm using Joying rk3188 1024p with Huawei E1750 3g dongle.
My headunit is rooted installed stock rom and there is 1 USB starage for music.
When I drive my car and after 30~60 minutes 3g connection lost.
The icon of 3g signal disappear(Triangle shape) and there is no connection before I unplug and re-plug dongle.
I tried call-pppd script and wired external power to USB hub (5v 1A) and there is no luck.
Any comments or simple solutions will help me.
Thanks
Try with another dongle and/or another SIM.

4k fire tv network drop out

Hello all,
I have the latest version of the fire tv (4k version) it's completely as original (just a few apps installed, not sideloaded). The problem in having is that every couple of days (sometimes daily) I lose network connection. I'm running it wired through a powerline adaptor. On the home screen the left side menu is there but in the right it just says something about there being no network. If I go into settings and select restart, it reboots up and everything is fine.
Any ideas anyone?

I don't have an answer for you but I do know that the 4K Fire TV does not play well with some powerline adapters. I had a very similar problem with mine. I was using the WD powerline adapter and the connection speed was always 20 megs slower than my Fire TV 1 which was also connected to a powerline adapter. I also had random connection problems. If you can, connect the Fire TV directly to your router and see if you have the same problem. At least then you can know if it is the powerline adapter. When I connected mine directly to the router all speed and connection problems went away. I couldn't leave it connected to the router but at least I isolated the problem. You may have to try a different brand for your powerline adapter.
Thanks for the reply, it's a bit of a nightmare to confirm as the fault is so intermittent. Interesting though as I've not read about powerline issues with fire tv's before.
The same thing happens to me and i don't have power line, but my FireTv2 is directly connected (via LAN) to the modem-router (FritzBox 3270).
I know that some Powerline Adapter have Standby Problems but you could at least isolate the problem by sending a permanent ping from another device (NAS or something) For TP Link there is an option to deactivate Auto Standby in the Utility Software maybe your device has something similar
I have the same issue on both of my new 4k Fire tv's. I have 2 older Fire tv's and a Fire Stick and none of them have the issue.

I have the same problems with my 4 Fire TV 4k boxes! However, with WLAN.
I was able to fix this by assigning different SSIDs for the two frequencies in my dualband router.
Like this, for instance:
2.4 GHz - Router24
5.0 GHz - Router50
So and now the curious thing: Some of the Fire TV boxes run with 2.4 GHz without connection problems, and have problems when I switch to the 5.0 GHz WLAN! With others, on the other hand, it is exactly the opposite, running at 5.0 error-free, and losing the network sporadically in 2.4 mode. I can only explain this with different WLAN chips built in by Amazon, because it can't be the WLAN signal, I had each of the boxes running directly next to my router in test mode.

Compatible 3G/4G modems

Hello,
The modem that worked 100% of the time in KGL MTCB units, the Huawei E173u-2 doesn't work anymore.
The manufacturer sent us a list of modems that are - to say the least - very exotic in Europe.
Does anybody have a list of compatible modems? What modems do you guys use?
Do MTCD units support 4G/LTE modems or still only 3G?
Make use of an old phone, making wifi hotspot! - works best for me.
No need to buy slow sticks. Blackberry Q5 is very cheap - and LTE 4g wkan-hotspot is in.
Try the "chinese" umts stick for umts/wcdma that are sold within the headunits. these mostly are 7.2mb/s download. not statisfying, is it?
Yep, the UMTS stick is crap. I bought a Huawei E8372 LTE-WiFi-Stick. This one runs much better.
I tried a Huawei 3131H USB stick and it works fine (3G). The connection appears as a mobile 3g regular icon on the head unit. Sometimes the stick connects, but there's no visual feedback on the unit (still works).
Then I switched to a Huawei R216 (modem/wireless router with battery) with 4G, also works fine. The connection appears as "shared via cable" - 2 small overlapping computer icons. It also works seamlessly. You cannot connect the head unit to the modem wifi while connected via USB (makes sense and I don't know if there's any setting to switch from shared cable connection to wifi)
Hotspot with internet connection (from various phones) - works without a hitch and you can do it with an older phone connected to the USB for power, I tried with an old Samsung S3 Mini and it worked.
The Vodafone tech guys said that their stick modems may not be compatible with my setup, because they had people returning them after tying to connect them to tablets via cable. I suspect that's the case for the headunit too, so I didn't risk it - Vodafone Mobile K4607-Z (from ZTE) and Vodafone Connect USB Speed 6 4G (Huawei I think) are the ones in question.
Hope this helps.

Surely this has nothing to do with MCU version and is dependent on the ROM?
Zubie
I bought a Zubie. It plugs in to the OBD2 port and provides wifi to the car through my Verizon account.
In order to still use a bluetooth OBD2 adapter simultaneously, I bought an OBD2 splitter cable off amazon.
I love this setup.
DOES NOT WORK:Telstra Pre-Paid MF823 4G USB (ZTE MF823) (Unlocked via ebay code)
Only works if when initially plugged in, does not work when resumed from standby or swapped from wifi: HUAWEI E122
Also, There is a big difference for applications activity between a "Cellular" data connection and a WIFI connection (Tethered/hotspot). EG. Spotify set to only download on WIFI connection cannot differentiate between your home WIFI connection and a hotspot or Play Store set to update on WIFI only. This can become costly if you're on a small data plan.
Huawei e3372 (4G/LTE) works perfect when updated the MCU (MTCD_KDV1.82_1 Aug 26).
Initially I've tried with MTCD_KDV1.52_1 May 4, but didn't work.
but nevertheless, there's not 3G or LTE icon signal, there's a Network icon (two computers like MsWindows icon) like if it was an ethernet connection.
I've tested and it works at LTE speed. Cool! :good::good:
Only there's only one problem: This network connection is preferent over WiFi, so, to connect to a Wifi Nework i've to unplug the USB dongle. It's impossible to connect to a WiFi when the dongle is connected.
Joying posted a new 4G dongle, but looks like it works more as a wifi hotspot:

100% a hotspot, the unit is simply powering it.

I've actually got the R216 and I can't make it connect via USB at all - just using the wifi connection.
Could I ask what MCU you are running and roughly where you see it in the network settings?
Thanks!

hey, I have the R216 from Vodafone Romania and I just plugged it in in one of the 3 USB ports with a microSD cable (works on any of them, with no special settings) and threw it in the glove box. My unit is a HotAudio MTCD 5.1. As for the MCU, it worked with both the default one from May, and with the updated one from this forum (June, I think). Can't exactly recall the versions, 1.53 and 1.63 I think. The modem works with both cable sharing and hotspot simultaneously. The unit takes the cable connection as a priority from the modem (you can not plug it in the USB, but choose the Wifi from the same device). I also found out that in some ROMs, the cable net speed is vastly superior to the wifi one

Awesome - thanks heaps!
I have Vodafone Australia version, so probably similar. I think I have one of those MCUs and I'm using the June version of @Malaysk's great software.
Will have to check things out further - my unit has this thing where only one of the usb ports is assigned to be used with the modem, and I can't remember which one I plugged my usb webcam into.
Thanks again for responding.

In my unit's printed schematics & cables, the single shorter one is designated for modems (and has a separate port in the back of the unit). I just plugged the modem in the other 2 for curiosity. For HotAudio MTCD i think there are only 2 MCUs anyway, I couldn't find more. ROMs don't seem to matter, I went through 2 factory versions, 2 Malaysk versions and now I use a Xtrons one,no issues. If you can't get it to work, it may be the modem's firmware to blame.
Silly question, what do you guys use for the SIM card? Surely you don't pop it out of your phone and install it in the modem every time you go for a drive?

Separate sim. Here in Australia I am using a sim from Aldi Mobile on the "Pay as you go" plan.
Still waiting to find a working 3G/4G sim modem for the MTCD

need help with 4g usb modem

i have klyde headunit i bought the zte mf833v 4g modem as the manufacturer told me to buy because this is the only 4g modem that will work on my headunit..
i placed the simcard oin the modem and connect it to rear usb port but i dont get any internet connection at all.
i have px5 unit
mtce latest update from klyde..
i dont find in setting any mobile data configuration ( like on mobile phone)
Same issue there :/
I have a Belsee BP3 from Klyde, up to date, and I can't make my Huawei E3276 4G stick work with it.
The manufacturer said that all the 3G/4G sticks are compatible...
The stick lights up and shuts down then powers on then shuts down etc...
I think those head units don't let enough current flow through the USB ports :/
I bypassed the problem by using a WiFi bridge (ie : TP-Link MR-3020) in wich I plug my USB stick...
i dont have you problem with shuts down and on..
the stick stay on and show blue light that mean its cinnected, but i just dont get any 3g/4g simbole on the headunit.
i can find in the setting anything related to mobile data
anyone can help?

Anyone who has a solution to this problem. I don't like to use my phone, just the 4G modem connected
to the Internet. UI HA_PX5_8.0
I'm also struggling with this problem, looking for a USB modem 4g dongle which can be used with PX5 MTCD. Don't want to use a wifi dongle.
On my case only 1 usb (out of 3) was successfully identifying the huawei e8372h-608 but with no connection no matter what i did, including setting the APN
Then I read that disabling wifi should make it work, but no luck with that, can confirm not working.
Tried to contact the seller on aliexpress from where i bought the 4g dongle and he said it will not work with px5 as a modem only
My old zte 3g is recognized and working flawlessly, but its 3g and i dont know why but gives me very slow speeds.
For now i stick with the wifi coming out from the huawei e8372h
I think we can change its behavior with AT commands like they used to do on ZTE dongles, keep in mind its really risky (wrong command can brick it) and youll loose your wifi router (modem/router at a time)
If someone solved that please update
I have kanor mtce gs 2.94_4 px5 4/32 ips dsp unit
