4k fire tv network drop out - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have the latest version of the fire tv (4k version) it's completely as original (just a few apps installed, not sideloaded). The problem in having is that every couple of days (sometimes daily) I lose network connection. I'm running it wired through a powerline adaptor. On the home screen the left side menu is there but in the right it just says something about there being no network. If I go into settings and select restart, it reboots up and everything is fine.
Any ideas anyone?

I don't have an answer for you but I do know that the 4K Fire TV does not play well with some powerline adapters. I had a very similar problem with mine. I was using the WD powerline adapter and the connection speed was always 20 megs slower than my Fire TV 1 which was also connected to a powerline adapter. I also had random connection problems. If you can, connect the Fire TV directly to your router and see if you have the same problem. At least then you can know if it is the powerline adapter. When I connected mine directly to the router all speed and connection problems went away. I couldn't leave it connected to the router but at least I isolated the problem. You may have to try a different brand for your powerline adapter.

Thanks for the reply, it's a bit of a nightmare to confirm as the fault is so intermittent. Interesting though as I've not read about powerline issues with fire tv's before.

The same thing happens to me and i don't have power line, but my FireTv2 is directly connected (via LAN) to the modem-router (FritzBox 3270).

I know that some Powerline Adapter have Standby Problems but you could at least isolate the problem by sending a permanent ping from another device (NAS or something) For TP Link there is an option to deactivate Auto Standby in the Utility Software maybe your device has something similar

I have the same issue on both of my new 4k Fire tv's. I have 2 older Fire tv's and a Fire Stick and none of them have the issue.

I have the same problems with my 4 Fire TV 4k boxes! However, with WLAN.
I was able to fix this by assigning different SSIDs for the two frequencies in my dualband router.
Like this, for instance:
2.4 GHz - Router24
5.0 GHz - Router50
So and now the curious thing: Some of the Fire TV boxes run with 2.4 GHz without connection problems, and have problems when I switch to the 5.0 GHz WLAN! With others, on the other hand, it is exactly the opposite, running at 5.0 error-free, and losing the network sporadically in 2.4 mode. I can only explain this with different WLAN chips built in by Amazon, because it can't be the WLAN signal, I had each of the boxes running directly next to my router in test mode.

[Q] Slow connection speed / Testing connection speed on Fire TV?

Hi!
My connection at home is 100mbit, on both my PCs using wired connection on every Speed Test website I use I get 97-100mbit (Good ).
When surfing through FireFox browser on my Amazon Fire TV (also wired connection to the same router), I get 7-9mbit connection (Not good ).
How is that my fire TV's connection is SOOO slow? The only reason I have 100mbit connection at home is for streaming through the AFTV...
Maybe the speed test value is wrong?
Could it be that this is as fast as the network component on the AFTV can go?
Is there a sure way to test my speed on the device?
Thanks alot! :highfive:
There is also a flaw with Flash Player for Android where speed tests give horrendous results.
I recommend setting up Wi-Fi using a router.
Be careful with OTA blocking if you get one though, unless you are already stuck or disabled the dcp application through ADB rooted.
My speed is "okay" with Charter through Wi-Fi.
If you are fairly close to the room where it will be hooked up,you should be more than fine.

First of all, my WiFi router is right next to the AFTV (20-30cm), so it's not a problem.
Let me know if I understand correctly, WiFi will benefit better speed than wired connection? Seems very odd...
If the bug is indeed in the Flash Player, where can I check max download speed (for a file for instance)? Not a flash based Speed Test...
I got updates blocked through ADB (to never loose root) from amazon if that's what you mean (on the Fire TV itself, not the router)...
Just tried this app,and it runs perfectly and even has an HD quality interface.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest
Just "evozi" or "apk leecher" it.
I got with Wi-Fi 37Mb (megabits=one 8th of a megabyte) out of 60Mb in a large distance away from my router,so it is working properly.
I have Charter's 60Mb speed plan.
You should get crazy good results at the short distance from your router.
Stupid question... Have you tried using speeedtest.net app on your firetv to check the speed?
If you are referring to the ookla speedtest app, then I already have tried it,and said it works perfectly fine.
@Gaiosan Hi I am running on 300mbit down/upstream, I can able exceed 100mbps on my FireTV both Ethernet and wireless. Maybe your router isn't good or bad connection somewhere in your provider network. Who knows.
Maybe the ethernet cord is bad?
Or your router could be dying like mine did, which got replaced by an identical model to regain access.
And what test are you using to test for the connection? web-flash-based? or App?
EDIT:
I have downloaded the Ookla Speed test apk, getting about 70mb out of 100mb, so I guess this can be closed, Thanks for everyone that helped
Resurrecting....how are you working the speedtest.net app on the Fire TV? I did successfully sideload, but cannot click "begin test" when I open the app on the Fire TV.

There is a mouse app for Fire TV called Mouse Toggle For Fire TV. You install the app and double click the play button on the remote to give you a mouse. Tap play once to restore remote function I believe. Works really well.
You need a mouse or equivalent to be able to press the button.

Like many other apps, you need to a mouse or a keyboard with trackpad. You could also buy mouse toggle which turns your remote into a mouse with basic click and scroll functionality.

AirPlay compatible app for FireTV?

Hello,
I started using Reflector to mirror my iPad's screen to my FireTV stick. It works well, initially, but then starts to lag. I have to disconnect and reconnect it after a bit to get the screen updates on the TV to flow smoothly again.
Thinking it was the FireTV stick, I tried it on my FireTV. The same thing happens.
Is there a better AirPlay app I can load onto my FireTV that will work better than Reflector? The iPad is on a 5GHz network and the FireTV is hard-wired to a switch. Interference or wireless speed shouldn't be an issue.

Rooted Fire TV 2 buffering issues

Hi all,
I am rooted on version 5.0.4 and I seem to be having a lot of issues with video buffering. no matter what app I use whether Kodi, Prime Video, or streaming from my NAS drive the video seems to buffer a lot. Even from the NAS drive it seems to stop for a second or two on every movie no matter what the format is. Not sure if it has to do with the fact that Fire TV 2 is connected to a powerline adapter. Even though the Fire TV 2 internet speed test is much lower on the powerline adapter than it is connected direct to the router I still get speeds of 16 mbps. I am wondering if it is actually an issue with certain apps on lollipop. Anyone else having weird streaming issues. Also it was the same when I was on rooted 5.0.3.1
Any hints to what it might be would be appreciated. I was hoping streaming would be improved on the Fire TV 2 because of the new hardware specs, but my Fire TV 1 blows it away.
Edit: Did some further tests and it seems this Fire TV 2 does not like the powerline adapter. Connected directly to my router and internet speed tested at 51 mbps which is what it should be. Also tested a few movies and no stuttering or buffering??? weird.

I have a problem with my Fire TV Stick 2 not connecting to wifi at all and bluetooth

I have tried several ways to connect to wifi and none of the networks even show up. Bluetooth works like normal but it won't even pair my Fire TV remote. I've tried about 5 remotes with new batteries and nothing. The blue light doesn't even show up on them, I took apart the Fire TV Stick to see what was causing the problem and nothing is shorted out at all. I may consider buying a new Fire TV Stick due to this one being defective.

Just curious, have you tried the 5 remotes also with the cm12.1 rom for tank?
Yep
Yep I did, and it still won't respond to anything.... Adb works still, just unable to resolve this issue..... I recently wiped /system, /data, etc in TWRP and I flashed the 12.1 rom next thing I noticed issues with wifi and bluetooth both on my backup of my firestick with everything unmodified, still has the same issue for some reason like the 12.1 rom. It may be something outside of the /system. I deleted the wpa file located under wifi and that didn't work.
Ok I looked at /
I looked at / and noticed it didn't have the file ini.wifi.rc and other files. I have no clue if this is what's causing the problem

Android TV VPN Issue

Hey all, just got a new cheap tv for the spare room, wanted android and nothing too expensive so we picked up a Kogan android tv for $500AUD. Im trying to connect a vpn to it so i can use hulu on the tv like i do on my PC and yet every time i connect a VPN the tv instantly loses all connection and you need to reboot the TV to regain an internet connection, simply disconnecting the vpn dossnt fix this. I have tried 3 vpns, express, pia and nord, with every connection variant and protocol and every time get the same result, is this fixable at all? Whats going on?
Should mention the tv is running ATV 9
I have also a same tv model and I am using a pure vpn on it. It works fone on my tv and didn't face any sort of issue yet. I think you can try this one. https://www.purevpn.com/download/android-tv-vpn
