Just lost speaker.. Anyone? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey all, I have a i317 that I have been running on slim fast 4.4 very happy last 2 years. Yesterday I lost the speaker in the phone.
Now it could be hardware, but I have reasons to believe it's not.
Tone picker stopped working and if I do a restore it does work again but has lost all my tone settings.
I have run all tests I could think of. Headphones work, Mic works, earpiece works but no matter what I try I cannot get any sound from speaker.
Should I try and return the phone to factory ROM before taking it to see about a hardware repair??
I own this phone I am not on a plan, so not sure if a repair is worth it.

Just to keep anyone who was reading informed. I have sent it off to get the loud speaker repaired. Quoted $60. Hopefully that works.
I did restore the phone back to the most recient stock.. and in case anyone was interested that did not reset my LOCK CARRIER OR THE AWS mod.

It's the hardware. Unroot the phone if needed and take it to Sprint. They will "look" at it and order a new one if you have insurance. I'm currently waiting for my new one cause of the same issue plus half a dozen more. Tired of being the Tool on the bluetooth just to use my phone normally. I know it has nothing to do with the software because the repair tech tried to 'Odin' it and reinstall everything OTW. This seems to be a common accurance when rooting. I can't be sure in my case cause my phone fell out of my pocket bounced off the concrete and into a pool. I noticed all the problems after that happened. Good luck

Need help... speaker issue

So here is the deal. About a month ago my speaker stopped working on my gnex. I searched all over Google and found a headphone jack issue so I tried it but realized that was not the issue. I have flashed a few ROMs in between and haven't had any luck (thought maybe a ROM was causing the problem but no). Last night I loaded up a game on the phone and BAM, sound again (phone ringer and notifications). I was so excited. This morning I used ROM toolbox to batch install 3 apps and data (Apex, Apex unlocker and autorap), and then to my disappointment, no more sound. I uninstalled the 3 apps and rebooted the phone but no use. Now that I have given a round about idea of the issue, my question is "does anyone know or think this may be a software issue and can I go into root explorer and do something?" I have geek squad warranty but my laptop is broke and I can't unroot the phone to bring back to get fixed yet. Just thought I would ask before I fully give up and just deal until I can warranty it out.
1.) Was your volume always loud?
2.) Did at anytime it get near water, drenched in sweat?
Just sounds like the speaker blew honestly

That's what I thought for sure that is was blown but why would it have work last night and not had any static or sound fuzzy. Just doesn't make any sense. I think its hardware or software.

Loose wire/connection?
Don't see how it could hardware or software related..
It is odd though.

[Q] Mic issues on calls, any ideas?

I received a T989 as an insurance replacement for my old T959 Vibrant. I love this phone.
However, it seems that no matter what firmware I run, I have microphone issues. I have tried noise suppression on and off for every rom I have tried.
I have found that if I hold the phone right up to my mouth, it will sound fine for the person on the other end of the call, but by doing this, I have the earpiece further away from my ear, and it is hard for me to hear the other person on the call.
I got lucky a on a few roms where it seemed like the issue went away, but as I updated, it would resurface. Going back to roms that have worked before result in the issue as well. I suppose that if I had it working fine, I should have left it alone, but the call to flash is too great to resist.
While using the speakerphone, the mic works perfectly and picks up what I am saying crystal clear, although my wife sometimes complains of an echo, but that is most likely due to the location of the noise suppression mic on the top of the phone that is so close to the earpiece speaker. Why would the phone mic work great on speakerphone but like crap on normal calls?
Is there a way to increase the sensitivity of the normal mic while using the phone for normal calls? Would it somehow be possible to switch the profile mode of the mic to think it is on speakerphone when it really isn't? Is this more of a hardware issue than a rom/kernel problem?
Should I just call up asurian and ***** about it and have them replace it? I have only had it since the beginning of August, but I think they only give you a 30 day warranty on the replacement that they send out. I really don't want to have to shell out any more cash to replace it again, especially if it is going to cost another $130.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for any and all help.
Nevermind.
It turns out the warranty for the replacement is longer than I thought, so I am getting it exchanged. The only catch is that since it has been over 30 days since the original exchange, there is a $5 warranty fee, but that isn't too bad.
Surprisingly, the rep said that the manufacturer has not listed this issue as a defect...funny, considering there are plenty of people on this board who would disagree.

wow, there aren't not too many okies around here that don't like the Thunder. I'm from chicago and have lived here for 3 years and I like them (even if the Bulls are the team I grew up with). I was spoiled during the Jordan era.

Extremely low volume after upgrading to 4.2.2. How can I go back to 4.1.1?

Hi,
I was on 4.1.1 and the speaker volume was very low but on the earphones it was good.
I upgraded to 4.2.2 and it has gone extremely low on the speaker and much lower on the earphones, plus the equalizer app is not as noticeable anymore.
Seriously, the speaker volume now is just inaudible, just a whisper. I can't hear anything on it (calls, music, videos...). Nothing. The phone is usless like this.
HTC told me to send it while it is under guarantee, but they can decide that I damaged it myself and not repair it.
So, first, I'd like to go back to 4.1.1. How can I do i? Resetting to factory settings is useless, the problem persists andI'm still on 4.2.2-
Any advice?
Thanks

Dude,
I thinks your speaker is damaged!
Because HTC One x volum on sense 5 is very good and louder!
Regards from Brasil
Thanks for your help guys.
I think it is everything. It is an old phone and it's dirty, so certainly the microholes of the speaker must be clogged with dirt. At the same time the speaker must be defective because it is extreeemly low and it is a very common problem for many owners. And finally, what I know for sure is that yesterday the sound on the earphones was excellent and today is low and poor, while it is dead onthe speakers, and that is caused by the 4.2.2. upgrade.
In these spanish forums other people are reporting the same after upgrading. http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=688211, so it's not only me.
So, what I'd like first of all is to know if it's possible to go back to 4.1.1, but still I will send it to HTC for repair on Monday.
About cleaning the holes with a toothbrush, I already tried with normal toothbrush and nothing changed. I read that some people are opening it and cleaning from inside with some specially thin brush, but I can't void the guarantee by opening it.
Thanks again. If you know if I can go back to 4.1.1 that is my main concern now.
Hi. Try this.
I understand the volume on 4.2.2 Sense 5 is a lot low. Get Viper4Android app and install it and do the settings as you would like. It works wonderfully on 4.2.2 Sense 5.

I can't root it by now, I need to keep the guarantee. If HTC fails to repair it, then I will try Viper4Android.
Thanks anyway.
Still, I'd like to know if it's possible to go back to 4.1.1. Nobody seems to know.
You can go back to 4.1.1 but you need to unlock you boot loader and flash a custom recovery and a custom 4.1.1 ROM. Sorry but no other way.

Oh I see. Then I better wait to see what HTC can do with the volume and then I will decide if rooting and using ROMs.
Thanks a lot.
Actually, on the earphones it's still great sound and the equalizer app works fine. I was doing something wrong. It's just the speaker which is low.
Thanks to everyone.
Update: I sent it to HTC and they fixed it fast and free of charge as it is under guarantee. Now it sounds very well, loud. In the report paper they say that they changed the software but not any hardware was replaced. I stil have 4.2.2, so I don't know what they changed. Maybe they just opened and cleaned the speaker inside.

thanks
the prigram owrked great.
Not sure why her volume had decreased so much, but then it might of been after an upgrade overall? but
Viper4Android worked like a charm :good:

[Q] People Can’t hear owner when in a call

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 about a month ago. Last week I began having a problem with the phone. When a call comes in, whether I make it or if its incoming, I can hear the person on the other end fine but they can’t hear me. I turned the volume all the way up and that hasn’t worked. It is not the area I’m in, because it has happened in different areas.
Do you have any solutions to this?
Wifi calling? Are you rooted and non stock?

I had the same issue. I was never able to fixed or the tmobile store. We change the mic several times and nothing. So I got an ear blue tooth and forgot about it. If you put it on Speaker works perfectly.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I had an issue that was similar, but not the same. When I was at home on wifi and answered calls, I could hear the caller but they couldn't hear me (said there was weird squeaking noise or something). Answering calls when not on wifi gave me no issues, but my apartment is a total dead-zone so I really need wifi calling.
I just fixed it today actually by doing two things: turning OFF power saving mode, and turning off the voice control that deals with answering calls and such. I'm not sure if just one or both of those steps were necessary, but wow, F power saving mode! I thought my phone was pretty fast before, but w/ power saving mode off it just absolutely blazes. I've had pretty awesome battery life on 4.3 Tweaked ROM w/ Saber kernel, so I don't think I'll mind a battery hit in exchange for the ridiculous performance I'm seeing.
Back to your problem, I've heard of people solving issues by cleaning the microphone with a toothpick or something. Are you able to use the mic for voice recording or voice commands or anything? If you're having a hardware problem with the mic, an exchange might be necessary.

If it's a hardware defect, you could get a replacement for that.
