"Mobile radio active" bug on GPE 5.1 and 6.0 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to get a sense of what is causing this. Whenever I'm on LTE (doesn't happen on WiFi), Google Play Services ends up being the highest battery usage app with a lot of time recorded in the "Mobile radio active" measure on the battery use details. I realize that this has been documented... I'm still not sure exactly how much it affects actual battery life vs. what is reported. But at least in my case it does seem to be having a negative overall impact.
I have this problem on every GPE 5.1 and 6.0 ROM I've tried.
This is after a couple weeks trying to let usage stabilize, and a couple factory resets to try and remove variables.
The only thing I haven't tried is updating to a newer GPE firmware - I'm currently running the Sense 5.0 firmware. This is on an international GSM M8.
So do you have this issue - what phone model / firmware are you running?

can you try downgrading google plays services to an earlier version see if it gets rid of it?

Have you tried the xposed module? Sorry I don't have a link but if you have xposed installed you can search the downloads section. It might be in there otherwise search xda for mobile radio active xposed.
Edit: Never mind, I don't think that module had been updated for MM. It made my phone bootloop.

I did try that Xposed module on 5.1, and it didn't seem to help.
Also this affects all apps, not just Play Services. The "bug" is pretty well detailed in these Android issues:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=165558 (LP / MM)
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=190396 (MM specifically)
Seems like not all M8 GPE users are experiencing it though, so I'm not sure where the problem is exactly.

As far as I know and what I've read says that newer firmware works generally with older versions but running old and incorrect firmware is a recipe for radio problems.
You should definitely update to the latest GPE edition firmware available or if running Sense based ROM, use the sense firmware.

Were you able to resolve this issue? If yes, then how?
Much appreciate
Resolved: Downloaded latest Viper ROM 4.3.0 but that did not work and niether ARHD(not compatible with Verizon M8) So the issue was latest Viper ROM 4.3.0 doesn't give you an option to choose carrier(Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile etc.) in Aroma, Viper has released a separate DL for Verizon M8. I learnt the hard way(downloading and flashing several ROMs) that any ROM that gives an option to choose carrier in Aroma during installation would enable the Automatic option in Phone Info Settings/Phone Testing App/ 4G Switcher App / Network app. So earlier version of Viper ROM probably 4.4.4 would have worked. A single Custom ROM download that supports Multiple Carriers is the solution missing Radio Band issue..
I downloaded GPE 5.0.1 on my 5.0.1 Stock Firmware to get my lost signal, relief !!
Careful, do not go for 5.1, GPE gives an option to upgrade your firmware and install Lollipop 5.1 , i tried and it didn't work but Firmware and ROM 5.0.1 work like a charm. Probably the 5.1 GPE variant(as on today, 12/06/15) has something to do with the boot.img file, after flasing it when tried to open phone info settings it kept giving error "unexpectedly com.android.phone has stopped."
Hope this comes handy to guyz who get into same mess as I did
Cheers!!

What is the best possible way to update a LG Optimus G Pro F240L to Lollipop?

Hi everybody,
I am a new member here. I am from India.
First off, I admit that I know nothing about custom ROM and flashing (You can call me an idiot)
I have been using a LG Optimus G Pro F240L (Rooted and Unlocked) for past 1 & Half years.. I want to update it with Lollipop in the best and safest possible way. ..and I want LG's stock features too (Stock android apps are not that great. For example, dialer, contacts, messenger, alarm clock are far better in LG's stock apps). Some people say to use LG's stock Lollipop ROM ......while some say to use a ROM based on LG's Stock ROM. I don't know what's the difference among the two.
Detailed description About My Phone
Phone Type: It came as Rooted and Unlocked. I want to upgrade it from Jellybean (4.1.2) to Lollipop
My Location: India
GSM network being used: Vodafone India
I am not allowed to post external link as I am a new member here. So I can't upload screenshots to make it more understandable with my phone's specifications. Please tell me your email address and I will send them.
After you're done checking out all those screenshots, please guide me through a step-by-step process. I don't want to get screwed
A whole lot of thanks that you gave it some of your precious time
You could try flashing the Lollipop KDZ using the LG Flash Tool like I did. I should warn you, though. Lollipop can't be rooted.

Nobody ?
Nobody there to help me? :crying:
Thanks that you replied. I have a few questions.

Thanks that you replied. I have a few questions.
Is it for any LG G Pro F240L? I thought factors like "CPU version" and all are also to be taken into account to locate a suitable ROM.
Will that work in Indian basebands after update? I mean, do I have to encounter any signal drop out in Indian network?
What about the UI and apps in this update? Did you get LG's stock apps? Or its just stock android Lollipop version?
What did you mean when you said "Lollipop can't be rooted"? Did you mean any phone running a lollipop version of android can't be rooted at all? OR, it's the issue with this Lollipop ROM only?
How is the experience after this update? Anything bad happened so far? How is battery backup?
Can you please give me your mail ID so I can send you some screenshots? I think you can guide me better if you see them.

1. Just download kdz file for F240L.
2. It should work in India.
3. You will have all LG's apps and also many korean apps.
4. Some users said it could be rooted. Just try kingroot, iroot, vroot,...( I haven't tested on my F240L)
5. The battery life is average, about 3h30' -4h on-screen, not as good as kitkat.

1. I don't think it matters, I have the F240L myself, flashed the respective KDZ and the process went smoothly.
2. I'm pretty sure the network signals will stay the same for the most part. I'm from Pakistan and although I could make calls when I wanted, the signals were a bit inconsistent, as in, it would show no signals on rare occasion. Never had this problem with Kitkat.
3. Pretty much what irt118's post said. All the LG apps from the previous version stay, although updated with the nice new Material Design that makes it more appealing to look at and more satisfying to touch. Lots of Korean bloatware and pop-ups like on any previous ROM for this phone.
4. I should have clarified, only this Lollipop ROM can't be rooted. I've tried most of the mentioned methods (One-Click-Root, Kingo Root, KingRoot etc.) only to see that they had failed.
5. The update is in no way a shoddy one, however, it does have its flaws. My number one complain would be that there's no root method for it, ergo, all the Korean pop-ups and apps just jump in your face from time to time. Other than that, it's a bit slower than Kitkat, you just don't get the same smooth experience, the games see a few drop in frames, nothing horrible or too noticeable. It also heats up pretty quickly now. The battery drained very fast when I first updated it, but removing some of the bloatware and using Battery Doctor really changed the battery timing, in fact, this was the least of my bothers.
I'll add that everything else works the same, Wifi, NFC, Bluetooth and the like. The system apps have a very pleasing look to them and some apps also get better functionality. I'd really recommend not upgrading to this if your first priority is rooting the device. Upgrading to Kitkat would prove to be better in the end.

It sounds like "an update in looks at the cost of performance". No I am not going to make my life miserable. Three of your points made my decision. Dimag ki batti jala di aap ne bhai. Salaam and thanks a lot
Is there any better version of it? Or has anybody else come up with anything which doesn't have these drawbacks?
Hi, Im An Lg GPro F240l user from Pakistan, I updated my OS from stock kitkat to stock lollipop and I have successfully rooted my phone through Kingroot PC software, since then my wifi sucks, it will drop after some minutes randomly, specially during video streaming or skype calls, then it will reconnect after 10-20 seconds, secondly wifi speed will suddenly decrease, e.g: it will show a download speed of 10-20 kbps while my other phones will show 500-800 kbps,so clearly lollipop update has done something strange with wifi, Any solution? Anyone?
Second thing Im struggling at is, doing CWM recovery, i tried a lot of things, used Freegee, Used CWM recovery. Apk, but i didn't get success, and i think lollipop update locked the bootloader, so my question is, Can anyone tell me a step by step method of how to do custom recovery on LG G pro F240l with a locked bootloader.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Stock Lollipop for Tab 3 8.0 Wi-Fi

Hey guys. Sorry if this question has been asked a few times, but is there a stock rooted Lollipop ROM available for the Tab 3 8.0 Wi-Fi? I've tried searching the Internet and thought I found a couple of leads, but they turned out to be infested with malware, which resulted in me having to uninstall some randomly installed programs along with other steps to remedy the situation. My main purpose for wanting to install Lollipop is to improve the performance of my tablet, as it has a tendency to get a bit laggy. Thanks in advance.
Not that I am aware of. Depending on your region, the highest Stock Android version was 4.4.2.

What's your settings? ^-^ Please respond A.S.A.P!

Hi there and thank you for checking this thread out, Alrighty let's get started.
So, I own the Sprint G920P Samsung S6 Phone and since i've been used to the stock version of the rom with hardly any tweaks i took a huge step into rooting it and losing KNOX.
Which wasn't entirely a big deal to me and so i took even more procedures to boost it furthermore into this nice tweaking world of Custom Settings.
So, i'd like to know what are your best settings to make this phone become its top notch self.
I have a few Things running on my device and i'd like a comparison or if you might have any suggestions or tips that i could probably end up using. ^-^ anything helps.
--My specs ---
Correct me if i may be wrong or if i am in need of an updated version for this Rom i'm running or the settings, i have pre downloaded.
I'm currently running on G920P
OL1 Rom ( basically stock then to become) (rooted)
I'm also running Twrp 2.8.7.0
BETA SuperSU 2.67
used CF-Auto-Root-zerofltespr-zerofltespr-smg920p.tar to continue with i, everyting works fine
and then commenced flashing the hacker-kernel-SM-G920P-V12-su_266
but i have no idea what tweaks to do for the kernel considering , im still a n00b to that part or aspect but i have the basics of flashing and installing drivers running some twrp stuff.
i also have XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4
with this only working flashed file that worked for me
xposed-v75-sdk22-tw-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20151008
i used Xposed for Snapchat, Youtubes Adaway and Xinstaller for apps
My configuration.
Snapchat -
9.17.1.0
Xposed -
75 wanam 20151008 - seems to work best for me on both roms instead of v79.
Snapprefs -
1.6.2
is there anything i could do to upgrade or change the following? i use my phone mostly for listening to music, streaming videos and taking pictures or videos in 1080p60 or uhd with the cinema 4k app every now and then and my battery drains fast.

Recommend a not laggy ROM for HTC One M8 Harman/Kardon edition

Hello, I want to switch my phones OS from ViperOneM8 to a Nougat ROM, but i had a bad experience previous months with it. As i searched, I've found Ressurection Remix and Xeno HD, both of them running on Android N, but they were laggy and had issues with the SD Card - It was instantly injected and ejected. And i want to know, if there are some decent Android N ROMs for this model of One M8, or maybe the previous roms which I talked about have got better and thes issues diaspeared?
LineageOS seems to be the best IMHO.

That's interesting. I have also test drove all the latest current Ron's we have and it ended up being the best with my setup.
As we all know, performance is going to vary widely depending on what apps you have installed etc etc, so I'm telling you this for no other reason than to say that it's not junk across the board at least for me. It may have to do with your setup because the ROM itself out performs the others in my situation. Good luck and take care!!

Ok I'll try it one more time , but it can also be the problem that, maybe they do the custom rom only for original m8 not also H/K version. I know that it is a nonsense, but maybe. BTW what should I install Nightly or regular version, and should I get GAPPS or there are already installed GAPPS ?
I have installed Ressurection Remix 5.8.5, and i managed to run it well, but i have a little problem , apps which need internet connection crash after a little time from starting them. /they seem to start, showing a black screen, after what the system returns a message where is written that the app is not responding. whta can be done?
Resurrection Remix has no lagging problems
