Is the fourms dead? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

These past few post are really nothing new. There hasn't been any bootloader unlock yet and the tweakbox theme isn't even being cared about. Is there at least any update on the g4 bootloader unlock? I'm really regretting this phone.

autoprime said recently they're still trying. Honestly I don't blame them if they can't get anything, LG have been stingy about the booltloader even though they said they'd support it officially... LG pulled a bait and switch.

We have all moved to the V10.

T-Mobile stance on rooted phones?

Food for thought. As a part of the "T-Mobile My Account" app is a device health (beta) page that will scan the phone for various settings. If you tap on either the "Battery state" or "Device performance" and look for a box that says "Show all test" being rooted is among the list. When I read over the various warranties and agreements, I was looking specifically for anything about root, rooting, rooted, "" access. The best I found only mentions that issues caused by 3rd party software are not covered.
Seeing this makes me wonder if T-Mobile as part of its "un-carrier" move may be opening up to the idea.

This is why I don't understand people's hate towards Samsung's Knox when they trip it due to rooting and custom TOM's.
-Sent from my TMO LG G3 using Tapatalk
Cause on an HTC or nexus device you can completely go back to stock and have no evidence of rooting. With Knox, you're screwed. There's no resetting it. I don't know how LG works, this is my first LG device

Just out of curiosity, what is T-Mobile's stance? I'm very new to TMo. So new, I switched/ordered my phone on Tuesday and due to a "Systems Issue" I don't even believe my phone has been shipped yet.

Honestly, if you return to stock (completely) and then go in for warranty, you should be okay. The official stance is no, but I know that 99 times out of 100 you're not gonna have an issue. Unless it's blatantly obvious that you caused your issue by messing with your phone. If you ever need anything when dealing with Tmobile feel free to pm me on here. That goes for anyone who reads this.

Yup, and things like this happen where reps are completely oblivious. It's not uncommon.
I only said what I did because I know quite a few managers from the bay area to Sacramento, and a good portion of them are into rooting phones and train their staff (not cause they want to screw you over, just to make sure that they retain their job) to look for it.
So yeah, you'll probably be fine if you don't unroot your phone, but an extra 10 minutes of work won't hurt you.

I usually get my best results by going into the store and being a real jerk, swear at the counter people, call them names then tell them you rooted the phone and now there are some issues....
JK,,, dont do that.
If you are nice and act dumb they will help you.
Hmm, I don't even HAVE a store around here, I'd be dealing with whoever is at the other end of the shipping tag.

thats very nice of you to offer that:good:
I agree with your comments; I have rooted every phone I have had over the years with ATT/Sprint/TMO, and NEVER "restored to stock" ANY of the phones I turned in for upgrade/repair/etc, and never once had an issue with ANY carrier.
If you act like a jerk, and hassle the store personnel, you will always have a problem; if you are polite, professional, and dont try to blame someone else for your problem, 99% of the time, you wont have a problem turning in a rooted phone.
Treat people like YOU want to be treated, and you will always be taken care of; at least that's always been my experience..
I have always just unrooted before I went in. Some times I have watched them check the phone and worried if they would try to update it. That was the case with both my HTC Evo 4g and Samsung Galaxy S3 with Sprint. I was trying to avoid the hboot 1.5 and KNOX updates. Only issue I had was when my mms stopped working. Even unrooted the stock messenger wouldn't send them. I was asked if it was rooted and was hoping the unroot file worked. Ever time the phones have finished as I was parking in the lot so I never really had a chance to make sure it was all back to stock.
When I picked up the G3 and changed to T-Mobile I asked and was told unroot it. If no one knows it was rooted then you're good.

yeah, its so easy to unroot a phone, and if they do a quick check to see if its rooted, and they dont see that it is, they never go any further..

I have had to over the years exchange a few phones with t-mobile, been with them going on 8 years with 5 lines. I always unroot and set back to stock with that said tho, I had to exchange a note 3 for non working GPS and although I did set it back to stock I obviously couldn't reset the knox counter. So far, haven't heard anything about it and that was almost a month ago. While I have no official comment, I do believe t-mobile doesn't care so long as the issue is not related to anything you have done.
I want the g3, but am waiting for root. Just don't care for phones I can't restore to, uninstall unneeded apps etc.
i went on store at LG G3 launch and i showed my note 3 to swap with G3. via JUMP
my phone is rooted, i even teased the girl representative that i have the coolest ROM on it lol. she just smiled and check the note 3 physically. i even let her do a factory reset on the note 3. few mins later i have the black G3 on my possession
I'm not sure what the big deal is. If we can flash a stock ROM onto a phone I'm sure they can, probably easier than we can. It's the hardware condition that really matters.

[Q] Noob questions about rooting for this phone

1) Is this phone likely to get root soon after release? Just based on LG history or whatever is known about the phone so far.
2) Does being on Verizon usually mean waiting longer or not getting root access at all? If Verizon-rooted phones are rare, please let me know some good alternatives.
Thanks all for putting up with me.

Im sure there will be root. but it will take a while, and i dont see anybody posting on the dev section talking about root. so probobly in afew months, once they read the source of the OS, and figure out how to make root.
Im from big red, and they always lock there bootloaders. so thats alittle more work and codeing which turns into abit more waiting time if you want custom roms. but G4 seems like a pretty popular phone, so im sure root will come eventually

This phone hasn't been fully released yet. It will def get root. I'd give it a month or so.
I have Verizon and the G3 was unlocked within 3 months. I'm hoping since this is Qualcomm's first hexa-core, there'll be some exploits to gain root/unlock BL faster. Take it from a Sammy guy, WAIT THE FEW MONTHS. Samsung hasn't seen an unlocked BL for Verizon in 2 years.

yep, probably gonna pull the trigger on the att g4 with their nasty corporate locked BL crap. I'd normally be concerned about root, but in this case I'm not terribly worried, because this phone will have SO much attention in the dev community. now, getting the att BL unlocked to run twrp... that's another story and could be a very long time if at all (just for the att version).

Which is the best Rooting website?

So I tried rooting my lg g4 (h811) the XDADEVELOPERS METHOD and i hard bricked it, i reported it stolen and got myself a new one, i still want to root my device but i dont want the same thing to happen again..so my question is, is there like a trusted websitw where i can pay so it roots my device? There are no other root methods and possibly won't be any more. Of I'm correct there's only a recovery for one variant and if it's not your model I honestly wouldn't risk it. There is OneClickRoot .com where you connect with a technician live online and they root it with that method remotely and its 40 bux I believe but, you have a 100% guaranteed if no success which they will succeed, you don't pay, and if something goes wrong they replace your phone. They have been around a few years and I see nothing but good comments about them and talked to several g4 owners who did it. I desperately want root on mine but I'm not attempting that delicate **** with my bad luck lol and there's not much dev for it cuz of the locked boot loader right now, hence no custom rims so I'm considering claiming mine lost ad forking 40 bux which is worth it for me

You have the T Mobile variant, why don't you just unlock the bootloader officially, install TWRP, the install SuperSU zip file and root that way?

Because honestly, i have no idea how to do all that, i dont even know what any of those things mean, im new at all this and only reason i want to root my device is to upgrade roms and hack games, i think my best option is paying money so i can get it done, because obviously doing it by myself wasnt such a good idea..if you could explain and guide me through the process i could try it, i just dont want to make the same mistake and hard brick my device again..thanks..

Yes These guys are absolutely right you need to go do some serious research and completely forget rootin a g4 if your not a fly advanced user. I started when I found a lil Samsung Galaxy centura on the side of the road out walking one day and I got lucky it was a very simple root. Really what is absolutely crucial is that custom recovery which I learned the hard way, I still have a gpad 10.1 brand new in my drawer that won't go past the boot, fastboot, and stock recovery and I dont have a PC and I haven't had experience using a PC in many years lol but I got as far as possible without one and being able to flash a different roM depending on my mood and easily laugh at a brick or bootloop while stepping over it is a great feeling I recommend highly. But your not quite ready yet especially for a tricky ***** like the g4, Hell Im not ready for it nor can afford it lol I give that lil L70 utter hell though and learn every day… since you have an unlockable BL (soooo jealous lol jk) you have more options but trust me find an old phone and practice all you can first ..good luck and have fun expanding your mind man[emoji6] [emoji4]
Oh and if you need any help you can private message me and ilk do my best. If I can't answer something I know some guys who can
Oh yeah (again lol) it all may seem complicated at first but you hit a point where it will all just click and fall into place like flipping a switch and then be amazed that everything actually works the way it does, it's just getting to that threshold that is the tricky part
Through my ancient eyes comes the certainty of decay... LG G4 & L 70
From my experience, initially you may get confused about all terms like root, bootloader, recovery, 3 wipes, Supersu, etc but when you find a post teaching you how to root or install recovery, you need to make sure you download the correct image/file for your phone model! But most importantly you need to know how to rescue by yourself if anything go wrong first. DOWLOAD CORRECT KDZ AND IMG BEFOREHAND for pre-cautionary measure. Well known about the steps how to hard reset to restore to factory image.
All in all, I was not studied IT but rooting and installing recovery is a skill facilitating my phone experience! Have fun on it!!

Upgrading from rooted/rommed G3 to G4, but don't want to activate G4. Possible?

Advice Please:
I have a G3 with PacMan ROM and it's freaking sweet. However, my infrared/camera (which I use hundreds of times/day for work) is not working when I shoot certain types of materials (works on leather, blurs on cloth now). I was planning on just waiting to get the G4 when more ROMs were out. However, now I'm rushed to pull the trigger. So here's my question:
I want to not activate my new G4, but use it for work over wi-fi and continue to use my G3 for everything else (calls/texts). Since I had to order my G4 to get more GB, the Verizon rep is telling me that I can have the G4 and keep my service on the G3. However, they will need to 1) Activate the G4/Deactivate G3, 2) Deactivate G4/Reactivate G3. Will I have any problems reactivating my G3 since it's rooted and ROMmed? Will this cause any problems with Verizon? Will they even notice?
Also, If I'm able to do this... Can I go ahead and root/Rom the inactivated G4 and activate it once a satisfactory ROM is out (and installed on it)?
I know this is complex and doesn't do many people much good, so MANY THANKS to whoever lends a hand!!!!!
I hate being in this predicament... If only we lived in a world where all the ROMs were available to all carriers within the first month of release... if only... LOL

Yes, you can activate the G4 and go back to the G3, even with root. When you activate the G4 make sure you go through the setup process before you pull the Sim and install the Sim back into the g3. Wifi will work on the G4 without the Sim at that point. Done it many times.

Thanks so much for the help!
To push it a step further... Could I Root/Rom the new G4, and then return it back to Verizon in my 2 week trial period without any alarms going off? Would I just need to un-root and flash stock Rom before returning?
The guys at the Verizon store are so oblivious to android development that I wouldn't be surprised if they took a rommed and rooted G4 back without realizing it!
Unfortunately I don't think we have any roms for our verizon g4 and most likely will never have more than stock based unless someone unlocks the boot loader or comes up with another bump and I think they've about given up trying which really sucks cuz I have 2 of then lol

Well I put it like this, I have 2 g4's and 2 days ago traded one for a g3 vs985 and I'm still in utter shock at how much this g3 blows those g4 outta the water in every single aspect and I've tested this thing balls out non stop and I hated lollipop and marshmallow until now that I'm running resurrection remix 6.0.1..rooting and custom recovery were a single click each and all I had to do was flash a 35b bootstack and modem to get mm running. I can't stress highly enough how much you'll regret getting rid of the g3 cuz there isn't very much to advance to with Verizon for a modder like us. The way they lock down their phones is just evil and the g3 is a rare miracle for a Verizon device. Have you done a lot of flashing yet on your g3?

That's what I was afraid of, thanks for confirming my suspicions! I have been using the PACMAN ROM for over a year now! Which ROMS do you recommend? Also note: I'm just good enough to root and flash. I've never messed with kernels or anything else.
I've run into a few quirks with my PACMAN ROM, nothing serious though (except for my camera not focusing as well anymore). Maybe a new ROM is just the change I need!
THANKS

Man on the g3 there's more Roms than I can begin to find a good start, hell I just started going down the list on Android File Host just search vs985 and there's over 400 files to start with. A good tip is to get a copy of each Android version's bootstack, modem, and kernal zips on XDA or you'll get updater script errors from the base band being off. Most likely you'll only have to stick with the latest version cuz most people go up in Android versions, not me I'm all over the place and still consider JB and kk the best and my personal favorite. But the Dirty Unicorns mm rom has really stepped up and cool as hell , especially the unique nav bar. If you run into problems finding the right bootstacks PM me and I'll hook you up

Hey, LG, why not unlock the bootloader so we can update what you can't?

Seriously. Why doesn't LG unlock the bootloader on these phones so that we can get custom updated roms? They're abysmal at releasing updates, and that locked bootloader is the only thing holding us back from having a much better device. My factory unlocked G8 hasn't received a single update since release. This is pathetic.
I advise everyone not to mess around within the options menu of the new update. It's a buggy mess. LG tried to act like they are pushing out updates, instead they released a glitchy crap for OS10. My "2nd display" button doesn't do anything anymore, I'm about to do a factory reset the 3rd time since the update. (Sprint unlocked LG G8). As of now, this phone is unreliable to be used as a daily driver.

I can't update cause it's broken I'm still on pie. Join the LG V50 telegram group to get the updated downgrade guide
While I don't have any comments on this particular issue, it is kind of ridiculous that the community could update the phone to Android 10 almost instantaneously, whereas the lag introduced by phone manufacturer AND phone plan provider results in enormous delays on the order of 6-months to never.
