I have S-Off now what - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Hi all, I read this boards all the time but rarely post. I recently had my phone S-Offed by Heroes96 (thank you again heroes!) However I am reading conflicting information about how to unlock and root now that I have S-off. I can't use htc dev because when I give them my identifier token it tells me my model is not supported (naturally). I also don't believe I can flash Super SU to use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/how-to-lock-unlock-bootloader-htcdevs-t3092036
because my bootloader is still locked. Can anybody here let me know what my next step would be? Many thanks.

oops nevermind, have my phone unlocked now

So what steps did you end up taking?

Your s-off guy didn't unlock your boot loader?
Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk

Nah, we met up in person and I was in kind of a hurry. He hooked me up with the s-off and I had to bolt. He sent a link to all the steps though. Got it all straightened out

is sending my M9 away the only way at this time to get root? I'm really just wanting the tether option!

[Q] Root Incredible 3?

Is it possible to Root the Dinc 3? If not yet can one reasonably expect a solution anytime soon or has Verizon found a way to cripple this (for me at least) mission critical modification>
Thanks
It hasn't been rooted..im sure if/when it's released, probably q1 or q2 of 2012 someone will end up finding out how to root it.

Oh maybe you meant the Moto Droid 3. wrong forum bud.
HTC announced in May that they will no longer be locking their boot loaders so when and if a dinc 3 does come out it shouldn't be a problem.

Unlocked bootloader = Root. Once u unlock the bootloader you can put whatever you want onto your phone, i.e. clockwork mod and rooted roms.

If u unlock the bootloader you can almost guarantee root, because you can flash whatever you want. Therefore unlocked bootloader = root...
You are right though, root does not = unlocked bootloader.

Unlocked bootloader is so you can put custom recovery and flash images. Root is having su permissions in Android OS.

I know this...my point is that getting root after HTC unlocks the bootloader will be as easy as flashing a custom recovery and a rom with su. There shouldn't be any need to find exploits to gain root.
Ex.
Fastboot oem unlock
Flash clockwork from bootloader
Wipe and flash custom Rom of choice.

Aren't the only devices that can be "fastboot OEM unlock"ed developer devices like the nexus and xoom? I know that other devices that don't have encrypted bootloaders can usually be rooted easily but I thought it was still more of a process than a simple ADB command.

If HTC really allows people to unlock their device, that might be one possible method they use. Personally I think they will try and find someway to permanently mark the bootloaders are unlocked so they can make sure the carriers can void warrenties (Much like the Nexus One had a picture of a lock to show if you unlocked your bootloader). I'm sure everyone read it but here's HTC's latest status update. http://www.facebook.com/notes/htc/update-on-bootloaders/10150305151453084
It'll be interesting to see what they do. Realistically, they could just leak the unlockable bootloaders and the good folks here on xda would take care of the rest..
It would be disappointing to me if they included some sort of warranty voiding measure as I don't see why the warranty wouldn't still apply to the hardware.

Yes, AAHK is retired. You can try to SIM unlock manually, but it's only recommended for advanced users. Manual instructions are on the AAHK website.

Ah, I see. Sorry, I'm not going to walk you through that entire procedure. I've never done it before. Bootloader unlock, recovery flash, and root flash are covered here on the forums if you search. If you can't figure that out I don't recommend that you try to continue; that procedure is for advanced users.

So, is there a root method yet for Android 4.4 Sense 5.5 on the Verizon HTC One or do we have to wait for an exploit?

People have been asking almost everyday for an unlock method in the Galaxy S4 forums for about 9 months now with no luck so unfortunately asking doesn't seem to get any better results
I don't know why but after I upgraded (OTA) to 4.4 my phone is now unlocked and S-Off. My contract was up a week earlier and I called regarding an unlock token but was told I needed to have a third party do it. Totally contrary to the Agreement the 4 majors had with the gov't in December over unlocking phones when contracts were up. So I'm just hanging out waiting for one of the resident masters to figure out a root.

If you're unlocked and s-off all you need to do is flash a recovery like TWRP and then flash a prerooted rom (most are pre rooted). It's the getting S-off part that many are still waiting to get figured out. You're free to flash away.

I'd be up for someone creating a general Q&A for this phone. It would have helped me quite a bit when I was just starting. I know enough to get one started but I'd feel better if I could get more experienced people contributing to it.

Ya, I think you can just flash a superuser.zip in recovery (you will need to flash a recovery first. Either TWRP or CWM...I prefer TWRP). It's been awhile, but I know it's not hard. There used to be a little tutorial in OP of the Rumrunner thread on how to gain root but I'm not sure if it's there anymore.

HTC One 4.4.2 OTA rumrunner?

I didn't feel like browsing through a ton of pages on the rumrunner forum. And I'm posting this in the Q&A section as this is a question.
Has rumrunner been updated to work with the Verizon HTC One with OTA 4.4.2? I am aware that I probably should have rooted before I accepted the OTA 4.4.2 update, but if I knew that it'd be awhile before I was able to root, I would've rooted and installed a 4.4.2 stock ROM.
Thanks.

In the same vein, does anyone know if Firewater is supposed to work with the same version (4.4.2, Hboot 1.56)? I haven't had any luck, but I'm not sure if that's because of my set up or just because it's not supported.

it wont work, the temp root that firewater uses was patched int he 4.4.2 release.
for firewater to work we need an unlocked bootloader from HTC (which VZW asked nicely to remove)
Going to have to wait for another exploit to surface.

Yeah I've tried every thing and nothing works, I got my HTC One exchanged a couple of weeks ago because the one I had just shut off and fried itself, I got the new one with 4.3 not realizing that it was actually rootable and I ended up taking the 4.4.2 update since I figured it wouldnt matter, sucks I was wrong and now have to wait quite a while as well. shame that something is there but they are waiting almost 5 months to do anything with it, but what can you do?
What ticks me off the most is Verizon, every other carrier has no issues with rooting the HTC One, why does Verizon care? I'll just never get it, its our fault and we void the warranty and we know this, other carriers know this and dont care, why Verizon WHY?

you could do what I'm leaning forward to doing, just call verizon and say that you have a purple camera tint problem and its really annoying, they should send u a refurbished one free or charge. of course, you have to send your current one in but it's not like they check or anything so it's pretty much full proof. got many refurbished phones that way, but it was not to get 4.3 or any other "rootable" software.the phones actually had problems.

How to flash a stock firmware in my M8?

Hi guys! I've been trying for a while to find a post where I can find exactly what I want but I can't, so I don't know if it's possible. The thing is, I've an M8 with "Vodafone" in Spain (Android 4.4.4). Yesterday I unlocked it by code and know I want to flash an original stock firmware (GOD, it was a way easier with my old Xperia Z2) so that I can get Lollipop and erase all Vodafone's rubbish forever. However, I don't know if this is possible. I've seen that my cid must be HTC_00*** but I hace "VODAP304". Then I've seen I need firewater but it's no longer working (to s-off the device). So, I'm a bit lost and I don't even know if I can flash a stock firmware over a Vodafone firmware. Any ideas?
You can use sunshine to S-OFF

Thanks for replying!! I heard that one could have some bugs, but if you recommend it I will use it. And then, can I flash any firmware?? No matter what?
Yep, pretty much. Before you pay for Sunshine it goes through some checks to make sure it's compatible so give it a go
I need to pay ???
Yep, $25
Woah, I think I'll leave it like that. I think that what I want to do is not worth 25 dollars

Than it would have been a good option to s-off for 25 and do the SIM unlock yourself and get the freedom of s-off with it
If I had known I could do that in advance, I would have never paid for unlocking it. Oh God, I feel stupid now xD

Yeah. To be honest I'm not an expert, but I usually do this kind of things by myself. However, for the last let's say 2-3 years I've seen that's almost impossible unlocking a phone without paying. I made a little research and found it was more or less the same with the HTC One M8 (and I also found that there was another program to made it s-off but it wasn't working anymore), but clearly I didn't look everything
Well, I've finally decided to use Sunshine. However, when it tries to make a test to see if my phone is suitable for Sunshine this message appears: "Sunshine could not find the su binary, please root your device, then run Sunshine". Is it necessary to root the device in advance? I thought Sunshine itself did it

What do you think the message means, if it can't find the su binaries you need to root it in advance. If sunshine would root it for you it would have said so. Pretty clear to me
Hahaha lol I know, but I thought there could be some kind of option in advance or something X). Well, I'm going to investigate how to root the device then =)
